The first thing we need to do is reverse the mindset of the current White House. We are not going to just restore levels of funding for research, we are going to significantly increase the number of grants that are provided to researchers. We are starting to lose our scientists because they're not getting enough research money to support themselves. We're spending $10 billion a month in Iraq. We could be using that money to invest in disease research. The number of people who are impacted by AIDS, by juvenile diabetes, and by other diseases is astronomical, and you're going to have a president who prioritizes investment in research over the next eight years.
Our cities have been neglected for a really long time. As our cities go, so do our suburbs go. So do our rural areas. When they are crumbling, our entire economy crumbles. We need to invest in our cities because when we invest in our cities, we invest in America. When I'm President, we are going to invest in infrastructure. In New Orleans, we've got to rebuild levies, schools, hospitals, and police stations.Reducing crime also has to be a top priority. That will require a significant investment as well. Cities are often losing businesses because the workforces aren't adequately trained. We've got to invest, especially in cities where children are economically disadvantaged.
