On Thursday, August 16, Barack Obama participated in a potluck with local activists in Atlantic, Iowa. He addressed the crowd for a few minutes before answering questions from the audience. One question was about the current nursing shortage. Senator Obama discussed the potential of unions in attracting more people into the field, and the importance of providing patients with the best care possible. He also responded to a question about education, advocating an increase in teachers' salaries in order to attract more teachers.
