He sent me a picture of himself sitting in front of his little palm-roofed house and wearing his very best clothes: A Chuck Norris T-shirt.

The person who founded this organization actually walked from Chicago to Guatemala in the 1970's in support of his cause, which is to help the elderly, children, and poor throughout the world.

It is called the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging

It costs $365 a year ($1 per day). It is pretty cool...and this particular organization has the highest per-dollar that ends up in the family's hands, rather than being sucked up by administration costs.

Asking the same question multiple times makes even a legitimate question invalid. In lawyer language (I'm not a lawyer, nor play one on TV) "asked and answered" is the response to a question that has already been answered.

Your repetition of the same question many times (which I've gone into in length on previous threads) is indeed worthy of being deleted because it becomes spamming.

The idea that you are 'just asking questions' by inserting a question mark at the end of your assertions is silly.

Fortunately the only time you are wasting is your own.

PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama scored twin diplomatic coups on Friday, seizing the world stage to forge a new allied call for action against Iran and a framework for global economic growth.

The moves ended a week of intense focus on foreign policy for Obama and could help shore up his standing among Americans after recent weeks during which his popularity fell to about 51 percent from highs around 70 percent after he took office in January.

From the United Nations in New York to a Group of 20 summit in Pittsburgh, it was all Obama all the time. He declared a "new era of engagement" for U.S. diplomacy and chaired a U.N. Security Council meeting on nuclear nonproliferation.

Despite a more positive mood, solutions to world challenges from Iran's nuclear program to climate change remain elusive and Obama still faces a long list of headaches that will test his leadership.

A debate on the cost and direction of his proposed U.S. healthcare overhaul is far from over and his administration faces internal divisions over whether to add U.S. troops to an Afghanistan war that is testing the patience of Americans.

All the same, Obama had a good week, said Charles Kupchan, a professor of international relations at Georgetown University and a former Clinton White House official.

"He has begun to deliver. When critics ask "Where's the beef?" he now has an answer. It's still a tentative answer but these are all issues that take time," Kupchan said.

"I do think it has been an important week in that he has begun to turn rhetoric into reality."

DIPLOMATIC TEST

Obama used fresh U.S. intelligence on an Iranian nuclear facility to dramatic effect -- drawing together the leaders of Britain and France and the backing of Germany to sound the alarm at a hastily arranged news event at the riverside convention center where the G20 summit took place.

"Iran is breaking rules that all nations must follow," Obama said.

The existence of a second Iranian uranium enrichment plant will challenge his diplomatic skills, with Tehran refusing to bend to international pressure and Israel facing some internal pressures to launch a pre-emptive attack.

"The pressure on Obama to do something is even greater because, if he doesn't, it seems pretty clear the Israelis will feel compelled to take action," said Democratic strategist Doug Schoen.

Great article. I feel like despite the enormity and complexity of hosting UN and G-20, and all the peanut gallerying by the pundits and concern trolling of the Republicans which sounds completely out of touch, our president is getting shhhhh done.

I haven't been able to follow the events as closely as I'd like this week, but from what I'm reading and seeing, he's all business and leaders are responding favorably to him and to his proposals. Rome wasn't built in a day, so world peace and prosperity will not happen in one week of whirlwind diplomatic events.

Bottom line for me - I'm so proud of our president.

The MSM did not dig into the story of the racism on the correctly. There was no in-depth reports on those emails or comments made during the campaign, and since Obama has been in office. Even after Jimmy Carter's remarks, the MSM did not go back and highlight these incidents to show maybe he has a reason to say what he said. Instead, MSM just went around asking people do you think there is racism involved in the criticism of President Obama. They merely conducted opinion polls among pundits to determine whether racism was at root of these extreme horrific attacks.

Furthermore, asking Presidents Clintons opinion or whether or not Obama's critics were espousing racist animosity, was a none starter. Since he was accused of playing the race card during the campaign, Clinton had lost his credibility on this front.

Glenn Beck will receive the key to his hometown of Mount Vernon, Wash. in a ceremony this Saturday.

City Council votes to changes locks:

On Wednesday night, the City Council of this town of 32,000 distanced itself from Mayor Bud Norris, who plans to give the keys to the city to talk-show personality Glenn Beck on Saturday.

The seven-member council unanimously passed a resolution proposed by member Dale Ragan that stated, "Mount Vernon City Council is in no way sponsoring the Mayor's event on September 26, 2009 and is not connected to the Glenn Beck event in any manner."

I hate the fact that China is growing into such an economic force to deal with. It's not even so much about our debt - even if we didn't have debt with them, I believe they'd still be a major player since they would have found another way to have grown their economy the way the did with our "assistance."

China is growing strong economically because of their new interest in capitalism-with-limits [as regards the peoples welfare.] They are slower on the limits as regards pollution than we have been, although under the Bush years some terrible polluting was allowed. They try to keep prices down for the masses and we have had our businesses become so abusive we may have to do a little of that too.

The big thing I wiash China would do is put pressure on Pakistan. They share a border and I wish they would pressure them to control and hopefully eliminate the Quida hiding out there.

When will the tests be over for President Obama? The clintons are going to overshadow his presidency... this will be a major test. Liberal economists think the stimulus should be higher, conservatives say lower... this is his first major test. The military thinks he should do this or that in Iraq and Afghanistan... this will be his first major test. On healthcare, the left wants this and the right wants that... this is a major test and could define his presidency. Somali pirates have captured a U.S. ship... this is his first major international test. Iran has a covert nuclear facility... this is his first major test on the world stage.

Someone help me... what other tests did I miss, and, when will the tests be over?

Well, don't forget about the tests during the election...my goodness.

It makes for a good story. That is all this is about. I have no idea what the media is talking about half the time anymore. They are having an entirely different conversation that what we normal people are having amongst each other.

Every "test" that they have for our President is a "test" for our country too. He has very little room for failure because Bush, Congress, and their media allies failed us so many times for so long during the past 8 years.

I am sometimes baffled by how little it seems the Republicans and the media feel responsible for putting our country in such a precarious position on so many serious issues.

Not to worry, it's only some in the media and crtics saying that. The average person does not think like that.

In my opinion our President is doing an above average job on the domestic front and internationally. He's only just begun and has already accomplished a great deal. I am extremely proud of the Obama administration.

In the 4th Century B.C.E. Alexander the Great launched a savage military campaign through the areas we know today as southern Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Some Historians refer to Alexander's campaign as the march of The Ten Horned Beast. Some of us think many Tea baggers are "tin horns" who behave beastly. There is a connection.

One analogy that immediately comes to mind is the connotation of the words: "Ten Horned" and "Beast". For instance "tin horned" may be a word that describes how many Tea Baggers sound when they are telling their version of the truth. The word "Beast" best describes their behavior, in general. But there are other similarities.

Yet, the Ten Horned Beast in reference to Alexander's successful campaign in the area also is reference to Daniel 7:7 Link

Daniel's description of a savage beast with ten horns describes not just Alexander but also the diversity, adaptability and the swiftness of his successful strategy in that area.

But, unfortunately, Daniel's description of the beast "devouring" its foes describes our fellow American brothers and sisters who feel the name "Tea Bagger" makes them some kind of Richard the Lion Heart fighting Saladin in the last Crusade to free the Holy Land from the heathen threat.

Ultimately, Alexander was successful in his Central Asia campaign.Through a series of pincer movements that utilized the mountainous terrain against Darius III, Alexander was able to, sort of "tie" the Persian Emperor up in what was for lack of a better word a "tea bag." I think the connection here is clear enough.

Our campaign in Central Asia could learn a lot from Alexander's success in the 3rd Century B.C.E.
It may mean asking Pakistan and India to work together in helping us, but if we can convince them that to do so is in their economic best interest our forces might be able to use the river and mountains to tie the Taliban up in kind of a "tea bag"

Finally, what do our beloved American Tea Baggers have in common with Afghanistan? Once you tie them up and put them in water the only thing they make is tea.

How about the fact that with Afghanistan that Obama has demonstrated his weakness again and his basing military policy on politics. His top general advised him that in order to achieve victory he needed additional troops. Obama cannot make a decision and trust his general. This President is week and cannot make a decision. If he is not dedicated to victory then he should act as he did before and declare the US has been defeated and bring the troops home. If he wants victory then he should follow the advice of his generals.

And before you demonize me I wore the uniform of our army for 4 years and I understand the sacrafices of our troops.

I also know that what means the most to the troops is finishing the mission and being succcessful. Obama is delaying his decision and making a political decision.

He needs to support the troops and his leaders in the field.

Obama is week, an appeaser, and is not fit to be COmmander in Chief. He needs to be defeated in 2012 so our nation can repair the damage he is doing to our economy, foreighn policy, and military.

This President is on the same path of Carter and it would be difficult to be as week as Carter was.

The Tea Party supporters are patriots, believe in capitalism, and believe Obama and the Congress are making our nation into a European welfare state.

People in this country want to go back to individual responsibility, limit government spending, and fiscal responsibility. This President has incurred 1/3 the debt of President Bush in only 9 months. It is a course for disaster. His spending will lead to higher interest rates, higher energy costs, higher inflation, higher unemployment, and economic decline.

Obama is a disaster.

WASHINGTON - House Democrats are considering a tax on high-cost insurance plans to help pay for health care overhaul that tops President Barack Obama's domestic agenda.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Friday the tax is "under consideration" as Democrats search for consensus within their ranks before taking a bill to the House floor later this fall.

"We just have to see how much money we need for what," Pelosi said. "And if we're taking the bill down in cost, there are other provisions in the Senate bill that bend the (costs) curve that might be more palatable. We'll see."

Pelosi didn't specify what other provisions she might find more acceptable. An aide said that if the House does incorporate an insurance tax in its plan, it would probably be a more modest one than what Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., has proposed.

The House Democratic plan calls for raising income taxes on upper-income people to pay for covering the uninsured. Baucus has instead proposed a tax on high-cost insurance plans worth more than $8,000 for an individual policy and $21,000 for family coverage.

Proponents of the insurance tax, which Obama has endorsed, say it would help to lower health care costs by encouraging people to become more cost-conscious health care consumers.

Some of the high-cost plans are so expensive because they come with no co-payments or deductibles, and cover every dollar spent for health care. Not all of them provide such "Cadillac" benefits, however. Some are very expensive because they're sold to companies with older employees, or workers in high-risk occupations

If Obama supports this it is yet one more example of him breaking his word. It would be another example of change that we can believe in.

The Democrats are going to do everything they can to destroy the private insurance industry and put people on the government plan therefore creating a sinle payer system and socializing medicine.

This government is on the verge of destroying America and making us into a socialist state. They are already beginning to force businesses from showing any dissent. The insurance companies were not using fear tactics but telling the truth. Anyone with common sense can tell when you cut 500 billion from a program it will impact benefits.

Obama and the Congress are liars and out for power.

Leave healthcare alone and stay out of my business.

I thought that was a great retort by the president. It ties into a comment I left earlier, which was that it seems like the media thinks the president's failure of these media-made "tests" are his failures alone. They are OUR failures.

This presidency is not about Barack Obama. Just like Bush's presidency was not about George W. Bush. Their decisions are not decisions about where they are going to eat, which effect their stomachs. Their decisions directly effect us and our country's future, and it is time that the media and other politicians start acting like they have a role to play in saving our country from ruin.

I had a really good eighth grade english teacher who taught me the following:

When deciding whether to use "to" or "too", substitute the word "also". If you could use the word "also", then the correct spelling is "too".

For example:

"Connie is pretty smart also. See... the correct spelling in this case is 'too'."

I had read here recently that there were 15 more positions needing confirming that the GOP has held up. That stall was probably intended to limit the effectiveness of the administration. The legal Czar appointments by the President which actually have other job titles probably saves the administration from the effects of the stall on the confirmation of the positions that are supposed to be put in place. It seems the GOP is doing their best to derail the current administration.

Another shining example of "American Family Values" from the conservative GOP folks.

Having a child is difficult enough. Aside from the normal pregnancy stuff, it is a huge financial burden. Not only is the cost of delivery and pre and post-natal care pricey, BUT when a woman takes time off of work she does so WITHOUT PAY!

So, having a child in the U.S. is like having a child AND losing your job at the same time.

Sure, a woman can use two weeks of "vacation pay", but after that it is no more paycheck. And, if a woman decides to take three months off to care for her newborn there is always the fear of losing your job.

Do you all realize that in France a woman gets an entire YEAR of PAID maternity leave? And, the father gets and entire MONTH of paternity leave?! This is part of their healthcare system.

Now, who has the REAL family values?

...As the national debate over lack of adequate health care for millions of Americans rages on, the Eagles Eye Mobile has examined 26,000 low-income schoolchildren since 1996 and provided free eyeglasses to the 75 percent who needed them.
The Eye Mobile served 3,351 kids last year, providing 2,352 with prescription eyeglasses and referring 369 for further treatment, including surgery.

The Eagles pay for the Eye Mobile exams and glasses. Longtime partner St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, and new partners Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Wills Eye Institute, arrange funding for surgery.
Thomas was one of 14,000 Philadelphia schoolchildren who fail the mandatory school-eye exam every year but whose vision problems go untreated. Why?

"My health plan at work said there wasn't anything they could do for Thomas' eye," Ristine said. "They acted like it was cosmetic."

Dr. Carter Liotta, the optometrist from St. Christopher's Hospital for Children who has served on the Eagles Eye Mobile since 2003, examined Thomas and referred him for surgery.
"A lot of insurance companies say eye- turn-in surgery is cosmetic, as if it's tooth- whitening that we're asking for or a nose job," Liotta said.

...Jermane Mayberry - the former Birds' offensive lineman (1996-2004), who donated $100,000 in his rookie year to get the whole thing started.
Mayberry, who is legally blind in his left eye due to a childhood affliction that went untreated until it was beyond repair, wanted to prevent schoolchildren here from suffering a similar fate.

Mayberry said he was "blown away" by how deeply committed the Eagles were to the Eye Mobile, years after his tenure here.

…One of the Eye Mobile's original partners, Wills Eye Institute, returns this year in the person of Dr. Alex V. Levin, chief of pediatric ophthalmology and ocular genetics, a Philly native who left to practice medicine in Canada for 17 years after "seeing patients turned away in this city because they couldn't afford care or had the wrong insurance.
"It turned my stomach," he said. "I couldn't practice medicine that way.
"In Canada, everyone has equal and open access to health care," Levin said. This is what I voted for and more!

I knew President Obama was smart. I knew he had capable and dedicated people working with him.

But I did not expect so much achievement so fast.

I thought it would take longer for signs of economic recovery to happen.

I thought it might take a little longer for the President of Russia to begin to admire President Obama for his wonderful attributes like we do.

But President Obama and his team began tackling all of our problems head on like true champs.

I think we are witnessing a truly remarkable presidency. An exceptional President.

In my lifetime, I have not seen such a capable commander-in-chief.

Finally, Hope instead of Fear.

This is how I see it, and forgive me if I sound arrogant or heady or whatever.

We all spend our fair share of days being anxious and fearful. This is part of life. Fear and anxiety are as much a part of the range of human emotinos as are hope and happiness. Emotionally well-balanced people are capable of experiencing all of these emotions with more or less equal ease, and in equal quantity.

President Obama represents hope and promise. The Bush/Cheney administration represented fear and anxiety.

Many of the GOP leaders seem to subscribe to a fear-based view of the world. Remember Bush's "Red Alert" scale? Talk about trying to keep people scared. Why not "The only thing to fear is fear itself."?

The large Insurance/Energy lobbies are using our fear emotions against the U.S. people in order to pursuade us and to act out of fear.

Why not use Hope and Promise?

Because, in my view, Hope and Promise are the true enemies of Power.

Just listen to the anti-HCR senators and their ominous "Be afraid, be very, very afraid of Obama's HCR" tone. They don't have an answer but dammit, they are gonna try and SCARE us into resisting Obama's HCR.

The actions we see out of our president are largely a reflection of how he sees the world, and how he sees himself in this world. President Obama has a naturally optimistic view of the world and that comes through.

Hope and Promise are the enemies of Power. Fear and Anxiety are it's weapons.

I have long admired your wisdom Jim. You hit the nail on the head in refering to the anxiety many of us feel now. We just don't want to see a good thing get screwed over.

The thing that keeps me going, besides articles like yours, is remembering, always remembering the surprising ability of Barack and his team to pre-guess problems and somehow be prepared and then say and do just the right thing. I see it happening still. It is an amazingly gifted situation and that helps a lot.

I feel bad that the opposition feels so bad and has even more anxiety, but in the end it comes from them not knowing who their friends are.

I agree with you Andrea. I knew Pres. Obama would get things done pretty quickly though as it showed in the public records of what he achieved during his Senatorial years in the IL state Senate. The number of significant bills he authored or co-authored was amazing. The best indicator of future performance is past performance. His political history told me he was serious and walked his talk.
I also knew he should be good at foreign policy as his emphasis for his undergrad degree was the same. Also his early living in Indonesia gives a lot more experience than just traveling to or giving a speech in a different country. His life of being Biracial with his upbringing by his White family, his early family diversity and life in Hawaii which is a diverse population, and his travel abroad before law school all added to his understanding of other cultures. Most of all Pres. Obama's personality traits of being able to listen to others, his intelligence, his respect for others, his problem solving skills, his confidence, his speaking abilities and natural leading instincts all came together as perfect attributes for excellent leadership in foreign affairs.

though an interesting analysis, I think what has been completely missed is that the American people chose to re-engage with the wider global community and that community is grateful and rewarding America. 12 months ago, a packed to the rafters UN assembly to listen to the US president would have been a pipe dream. Even Bill Clinton's ever ready smile was viewed with suspicion from some corners of the world. Now we have the African Union, the Arab states, the wider European community, the Asias, the Americas all back ready to look ahead. It's especially nice to hear the positive opinions of those from other countries since a portion of US citizens do not have a clue as to how lucky we are. That is sad but we will continue to support our POTUS!

It appears you deliberately misrepresented my assertion.

You extract the part you like, and then create a strawman argument from it.

I did not say asking a question was spamming. I said asking the same question repeatedly IS spamming.

You have two choices at this point; 1) you are not capable of understanding english or 2) you deliberately are lying.

Neither option warrants further consideration of your posts in the future.

President Carter may not have had the most successful presidency, but he has been, without a doubt the very best ex-president we've ever had. Whether on the world stage, monitoring elections in troubled lands. acting as our voice in tense times or just swinging a hammer on a Habitat for Humanity project, Jimmy Carter has done us proud. We owe him great honor for his service.

Moody's Economy.com is predicting that 70,000 financial workers in the New York area will lose their jobs by the middle of 2010. New Jersey, which is home to many laid-off Wall Street bankers and is facing a looming shortfall in math teachers, launched Traders to Teachers, an accelerated program at Montclair State University to retrain laid-off financial services employees as math teachers.

Montclair State University is pleased to announce Traders to Teachers, a teacher preparation program that allows individuals displaced from the financial sector or similar industries to pursue certification to teach mathematics. This accelerated program, which is supported by the collaborative efforts of the College of Education & Human Services and the College of Science & Mathematics is for individuals who have used mathematics in their jobs, and have a sincere desire to become mathematics teachers, whether or not they majored in mathematics in college.
