Thursday night's Organize for Change watch parties are about people coming together to watch Barack Obama accept the Democratic nomination and to organize in our neighborhoods and communities for the upcoming election. Some gatherings will be large, and others small; Don will be hosting only 16 people at his home in Johnston, Rhode Island. It's a small number compared to some of the mega events planned around the country, but those 16 people can go from Thursday night's celebration and register hundreds of voters between them.
Don has gotten involved in the campaign in a big way. He's hosted campaign staff at his home, cooked for volunteers, and hosted several canvasses. Why? He sees something different in Barack.
The guys is something special...there's just something about him. So this is the first time I've ever donated money to a campaign. This is the frist time I've ever gotten involved in the workings of a campaign. He just motivated me.
Don thought the natural thing to do from there was to get involved.
It started with going canvassing in New Hampshire to help out. For the Rhode Island primary, I hosted a hosue party and had volunteers stay in my home. I thought that if people could open their homes to me in New Hampshire, then I could do the same.
Now moving into the general election, Don's looking forward to getting people invovled again. He's hosting an Organize for Change watch party to expand support for Barack in his neighborhood. He's seen firsthand the power of Barack to bring over those who are undecided in their choice for President.
I have one older brother who wasn't sure who to vote for, and I finally convinced him to come with me to see Senator Obama. Now he's solidly behind Obama. I have another relative who wasn't sold until he saw Michelle speak at the convention. After her speech, he said "I'm sold."
Don knows that Thursday night is going to be incredibly powerful. It's a chance to bring new supporters into the fold, and to organize old friends to help elect Barack. That's why it's so important to join your fellow supporters on Thursday night to watch his acceptance speech. It's easy - just type in your zip code, and sign up to attend a nearby event.
