This is a great time to celebrate. Lets get through this week and ready to work Saturday!
Still no McCain signs or bumper stickers Mary. I was in Davenport Friday and Saturday and saw little of his stuff there...

Hey Tam, on the road again, huh? You rock.
The opening nite was definitely off the charts.
It was a whole box of Kleenex night for real.
We got the GOP on the ropes with Uncle Teddy showing that he will persevere no matter what and then Michelle, reaching every strata of American life whether they fess up or not. Every person spanned last night had tears in their eyes and Joe Biden did, too!! He was so fired up after her speech, he jumped to his feet!
I'm glad I was a witness.
Glad you're in your new place, good luck with all that entails and please, celebrate to your heart's content!!

LENO: Welcome back, Sen. McCain, for one million dollars, how many houses do you have?
MCCAIN: You know, could I just mention to you, Jay, and a moment of seriousness. I spent five and a half years in a prison cell, without—I didn’t have a house, I didn’t have a kitchen table, I didn’t have a table, I didn’t have a chair. And I spent those five and a half years, because—not because I wanted to get a house when I got out.
When he starts accusing his staff of stealing his strawberries, will everyone else finally realize that this guy has lost it?

Undeterred by fat cat bundlers Agent Joe Ruwe doggedly raises money for Barack Obama, the next president of the United States. Day and night, he entertains, motivates, cajoles, begs, and elicits good will to bring change to this country. Without these funds, this mission will fail, and without your donations, Joe will fail. Your mission, should you decide to accept it is to keep his impossible streak alive.

C-SPAN is the no B.S. station for taking us inside the full convention experience.
While Carville and gergen may be right that we could have been a lot more aggressive in going up against Bush / McCain what they did not say is that other than the main speakers for the night, they failed to cover the "in-betweeners, " the mock townhalls that were set up on the stage that were very informative and showed that we democrats have been paying attention.
The pundits just like to hear themselves talk and argue.
C-SPAN will show everything happening in real time with no deux ex machina. Their audio feed is even better. I think CNN and MSNBC have mics placed in certain areas where they think "drama" may break out. "So let's play for you a clip of a drunken hysterical wheezer...." crap.

Michelle Obama's heart-centered speech last night influenced a lot of undecided voters. Her message was inspiring and uplifting. Michelle Obama healed a lot of people last night, especially the women in the convention who were literally in tears.
In past elections the majority of Americans have voted based on what their gut tells them to do. Currently, many voters are torn between what their mind is telling them to do and what their heart is telling them to do. Thanks to Michelle, many more undecided voters come this November will vote based on what their heart tells them to do.
Thank you CSPAN and PBS for great DNC coverage last night.

"Biden has not spent any of his own money on his campaigns--but then again, it doesn't seem that he really has the personal finances to do so anyway, at least not compared to other members of Congress. In 2006, Biden was among the poorest members of Congress. He may have been in debt by as much as $302,980 or worth as little as $278,000 (in their annual personal financial disclosures, lawmakers report the value of their assets in ranges). In 2007, his finances didn't get any better. Last year he could have been in debt by as much as $320,980 or worth as little as $215,900. At the very least, this reduces the chance that his assets will pose significant conflicts of interest (or the appearance of conflict)."
He is a rare politician indeed.

They are missing the new zogby poll which has us up 2 (actually tied since within margin of error). Last week we were down 5 in the same poll. That is a 7 point gain in 1 week. At that rate we will be up by 72 points on election day. (this assumes that the polls are an accurate reflection of the trend and that life is linear)

I seriously suspect that those voters who chime that they don't "know enough about Obama", are using that code phrase because it hides their real feelings of "ok, I'm a racist and don't intend to ever vote for a black man for president; it's a free country" and puts the burden on Obama to keep running on the treadmill faster, faster, etc. whilst they sit their on their arses laughing at it all.

Indeed.
I'm glad that Obama and his handlers are spending the bulk of their effort on getting unregistered voters to be come registered.
As for the Joe-6pack (ie. Archie Bunker) crowd, the focus this week will be on reaching out to these voters. That's good.
But, in the heart of our hearts, we all know, as Obama and his handlers know, that there's a hardcore group of that crowd that will refuse to vote for Obama.
That's why it's vital for Obama to get in and finally break that barrier. It will be to the benefit of those hardcore group members, who in the end will have the cloat of their own racism (like wearing a hairshirt) be lifted from their backs.
They and their enlightened children's, children will have a man named Barack Obama to thank for that.

JOHN, JOHN, JOHN....
Yes we know about your accommodations at the Hanoi Hilton.
We realize that those were some very difficult and trying times, and surviving was in of itself a burden none but the very few can possibly imagine.
You showed great courage to survive, but.....
What I would like to know is that that happened 40 some years ago and since that time you have had homes, tables and of course chairs. In ways over 95% of Americans can not relate to.
This is not about 40 years past and whether you had a table but today, now, 2008, and whether or not enough Americans are even able to keep theirs.
So when you find it hard to remember or know how many homes you and you wife (and I don't care if they are hers or yours it is domestic property covered by the laws of marriage in most states), if you have them, you probably have been to them at least once, and you are aware that they exist.
If you don't remember that is just another sign that you are not in touch with not only the times we live in but with your own reality and sad to say John, that's what comes with age.
I'll be there soon enough and the sooner you see that the sooner you might be able to get treatment that could possibly slow the aging process as far as your mind goes.
But whatever you do, and I mean this in all respects, do not use your deplorable POW status of 40 years ago to explain away your actions of today.
You should have grown in those 40 years. You should have looked for help for dealing with your 40 year old problem, but trying to explain away your over indulgences today because of an experience that took place some 40 years ago?
NOT THIS TIME.

A poll released yesterday by Emily's List has Obama beating McCain by a 12-point margin among all registered female voters and by 30 points among registered female voters ages 18 to 27. A February Planned Parenthood poll of 1,205 women voters in 16 battleground states found that 49 percent of women who backed McCain did so despite being pro-choice, and 46 percent backing him also wanted Roe v. Wade to remain the law of the land.
It's clear that once these voters find out McCain's real record on reproductive rights, they flee. The problem, as Sarah Blustain points out in this great piece, is that voters don't seem to be finding out.
McCain needs these pro-choice women, but every time he tries to reach out to them, he gets smacked upside the head by his base.

There's such a huge difference between polling "registered voters" and "likely voters." The national polls poll "likely voters," which does not factor in the MILLIONS of newly registered, or those who voted longer than 8 years ago.

These polls all use different models but you are correct since in general the weighting is heavily based on past trends. In the past 2 of the lowest voting communities have been the young and the AA community. If we can register voters and then being them to the polls we should do better than the predictions. That is why this is the brilliant strategy.

Facts:
Barack has a larger voting base than McCain.
Barack has 2,000,000 donors, McCain 600,000.
Barack has raised around $400,000,000, McCain less than half that.
Barack is building a strong ground game, has a much large voter registration campaign in place and has the most loyal and supportive voters.
Have YOU or ANYONE YOU know ever got a call from ANY of those polling companies? I know I have not.
Barack has millions of NEW voters voting for him -- these voters are not even being polled for the most part.
What about voters with cell phones only? Most are Obama supporters.
Those polls are so old-school and out dated.
Barack is winning. McCain has an uphill battle that he will not be able to climb.

It’s common knowledge that McCain was never promoted to Admiral, however, no one seems to know the REAL reason. Why did the Navy deem him unacceptable to serve as an Admiral? What did they know then that we have the right to know now?
The people of this country have a right to know exactly what is in McCain’s Navy files. We have the right to know the psychological impact that those years as a POW have had on McCain’s psyche. We need the FULL (not the selected snippets that have been provided) release of McCain’s military records to make an informed judgment and every American has a right to know.
This begs the question; if the Navy didn’t want McCain as an Admiral and/or they didn’t think he was qualified to be an Admiral, then how can he possibly be considered for Commander-in-Chief? Does anyone else see the disconnect???
------ EXERPT ---------
McCain's father died on March 22, 1981. McCain retired from the Navy within a week. He wrote about his retirement soon thereafter. McCain never mentioned the alleged offer of an admiralship by Lehman in any of his books, nor in the numerous interviews McCain gave during his first run for the presidency in 1999-2000.
Furthermore, articles written during the current presidential campaign quote McCain's closest friends about McCain's failure to be promoted to admiral before he retired from the Navy. For example, in an April 26, 2008, National Journal cover story, William Cohen (then a Senator, subsequently Secretary of Defense and the best man at McCain's second wedding) recounts that McCain "knew his career in the Navy was limited." Former Senator Gary Hart, who served as a groomsman at McCain's 1980 wedding, says in the National Journal story that he had been told "that [McCain] was not going to receive a star and not going to become an admiral. I think that was the deciding point for him to retire from the Navy."
“Retired Admiral Peter Booth: "No, John McCain was not selected for flag rank, for admiral.”
“To date, McCain's advisers have released snippets from his file, but under constrained viewing circumstances.”
“From day one in the Navy, McCain screwed-up again and again, only to be forgiven because his father and grandfather were four-star admirals. McCain's sense of entitlement to privileged treatment bears an eerie resemblance to George W. Bush's.”

Newsweek reported that while Petraeus recognized that al-Qaeda in Iraq has been significantly diminished, he refused to say the terror group had been “defeated.” Moreover, Petraeus acknowledged that the recent successes in Iraq may have been possible without the surge:
Petraeus is careful not to credit all the progress to the surge of U.S. troops in 2007. The sea change came last year from a series of movements now known as the Awakening. […] So would the Sunni Awakening have succeeded without the surge? Possibly, he concedes.

"The U.S. wants a relatively loose agreement that allows us to keep troops in Iraq.
But the prime minister is under intense political pressure to take a hard line against the Americans, even as his government engages in the back-and-forth of negotiations. Graffiti can be seen on the walls in Shiite districts of Baghdad saying, "Iraq for sale: See Maliki."
To further prove his independance, Maliki is getting ready to sign a big oil deal with China. Russia is probably next. We spend $2 Trillion on what Greenspan called "a war for oil", and our global rivals get half the oil. We continue to live in Dick Cheney's old colonial illusion that our military power gives us some mercantile advantage.

IMO it's not and there is a flagship of support for Obama in all 50-states that is not being reported, and not being polled on.
It won't be a landslide for Obama on 11/04/08 but neither will it be a close election.
In the last few weeks before the election, a coalescing will take place around Obama that will be unstoppable and the CM will no longer be able to ignore it.
The CM, in other words, will be humbled by the majority of American voters.

From the RNC Podium: McCain Does Not Want to Overturn Roe--What?
The McCain campaign welcomed delegates to Denver with a new ad Monday, showing Debra Bartoshevich, a self-described "proud Hillary Clinton Democrat," announcing that she opposes Barack Obama and will vote for John McCain. To back up the message, Republicans arranged a press-conference in Denver Monday morning with Bartoshevich and other Clinton supporters, who are all now backing McCain.
Midway through the event, Bartoschevich was asked if she was concerned about McCain's pro-life voting record. At a podium paid for by the Republican National Committee, with McCain aide Carly Fiorina standing nearby, Bartoschevich said this:
Going back to 1999, John McCain did an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle saying that overturning Roe v. Wade would not make any sense, because then women would have to have illegal abortions.
Almost as soon as he said it, McCain's aides were running away from the quote, and McCain has maintained since then that Roe v. Wade was a bad decision that should be overturned. He does not mince his words: “I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned,” McCain said during the South Carolina primaries. Back then, confusion over McCain's abortion stance was a problem for the McCain campaign, a weapon used against him by conservatives who said he could not be trusted. But now, as the McCain campaign seeks to woo disaffected Clinton supporters, the campaign appears to be playing the other side of the coin. Either that, or the campaign's new poster lady just veered way off message.

Petraeus vs McCain
26 Aug 2008 11:57 am
It's the difference between a sober empirical judgment and a hotheaded partisan boast. From Newsweek:
Petraeus is careful not to credit all the progress to the surge of U.S. troops in 2007. The sea change came last year from a series of movements now known as the Awakening. […] So would the Sunni Awakening have succeeded without the surge? Possibly, he concedes.
And McCain:
COURIC: Sen. Obama […] says that there might have been improved security even without the surge. What’s your response to that?
McCAIN: I don’t know how you respond to something that is such a false depiction of what actually happened.
Notice the accusation of a lie when Obama is actually telling the nuanced truth, exactly as Petraeus did. Do we really need another commander-in-chief who cannot see complexity in the Middle East? And who turns military facts into partisan propaganda?

Let's hope that Hillary and Bill can follow in Michelle's footsteps and "hit it out of the ballpark!" If so, maybe the media will give this topic of 'unrest' a rest. If not, then perhaps Barack's surrogates should start asking Hillary's supporters to put the shoe on the other foot. What if Hillary had won and Barack's supporters didn't rally around her?

Which, when compared with ANYTHING McCain says, makes Obama look like a Saint. Everything is relative, you know . . . McCain is so dishonest that his reflection in the mirror shows two of him.
Whatever you might say about Obama, goes DOUBLE for McCain!!

JAMES CAVILLE'S OPPORTUNISTIC STAND |

James Caville looks unhappy, acts unhappy and talks nothing positive! This man is an opportunist whose wife published a book intended to damage Obama. He did nothing about it! He has never criticised the book in question--a propaganda diatribe written by a an extreme right wing hatemoner. The thing about Carville is that he sits on both sides of the fence: If Democrats win, he claims to be a part of them; if they lose, he benefits through his wife on the Republican side. In the meantime, while many former Clinton supporters are now clearly doing their best for Obama, Caville keeps whining on the sideline--spreading rumors about division, the dissatisfaction of the Clintons and how they should have been treated better. She even criticised Michelle's excellent performance at Convention's opening night. Maculliffe, the former DNC Chairman and Clinton supporter, has been playing a more positive role and clearly affirmative in his support for Obama. The attitude of the Clintons and their supporters like Caville to Obama and Obamarites is simply this: we will re-write history on our own terms or create chaos at the Convention. They want to muscle their way into things and places that are Obama's to control, and nothing short of having their way will make them happy. This, to me smarks of racism by code--because they did not dare to do this when John Kerry and Al Gore were the Democratic Party’s nominees. This sort of blackmail will go down in history as a memorable episode of discrafeful conduct on the part of a loser who, in reality tried to dstroy the Democratic Party itself during her Primary contest using all sorts of nefarious and dark tactics that Sen. McCain is now using with glee, using in fact Hillary Clinton’s playbook and words against Obama. Right to this moment, the Clintons have continued to make it about themselves and not Obama --and the big picture, for them, counts little in their selfish political strategy.

I'm getting tired of the media STILL giving Michelle grief about her proud statement. That mess should have been cleared up when Laura Bush so eloquently stated what she meant to say. Please. PLEASE help me send to out again to the different channels. Cnn, Msnbc, Fox. Keith O. Rachael, Wolf B. Roland Martin. roland@ rolandsmartin.com

Truly shameless. This just goes to show you, we donot need this kind of leader in the white house, one who stoops to degrading other people and especially children. Shame on John McCain.
