Unity
One post I recieved from a caring Oama supporter anmed Colleen Whalen chided me for naming my unity party "Thank God It's Over", as rubbing it in on Hillaqry Clinton"s supporters. I can thin of several respondses, but the best is I supported Hillary too. And for my bona fides go to Democratic Financial World at Yahoo.com to see my feelings.
Yes I support Obama;my support is for the party and not necessaily the man. My opiniooon is the soft media frennzy left lots of unanswered questions, and I invite your comments.
1 In Obama's Foriegn Affairsa article he sstates "I will not hesitate to act unilaterally to protect the vital interests of the United Sates." Well gee, didn't we take on Bush with that deathless phrase "doesnt plaay well with others?"
If these interests are indeed "vital" to uss, certainly so to others. Perhaps the House, the Senate, the Eurpoeans Union, the United Nations, the G8 industrial group--not to mention Russia,Chinaa,India,France,Germany,Japan--at the very least.
This is "change we can beleive in"?
2Senator Obama in the You Tube debate said "We should have an exit plasn in place before we go in" in chiuding Mrs Clinton on her vote. Leaving aside the fact that this is a direct unattributed quote from a George Bush 2000 speech in Tenesee, (aanother example of unattributed speechs)he has failed to live up to his own standard of performance.
Senator Obama proposed sending 97,000 troops to Afganistan in his Foreign affairs article. He has since suggested going innto Pakistan too.
To daate we have no exit paln.
Can we say "Bush Lite"?
It's fine to set a standars for others. Why not follow it yourself?
3. Ending the war. I accompanied Patty Wetterling to Owatonna Minnestoa where she bacme the first national candidate to set a specific withdrawal date from Iraq-September 2006. This was two weeks before Cong John Murtha announced his support for withdrawal.Senaor Obama did not set a date.
In fact, Senator Oama voted againsst Senator Kerry's 2006 withdrawal deadlline. Obama has vote 8 times to contnue war funding.
Only 3 days after finally announcing his candidacy for President did he say, yes,I support withdrwal. But,he could not guarantee withdrawal by the end of his first tier.
To paraphrase Bobby Seale Iraq is like rape-do you withdraw or negotiate.
Yes Senator Obama opposed the war aat the beginning. But he has done absolutely nothing to end it.
Nor has Obama opposed the billion dollar Us Embassy in Iraq. If we are indeed withdrawing why would we need an embassy three times as big as our whole Chinese Embassy?
4.Senator Obama spent his time giving about 150 sppeches against the Patriot Act running for election in Illionois. Yet, he voted for the act. This is John Kerry in reverse: he was against the act before he was for it.
This isn't just woirds,right?
Just how I ask, does theis "change the culture of Washington"?
5 Machvelli in his handy little book The Prince said the first impression of a leader is the people around him. Let's apply that.
Susan Powers-Oama's foreign affaist spokes man telling a Scottish newspaper "Hillary clinton is a monster."
Jerimiah Wright-quoted this time in The New Republic: "I am against the Four H Club. You know who that is: Hannity,Holmes,Hillary and Hate"
This-as an opposition researcher I've looked up every presidential campaign. Even Nixon never had a direct statement linking a candidate as the moral equivelent of hate. Not even anything on Geogre Wallace went that far.
Jeriah Wright hit a serous new low in American politics. To date, Obama has to publicly reudiated the "Hillaary and Haate" comment, but made only general and superficial disownment
to be fair, in my blog I said Obama should not leave his church--which he did--I did not think it fair to have him leave 8,000 friends behjind because of a presidential campaign. I still feel he shouldhave stayed.
6. "Why can't we all just get along/" Obama asks.
One reason is repect.
Yet as a member of the Illinios staate senatehe was one of only two senators to vote "present" on a bill to require teaching respect in sschools as a core cirriculumn. Gee is there something awful about respect we here in Minnesota don't understand?
Another great line that rings insincerity.
7. ass a member of the Senate Bakruptcy committee Obama voted no on an amendment to cut credit card rates from 33% to more reasonable ones. One reason people refinanced homes was to get out of the debt. Obama made himself part of the problem instead of the solution.
Obama when asked why he voted against the amendment said it was "poorly drafted."
Oh plewase! Here is a Harvard Law Review editor and law professor who can't even draft a simple amendment to fix things!
Are you really part of the dumb and dumber crowd?
Finally, let's get down to "Change you can believe in."
Richard Dawkins in his book the God Illusion reminds us that polls consistently favor a belief in God-but he asks, is this a Belief in Belief, or a more fundamental belief in God.
He analyzes it this way: a Hottentot can believe in electrcity. but unless he has the means to turn on a light with a light swich to light a light bulb--itis just academic beleif.
This is the imporatnt point right here:there is too much emphasis on belief-which allows McCain's crowd to slowly pick Obama apart as the above point make clear.
Duiring the Republican debates Guiliani pointed out Chian was going to build 20 nuclear power plants in the next 10 years. China has already spent $1.2 trillion on the Three Goerges water power project, so this represents a major sea change in strategy for them.
He also mentioned $1.1 trillion in investments in the Gulf region-new factories and whatever.
Change is happening right in front of our eyes and it is change we can do little about. There will be change anywa.
Raather than "A change you can beleve in", this ought to be "Change you can live with".One cannot control change;one can only control the speen and dirction of change.
Aand this is as I said-exactly why unity is a tricky buisness.
