Senator Feingold has spearheaded an effort to censure Bush/Cheney/Gonzales. There are two different resolutions: one for Iraq and one for the rule of law.
To learn more about the censure resolutions, go here: http://feingold.senate.gov/~feingold/releases/07/07/20070722.html or here: http://feingold.senate.gov/opinion/07/20070722.htm.
The bill numbers are S.Res.302 (companion bill in the House is H.Res.625) and S.Res.303 (H.Res.626) should you want to research the bills themselves.
I'd like to know what people think of these. If they support them or not.
Arguments FOR the resolutions are that it is a step toward accountability, the congressional records will reflect Congress' and the people's condemnation of the actions listed, it saves time and money over impeachment proceedings, and that it is a symbolic step/warning signal that we are moving toward restoring the balance of powers.
Arguments AGAINST the resolutions are that it does nothing to actually remedy the mistakes and that it is an issue that should be sorted out by the courts.
Do you think why bother if it doesn't do anything?
Do you think it should be sorted out by the courts?
Do you think the congressional record should irrefutably reflect our opposition and condemnation of the actions listed in the resolutions?
Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?
