The budget passed earlier this week
in Congress leaves room for dramatic health care reform, one of President Obama's top priorities. Nancy-Ann DeParle, Director of the White House Office on Health Reform, gives her first weekly update on what her office is up to (via healthreform.gov):

This is my first post, I signed up because I wanted to donate to Obama's call for donations to support the health care fight, but it would only let me donate to the cause if I donated on a MONTHLY basis (forever, unless I remember to cancel) for a battle that's supposed to be over by August. No case was made for the necessity of ongoing donations beyond August to the cause of health care. Does anyone know how to go about getting ahold of someone who matters to let them know that we as Americans support the fight, but we're not stupid? Especially since Obama has so far not insisted that the 'inclusive' process he claims, include advocates of single payer or a fed-run health care plan to compete with for-profit health care, I'm certainly not willing to write him a blank check. I love the guy, but he needs to know we're going to hold him to account. Any ideas from any y'all on how to get ahold of anyone with any juice?

in countries (Canada, Australia, New Zealand) where health care is a basic and guaranteed right, for 20 years or so, to imagine that we here could truly have that need and right acknowledged, makes me feel quiet inside, and confident that reform and restructuring WILL happen, in my lifetime! (and I am not so young!) Have a wonderful weekend everyone, get out there and enjoy the spring coming alive! We are in good hands.. Blessing to all!

Director...Health Reform,
This is one tough tough tough lady. You do NOT mess with Nancy-Ann DeParle. I've seen her stop the insurance special interests dead in their tracks during the townhalls...
Also looking forward to Kathleen Sebelius: after PBO she's probably my favorite pol - she carries herself with a certain ease & grace that is as authentic as it is hard to find (particularly in politics)
Before HHS she was Gvnr of a democratic Gvnr of a heartland 'red-state' (Kansas), her dad was Gvnr of Ohio.
I think the new 'Obama majority' is going to be one that in addition to winning the coastal states also 'permanently' strips the heartland & southwestern states away from the republicans. I have a feeling Sebelius will be instrumental in this effort...Sebelius '16

Why are the president and Congress working on providing health care? That's not a role of the federal gov't. According to the Constitution, that power belongs to the states. Please encourage our national leaders to stop pursuing this and follow the basic law of the land. Then, if you still believe that other people should provide money for your health care, then talk to your local and state representatives about it.
Remember that health care is not a right. You have the right to pursue good health and take care of yourself, but you are not owned it by someone else. That would be infringing on THEIR rights. Please keep that in mind, and remember that universal health care provided at the national level is unconstitutional.

The special interests who profiteer from our terribly broken system are on the ropes.

The gentleman from Nebraska, Senator Ben Nelson!
So, this guy is opposed to the public plan option because it's a better option???
from
Link
Nelson's problem, he told CQ, is that the public plan would be too attractive and would hurt the private insurance plans. "At the end of the day, the public plan wins the game," Nelson said. Including a public option in a health plan, he said, was a "deal breaker."
-----------
Of course the article mentions his office had no comment (so I won't bother calling his office for an explanation either, obviously they have nothing to add to that really dumb indefensible position).
Nelson seems to working for another country, certainly not the citizens of the USA.

What I ask is that you make sure that all available information is given to the citizens of this country on any health care reform being set up. There was a lot of talk about the USA may follow the canadian health care plan. (My opinion from being a past resident of Canada, PLEASE DO NOT follow that health care system) It is causing problems with that country is higher sales tax, higher governmental tax and it takes forever to get any testing or scans or MRI's done to find out what may be wrong with you.
It is not the way to go, if anything you should be looking at a way to regulate prescription and medical cost. I for one do not like the idea of the government being involved in my choices of health care. It is the wrong thing for this country and will cause nothing but more grief for the middle class and down. This country was built of decissions of risk for many people as well as built on the blood and sweat of those people, whom believed in freedom, patriotism and the ability to choose. Everything I have seen so far will take that away

I am not convinced that a state run health care system will be an improvement on our current system. Take our current state run system for the elderly. Medicare is practically bankrupt and heading for disaster by 2020. Greatly expanding government does not equal better. Have you ever had an experience in a government agency that was positive? I can say this and I work for the federal government.
