Hello Everybody.
Happy Mother Day-

President Obama is coming to Copenhagen my hometown in October for the climate summit. I am an early supporter of his and would like to ask advice from you. We would like to meet him during his stay, and seek his improbable endorsement as we just created an organization called Citizen21, after being inspired by this great leader. I was elected as chairman and we are working to make Danes better citizens in this globalized world. I have had the chance to meet him personally in San Francisco on November 14th at the Civic Center. I would be extremely pleased on behalf of the whole organization if someone could tell us the best way. Should we write to the White House or David Plouffe?
Thanks in advance and my apology for the long post and to those this request might offend.

California needs to tackle their real problem... too low property taxes. Proposition 13 drove their real estate market to skyscraper highs and starved their K-12 schools for years. However, the disparity in property taxes versus other taxes (car registration, sales tax, hotels, tickets, etc.) will continue to cut into every other state service until the tax code is fairer or the state declares bankruptcy.

These banks/credit card companies are too greedy. These companies changed their business models to collect late and hidden fees rather than collect fees for actual services provided.

This really needs to end!

Either we, their customers, stop doing business with these heartless mammoths or new substitutes institutions like local credit unions, local banks, or micro-banking need to take their place.

CitiBank, alias CitiGroup, drug my sis-in-law (a 69 yr. old widow), into court last week for a measly $2,000 +/- in Credit Card chgs, much of which had been accrued from interest/late chgs, etc.
She has nothing but SS chk, & now has to repay those greedy bastards $20 a month, probably for life! That debt could have been written off.

So sickening part is, that CitiBank, alias CitiGroup, received BILLIONS of dollars from us, the American Tax Payers!

For you younger people, NEVER charge more than you can pay off in one month, and you'll NEVER pay interest, or be indebted to greedy corporations.
Sometimes, like buying on-line, or purchasing airline tickets, it is handy to have a credit card.
But treat them like a Toxic Asset!!!!

Yeah, owing your life to the credit card companies is nothing but indentured slavery. Even though some weren't aware this would ever happen, it should be a lesson for America.

1. Don't live beyond your means because you "cahrge it"

2. If you MUST use your credit card, try to pay off at the end of each month.

We should never put ourselves in a position again to be hijacked by these robbers!

I don't know why, but when I was in elementary school, we learned about "Debtor's Prisons," and it made a huge impact on me. (No, I'm not that old that they were still going strong!)

I remember that history lesson to this day (that's how weird my brain is). Ever hear of them?

...better yet, don't use them unless there is an urgent need to. Use only if in an emergency situation.

For the life of me, I will never understand how when I mail my payment to Citibank's payment center (based in Nevada) 10 days before the due date, the payment is posted to my account within 3 days. (from California)

However, if I mail my payment in 7 days before the due date, I'm penalized with a late fee charge.

Somebody please explain that one?!!!!!!!!

"I consider this opening to be especially important, because it reflects one of our most important objectives to draw more attention and resources to the poorest provinces," Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's Special Representative Kai Eide said at a ceremony marking the event.
Mr. Eide, who heads the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), said that the poor and the stable provinces in the Central and Northern parts of the country cannot continue to be neglected.
Pledging to push for an equitable and astute distribution of assistance to the people of Sar-i-Pul and across Afghanistan, he warned that if we allow "this feeling of unfairness to continue, then the result could be instability where there is today stability."

Yes - and (although I kinda can't blame him, even with his somewhat lack of credibility overall) the Afghanistan President wants us to stop all airstrikes - because of the latest civilian casualties, the nature of the war, and his own political purposes - thus putting our ground troops in even further harm.

I trust President Obama fully to do what he has to do, strategically and tactically to include the humanitarian mission, and then ask his generals to start implementing the exit strategy. Can't come soon enough, but I realize it'll take a while.

as i have posted before, i use my discover card, but i don't "owe" them. i pay it off every month. it's my own plan to use their money but not pay them any interest or fees.

(i can never forgive them for telling me i needed to view my "credit card" like my "mortgage" and they should be able to continue to charge me interest on the previous months balance even though i'd paid it off!)

now if i can do the same for my other cards :-(

Thank you so much for addressing the credit card industry's abuses. My credit card from Citibank recently went from a fixed 7.9 to 14.9. It is easy to see how this stifles the economy if it's happening to lots of Americans. It has certainly changed how willing I am to use my credit card. My household has an income in the low 6 figures and I pay the card off regularly. There was no clear reason for this action. I can only assume that Citibank is trying to recapitalize with my money. I look forward to seeing my 7.9 fixed rate return. Thank you, Mr. President, for all you're doing for the American people.

Citibank is offering a low 4.9% for life interest rate in Australia via Emirates for consolidation of all cards except existing Citibank cards... like anyone is going to take this up. It's clear the debt and keep the rest under your mattress time.

Did you look at all the people from the MSM that are attending???

Gee,how many will actually be like little kids and ask for a pic. with President and Mrs.Obama???

We all realize these are the people day after day that give their COMPLETE objection to EVERYHING OBAMA.

Even if this is an event that also gives a great deal to charity, I can't stand the fact that all these people tat re attending DO NOT SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT. IMO.

Thanks. Yes and of course the media wants to make fun of the congressman but to be honest with you, I'm sick of seeing these ads too, at any time of day or night. They don't belong on television, they belong in your doctor's office. In my opinion there should be NO ads for medication on TV at all. Power of persuasion and all that, you know?

I know I might sound like a conspiracy theorist but I think the easiest way to control any large group of people would be through what you feed them first, and then what you medicate them with.

My comment was tongue in cheek, because it was actually - I think - Bob Dole who first used to hawk those ED ads and that was gross at a whole different level. One of the radio hosts in Orlando and his team of talkers used to always mention that the ads would go up just "before dinner" - they talked about them for eons, and everybody on the show hated them.

No food ads; no drug ads; no toy ads.

Maybe President Obama radio/TV addresses in between every show? How would that be for mind control? Well, at least I'd go willingly. (If a troll is reading this, I'm kidding.)

My first attempt at using picture in picture technology and also my first attempt with the song made famous by Cat Stevens. After I uploaded the video I realized that the song was actually written by Eleanor Farjeon. I did put that in the info section of the video. Anyway, most of the video footage and photos have been used in some of my other videos but I thought it would be cool to add my own music and then how the picture in picture works. Please let me know what you think. For the best viewing click on the HD button because it will come in much clearer.

On a side note: Denise and I ran into a rattlesnake this morning on our hike. Scared the bejeebers out of me. I usually walk with my head down a little and I still didn't even see it. All of a sudden it started "rattling," LOUDLY, and when I finally saw it I froze and then slowly backed up. I was able to get a couple of pictures of it and a short video which I'm sure I'll put up on Youtube one of these days. Anyway, the snake finally slithered down in between some rocks and DEnise and I just ran past it. Talk about getting you heart pumping in the morning, geez!

I too, had one of those "snake episodes".
Last year, stepped out of garage door onto patio, heard a noise, thought it was water-hissing-sound from a broken water emitter, looked back at the door I'd just come through....
Right next to the doorway was a HUGE rattlesnake coiled-up to strike!
Screamed so loud can't believe it didn't wake dead, got my doggies around back, into house, and called 911.
Firemen came got it, but understand now one needs to call another agency here in Tucson, as fire dept no longer does rattlesnake removals.

Especially in this Economic climate when BIG BANKS & BIG INSURANCE are running away with the "Pot of Gold", Arnie. And, the "Pot of Gold" is TAXPAYERS money, TAXES these healthcare workers pay.

Think your gonna be the FIRST State Governor to challenge the President, Arnie? So, that the likes of TEXAS, ALABAMA, GEORGIA, INDIANA, TENNESSE, AKANSAS, ALASKA, et al. can follow suit?

IMHo,

Terry is going to have a real hard time getting through a primary.

I still remember him being really NASTY toward the Obama supporters and staff during last year's primary and then when we did get the nomination, he was still talking really harsh about President Elect Obama.

I don't see him getting very far with his bid for Gov. Of Virginia.

In the waning days of the primary campaign, we also saw Terry say whatever somebody wanted him to say, but you could tell even then - after he had fought the good fight - that his heart wasn't in it.

We need somebody to tell us what we need to hear, not want we want to hear (Barack Obama credo!) - whether they are governors or members of congress or our POTUS.

My take, but it's up to the people in Virginia and what the stakes are. I'd rather see Terry in there than an irrelephant.

A pediatrician has never dealt with out patient medicare. Medicaid YES -- But it certainly hasn't been even 50,60,70% of their practice let alone 100%.

ED if single payer will be the deal it is for everyone regardless of what they make!! We already have one for the poor -- it's medicaid. A real start with universal should be a base level of care: yearly MD check ups, minor and spontaneous illnesses, preventive, and catastrophic. That should be everyone, now, regardless of pay -- if you want something REALLY universal. All the rest of us already don't qualify for medicaid -- why would you even suggest something like that "qualify by level of income" as any kind of change?

Oregonians say we need real health care reform that provides every American with access to quality, affordable care. Congress and President Obama are focused on this issue.
Of course there are folks in insurance and hospital industries, from medical profession, and BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES who will have different ideas about how to achieve our goal.
But I was shocked to read a memo from Republican strategist (NOT a medical doctor) Dr. Frank Luntz, laying out plans to DISMANTLE ANY EFFORT to give all Americans ACCESS to QUALITY HEALTH CARE.

Dr. Luntz, (Political Science Spin-Doctor from FOX) who developed language designed to promote preemptive war in Iraq, distract from severity of global warming, is at it again -- this time with a MESSAGING STRATEGY DESIGNED to SINK our HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY for HEALTH CARE REFORM.

Let's be clear: this is not a strategy to push certain ideas about health reform.
It is a STRATEGY INTENDED SOLELY TO KILL REFORM EFFORTS ALTOGETHER.
In his own words, Dr. Luntz has stated,
"You're not going to get what you want, BUT YOU CAN KILL WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO DO."

Not surprisingly, since American public is strongly in favor of fixing broken health care system, Luntz strategy is PREDICATED on DECEPTION.
In his memo, Dr. Luntz lays out MULTIPLE WAYS that OPPONENTS of HEALTH CARE REFORM CAN TRICK and MANIPULATE American public.
One strategy that stood out to me is to call EFFORTS to REFORM our BROKEN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM a "BAILOUT for INSURANCE INDUSTRY."
This statement is developed to serve same interests who stopped at nothing to derail health care reform in 90's, who blocked health care coverage for low-income children, and whose top Medicare priority for 15 years has been transferring money from seniors and taxpayers to insurance industry.
When support for a prescription drug benefit in Medicare became too powerful to ignore, President Bush and his allies created convoluted system we now have.
Rather than simply add a prescription drug benefit to tried, true, and popular Medicare program as Democrats wanted, they devised a GIVEAWAY FOR INSURANCE COMPANIES.
For years Dr. Luntz's CLIENTS have VIRTUALLY ABDICATED health care POLICY MAKING to insurance industry.
Though today, Insurance Industry is engaged in constructive negotiations about how to repair health care system. .........(continued)

Unfortunately for vast majority of Americans who support reform, however, Dr. Luntz's NEW GAME PLAN to stop change is BEING EMBRACED by LEADERS in REPUBLICAN PARTY.

In a briefing where Dr. Luntz PRESENTED HIS STRATEGY to REPUBLICAN HOUSE MEMBERS, Rep. Mike Pence from Indiana, chairman of House Republican Conference, MADE it OFFICIAL by saying, "Frank is back."

So expect a MASSIVE MISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN coming to a HEALTH CARE DEBATE.
Opponents using Dr. Luntz's DOUBLESPEAK will argue for a "balanced, common sense approach" to health care but WHAT THEY REALLY WANT is to KEEP SYSTEM how it is.
They'll SAY THAT a PUBLIC PLAN would NOT be "PATIENT CENTERED," but their REAL GOAL is to BLOCK ACCESSIBLE HEALTH CARE FOR EVERY AMERICAN.
They'll SAY REFORM WILL DENY AMERICANS "CHOICE" even when every American WILL be ALLOWED to KEEP THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE and THEIR DOCTOR.
They'll claim that "quality of care will go down," while callously ignoring fact that MILLIONS of AMERICANS HAVE NO HEALTH CARE AT ALL and millions more are denied medications and procedures they need.

But, I have to give Dr. Luntz credit on one front: he points out that Republicans need to APPEAR to be on "RIGHT SIDE OF REFORM" or they lose health care argument.
Problem is that you can't fake support for reform.
You're either for improving quality and affordability of health care or you're against it.
You're either for expanding coverage to every American or you're against it.
No matter what talking points they use, each member of Congress is going to have to vote for or against improving our broken health care system.
With SMALL BUSINESSES and FAMILIES BEING BURIED BY RISING COSTS, 47 million uninsured, millions more underinsured, American companies losing ground against their global competitors, it is evident to anyone that our health care system is broken.

Republicans and Democrats, insurance executives and patient advocates, physicians and hospital representatives all are working to meet one of America's most pressing challenges.
Do not all agree on what a reformed health system should look like or how to get there, but there are people on all sides who are negotiating in good faith.
USA deserves that debate on merits, NOT poll-tested attack lines intended to prolong broken system we have today.

African National Congress leader Jacob Zuma was sworn in today as South Africa's new president. He was once imprisoned with Nelson Mandela, who attended the ceremony! (Also think I spotted Gaddafi of Libya in the crowd.)

Zuma's career has been plagued by scandals, apparently, and he's quite a unique character (he's known as a charismatic leader; he's the first South African president to practice polygamy and is reported to have three wives and 19 children).

It was the worst experience.

I'm really beginning to wonder about C-Span. This morning's main question is, "are we fighting the wrong war in Afghanistan?" The majority of the callers are all saying we shouldn't be there, just let India, Pakistan & Afghanistan do what they do. Excuse me? Do people really think that a nuclear war in that area of the world won't affect us here in America?

But the point I'm trying to make is that for 8 years the media did nothing but parrot and tout the Bush Administration's talking points about keeping us safe, fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here, etc, etc. So Bush is gone and now we don't need to finish the war with Al Qaeda? WTF? I just don't get the American media. And they have the audacity to complain about the future of journalism, arrrrghhhhh!

It's not like they need to money (I don't think). I am just confused as to why a mother would put her children through this. I guess I could understand if they didn't have any children but this just seems obscene to me. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) will be announcing Tuesday that he will be running for the Senate, according to a source close to the governor, giving Republicans their most high-profile recruit of the 2010 election cycle.

Crist's decision puts Republicans in strong position to hold onto the seat held by retiring Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) Crist holds high approval ratings among both Republicans and Democrats, according to statewide polling, and has forged a moderate governing style that has won him widespread support.

His decision to run came as little surprise to political observers, with the governor and his allies hinting of his interest in running for Congress over the last several months.

My hat is off to Obama -- and to her staff, too. I know how hard they have to work to make sure a project is well-developed and researched. There are many moving parts when executing a successful event that is worthy of the first lady's attention and has a positive and lasting impact. With this work also comes the responsibility to follow up and consistently manage projects such that they amount to more than a photo-op. Although the first lady gives the direction and makes the final decisions on what she wants to do, it's her hardworking and creative staff that has to pull it all together.

This is just horrible. I will say a prayer for that poor sick soldier and the families whose lives have been turned upside down.

Please join me in lighting a candle of hope that those deployment rotations occur soon and safe so that we can get these soldiers home to their families and get them the help that they will need to transition back into society.

Two years ago my twin sons were stationed over there in that Camp.

This upsets me immensely...but for the Grace of God.

Without even reading the article, my take is that things CHANGED when President Obama invited Krugman to the White House for dinner a while back.

I'm loving my President. He's the Tip O'Neill of this generation (working both sides of the aisle, but this time from the White House).

Postal officials estimate the increase will cost the average household $3-a-year.

Other changes taking effect May 11:

-- The postcard stamp increases 1 cent to 28 cents.

-- The first ounce of a large envelope increases 5 cents to 88 cents.

-- The first ounce of a parcel increases 5 cents to $1.22.

-- New international postcard and letter prices are, for one ounce, 75 cents to Canada; 79 cents to Mexico; and 98 cents elsewhere.

Most Postal Service shipping services prices were adjusted in January and will not change in May.
