THOUGHT

When we talk about how 48 million people in the U.S. don't have health care, we should frame it in the context of the total U.S. population. It gives perspective, and adds more punch.

48 million of America's 306 million population don't have any health care.

Two cents is better than no sense.

You should really frame it in the context of voter turnout...

The people that don't have healthcare, most are in poverty...

The people in poverty DO NOT VOTE, ones that do are easily manipulated as they are not educated....

That is why we have these problems....

Look, when all the ballots were cast on November 4th, over 50 million Americans that were eligible to vote didn't....70% of those supported Obama over McCain....

That should tell you something...

If all these people were registered and voted, Democratic candidates all across the ballot would gain double digits...

Until these people represent themself at the ballot box, and are educated/informed voters this stuff will continue....

Americans Back Obama's Policies
A new CNN/Opinion Research poll finds that 63% of Americans think President Obama's policies will push the nation in the right direction, with 35% saying those policies would send the country in the wrong direction.

But the poll suggests that Americans don't feel the same way about the Republicans. Just 39% say that the policies of GOP Congressional leaders would move the country in the right direction, with a slight majority, 53%, saying Republican proposals would move the nation in the wrong direction.

OK EVERYONE! Here's the deal!

We are the OBAMA SENSATIONS! How did that come about. Because we won on November 4, 2009! There would be no OBAMA SENSATIONS had we not won the election. OK, now that's out of the way.

Did POTUS say not everything would be easy? YES! (I don't hear you)

Did POTUS say the opposition would give us a hard time? YES!

The way I see it, they gave us a hard time for 2 years and we managed to knock them out of our way. So we continue to knock them out of our way.

They're old and rickety, they're going to start fallen soon. Trust me on this (or a least humor me), I'm old and rickety and feel like I'm falling so just think, they're way older!!!

I watched it too, and I'm glad I did.

I'm happy that Obama is not letting the human rights people pressure him into jumping into this situation on their time.

This is such a freaking mess, I can't even believe that the ghost of Bush past is damaging Obama as much as it is so soon, especially. This isn't even funny.

He should've let sleeping dogs lie. Transparency was a nice idea, and he obviously had the right intentions. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Transparency isn't an 'intention', but rather a principle. And we can't dismiss principles when they are inconvienient.

(I'm sure I'm not saying anything everyone doesn't already know.).

Yet I do agree with you, had Barack just buried the torture issue from the start we would be be further along on other issues (but rotting from within).

Barack got it right in handling the torture issue, as I'm confident he will continue to do so later today (thurs).

There was just a very interesting piece on Rachel where some journalist had insider info about a meeting Obama had today with liberals and human rights folks. Apparently, it was "tense." What a surprise.

Anyway, apparently, one of the members of the meeting on the liberal side said to Obama, "why don't you prosecute ONE person as a symbol that we don't torture?" Obama said no, there's just too much going on, his staff is bogged down with this stuff - not going there.

Rachel then said that Obama, as President, saying that is wrong, as prosecutions are in the province of the DOJ. I agree.

My thought is this...why, then, has the left been on Obama's ass to prosecute. You can't have it both ways. You can't pressure Obama to prosecute, and then when he says "no," you can't say, "well you have no say, it's up to the DOJ."

My other issue is with this supposed liberal "lawyer" at the meeting talking about prosecuting at least one person as a "symbol." WTF? So that is justice? Cherry pick prosecutions? Make a symbol out of someone?

This whole torture debate is completely out of whack. This could very well sink Obama because he's not backing down, and I don't blame him.

Every day in court I see prosecutors use their discretion in what cases they'll pursue. They take into consideration the strength of their cases, the politics of the situation, timing, etc. This is the REAL WORLD. This polyanna situation that torture prosecution enthusiasts live in is just not real.

And we've got Cheney on the other side giving Obama shit too. I hope those of us in the middle stay strong from our President. He's on our side, despite what anyone says.

Vero, I was watching our president this morning when he signed those 2 bills. He did not appear to be in a good mood. Rightly so. He was not his usual jovial self, and I am sure that he is fed up with all of this torture crap when he has so many things on his plate. Today is probably one of those dasy where he is saying that he is going to do what he think is right and let the chips fall where they may. He is probably fed up with the democrats at this point who is suppose to have his back.

I think that I see this just as you do.
25% of the country is Extreme on the Right
25% of the country is Extreme on the Left
the remaining 50% are in the Middle, which is where PBO is, I believe. And I suspect that most of us who visit this blog fit into that 50% as well.

Like Chris Rock said, there are some things he's conservative about, and there are other things he's liberal about.

And anyone who's got their ideological stance made up before they hear and think about an issue is full of it.

The release of the torture photos is a perfect example of dangerous ideology. To really not be able to bring your brain around understanding why NOW, of all times, Obama doesn't want them floating around, is showing a dangerous level of ideological purism and stubbornness.

That's sad. I didn't get a chance to watch the footage of him signing the bills. Apparently the meeting was before the signing, so your perception of PBO makes sense.

I feel like he is fighting everybody. It's weird. I just have to keep the faith that the majority of us in the middle, who don't quite fit in on either side - left or right - will stick with him to the bitter end. Our country will be just a little bit better if we do not let either extreme drag us into the chaos they're purposely and inadvertently advocating.

I keep telling people that Cheney is not on tv every other day because he's "scared." He wants prosecutions. He wants this torture issue front and center because it's going to take more than jut him down, and in the meantime, Obama's agenda gets killed.

This Nancy Pelosi episode was just a warning at how messy and dirty this torture issue can get.

I think the dear senators and reps are watching their own backs at this point. They may fear that allowing the prisoners to leave Guantanamo will be used against them next go round. Probably will.

They say l in 7 detainees return to the "fight." There are 240 detainees, divide that by seven and you get 34 detainees returning to the fight and only if all of them were sent home. 34. Might be worth it just to close down this quagmire and be done with it.

I would personally be all for a Presidential move to quietly, even secretly send them all home, or at least to Iraq and be done with it. There would be a brouhaha for two weeks and the everybody would breathe a sigh of relief and it would be over. 34. I think we can chance it.

As far as imprisoning them here, why are people so afraid of this? By and large our prisons are sound, especially here in KS and where would they go if escaped?

Big Eddie was beautiful this evening in regards to Limbaugh's MSNBC challenge. He said that he'd take that challenge if Limbaugh would agree to not say anything against Obama for 30 days. Not only that, but Limbaugh shouldn't use derogatory remarks against others, but Eddie also said, that since Limbaugh doesn't know or understand what that is, because he's such a racist normally, that there would be no way to judge this in any rational way. Limbaugh simply wouldn't get it.

But, this piece this evening was done very well to counter Limbaugh's. Congrats Big Eddie! Since Big Eddie just did this on his live show, there isn't a link to it yet.

V Day,In NY,when the kids were little I sold
World Book Encyclopedias ,got to be Mgr.with
many people from all across the world in my group.
The two ladies I could not get to meet in my home
at the same time were from India and Pakistan.They
were neighbors on my block,educated,beautiful and
thankful I had trained them.They hated each other.
Their cultures had taught them well.It took me a
year but I FINALLY got them in a car together as
they both received awards at the company years-
end meeting.From that day on they were civil to

Yes he is! He's taking on all comers to do what he thinks is right for this country. I'd like to know where these groups who're having strokes trying to dictate what the President should focus on, when he should focus on it and who he should involve were the last eight years. Bush and his criminals were allowed to bring this country to the brink of destruction and none of these groups challenged him.

I don't blame him if he was pissed today. We'd better get busy trying to get rid of these weasly dems like Reid and Bayh and the rest who are not supporting this brilliant and sincere President.

I've said before, the repubs are going after Pelosi because she stands with the President. The rest are so spineless and gutless.

Our Pres. is the Washington outsider and he's going to prevail just like he prevailed in the primaries and the general.

We have to help him and his administration fight all these evil, selfish forces.

Regarding health care, I don't care if it's not single payer. I just want to be able to afford it. My husband who's retired just found out this week that he's going from having his medical insurance paid per his retirement contract to almost $400 a month. And the co-payment for his diabetes meds is doubling. Well, there goes his pension check. This is what our President is talking about and what we should be focused on --
NOT TORTURE! Prosecuting Bush is not going to pay my skyrocketing health insurance premiums.

I'm going to have a lot of time on my hands this summer because I'm done wasting time watching ES, KO and RM (she really pissed me off tonight).

Taking a page from the President's playbook. The MSM is a worthless republican PR machine. President Obama won without them and he can govern without them.

Amen, Andrea. I have totally given up on Chris Matthews, I'm not usually home in time for Ed's show, and I have not gotten through a whole hour of KO and RM in quite some time. RM's framing, along with Isikoff, of the meeting PBO held with the liberal human rights groups, was just plain wrong.

I'm sorry to hear about the increase in your healthcare. We need to fight hard for Obama's success because we just can't keep doing what we've been doing on so many levels.

Terrorism Arrests In New York

On the eve of his first major speech about national security policy, the first new major terrorist case of Barack Obama's administration is foiled. The arrested men claim to have a connection to Jaish-e-Mohammed, the Pakistani terror group that has focused mainly on attacks against India and operates mainly in Kashmir. It currently reads as if this capture by the FBI ruins some plan of the Obama Administration, when it seems to me this arrest is a good thing in that the FBI has foiled a plot to kill Jews and attack our military in the U.S.

The Republican are ruthless. I believe they see a young black man, and believe that this is their chance to get over, The people who are torturing him are not even in congress. Newt was told to leave the position as speaker, Cheney is hoping to get a chance at president, and who knows what Limbaugh's problem is.

The only thing I know to do is campaign and donate.The problem is, I cannot always be at the computer donating. I got used to using gift cards to donate with ( instead of a card w/my name on it)because I have had my identity stolen once.

I sent a message to Chris asking if we could have a text system for donating. My phone is always with me,and I can donate as often as I like. I hope we get to that level, because I would be able to really get down with donating!

Race is the elephant in the room regarding the voracity of the opposition Obama is facing. No one wants to talk about it, but it's a factor in the deep and mean-spirited amount of opposition he is facing. This young black man, as their President is a tough pill for many of these old gray haired Washington folks to swallow.

Vero, you hit the nail on the head! The likes of Newt and even some dems heads exploded on Nov. 4 at this brilliant black man winning the presidency. That's why they refuse to say PRESIDENT Obama and always just say Obama.

I agree. It was sad to hear a well-intentioned bill is tainted by this amendment. I secretly wish President Obama would veto this and request that this comes back to him without this dangerous add-on.

You got to hand it to those GOPers, they are experienced manipulators when it comes to twisting or making up facts and putting the blame on the other side. They play it out for as long as they have public attention and when they are found out, or an issue runs its course, they have already started making trouble on something else.

It always seems like the democrats are forever following, trying to clean up the mess, sometimes making a bigger mess or apologising for their mess.

President Obama is trying to be the adult and change this idiotic cycle of behaviour. Because he is the adult, the 'kids' on both sides want and crave his attention. It's your classic child/ parent relationship.

Congress has certainly shown itself to be more concerned with political posturing than in either justice or national security. As a result, both parties have made Obama's case for him; that we should at least table the torture discussion until after we deal with the many pressing issues facing our country.

Perhaps time will give us the ability to look at the issue, but it certainly doesn't look that way at present.

Torture is certainly an important issue, and it is disappointing that Congress is so dysfunctional that it can't deal with such an important topic in a mature way. Yes, we want the law obeyed, and yes people who broke the law should be held accountable. Yet Congress is not on the path of achieving either of those objectives in it's recent political handling of the matter.

It appears Congress needs some adult supervision in dealing with the issue, and it's unfortunate that Barack has to divert his attention to what they should have dealt with on their own.

Democrats of congress better get it together and recognize that Republicans are not following then, they are following the Republicans. In other words, they can lose power by not supporting President Obama. Something else is in my craw...I want them to stop saying "This President", and say President Obama. It is a way to slowly take away his presidency.

They will make Cheney an undercover president, and make President Obama a figure head if they can. Reid is looking at how Pelosi is being attacked, and is preparing for the same thing to happen to him by grinning cheesing and siding with repubs. How trifling is that? Dems are letting repubs punk them out. Because of fear tactics, that is how Bush got a 2nd term. It will also be the way a Dem president only gets 1 term if his party does not do a better job of supporting him. I believe they will find that to be a matter of regret.

Nathan, I do mot like Ed Schultz. I have no endearing term for him such as "Big Eddie". I think he is a jerk, especially after yesterday when he got repubs together to attack President Obama. There is no halfway with me. I am not a far left person, but I am a total Dem to the marrow of my bones. To me, if you are trying to hurt my president you are the enemy.

Ed wants to hurt the president under the guise of being there for his good. He is really disgusting, because he is a smile in your face jerk.Something else that bothers me is the fact that he is going out on those listening tours speaking to people. We have no idea what he is saying. He is on the radio, he is on TV, and he is traveling around talking. All this and he has nothing positive to say about the president.

I think he is helping us to lose our hand in the health care matter,too. I want him to STFU. Is there anyone here who feels that we should boycott his show and bring his ratings down? He is new on MSNBC, but his act is already old. Anytime Maddow is actually more appealing than anybody means there is a problem.

It is important that we give God something to watch. It is up to us to secure the blessings He has given us.
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

The word wait is actually a verb. It means to be a waiter or waitress. It means to be of service. The scripture does not say to "Wait for" the Lord, it is not passive.

I believe that in helping President Obama, we are practicing the Golden Rule that he speaks of so often. I have contacted at least 25 Obama organizations anout the Unity March. I am tired of losing to liars.

One more thing, the devil come to steal to kill and to destroy. I am not saying the Republicans are Devils, but I do believe they share that agenda.

BTW, It is really insulting to put the president on a split screen with Cheney. Disrespectful, indeed. We have to back up our president with more than talk. Just imagine...if they will treat the president with such disdain, imagine what will happen to us if they get back in. I am off work in July, and I am going to The Unity March.

Have been out of blog-touch for a while, wanted to give a quick update.

First off, THRILLED to see the same steady names up here, being part of the solution, vs. part of the problem - kudos to you all.

Second, I'm still involved locally in our community elections and legislation, however I must admit the near-religious devotion I surrendered to the Obama campaign is honestly no there for me.

Once-in-a-lifetime means just that so it doesn't mean I won't stop volunteering.

Second, someone, somewhere threw down the gauntlet and claimed that Long Island will be the "Capitol of Green Living" - well, I think Boulder Colorado are far, far beyond us in this "race" - however - game on!

I'm pulling together a site to accomplish this heady goal - and perhaps others of you out there will be inspired to help green America.

The Greening Process
> Pulls communities together
> Provides employement and student internship opportunities
> Saves tax dollar money in the long run
> Increases property values (as the community becomes more and more enjoyable)
> Promotes health (with local grown food and choosing to walk or bike instead of drive to destinations)
> Delivers a legacy to hand down to our grandchildren's grandchildren.

Cilla, don't you see the changes that have already taken place? When have you EVER seen corporate lobbyists actually conceding anything? Well they are now. President Obama and all of US HAVE changed the paradigm! He said he would open up the White House and he has. He said that everyone would have a seat at the table but that the lobbyists were NOT going to have all the chairs and that President Obama himself would have the biggest chair. And that IS happening. After all the work and struggle we've been through do you just want to give up now?

I'm for - as Kevin used to say - g+ s+ all day.

We are the change, we won, yes we can, you know how to stay fired up and ready to go.

Falling into the trap of becoming defeated by all the you-know-what that's out there wouldn't be doing President Obama very good. Think what his thoughts must be, yet I'm guessing his speech today will not be defeatist.

We can choose to rant and rave about all of the issues and the naysayers and downers (you know the type) can overtake us from far and wide, or we can be grateful we have the right President in the White House at the right time.

Remember what President Obama said about the change that's "gonna come," if we let it: The stars are aligned.

We can go positive and stay positive - as we did together during the election cycle - and get just as fired up as we could by going negative. I'm on that path, no matter how much the negative path tempts me! Join me?

Just listened to an interview with Senator Dick Durbin on CNN.

Did you know? ... that currently there are 348 Terrorist prisononers held in U.S. prisons?

So, much for the argument on moving prisoners from GITMO for TRIAL in the U.S. Also, do people like Senator Harry Reid really think these terrorists would be walking the streets freely?

Besides, the news this morning out of NY, once again, demonstrates that there are HOMEGROWN terrorists already in the U.S.
