this is the way it's done the news receives their daily talking points so today it's obama flip flops on Iraq that will run for a few days until the receive another talking point from the lobbyist that owns the media. I guess joe enjoyed his golf game with bill. It puzzles me how people can lie and try to destroy another human for money some will even sell their souls. They want to say obama is weak I don't think so. They're the ones that have no backbones can't stand up to their bosses for truth. They're weak and have no integrity. I think we should have the biggest protest this country has ever seen against the media and make a vow not to buy their sponsors products until they insist on being truthful that way we help him fight the lobbyist. As long as we keep supporting the lobbyist by buying their products we help to keep them in power it's a two edged sword on one hand we applaud obama for getting them out of politics and we support them by purchasing their products giving them the capital to fight against us. think about it.

Happy 4th! I just got back from Democratic HQ in Dallas. They gave us info for the Obama HQ here. My husband, Garth, and I got deputized to register voters by Judge Steve A Tillery who was there helping prepare for July 4th parades tomorrow. He was very nice as was everyone down there. Anyway, now Garth and I can register voters as soon as we find a good location. We're excited. Happy 4th everybody!

you know, i truly cannot believe that there are people who are one issue voters.

outside of the people who are purposefully causing trouble, there are a lot of people who are truly disappointed in BO because of his stance. It's like they viewed him a the 'second coming' or something. It seems like they got so wrapped up in his change message that they took it as being radical. I have never thought of him as radical, just a truly gifted person who has the ability to draw from the greatness in all....dems, repubs, and inds.

i feel sorry for those who are truly devastated by his FISA stance.....i guess i am talking about the chicken littles. LOL

There have already been alot of artist support but I feel there are more actors, music and paint artists who support Obama that I have yet to see.

To focus on an area of interest for me Im an avid hip hop listener, but not the mainstream radio kind. I like classic poducers like DJ Premier, Dr Dre who produces eminem(and anyone who has heard his music knows he is anti-bush, which I liked). I like artists who have lyrics with substance; people like Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Gang Starr, Outkast.I didn't add Common since I really dig his latest "The People" song which has lyrics descibing how 'my raps ignite the people like Obama'. You know I have a hunch and hope they all support Obama over Mc Cain, I guarantee an artist that is smart enough to capture more moments of this campaign will get me to buy their album. I have yet to see another "Yes We Can" video like Will i am's. Or really a hip hop song that has good production. Also just the right substantive lyrics but not overdone that to a point that makes make the song sound silly.

This rant is directed for actors too. There is a little crunch time to see production done in movies or music, but maybe a single with note-worthy production in music could be used. Maybe a simple clip of many high profile entertainment names coming together in a commercial for Barack. I don't know know but heck my rant isn't to come up with the specific idea I just would like to see more involvement.

It's like everyone who supports him that is a
media icon is sorta holding their breath for November to end. And its pissing me off as someone who supports music and movies. I just hope especially with my conscious rappers and artists that they come out and voice their opinion after November is past when we can use their support for the election right now.

I will not buy a hip hop album next year that has all this pro Obama rhyming lyrics if I dont start to hear some songs dropped now before he is elected because it will just seem like its done for profits and not for the cause. Same goes for actors that want to act about Obama's current campaign moment yet aren't helping. Just my 2 cents.

P.S. My opinion, I think Will Smith would play a good Obama. No offense to either person since I love both their work, but they do have the ear match going for them :) Seriously though it would be great to see a movie going back on what happened, maybe produced around Obama's 6th year in office~

This will be my final word on the brouhaha lately. It irks me royal that the only thing lifted off these blogs by the media was this groups' dissent. I'm not saying the dissenters were wrong. I'm saying the media ignores anything positive and looks for the one negative. They laso were saying all these folks were BO supporters and we all know that not all of them were...some were troublemakers come to get the subject more attention.
If 17,000 of us got together in our own group and were ecstatic over one of the issues, do you think the media would report THAT???

I am sick and tired of so called supporters who are not legal experts and who have not really taken the pains to understand FISA and Sen. Obama’s position. Please take the time to read the various Bills and understand why the “Compromise Bill” is within limits acceptable and better than the previous no oversight Bill.

For all those who do not support Sen. Obama’s position on FISA after his explanation above, what is your real problem? We can not allow the MSM to feed us their understanding of the Bill and paint Sen. Obama as flip-flopping? Has the MSM ever called McCain flip-flopping on any issue and cycled it ad infinitum? We would have wasted all our investment in this campaign if we become sentimental and decide not to support Sen. Obama based on the MSM twist and deliberate effort to divide the us and pull away supporters.

Now, folks let us STOP all discussions on this FISA Bill. PERIOD!!! It is destroying this house of Hope and unique blog we have built. Let us get back to what we know how to do best. Support Sen. Obama and always remember that he is running to be POTUS and not president of the Democratic Party.

I am so glad for a new thread! I just logged on and went to that last thread and EEKS!!!

I guess the TROLLS heard about BO's comments and his policy people answering questions and they all came out en mass.

And yes, I know that SOME of them are actual BO supporters that had questions about FISA, but funny that some of those yahoos, claiming they "worked their butts off" and "donated" and now they weren't going to support BO had no profile and I've NEVER seen them here before.

Sorry, but if you've been working like a dog and donating like a fool, then don't tell me you've never been to this blog and don't have a profile.

This may upset some people, but at this point I will only engage with people that want to have a healthy discussion on here.

there are no rules that say you have to have a profile, or donate, or anything else. But like you said, you need to come with some credibility. Again, I love a healthy discussion of the issues, but if it is now day 20 and if you are still having sleepless nights, then I suggest you contact your elected officials.

The problem that i have with it is the thought of me and my family sitting next to someone at a restaurant who has a gun.

my hubby has a gun and also has a conceal to carry permit, but i dont want him taking it into a restaurant with us. i am ok with him riding with it in the car, but not while he's sitting in a restaurant.

i have never felt unsafe at a restaurant before, now i know that i will be uncomfortable.

it's sad...i am ok with guns, i just don't want it turning out to be the wild wild west.

I think the people that will carry their guns in a restaurant are most likely carrying their guns everywhere anyhow.

I don't think most gun owners just decided based on new law.

Guns scare me. But this is a touchy subject and people feel very passionate about it on both sides. I can respect someone's feelings pro & con.

There will always be crime around you, but guns don't necessarily make you safer. This is the south and I'm from the north. I've lived in GA for over 23 years now, so I consider myself a GA Peach. LOL.

For the most part, I think that you will always have (some) people that look for a reason to use a deadly weapon, but thankfully, this is not the majority of people. Most people that have guns on them are really responsible.

I'll take you to dinner anytime you wish!!!!! And I'll protect you, promise...

Yes, I remember him/her. I rather thought he/she was very young -- perhaps under 14? I was pleased when his/her comments no longer appeared-- they were very abusive and horrifically insensitive to people who lost someone on 9/11.

Anyway, I don't find this blog boring-- I actually find it very interesting. But, then I am not the fastest surfer on these "tubes."

I was going to request that they create a blog that reconciles if a person has donated a certain amount and then the login would work. The rationale is that we could truly discuss issues and strategy without much 'troll patrol' ... in addition if a troll wants to play then they have to pay.

Usually I like your ideas quite a bit, but not this particular one. Not everyone has money to give -- people need to make certain to pay their rent, and feed themselves first. I wouldn't want to exclude anyone simply because they had fallen into austere times.

Hi all, we all want to fight the good fight against the MSM and the "evil" people who want to tear Barack down rather than build us up as a nation.

So it is always good to remember that none of what the MSM or others say really matters that much. The bloggers have already picked sides.

Remember the point.

We register voters. GOTV for early voting and on Nov 4. We win.

Donate, register voters, phone bank, canvas. If we do that, Obama will be the next president. It really is that simple.

On this blog and in our daily lives, we focus on education, not arguing. We win.

Some people will refuse to listen. Provide educational resources and then leave them to ponder, no need to argue. Engage in discussion, sure, but argue ... no point.

July 3 (Bloomberg) -- John McCain is restructuring his presidential campaign for the second time in a year, diminishing the duties of campaign manager Rick Davis and putting Steve Schmidt, a protege of Karl Rove, in charge of day-to-day operations.

McCain aides characterized the move as a natural result of the campaign organization's growth as it ramps up for the fall election. Still, the change raised anew questions about whether the Arizona senator has a structure in place to effectively wage a nationwide battle with his Democratic opponent, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.

``This is a natural scaling up for the general campaign,'' said Nicolle Wallace, a McCain adviser.

I've been running VoteVets.org for a couple of years now. In 2006 and in 2008, we've endorsed a number of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans for Congress. It's still a story that the press is largely interested in, and when they call me to talk about it, I always -- always -- get the same first question:

What is it about their honorable service in Iraq and/or Afghanistan that qualifies them to go to Congress?

It's a legit question, and neither I, nor any of the candidates, take any umbrage at it. As veterans of the current conflicts, they have a unique perspective on the wars that should be part of the debate on the floor of Congress, and a vote that helps shapes our security policy.

Yesterday, John McCain was asked basically the same question by a brave reporter at ABC News. The reporter, not falling for the hysterics and mock-outrage of the McCain camp over General Wesley Clark's comments simply asked what John McCain's experiences in Vietnam did to prepare him to lead the largest military on the face of the earth.

I think this is truly one of his archilles heels. He wants to stay away from this because people will push for the release of his full medical records. Then if they look further into what he did they will find out that he crashed 5 planes and set an air craft carrier on fire. Also being so low in his graduating class (4-5th from the bottom) doesn't bode well. This is supposed to be his strength and he doesn't want it tarnished. I hope more reporters do their job and ask legitimate questions.

It always makes me wonder when a politician balks at what seems like a perfectly legitimate question to me -- Senator McCain doesn't have much on which to campaign; he has no ideas, but more tax cuts and potentially restarting the cold war (by kicking Russia out of the G-8), his economic policies are quite frankly terrifying, and he thinks all of America's problems are psychological.

The next few months is going to work everyone's nerves but we will get through it. We will be strong. Obama's support is deeper than McCain's camp or the MSM realizes it.

Okay, to get us fired up I have a fundraising idea called "Change for Obama".

It would be cool if everyone could get their loose change that resides in your penny jar that has never been emptied, at the bottom of your purse, in pockets or between the cushions of your couch and donate that amount to the Obama campaign. I came up with this idea because I was cleaning out my purse and you won't believe I had over $25.00 worth of change at the bottom of it. I thought that this money could go to the campaign.

Barack needs our help right now. The McCain camp is gearing up for ad blitzes all over the country to try to tear down Barack. Let's lift him up.

It would be great if they could make it retroactive for past donations, too. Summers are a bit tight money wise for us, so probably won't be donating much till our first paycheck in Sept(we're teachers). But I like the idea, cause I would say most of us donate on a regular basis, if only 5 or 10 bucks.

The extraordinary 2008 election year is proving to be quite ordinary in at least one respect: the downward trend in the percentage of Americans identifying themselves as political independents. The proportion of independents in Gallup Poll surveys averaged 36% in the latest quarter (from April to June), down from 39% last fall and 40% last summer.

While the percentage of independents shrunk a bit since late 2007, Gallup trends show relatively little change in Americans' identification with the Republican Party over the same period. This has generally held at 27%, while Democratic identification increased from 31% at the end of 2007 to 36% today.

It’s hardly controversial to point out that many in the corporate media have a fondness for presumptive GOP White House nominee John McCain. The prevailing journalistic attitude was expressed by Washington Post columnist David Broder (4/24/08): “In an age of deep cynicism about politicians of both parties, McCain is the rare exception who is not assumed to be willing to sacrifice personal credibility to prevail in any contest.”

Over the past few months, however, many pundits and reporters have declared that despite the press corps’ feelings for McCain, he will nevertheless face tough scrutiny . . . some day.

After declaring on PBS’s Charlie Rose show (2/8/08) that some of McCain’s rhetoric is beyond criticism (“McCain has a license to use words that the rest of us could not. . . . I mean, he can be pretty out there, using words like ‘surrender,’ because who is really going to question John McCain?”), Newsweek’s Evan Thomas (2/16/08) responded to the idea that the press was fond of McCain and Barack Obama as well:

Maybe so, but it doesn’t really matter, because the press is almost certain to turn on both men. Digging through the personal record, searching for human flaws, is what reporters do when they cover presidential campaigns, and the critical skepticism only deepens when the winner occupies the Oval Office.

On NBC’s Meet the Press (4/27/08), PBS host Gwen Ifill explained: “There’s a lot of time between now and the fall. . . . John McCain is doing a lot of interesting things which will bear closer scrutiny when the time comes."

In an April 25 online chat (cited by ThinkProgress, 4/29/08), Washington Post reporter Shailagh Murray was asked, “Will we see more scrutiny of [McCain’s] campaign finances and practices, or will Obama/Wright continue to suck up all the oxygen?”

Murray’s reply: “This is driving Democrats crazy right now, but just wait. Once the primary battle is over, Senator McCain will get his fair share of scrutiny.”

When Newsweek’s Richard Wolffe was asked on MSNBC (4/30/08; cited by Media Matters, 5/1/08) whether McCain received a free pass from the media with regard to his ties to right-wing evangelist John Hagee, he declared:

Absolutely. And look, we’ve all heard evangelical ministers, white ministers, condemn America and damn America for abortions. And so, yeah, I don’t think

And so, yeah, I don’t think there’s an equal balance of criticism and focus here. In some ways, John McCain is getting a free ride. But of course, that doesn’t take away from the offensive nature and the outrageousness of what Reverend Wright has said. But at some point, that scrutiny will come.

Tim Russert spoke on the Don Imus show (5/5/08; cited in CJR Daily, 5/6/08) on the same subject: “I don’t think the Hagee thing, McCain hasn’t been questioned, has not been scrutinized about that. . . . He’s really been given this grace period to go around the country.” Russert said the same thing that evening on MSNBC (5/5/08; cited in CJR Daily, 5/7/08): “When Senator McCain is back in the media’s light, he’ll receive the same kind of scrutiny.”

When blogger Huffington argued (Good Morning America, 5/1/08) that McCain “is not getting the scrutiny he deserves,” ABC anchor Charles Gibson replied: “But Arianna . . . we got a big Democratic race going on now. The McCain/X race, whoever he runs against, will get very major attention soon.”

It’s unusual to hear reporters admitting that even though a prominent politician and presidential candidate is saying and doing things that deserve scrutiny, they haven’t gotten around to giving his words or deeds much attention.

McCain’s recent activities do cry out for media coverage. On April 18, McCain released his own tax returns, showing that he has next to no assets in his own name, while keeping his wife’s sizable fortune private—a tactic that attracted intensely skeptical coverage when Sen. John Kerry tried it in 2004 (New York Times, 5/9/04). Or consider McCain’s blaming a bridge collapse last year in Minneapolis on earmark spending—a claim the alleged Straight Talker promptly withdrew (L.A. Times, 5/2/08). New numbers from CNN reveal that Americans think both Barack Obama and John McCain are flip-floppers -- but like them just fine anyway:

Sixty-one percent of voters believe that McCain has changed his mind for political reasons; 37 percent do not. Fifty-nine percent of voters believe that Obama also shifts positions with the political winds; 38 percent do not.

That's a change from 2004, according to Holland. “One of the reasons President Bush won reelection in 2004 was that only one-third of voters believed he would change his policy positions because of changing political dynamics. Most voters, on the other hand, believed that John Kerry was a flip-flopper.”

Barack Obama has a 5-point lead in Montana, according to a new poll from Rasmussen Reports. John McCain had led by 5 in their only previous poll of the state back in April.

It would, obviously, be premature to conclude that Obama is the favorite in Montana. Our regression model still thinks that the state ought to favor McCain by about 6 points, and will probably maintain that opinion until we see some other good results for Obama in (i) traditionally red states or (ii) states out West. Thus far, Obama's bounce had come mostly in blue and purple states east of the Mississippi, which is why this result is surprising.

But there are two things I think we can make of it. Firstly, it certainly validates Obama'a decision to campaign in North Dakota today. If you'll recall, Obama has already spent several days in Montana. Yes, that was nominally in connection with the state's Democratic primary, but at that point Obama was already 80 percent of the way to general election mode. While I don't think Obama is the odds-on favorite to win Montana, he very probably is the favorite if he runs a campaign there and McCain doesn't.

Secondly, we're seeing a bit of a cultural divide in Montana between cultural conservatives who have resided there for a long time, more libertarianish folks who have resided there for a long time, and new migrants who like the cheap land and beautiful scenery and bring more of a West Coast mentality to the state. In this poll, Obama leads by 27 points among Montanans who rarely or never attend church, and by 20 points among people who attend occasionally, but trails by roughly the same margins among people that go to church at least a few times a month.

A couple other polls out today too. In Rhode Island, which also hadn't been polled in a long time, Obama leads by 28 points in a Rhode Island College survey. This is not a surprise considering his recent results in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Speaking of which, there is yet another poll out in Connecticut, this one by Research 2000 on behalf of Daily Kos, which shows a 22-point lead for Obama (and suggests that Joe Lieberman would lose to Ned Lamont if that matchup were held today). Finally, a Strategies 360 poll in Washington has Obama ahead by 8.

The move would mark a major departure from tradition but would be in keeping with the candidate's desire to build a large grass-roots campaign focused on change.

LOL! You are probably right. There was an article in my local paper this morning about how Obama leads McCain by 21 points in Connecticut. The funny part about the article is this....

"Even if McCain were to pick Sen. Lieberman as his running mate, more than 80 percent of those polled said it either wouldn't change their vote or it would hinder McCain's chances."

just in case you missed me harping on this the other day...

I wish we could have a very aggressive email force, like we did during the primary, emailing the MSM with the facts. I keep hearing on here all the media portraying Obama as changing positions on things.
We used to really be ON that task, here on the blogs, and I felt we were accomplishing something by being here, but now it seems like we are just complaining to ourselves, which does no good.

How can we have a focus like that again? I know it made a difference in the dialog on the MSM several times during the primary, and also, it made it obvious how many of us were here supporting him!

I wish I could remember some of the bloggers who kept us up on who needed to be emailed, and were such an inspiration to us then....

I am still trying to be vigilant with the media and blogs.
I think holding the media accountable is one of the most important things we can do for this campaign. If they get away with constant distortions and falsehoods, it just gets worse. They need to be made aware that we are paying attention.
I email the pundits as well as using the 'contact me' option on the network websites. Sometimes I even pick up the phone and call direct.

I usually just say, so and so made an error and i'm sure they would like the correct information. Please make sure to pass this on to them. And I always try to offer a good source for the info I am giving them

I will vote for Obama. That will not change. I will not tolerate a "scott-free" exit by Bushco and will be very concerned at any more leanings in that direction.

Nixon died a respected former US president. The murders of JFK, RFK and MLK are still unsolved crimes. George Bush STOLE the 2000 election from the elected winner.

To let these Bushco criminals walk away from their crimes is not compatible with "change" in Washington and will assure we will see Jeb Bush in the oval office in the next ten years.

I am done fighting over this instance of civil telecom immunity ... out of respect for Obama and because he respected me enough to explain his decision ... as if I were an adult ... imagine that!

I will however, be extremely disapointed in any further movement in that direction and will not put my head in the sand about it.

I don't think you are a troll.

I do think it highly unlikely that any one of us will always agree with each other or Senator Obama.

That is the nature of democracy -- we have the right to disagree. What I continue to appreciate about Senator Obama is his desire to raise the debate from the gutters and elevate that debate to an adult civilized discussion. There will always be debate, though, and there will probably be another instance in which you disagree with Senator Obama (or many of us here).

This is not a site where people walk in lock-step, ceding our right to think for ourselves to another (as Rush Limbaugh asks his listeners to do -- he literally asks them to let him "do their thinking" for them!) Yet, I don't think we can expect Senator Obama to walk in lock-step with any one of us, either.

At campaign stops and in interviews, he has regularly emphasized his promise to start bringing home troops as soon as he is elected, and to bring home one or two combat brigades each month, so that the approximately 19 combat brigades are out within 16 months.
Less noticed is his promise that he will listen to military commanders and react to events on the ground – caveats that give him wide latitude.

Obama says he wants to keep a “follow-on force” in Iraq that would fight terrorists, protect U.S. forces and facilities, and train Iraqi forces. Obama has not provided an estimate of how large that force might be.

In a debate with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on April 16 in Philadelphia, Obama said: “I will always listen to our commanders on the ground with respect to tactics. Once I’ve given them a new mission … we are going to proceed deliberately, in an orderly fashion, out of Iraq.”

He continued: “If they come to me and want to adjust tactics, then I will certainly take their recommendations into consideration. But ultimately, the buck stops with me as the commander in chief.”

Thanks to all good news bloggers. I came on this evening to hear some good news and share some good news. I'll be logging off shortly. My good news, if you haven't seen it way up above on the thread is: My husband and I went to get deputized to register voters in Dallas County, Texas today. We went to the Dallas Democratic Headquarters and they were very nice. They deputized us, they gave us directions to the Obama Dallas HQ (the one that is open on Wednesdays), and we gave a donation to them. They are trying to raise 500.00 for local Dallas HQ. The other good news that I did not mention above is: A man named Dave who is an Obama supporter was selling Dallas Morning News Subscriptions, which I usually don't buy, because I have to recycle all that paper and just have to do so, and I bought a subscription from him. Needless to say, if he had not been an Obama supporter I would have bought nothing from him. So, he did his sales pitch and I did my Obama thing and he asked how to get involved fundraising. He'd be really good--he's an old hand at this stuff and I'm a newbie who's doing pretty well. Anyway, I gave him te information and he says he's going to sign up on line and help out tonight. I hope he really does. Even if he doesn't and it was all a sales pitch, I bet he tells someone about this ObamaMama he talked to and someone he knows or someone they know will visit Obama's campaign site and get involved. Pray, pray, pray that it's so. Thanks again to everyone who has shared good news tonight. Love y'all. That's about it from me tonight, except thanks to everyone who has donated to Obama's campaign this week or today--on any of the donation sites. Moreover, thanks to all y'all for all your hard work for Obama whatever you're doing for the campaign.

I'm feeling kind of down, been moping around so I says to my boyfriend, "You know if gave me your debit card so I you can donate and be one of the 150,000 people to declare your independence from a broken system, it would really perk me up." He says, " Oh really mighty funny me giving you my debit card is the only thing that can perk you up." Needless to say he handed over the card and is now a first time donor for the Obama campaign.

If he responds, "I'll cross that brige when I get to it," then the media will accuse him of "ducking" the question because he doesn't have a good response NOW!! They'll make him look unprepared and uninformed.

The last thing a presidential candidate wants is for the media to start branding them as "uninformed or unwilling to take a stance." That's why they ALL give these silly answerrs to hypotheticals, which they should never try to answer, but they know the risk in NOT doing so!!!

For those of you who are still onboard, I want you to get some needed rest over the 4th of July weekend and just enjoy yourselves.

The past week has been brutal on this blog and I just want to let you know how honored I am to work with you guys on electing Barack the next POTUS.

I never thought I would see a day like today. Many trolls, and many authentic Barack supporters trashing our candidate's good name for the sake of pushing ONE ISSUE out of many that we need Barack to address.

I am deeply saddened and quite embarrassed to be a frequent poster on this blog. It has been HIJACKED by people who want Barack to think exactly the way they do on every issue or else...

This "my way or the highway" attitude is just as ugly, disgraceful, and childish coming from the left as it is from the right. It's the mentality of a terrorist.

I am not upset with "supporters" who express their disagreement with Barack on certain issues, but I am appalled by people who result to name calling, insults, and questioning his character.

Do these people really think that a perfect candidate even exists? Can they at least give Barack credit for responding to their concerns about the FISA bill in a way he thought would comfort them? No. Instead, they used his blog to post more insults and declare mutiny.

When this election is over, I plan to register as an Independent. I have been a Democrat for almost 20 years. Today, I learned how disgustingly selfish the left can be. They are unwilling to sacrifice ANYTHING for a greater purpose.

Again, I want to thank all of you are truly committed to winning this election for our once in a lifetime candidate.
