Speed is relative. 25 minutes for a message to travel from the US to Helsinki, Finland, is so slooooowwwwww by modern standards. If I´m awake for 5 minutes without news from the campaign, I feel I´m definitely losing something important. Back in 1808 it took a few days before the government in Stockholm knew they were in war with Russia in Finland...

Obviously, SP's strategy for the VP debate was to ignore the questions asked by Gwen Ifill and just talk about what had been programmed into her by the campaign and the GOP. I guess it was able to work for her because no one expected much from her in the first place; the bar had been set so low based on her most recent performances. We also know that if she HAD directly answered the questions that were presented, the result would have been as bad if not worse than the interviews.

Will that also be McCain's MO? To me, he often comes across as having the attitude of entitlement. That since he was a POW (he's going to milk that for all that it's worth) he is entitled to do or say anything he wants and it will be accepted. So it wouldn't be a stretch to think that he would expect that he could ignore the moderator's question or Senator Obama's questions and will be get away with it.

Of course, it will be up to the moderator to push the issue. To call McCain out if he does not directly answer a question. It will also be up to the moderator to challenge both candidates, but especially McCain when the facts are mis-stated. They should also call McCain on those situations where he denies making a statement. Statements that have been replayed so many times that to deny it would be an outright lie or raise questions of McCain's mental capacity. But will they?

AND it will be up to Senator Obama, not only to highlight when McCain does not directly answer a question, but to also raise questions in American's minds as to why he won't answer a question. It will be up to Senator Obama to keep McCain on the defensive.

I don’t believe McCain can win the debate based on his knowledge, awareness, or eloquence. He definitely won’t win based on his charming personality. The only way he can win is by keeping Senator Obama from doing what he needs to do…that is, getting out his message of change, especially for working, middle and lower income Americans.

Don't let them get you off your message Senator Obama!

I was watching after debate shows with moderators talking with journalists about what the candidates should do. I heard one say that when everything got dirty and mean for Bill Clinton when he was running he got together a team of 10 people to fight the ads and smears. I thought we already have fight the smears but this was beyond that and they were dedicated to it full time. Some required immediate ads made, and some required the candidate speaking himself about it and other times surrogates would handle it. I hope we have at least this many people working on it for Obama.

My guess is the trolling is so bad, they have been forced to manually screen posts. I can't think of any other reason for the slowness. Even people playing the first game never managed to slow it down this much. The website seems to refresh quickly enough, only the posts are delayed.

This Sunday (04Oct08) as part of the homily the priest will discuss “murder” what we know as pro-choice. There will be no talk of the economy, health care, “love thy neighbor” don’t practice racism, only abortion rights the decision the celibate men and women of the church should not have to ever be put in a position to choose.
Thanks God the Catholic nuns have formed their own group pushing for the bishops to stop only speaking about abortion against Obama and allowing McCain to increase poverty, lack of health care and promote racism.

The Alaska Governor accuses the Illinois Senator of “palling around with terrorists who would target their own country” with while speaking to GOP donors in Englewood, Colorado Saturday.

Her remarks come in response to a New York Times story on Obama’s relationship with former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers.

Here we go...The McCain campaign are a group of lying hypocrites. They trash the NY Times and call them in the "tank" for Obama and write them off until they quote them when launching an attack on Obama. Give me a break.

No worries. This is "old news" and nonsense. Obama was never close with Ayers and condemned his violent acts in the 1960s. Most people will see this for what it is -- a desperate attempt by the McCain campaign to smear Obama. Only it won't work this time. By the way, if Mccain wants to play dirty, Obama should consider bringing back Mccain's asoociation with Charles Keating in the Savings and Loan scandal that nearly destroyed his career. I'm sure the American people would love to hear how Mr. Deregulator profited handsomely, especially given the Wall Street Bailout.

It is my understanding that the NY Times article talked about how Obama was 8 when Ayers was in the Weathermen and that the connection between Obama and Ayers was only through serving on a board together. Of course that didn't stop Palin from lying about it. However, I'm not sure it's going to work this time. Even on AOL, most people thought that this type of tactic will not work and will hurt McCain/Palin not Obama. The poll is up on their main page - aol.com.

TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Charlie Crist has a message for any new voter worried about running afoul of Florida's new and controversial ''no-match'' law: Open your mail.

Under the new law, voters who registered after Sept. 8 -- but whose names don't match the state's Social Security or driver's license databases -- are notified by mail to fix the problem or face casting a provisional ballot on Election Day.
......
For a provisional ballot to count, a no-match voter would have to cast that ballot at their precinct and then make sure elections officials receive a copy of their driver's license or Social Security card by the Thursday after Election Day. As of Monday, about 5,324 no-match registrants statewide had yet to respond to county mailers to clear up their issue.

Since Sept. 8, 131,540 people have registered to vote. Of those, 20,355 showed up as a no-match during a computer database query. But state officials manually checked names, addresses and signatures and determined that 13,042 registrants showed up as a no-match due to data-entry typos or misprints. Counties verified nearly 2,000 more.

This may have been posted earlier, but Jill Biden's mother is in a hospice in PA. Joe has cancelled all appearance today and tomorrow. As, to my knowledge, no one is in a hospice unless they are terminal, please join me in prayers for the Biden family at this sad time.

No matter what your age, it's tough to lose a parent. Sad day!

The Nation describes this Rafaello Follieri as an “A List” con man, and who knows Balkan con man stratification charts better than the Nation? Yesterday, this dude pleaded guilty in a Manhattan district court to many counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and other rich mobster crimes. His “big thing” was posing as Vatican chief financial officer “in order to win friends and investments.” Link

I was just on CNN's political ticker and learned that Sarah Palin is using the NYT article about Obama's relationship with Ayres as an attack about how Obama associates with terrorists. I am sick to my stomach! How dare this woman from nowhere begin to think that she is an expert on Obama's life.

She is such a lowlife. Who makes over $120,000 a year and only pays 9% to 16% in taxes. That is unheard of. My son was a first year teacher last year, made $36,000 and his effective tax rate was about 27%.

I wish something big would come out about her that would once and for all get her off this soap box. This is a serious election not a beauty pageant!!

Everyone needs to read the whole NYT's article which debunks any link beyween Ayers and Obama...Chuck Todd also has a valid summary on his blog.

Obviously Palin's reading comprehension is as deficient as her honesty.

My daughter, 24, was an Obama Fellow in the summer and is now studying in China. Next Saturday she will be giving a lecture to 500-1000 Chinese students about her experience as a grassroots organizer and Obama supporter. She would like to include some Obama youtube vidoes but doesn't know how to download them and has a very slow connection. Can anyone help her with this? Thanks, Barbara

I teach as well and have tried to download You Tube Videos. I couldn't figure out how to do it. I ended up hooking up to the internet, signing on to you tube and projecting it onto a screen using a projector. Maybe this will work for her.

Tell her to go to Barackobamadotcom on the youtube website. She can choose which videos she wants and then put her mouse indicator (the little arrow)on the upper right hand corner of the video and the download option should come up. she then click on that and the video will download.
She does this for all of the videos she wants.

OK. I DO hope that someone close to Obama will read this. I think that Tuesday Obama should talk straight to the camera and to the entire world about McCains public announcements to go all out "character assassination" style. Tuesday would be his opportunity to call McCain on the carpet on this "tactic" to go negative rather than laying out a plan or talk aboiut the issues. It would be the ultimate preemptive strike on McCains negative crap cannon.

Is there someone out there reading this that can let us all know if Obama will address this? The debate forum would be perfect. Clear the air with honesty even before McCain can try to seed the clouds with his crap.

(CNN) — Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden is cancelling his campaign events for Saturday and Sunday as his mother-in-law battles a serious illness.

The Senator from Delaware's campaign spokesman, David Wade, put out a statement saying "the campaign has cancelled Sen. Biden's schedule today and tomorrow because of a serious illness in Jill Biden's family. Hospice has advised the Bidens to remain close by, and we appreciate everyone's respect for the family's privacy."

Wade is referring to Biden's wife's mother, Bonnie Jacobs, who is in a hospice in Pennsylvania.

Biden was scheduled to speak in Washington D.C. and then attend a fund-raiser in the nation's capitol Saturday night. Sunday he was expected to campaign in Virginia.

McCain is not only an absolutist, but a danger to himself and the nation. In this closing days of the Presidential campaign, McCain, Karl Rove protégés and their associated groups (527s and so) are gearing up to wage a cultural war of division and hate. What they have amnesia about is McCain's involvement in S&L bank scandal as a member of the notorious "Keaten Five." That scandal earned McCain the honor of being the only member of Senate ever reprimanded for "bad judgment." Talking about keeping company, The Nation’s website in mid-September published a photo “of McCain celebrating his seventieth birthday in Montenegro in August 2006 at a yacht party hosted by convicted Italian felon Raffaello Follieri” (See also The Nation, Oct.1/08). McCain wants to talk Jeremiah Wright; time for Democrats to remind him about Palin’s witch doctor pastor blessings in her church at Wasilla. Should McCain-Palin ticket win, are they going to be having séances in the White House? McCain shouts about ‘earmarks” is an accusation against nearly all members of Congress that may even include himself. For instance, McCain had requested funding for special projects in Arizona, including “$10 million for a center at the University of Arizona, $5 million for a home-state water project and spending authority to purchase land around Arizona's Luke Air Force Base.” (Politico, Oct. 2/08). Democrats must not let McCain's attacks go unanswered with equal force and speed--or they will become sitting ducks like Dukakis and Kerry. As a foreigner who has an American mother and so a right to vote, this is the first time I've decided to do so. Before I never felt strongly enough to do so. Now I feel that to not vote would be a disaster. I spend a lot of time traveling all over the world and I can assure everyone that most places are firmly behind Obama, especially the Middle East where I spend a week in six. I may not live in America but I visit there several times a year and I love the country as does my American mother, and I sincerely hope that my vote will make a difference. Definitely time for a change.

I live in Ohio and voted today for Obama. On the way downtown I began thinking about how important this vote was to me and how proud I am that he will be next president.

I think the campaign should put out an ad that shows Palin saying that the NYT is "hardly ever wrong" and then jump to the NYTimes quote regarding the flimsy association between Senator Obama and Ayers.

Yes, Governor, the NYTimes is hardly ever wrong and the association is very flimsy between Senator Obama and Ayers, however, McCain's associations with hard-core lobbyists are strong and wrong for this country.

The campign should stay away from negative campigning. They need to stick to the economy. Call JM out for dodging economic issues. Barack can counter negative ads by saying Mccain wants to distract you from the things that really matter to you Jobs, Healthcare, home ownership.etc. After all Mccain will do well regardless of the outcome. 12 houses, 13 cars and

Yes, don't resort to throwing mud back as the people are tired of this kind of politics. They do not remember who started it only that both participated. Stay on the issues. Defend as needed. Use the surrogates. Did anyone notice the graphs under the debate pictures on CNN? Everytime something negative about the other person was said the graphline went down.

If you print up your voter registration card online and don't know where to send it, take it to your county clerk. The county clerk will accept it and send you a notice of registration in the mail.
