I just voted. The local news said that as usual, my county had massive mess ups, many people did not receive their absentee ballots, and it wouldnt matter if they did, because most of them were printed wrong and totally unreadable by the optical scanners (the stock they were printed on was too thick).

My girlfriend drives past our polling place every morning on her way to work, and she said the lines were enormous, and she was not about to wait three hours to vote. So with that in mind, I decided to walk to the polling place.

I am rather severly disabled,and not able to walk easily and so had to use my walker to get to the polling place, which is about a half mile away. It took a while, as I had to stop and rest every hundred steps or so, but by the time I got there, there were no lines, and it took me about three minutes to vote. Nothing was going to stop me from getting to that polling station, so I took extra medication and hit the sidewalk.

An elderly woman poll worker (New Deal Democrat in fact) hinted to me that this is the way it is every year. Long lines in the morning, longer ones after 5 pm, but between 11 AM and 3 PM there is usually no waiting, so I got on the phone and had my girlfriend ask to leave work for about 20 minutes to go and vote, and she just called me and told me she voted as well.

Given the very conservative local administration, I would imagine that there is going to be a lot of arguing over who voted for who on those forms. I live in what is considered to be the most conservative county in my state, even though in the last years census of the area, 54 percent of the residents were minorities and inclined to vote Democrat when they vote.

But from what I heard in consversation between a lot of the locals at this polling place, I suspect that an Obama upset is very, very possible here, in a state that gave George Bush a goodly double digit lead in 2004.

I was SO EXCITED about voting today. After being let down in 2000, and again in 2004, I can honestly say that Mr. Obama has truly inspired me to believe in this process, and to believe in the CHANGE WE NEED. THANK YOU, Mr. Obama, for being the candidate we need to lead this country out of the darkness and into the light again. I (a nursing student) voted for you, my daughter (an 18 year old first-time voter) voted for you, and my husband (a 23-year UAW from Chrysler) will be voting for you after work.

THANK YOU ESPECIALLY for being the ONLY CANDIDATE to mention the fact that American cars are taxed unfairly overseas and that foreign cars are given tax breaks here. PLEASE let's keep jobs in America and PLEASE let's give the "Big 3" in Michigan a chance to survive and thrive!

OK EVERYONE - LISTEN UP - I'm one of the people who volunteered to make calls today and we just got an email from the campaign letting us know that we aren't close yet to reaching their goal for calls today and that it is URGENT that people start getting on the phones to call people to make sure they have gone to vote and they get their family and friends to vote. The votes are really close in many of the swing states. So please get off the blog right now and go into the Action center to help out making calls! They need 2000 more people to commit to making 50 calls! Go now.

Most of his family lives in Indiana-- and they tell us that Indiana will be voting for Obama!

Just a little update from Michelle B in OH.

got up at 6:00am, went to my polling location at 6:30am stood in line for 2 hours with my husband, friends and neighbors (my neigborhood is 95% for Obama judging by the signage and the conversations this morning).

Canvassed from 9:00am to 12:30 pm-- about half of the people I talked to had already voted or were on the way.

In short, I feel REALLY GOOD ABOUT OHIO!
WE'RE DEFINITELY GOING TO TURN IT BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in a democratic neighborhood in a conservative county.

But I canvassed in an area that was split-- I saw signs in the same yard that supported local republicans but Obama/Biden at the national level. I think there's a lot of that going on.

I was so excited about voting today that even with excruciating back pain, I went with my husband and picked up two of my grandchildren ages 4 & 6 and we went to vote!
I got annoyed when they asked for I.D. because they never do here, but I had it with me and showed it to them. I asked why they were asking for I.D. and one man at the table said they didn't have to ask, but the woman who asked me for it said she asks everyone.
There was no line to wait on here. I heard that early in the morning there was a long line - but when I went we just walked in - voted - and left.

I was just so excited - really. Today is a very special day.

I saw on TV, and I heard on the radio that Philadelphia turnout has been pretty light!

the polling places have been UNDERWHELMED so far!

They are also turning out very string for Mccain in Middle of PA and western PA.

Our people better get on this or we could really drop PA!!!!

Make calls, and lets not do any touchdown dances yet!

We could drop this thing if we lose PA!!

I knew that state would be a problem!!

I remember hearing Chuck Todd saying last week that we still didnt pay the street money to get the people out if force. It was the same problem we had in the primary when we underperformed in Philyy down town.

I cant beleieve that will all the money we had, we didnt just pay the stupid street money to make sure people got out to vote!!!

BTW..we need a 500,000 advantage out of Philly and the suburbs to carry that state because the rest of the state will mostly go MCcain.

Remember that in 2000, and 2004 the turnout was really low in Philly, so maybe they are comparing it to that!

Calm down. My sister-in-law said the lines were extremely long when the polls opened at 7am. She witnessed the lines from the bus. Also, local tv has shown long lines all morning. Besides this time of day will be slow--it will pick up again after 3pm. Lots of people couldn't take off from work and won't show up until after 5pm.

I wanted it to be wonderful, I wanted to just take in the moment of what I had just done. I wanted to realize I had just voted for a bi-racial man, having three of my own.... instead I walked out to the sound of angry voices yelling that Barak condones abortion..... YUCK!

I hear ya Mel. I live in deep red territory too and it is VERY depressing. I get sick to my stomach because I see nothing but McPain Failin signs everywhere and one or two Obama signs.

but....it's times like that when you have to dig deep, just like Barack said when he gives his speeches. He thinks of that woman Robin who said to him, "When you feel like you can't go on, dig deep and think of us".

My entire family has cast their votes today- unanimous Obama/Biden of course!! from Denver, CO to here in ND to Maryland.. every single member of my brilliant family VOTED TODAY!!

Now for a vent- because I'm pissed and fed-up. I went to the corner store, and commented on the tons of people out and about today- I said I hope it means everyone is out voting (they are!).. the young female clerk stated 'not me' I'm not voting! I said how on earth could you not vote, women died so you could have that right.. and this is what she said to me (remember I am in a small town in NORTH DAKOTA) she said: Oh if Obama wins they'll just assa**** him in 6 months anyway and then the other guy will win - so why bother?? I said: Are you kidding? First of all it doesn't work that way.. and second of all this is NOT 1972 and he is SAFE. She then states: Well the guys down at the local Fire House have already been talking about it- and if he isn't ki***d- then they are all moving to Canada. (there were a LOT of people in the store during this conversation- and this is a very RED town in NW ND) I said very LOUDLY: Good! Let them ALL move to Canada - wherever- but I'll tell you what there are more of us than there are Racists in this country- and as far as I'm concerned they can all get the hell out of America- there time has long passed. She said: Well I do hope he wins. I said: Then you should vote.. and he'll win in a landslide!

I am the mom of 3 bi-racial sons, the oldest is 30, the youngest is 9. I have 4 multi-racial grandbabies. And I am FED-UP the Hell-up with RACISTS And BIGOTS. And for some safe little caucasian female to be sitting in smalltown ND giving up her 'freedom' to vote when there are 103 year old AA women, daughter's of ex-slaves in TEXAS BRAVE enough to vote then BY GOD who the heck is this young woman NOT to Vote???

After being let down in 2000, and again in 2004, I can honestly say that Mr. Obama has truly inspired me to believe in this process, and to believe in the CHANGE WE NEED. I (a nursing student) voted for you, my daughter (an 18 year old first-time voter) voted for you, and my husband (a 23-year UAW from Chrysler) will be voting for you after work.

Just like I voted for him in my primary (NJ) changing my status from Independent to Democratic to do it...but I am a bit nervous only because there were so many very elderly people voting and I was worried that there may be more McCain voters even though I know many elderly voters are for Barack. I hope these elderly people know that Barack would do much better for them and other middle class people - McCain wants to cut Medicare and will be bad for seniors.

It is just that McCain has been so busy stirring up hatred and divisiveness that I worry that some elderly may become confused...these white elderly voters seemed very, very old and infirm. Police were helping them out of their cars and offering to drive them back home. I was wondering since I felt that I had never seen so many very elderly - this was in Bergen County, NJ.

I also called from home last weekend and called today. Some people I talked to said they had received multiple calls. The setup on my computer was really great for calling - easy and clear.
