I have long thought she was a silent supporter. As secretary of state she knows that John's way would not work. Also, when asked during an interview who she was supporting she refused to answer. If she was supporting the candidate of her party she would have said so, don't you think?

Between now and January, a transition team will be appointed to manage the trasfer of authority in all respects. Cabinet members will be chosen, etc. The cabinet memebrs will have to still be Ok'd by the senate, but at that point, it is largely just a formality.
January 20th will be the official day that he takes over the white house.

This might not be the right place for this comment, but although I'm a "left wing nut", and besides all political divides, besides all of her many political missteps, I deeply respect Condoleezza Rice. America has produced many heroes, and I really think she's one of them. :)

What a joy! Senator Obama is HOPE for our Nation.May God Bless him and his family and guides him in directing this complicated world. I have not seen a politician move people like Obama has done since John F. Kennedy. Although I am 48 yrs old I do remember President Kennedy. but people were posting, saying they are happy and leaving, not answering to each others. It was a little bit a juxtaposition. Would like exchanges. It's because of this I would like to have answers.

No I wasn't in Grant Park last night because I couldn't get an invitation (a ticket). I watched all of it on TV and on the computer.
One funny thing is that I got on one of the blogs last night and predicted to my friend, (who is not familiar with everything on this website but wanted to know what the world is saying about this victory), that we will see someone blogging from Paris! And there you were and in fact the first one on that blog. I can tell you that she was amazed.
I did made my hotel reservation two months ago for the January 20th, 2009 inauguration in Washington, DC. Now I still trying to find out where I can get any ticket to these historic festivities.
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate.
Maybe we will see you on this side of the Atlantic in the coming months! ;)

LOL, ROFLMAO !!!!! Of course I was there, and I remember I was first ! Was out of question no to be there. I helped to prepared a campaign "watch the election" party in Paris, with a blogging center, but I didn't go there because it was opening at midnight and I couldn't leave the blog to go there.
I was watching CNN at the same time (only American TV I can have here, CNN Europe), and at the party I would not have been sure to be able to hear well the TV, and I didn't want to be in a atmosphere of people wanting a result too early and who may have been deceived later.

Will there not be a public party with not invitation, no ticket, needed somewhere near the White House ???

Yes there will be various parties official and non-official in town for the inauguration. I heard that there are about 240,000 tickets being distributed. It doesn't seem like we will get any of those.
It may be a good idea to organize our own Obama family big party! We will then make it so hip here that everyone would want to come with us. We can find a way to collect some money to finance that party (special blogger T-shirts, etc ...). We have about two months to get this in place. I think our friends in the DC area (Sarah and others) may be able to help us kick this off.
We just got a president elected so we should be able to pool this one off too.

Hi Helen,
I'm very happy. Last night was so overwhelming, I couldn't stop crying. My daughter said Baracks's election was all the talk at her highschool today. What a great day it is for America and the rest of the world.
It was a superb speech he made, his family looked so beautiful and he seemed so peaceful and calm.
At work today we were wishing each other "Happy Obama Day"

We didn't vote for a ticket with Sarah Palin on it because she does not represent women; she is a female misogynist. She is not my ideal of a mother or a role model--indeed, she sets us back a good 60 years. Shared anatomy is not grounds for political support.
I voted for Barack Obama and Joe Biden because they were the better candidates. They represent my ideals, as a woman and an American: hope, prosperity, equality, and positive change.

Electing Obama is only the start. Next is the hard work to enact the necessary changes, like restoring government integrity, getting the economy going again, bringing our troops back, etc.
I hope the campaign keeps the website as a community and an organizational tool so we can transition along with the administration into the ground force that helps Obama push through his legislation and other initiatives.

I had almost no sleep as well and I've been so happy today. The sky was a bit brighter, the pace of live a little slower, the birds singing a bit louder.

Last night was unforgettable. I haven't seen people this elated and at peace, ever. And it's carried over to today, even more so.
I supported Hillary in the primaries, and I still think she's an amazing person and politician, but right now I'm just so happy this election worked out for the Democrats, period. It worked out for the whole world, in fact. I was nervous, afraid the Republicans would steal it away again somehow, or turn this into a protracted nightmare again. But this victory is for Obama, but mostly for democracy at its core; we can believe again. We can start to trust again.
Now let's get to work. I'm all in.

Speaking of getting to work...One of the things I love most about our new president is his call to service. In fact, I am hoping that this very website will be transformed into a tool for service. Perhaps it could be called something like www.yeswecan.gov Ideally, it would be a place that would give Senator Obama's army of volunteers an opportunity to communicate with each other about needs in their neighborhoods; get suggestions about how to address those needs; get direction directly from him about the broad goals he wants us to focus for our country and ways to get involved. Maybe he could even invite every family in America to set up a personal page complete with a dashboard where they could log in and keep track of their volunteer efforts and civic-minded actions: 2 points each time for taking materials to the recycling center, 100 points for buying a hybrid car, 10 points for installing solar lighting fixtures etc.
Yes, Senator Obama encourages us all to take initiative on our own, but getting broad-stroke direction from him, along with website tools and an online record-keeping ability to track our efforts would be really useful and motivating to our citizenry. In addition, we would want him to be able to take credit for our efforts. Measuring effort and tallying numbers has been a critical part of the effectiveness of this campaign in motivating volunteers. Imagine if at the end of a year Senator Obama could point to the tallies on www.yeswecan.gov website and report that American citizens recorded x number of hours doing community service...recycled x number of pounds of what would otherwise be trash...reduced driving by x number of miles through coordinated carpooling, etc. Talk about change we can believe in!! The proof would be in the numbers.

Grace, I believe the site is staying. the Democrats HQ in Dallas is going to be permanent. Progression.
Points for good deeds? How about 100 for adopting a shelter dog, 200 if it is over 40 lbs, and 300 if it is over 40 lbs and black? Maybe a gold star if it is a pit or lab mix?
Our first task, that we have been called to do, albeit subtly: unite. Be kind to everyone who is afraid or disappointed or angry. Reassure, assuage, relieve. We can do it! Many of us have been doing it for a long time, but now more are ready to listen.
Our second task (in my opinion) drive more slowly. Not change the legal limits, just drive within them when we can. Say 5mph under. For America, for the planet, for safety.
And my own third task? Recycle. It is easier in some places than others. Some cities help, some don't. I volunteer with a non-profit horse rescue that collects cans. Now many of my friends collect cans at work or home and bring me bags full. Recycling is sometimes easier with a cause. Pick a cause....

I have an idea for economic solution. It's a total change and would require a team of people to really sift it out for glitches, etc. It is off the beaten path and has no involvement with taxes added or cut in any way. It could be the most stunning economic concept ever created solving cash flow for an entire country and ultimately the world if desired. It combines the "impression" of socialism except not mandated and open entrepreneurism so it remains intact. One provides for the other to work more smoothly.
Anyway, it's simple but not easy if you know what I mean. We need a team of committed people open minded enough to figure it out and break it down to its simplest form.

Did you see how each of our dashboards on our MyBO homepage gave us points for all of our activities? 3 points per phone call, 15 points for events, etc. etc. It was a was to measure our efforts and keep reinforcing them during the campaign. I think a similar tools could be used for us citizens to meet whatever goals Barack establishes during his administration.

I would love to see this site continue and be used to help others. For instance, maybe we could be called to service similar to what Barack did as a community organizer, or outreach of some kind - maybe be his ears on the ground. While canvassng for Barack, I met so many living in very low income areas. They were so grateful that we cared enough to help their vote count -- that they mattered. Helping with this campaign has made me a better person.

1. I agree that this website, or a similar one, can and should be used by President Obama for a grassroots movement. There can be great ideas, suggestions for issues like Fiscal Deficit, Energy etc. It can also help overseas Americans like me be involved. :)
2. Next, the transition team has been announced. I'm eager to hear who's in the next cabinet. What role will Hillary play? She has graciously thrown her efforts behind this elections, and I'm really grateful for it. Will President Obama use his extra money to help pay off her campaign debt? Can he?
3. Can President Obama also announce what he'll do with the extra money? This is very important first-step to reinforce him as the change and transparency President. Not good for news channels like Fox etc to keep posting negative questions during his term. There are many crazy people out there.
Finally, just like to say... I AM SO HAPPY! RELIEVED AND HAPPY!

I too would love to see a call to action for broader and larger issues (education and health care) but for now, my modest contribution is to walk out my front door and pick up the trash in the neighbor.
it pays off because my neighbor shines!
i'm very very proud of America tonight -- very proud and thankful. the days ahead are going to be very difficult and we have to remember this moment when the difficulties seem overwhelming.

I admit to being one of those who was starting to give up hope on America. I still remember in 2000 and in 2004 the giant swaths of red covering the majority of the country and kept thinking... how can i stay here? How can I relate to all of these people who not only think differently than I do, but actively seek to limit my rights as a citizen of this country? And now this.... I am moved beyond measure. I am motivated beyond measure. I am in love with my country and all of those scared red staters out there, because they are my fellow Americans... can you believe that? I am moved to reclaim my flag!
I truly believe this is a once in a generation chance to make a true difference, to stand up with your friends and neighbors and help this country regain its beauty... not in wealth, not in power, but in relationships, in friendliness and tolerance, in true democracy. President-Elect Obama is my President and I am so excited. I too hope he has a directive for all of the people out there who want to work - to come together and heal this country. I think your idea for yeswecan.gov is right on track!

Grace, I like your idea and my impression is that this is somewhat going to happen, and will be directed somehow from the campaign or cabinet or whatever.
One of the many beautiful results from this campaign is that we have a nation, a world, truly ENGAGED again. Together. And in a whole new way. So I'm sure President-elect Obama (I LOVE THE SOUND OF THAT) will take full advantage of this sincere energy that we all have, and keep the momentum going.
I guess you could say the Universe SHIFTED yesterday. We all felt it, the world is feeling it. This moment in time is like nothing I've ever seen before, it's so great.

As a New York City tenant attorney (for demographic purposes, white male, 43 years old, registered independent), whose law firm engages in the battle for safe and affordable housing in NYC every day, I have an enormous, and often unsatisfied, need for justice and fairness.
After seeing Barack Obama speak in 2004 and reading The Audacity of Hope, I told my wife when he announced his candidacy: 'this man is very special - he's going to be our first black president' I just knew it. I gave what I could to the campaign from primaries onward, engaged in the blogs wars, talked to friends and family and, although not being a very practiced Catholic, prayed for God to help you (and us).
Being one who reads just about every daily news story worldwide, the last eight years have left me in a depressed state as to our society and country. The American Dream had, to me, withered, and we had become much like our enemies, and engaged in conduct that we, as a country, have despised. Today, I remembered a quote from my high school years, "Its always darkest before the dawn". Boy, was it dark.
Last night, my faith in my country was restored.
That Americans have transcended race and elected a truly inspirational leader some 44 years after establishing and protecting the right to vote for people of color - on a national level - brought me great pride in my country and tears of joy I will never forget. When my wife woke my 7 year old daughter to witness history, I told her that the America we were leaving her was now a better place.
A great beam of justice now shines across the world - read the comments worldwide, everyone feels it. You, Barack Obama, have fought a relentless battle to prove the greatness of our country, by uniting people under principles and issues that we all share, regardless of our races, nationalities or creeds. By your unyielding strength, you proved we could do it. Thank you.

The bible talks about the number 8 being a number that represents a new beginning and I want everyone to realize that Obama is heaven sent. It was not merely because of his knowledge, his race, or his passion but because God had a plan...God said he would not leave his people...he said generations would feel his wrath but he would restore his people....Obama has come to not only help us as a nation...but to do the work of God and I believe with all of my heart that he will. Obama has opened doors that some may not want open, but too bad because they are open and instead of becoming more hostile towards other races...it is time to unite and realize that OBAMA is neither black or white, he is both and a future president that would be just as worthy if he were neither. The same black people that many gay liberal Obama volunteers had worked so hard to turn out ended up ruining their marriages. It is almost as though black people felt a perverse pleasure in seeing gay people shed tears of sorrow while they themselves were shedding tears of joy.
I wonder if they would have voted for the amendment if it had defined marriage as being between a non-black man and a non-black woman.

Your post tells me you don't understand certain things about voting. Although I'm too busy to walk you through this because this Latina is too busy being happy. I am sorry for your anger though. I have family member, who are gay, and are as elated over Obama's win and how historic this moment in time is. Sure they are very disappointed as well over proposition 8 but know they must continue to fight for what is just.

There was NO DOUBT for my daughter and I here in Eastern Canada. I know I'm not American but I felt like one yesterday. My daughter is Jamaican and Irish and not until the news about Obama's life being threatened did she realize how wide spread hate is. She didnt want to go to school that day. When I told her that Obama is President she sat in her chair and cried. It's not that the majority voted in hope it's that they voted in confindence. It's a great great sign that we are moving ahead. That we perhaps already have and I'm so glad to be living in this time. To be a witness of change. Congratulations to America!

Hi Everyone,
This is the closest- I've been and it's the day after! But what a day after it has been. It's great to see the Newspaper front pages - as I've traveled to the east coast- I've looked at the newspapers in small town America - they are great to see. many with the front page as Obama only!!! Here in DC - most of the papers are gone- everyone wanted a souvenir copy!
Can't wait to get back to Indy - to see "Indiana goes to Obama!!!"

What a joyous time for America!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it, it is a miracle :) The world is celebrating with us, it is so uplifting and inspiring to see the world love our nominated Prez, how cool is that!!!!! Jumping for joy :) I am thrilled we won, it was the most exciting election I have seen and been a part of. it was energizing!
Thanks to every supporter who called, knocked on doors, talked to family and friends and encouraged them to vote for Barack.
I have so much more faith in America now, I did not know if we could pull it off but we did. Thank you America, it was a wonderful journey!! Now the best is yet to come, America gets back on track with Barack. I love it!!
Thank you Barack for being there for all of us, we will be there for you too! Go team America :)
I hope we can still chat somewhere, would really miss stopping by to see all these great supporters.

I'll be honest, it's a little hard to write today. I suspect a lot of you may be feeling the same complex set of emotions at the end of a political season so seismic that most of us will remember it as long as we live. We will tell our children and grandchildren what we saw and felt.
There are a million post-mortems in the data to discuss, and we will love bringing that to you. But it's a day of happy and exhausted stupor, and of personal post-mortems. Brett and I didn't leave Grant Park until past 2 am……. we passed out, woke up dazed, and stumbled to a coffee shop. 14,211 miles is a lot of driving, and our bodies crave regular beds.
We suspect we're not alone. Right now, organizers, full-time volunteers, campaign staff, and everyone else who gave single-minded effort toward November 4 are waking up and saying to themselves and each other, "what do I do with myself?" Their cars are messes, their rooms disaster zones, and they've been cut off from friends and family for God knows how long.
This was by far the longest and biggest election season in US history, and there is so much left to process. The elation that Democrats feel is mixed with the hangover of carrying so much emotional electricity in the body for so long. Its discharge is necessarily going to leave an exhaustion behind.
We feel it too. There will be moments in the coming days, randomly standing in line at the grocery store, driving down the street in contemplation, the sight of a door you knocked, catching a certain song, a glimpse of Chuck Todd, hearing someone tell a story... where these emotions will just come bursting through, the enormity of it all. ………&helli p;………&hel lip; How many things had to go right. How many people had to want it so badly, ,,,,,,,,,,,,, David Plouffe and cohorts engineered allowed all that effort to be channeled into the right places …….
More than anything else, this experience was shared. I think I can safely speak for Nate and Brett when I say we loved sharing this year with you, our readers. I'm here, Walt. The phone keeps ringing with people about Obama. they know I am all happy. My Mom came by for a little while and we listened to NPR and cried off and on.
I've been oddly blessed to be unemployed for part of this election. I have done odd jobs and sold stuff on eBay to get by, and I have had time to campaign like never before.
Somewhere out there, someone needs my help 40 hours a week, and when I find that, I won't be blogging as much. However, I just today told 2 people to come here for fun and inspiration.

Ah-so nice to be around the LOVE. I work with a group of Republicans and it wasn't pretty today. There were tears, talk about moving to Canada(LOL!) and one lady even claimed Barack would turn into Hugo Chavez and we'd become like Venezuela. I generally let it slide because that was me 4 years ago. However when they told me that the USA will decline-I remarked that we've already been there for 7 years.
I bought the WashPost with the lovely photo of the next First Family and am saving that along with my car magnets and yard sign for posterity.
Since I'm off 1/20/09, I'll be down at the Mall witnessing history! Can't wait!
I read in the Post that Obama's new transitional website is going live soon at www.change.gov.
I'm feeling great tonight even with all the challenges that lie ahead.

I agree about getting to work. I think many of us still want to be a part of something bigger!

According to Obama we need to sacrifice and pitch in so we can get things done. I think many of us are willing to do the work, we just need direction.

As soon as that projection came across the screen showing Obama as the new president-elect, I was like 'oh my god, we did it.' It was an awesome sight seeing Obama's smile right next to 'president-elect'.

I had the same question and did some searching around on googleand all I could find were the primary result remember them?!!? Haha. Anyway eventually I went on I site I used for polls and found this guy has been updating what has been going on there. Apparently he is the "unoffical winner" of North Carolina and wont be official till next month.

I am so very happy that he won. I am praying that the secret service keeps him safe. History shows us that leaders like Barack are targets for lunatics. We need him in the White House and I am afraid that if anything happens to him the changes that only he can bring about will not get done. Nothing against Joe Biden, I think he will be a capable president, however, he does not have the charisma that Barack has. So, secret service, please do your job VERY WELL. I want this man as president now and I want him re-elected 4 years from now. I believe it is going to take at least 2 terms to fix the mess that Bush and his cronies have put this country in. Congratulations!! It truly was an historic event and not something I thought I would see in my life time.

Looong time lurker, first time poster. I didn't want to jinx it by posting before he won, but he did it, so now it's safe I guess ... heheh.
I think Barack is an extraordinary individual. I had never bothered to caucus for anyone in my home state of Washington, but he inspired me to do so. When it was essentially tied between him and Clinton after Super Tuesday I felt I had to make my voice heard on who I wanted to carry the flag for the Democratic party in this election. That weekend in early February with the help of Nebraska and Louisiana kick started a tremendous month that basically won the nomination for him.
I had never given money to a campaign, but he inspired me to do that for the first time as well.
My poll addiction reached a new level these last several months thanks to him, and I decided to take today off so I could rewatch the results coming in and once again celebrate the amazing victory that he won.
One of the really cool things that I realized was that it was my home state that put him over the top. With California he was at 262 Oregon by itself was not enough to get to 270(only 7), nor was Hawaii by itself enough(with 4). It was Washington's 11 electoral votes that put him over the top getting him to 273 and winning him the presidency. California alone got Clinton past 270 in '92, and '96, but Obama needed a little bit more help from Washington to get there. Your welcome Barack ;^")*
I have so many other thoughts, but basically I want to thank everyone who went beyond the call of duty in order to bring this home. The volunteers, the canvassers, the callers, who more than myself or anyone else really earned this victory for America and the world. Thank you Obama diehards. We are in your debt.

As an Oregonian, I have felt for once, we actually mattered in the elcetion process. We mattered to Obama in the Primaries. It was such a wonderful feeling to know that the east was actually looking to the west for the answer to who "?"
I am probably one of 5 billion around the world, that actually missed all the fun, manning the County Democratic Office, while the election was called and everything else. All the while those who were running for office in my county/city were already at the "party." I was by myself in their office with no way to lock up and leave! It was a long couple of hours, with no TV no internet, no human, nothing. The honor of being trusted by the area organizer to "hold down the fort" while he stayed at the elections office to be a "watcher" I guess was greater than missing everything.
I did finally arrive at the Pizza place, 1 minute b/f the acceptance speech, I did not recognize ANYONE, except one young man, him and I had been true volunteer junkies. We stood there and watched the TV, cheered, cried, you know . . . there was no Pizza, there was no one I knew, I just left and drove quietly home in the rain.
stay with me . . . this is NOT a complaint . . . When I arrived home, I managed to get into comfy clothes, sit on my sofa, turn on the TV, then . . . my son's school bus is honking, . . . he is sleeping, I only have a few minutes to run to my daughter's to start watching my grandson, , , well, son stayed home, grandson came here, and the rest of my day, pretty much nothing, and nothing is just what I needed.
NOW, after that long, long, story, I just wanted to know how were you able to watch the whole night's media reporting of the election? If you could tell me, I would love to be able to do it too. I already know the outcome, but watching how it happened would be gratifying to me.

Well I DVRed NBC's 7 hours of election coverage and rewatched a good chumk of it today. Last night at 6 pm local time I went to a friends house after work and ate dinner while watching the results come in on different networks. So in short I wasn't able to watch all of it last night because I got off work a little too late, but I knew I was going to want to see how all the states were called and at what time they happened just for posterity. I think NBC's election coverage is gonna be on my DVR for awhile :D
Two things. First it was Oregon that gave Obama the majority of pledged delegates during the primaries. Oregon DID matter in a big way. So you thank you Oregon!(Also you could technically say that Oregon getting Obama to 269 was enough because even a tie would have won it for him with current make up of the House) ;^")*
Second. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your sacrifices. I'm sorry you missed the states being called. When Ohio was called, that's when I knew it was over, but I am very pleased that you were able to see the new first family and his acceptance speech at least.
I'm hoping that the Obama campaign puts together some kind of election highlights DVD package and sells it here with the proceeds going to his reelection campaign coffers for 2012. I think it would sell very well and give him a good head start on whoever the poor chump the Republicans try to put up against Obama.

Never did I believe I would see a minority as President! Only 20 years ago in my home town people didn't allow black people, hispanic people, and only tolerated Native Americans born and raised there. This county is still corrupt and moved for my families protection; however, I keep the other people that can't leave in my prayers. Faith!
It is good to be a witness of what all the hard work you have done, all the dreams that you have achieved, has paid off for you! Unfortunately, this is not every hard working persons story as I KNOW this is true. Hard work, no sleep, and the need for education was the story of my life, at the cost of family values, which had to be set aside, and my health....still today, threats of losing our home, heat, electric, and after a call this morning, losing our food, I still have faith and will continue to work hard!

When have we seen Americans take to the streets over a political event? People flooded to the White House and city streets last nite to cheer. Americans only head to the streets for SuperBowl - this is unheard of. When have we seen people come by the droves willing to stand in line for hours just to vote? That only happens in foreign countries. The only time I remember seeing something this big was when communism was dismantled and people celebrated their new found freedom by taking to the streets! We've witnessed history.
I'm proud to say my own kids and friends charged capitol hill in Madison, WI last nite cheering. I screamed and cheered at our own party here in Milwaukee. I'm proud that I was a part of this!

My beautiful mutt is from the Chicago pound. It makes for a fantastic pedigree! Hope that's where they get it--although any pound or shelter will be fantastic. I've gotten 4 dogs from pounds, and one from a breeder. I love(d) them all, but the pound dogs truly BaRack!

I've heard (here!) that due to allergies that the dog needs to be one that is less likely to cause allergic reactions. Kind of hard to look for specific dog breeds at a pound unless a call goes out across the US to every pound for that specific breed.

Would be great to show some love to rescue groups who deal with the horrible puppy mills in many of our states. I for one am so indebted to Oprah for putting some heat on these despicable "millers" Have 2 Cairn terriers saved from horrendous lives thanks to dedicated rescue people who are selfless warriors--just like our Obama Nation.

Dear PRESIDENT Obama, I am a 28 year old male expecting my first child this summer. I have been so impressed by your leadership throughout your 21 month road to the White House. When I found out I was going to be a father just one month ago I became even more in-tuned with the presidential campaign. I have read your books and followed your speeches and policies. I cannot tell you how proud I am that you will be my President. You are a beacon of light for this country not only because of who you are but because of how you inspire citizens like myself. I have so much hope and confidence in the future of this nation and the future of my son or daughter. Thank you for your unyielding leadership and belief in your country.
I wept like a baby last night watching your victory speech. It is a great new day for America. What I saw on my television last night was a symbol that fear mongering and hateful racism is now the minority in this country, not race itself. Chills ran through my body as I came to a realizaton that the issues of the day are not what CHANGE is going to be for this country. Instead real wholesome CHANGE is going to originate from the PEOPLE of this country. Mr. President thank you for being merely the instrument of opportunity which we can begin to CHANGE our society and re-establish peace and prosperity in this great country. Thank you again and don't forget that people like myself are counting on your leadership in the years to come.

YES!!! I an still getting used to the reality of it all. Sometimes I am just overcome with emotion that it actually happened. The rest of the time I am happy and at peace as the rest has expressed. Life is good, just enjoy the world hug and love and we getting, it is amazing and so healing. It is what peace feels like and it is so good!!!!

I am a 41 year old white women and have been totally committed to your campaign. I have three young children and a husband who is once again out of work. I could see in you from the start something great. As I heard you win state after state and then announced the winner at 11:00p.m. last night, I felt all my emotions that I have been bottling up release in tears of joy. I believe in you and feel that you will do your best to get this country back on its feet and that we will be a better nation having elected you. You are a great and inspiring man who has inspired me to believe that things will be ok and that my husband will not always be without a job. Yes, things are very tuff for us right now but somehow knowing that you will be in the White House fighting for us makes it a little easier to handle.

LAst nite I hosted an election watch party in St Paul. To my relief, my friends managed to distract me, which helped to allay my apprehension. But...when Fox News called it first! It was an astounding moment and I realized that all our hard work had paid off. You guys are amazing. I know that folks have been posting stuff like this all day, but it never hurts to hear that one is appreciated. Now, on to the next phase. We have agency and we are ready to report for duty, OBB.

After I got off of work I tried to go get a copy of the morning newspaper in my area, but was disappointed to find out it is all sold out.

Today in eighth grade, my students and I reread President-elect Obama's speech from the South Carolina primaries, focusing on his theme of us actively changing the world instead of waiting for our politicians to do it. So, Monday begins our "Yes we can" food drive and "Change we can believe in" collection basket for our local food pantry-- whose shelves are almost bare.
We will be in good hands with this next generation.

Dear President Obama (wow, that just sounds REALLY nice to say...),
I've only one, albeit somewhat shallow request for the immediate future:
Please give your photographers and cameramen a HUGE bonus. Seriously, they did an AWESOME job documenting the campaign and keeping the YouTube and Flickr accounts nice and fat. And it's not just about quantity, the quality is top-notch.
Better yet, hire these guys on as part of official White House staff. Please keep taking pictures and filming as much as possible from here on. Sure, now that you're president there may be a few more restrictions as far as security is concerned, but the one thing I liked about the campaign was being able to see what was going on under the hood (and I'm certain I'm not the only one who thinks that). I would love to be able to see the process behind the transition and moving into the White House... and, I must confess, I'm especially eager to see your upcoming new puppy!
Given your desire to establish something along the lines of "Google for Government" and you are pretty much in favor of transparency, I hope you consider keeping the cameras rolling! :)

I am new to the Obama site as a member. Although I have supported Barack Obama since receiving an e-mail from Dick Durbin requesting a signature to persuade this rookie Senator to run for the highest office in this great nation(which I gladly gave), and I have walked, and knocked, and called with some of the rest of you, I had not yet joined this website. Mostly, I think, because I felt that I needed to dedicate my time elsewhere. Even though my other commitments (work, family, etc.), remain the same, I strongly believe that NOW is the time for a dedication to the work that truly needs to be done. I am not at all discounting the historic acheivement of the last 24 hours, but President-Elect Obama has called to us. He has called us out of our slumber, out of our sluggishness, out of our SELVES. He asks that we become our brother's keeper, our sister's keeper. He realizes that this massive awakening cannot happen as a solo effort, or even in a politically unilateral manner. We ALL need to do our part. I am a 37-year-old mother of a 1 year old, and I am a health care professional, and I am a Democrat, and I am an American. I am ready to stand, to work, and to dedicate myself to whatever my country needs from me. So here I am, and I hope that if the need arises, I am up to whatever challenge this country demands of me.

I was a child of the sixties and thanks to my mother, was raised without the presence of racial lines. Luckily, she saw early the unfairness and ignorance in that school of thought.
After 911, I was moved to tears. I thought it ironic that because of this unfathomable tragedy, the people of our country were brought together. We weren't people of races, were Americans; working together to find the missing, to comfort the devastated, to aide the injured. People with gave to people without. You're always instilled with pride of country, but it was the first time in my life I remember thinking how INCREDIBLY proud I was. UNTIL LAST NIGHT!
We worked hard together for months; not as people of different races, but as Americans working for a common good. And once again, we proved that, "When oridnary people come together, they can accomplish extra-ordinary things"! In Barack Obama we have a man who's burning desire inside is to make life better for Americans. To try and right some of the wrongs. God knows, that kind of person doesn't come around often, and AMERICA GOT IT! We took John McCain's "That One", and turned it into America's "The Right One"! My how far the attitudes of this country have come!
I am again, and my guess is will continue to be for while, moved to tears. NEVER have I been prouder of this country! NEVER have I been prouder of my President and First Family!

To me Obama's victory was an experience immersed with love and compassion by the people that led him to victory. I joined this campaign on that cold December day, when he declared his candidacy for President.
From that moment on, I worked with Americans from Iowa to South Carolina...from my little apartment in NYC. At times, I saw photographs of familiar names. But I did not know who these people were. What I did know what that they wanted something better for themselves, for us and for the rest of the world. And that bond inspired me to join this revolution.
The night Obama won, my friends from NYC invited me to come out and party. And drink. And celebrate.
But, I did not want to leave my apartment, because I wanted to celebrate it with that group of people I shared that special bond with. A bond that grew from that December day through the ups and downs till this day of victory.
I stayed home, blogged, texted
and had the time of my life
As I spent it with faces...I did not know...but I loved.

I want to thank Hillary Clinton for campaigning tirelessly for Barack over the past two months. I was very upset with her during the primaries and now it seems like it was 50 years ago.
Hillary stepped up big time to for Barack and played a huge role in his victories in Florida, Pennsylania, Ohio and other states. She could have sat on the sidelines or even made things more difficult for Barack, but she didn't. She toured the country and fought as hard for Barack as she did for herself. Hillary deserves a lot of credit and respect.

Even I, will say she deserves credit, but I am afraid I have watched this woman for too long to believe that she did it for Barack Obama.
Maybe the potential of Sarah Palin being on a winning ticket this time around rather than her was too much for her to bear.
Maybe she is eyeing a cabinet position.
Or maybe she has her eye on the New York Governor's mansion and daren't lose the goodwill of the party.
Or maybe she simply needs the continued goodwill of the party, now no longer under Clinton control, just to maintain her senate position.
Whatever her reasons, she may have helped; and I will give her credit for that.
Sorry!! But her record leads me to believe that she is always self-serving.
Those who have read my posts for all these months know that I am no fan of Hillary Clinton, so for me to give her credit is quite something.

For me, now BO is there, I can admit there were two times I thought she was seriously going to get the nomination.
One was when she said she was proud to be running against BO and they had a nice moment. The other when the New Yorker had that picture by the artist on it's cover. HRC became a politician the next day and killed America's perception of her and the other is where we dug our heels in and seriously fought back because we knew the truth. After that, smear was no longer a concern.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee who alienated his party with his high-profile support of Republican John McCain, pledged on Wednesday to put partisan considerations aside and work with President-elect Barack Obama.
During a prime-time address at the Republican National Convention, the Connecticut lawmaker had rapped Obama as an untested candidate beholden to Democratic interest groups.
But a day after Tuesday's election, Lieberman, a fixture beside McCain on the campaign trail, congratulated Obama for his "historic and impressive victory.
"Now that the election is over, it is time to put partisan considerations aside and come together as a nation to solve the difficult challenges we face and make our blessed land stronger and safer," Lieberman said in a written statement. "I pledge to work with President-elect Obama and his incoming administration in their efforts to reinvigorate our economy and keep our nation secure and free."
Lieberman, who was Al Gore's running mate in 2000, was re-elected to the Senate from Connecticut in 2006 as an independent after losing his state's Democratic primary and remains a registered Democrat. He caucuses with Senate Democrats.
But many Democrats want to strip him of his Homeland Security Committee chairmanship and kick him out of the party caucus, or both, because he endorsed his close friend McCain over Obama. Much depends on how badly Democrats need Lieberman to reach the 60-vote threshold required to block Republican filibusters.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said he plans to meet with Lieberman later this week to discuss the situation.
In the past, Democrats tolerated Lieberman's political straddling because he held their slim political majority in his hands. Now that Democrats have strengthened their hold on the Senate, there could be added pressure to punish Lieberman.
Lieberman befriended Obama and was a mentor to the Illinois senator when he arrived on Capitol Hill three years ago.
Obama returned the favor, backing Lieberman in the 2006 Democratic Senate primary in Connecticut.

I am so proud right now and have peace in my heart. I feel Barack has all Americans best interests in mind in everything he does. It is so wonderful to see this country unite in so many ways. I am sad that his mother and grandmother didnt get to see this amazing accomplishment in his life! I know we have a long road ahead and know we as Americans can make anything possible. I was happy to see Mr. Obama speak in Tampa & Sarasota FL. there was a overwhelming feeling of euphoria when he was speaking and I felt he was talking right to me. I am glad to have a man from humble beginnings to extraordinary accomplishments be our new commander & chief.
All the philosophical talks with friends and volunteering have paid off. Thank you for coming back to me, and shaking my hand in Sarasota. I know you will make a difference in so many peoples lives. It is our time to be united and for equality to be restored......I could go on forever. I am just so proud and at peace after so many hardships and injustice in my life. Thank you so much for teaching this country that you can move forward by being a kind, humble, intelligent, and peaceful person.

When I woke up this morning the first thing I did was get up and put on the tv just to make sure it was all real. Walked a little taller today. It was a beautiful day. Sunny and warm with the trees gleaming in color. We have a real president! We can be proud Americans came thru for Obama. I still find myself holding my breath. We are just tickled pleased and frankly just EXHALING. We are your ObamaNation and Fired Up and Ready to Go.
I just want to say from the bottom of my heart and soul and mind that I will now sleep better knowing you are at the helm. The whole wide world feels the same way and I am ready to embrace the offering and the challenges as a world we must deliver good on.
Thank you Barack...er, I mean Mr. President and thank you to First Lady Michelle and your lovely "first" daughters for your courage and fortitude. But most especially thank you for running a dignified and clean campaign. Even if you had us there for a few times with our dukes up for you...!
Please rest up with your lovely family before you take on the early session of full tilt business, because I know I need it as we all sure do. Take a moment and send your grandmother off. I suspect she made sure election night went as smoothly as it did. We are all here ready to continue our mission.

Oh, it was our pleasure. ;) Many people over here are still hardened by the Bush years, and many of them don't want to admit, how much interdepence there is between the old and the new world—culturally, politically, financially, religiously, common history, values, friendship. Last night's election means a lot to us, and a lot to me, but the real meaning was shown in other places of the world, by the reactions of the people not only in Kenya, which is a really beautiful country, but especially in Indonesia. There are so many places in the world with less hope, less opportunity, less prosperity, and if Barack manages to make their life just a little better, it will mean much more than my personal or my nation's well-being, because they are the ones who often have to suffer from our wrongdoings. Seeing those many children in Barack's former Indonesian school with their makeshift election posters, dressed in their best clothes, with joy and hope in their faces, cheering for the President elect… THAT was what drove tears in my eyes last night. If Barack can fulfill just a little bit of their hopes, the world will already be a better place. But judging from all the reactions, the world probably already IS a better place since last night. I really hope the next eight—yes: EIGHT!—years will do justice. Let's get to work. Let's continue to fight… with a smile. And a hug… from Germany! —Anay

Obama give us all HOPE! We germans would vote Obama with over 80%, I think no german politician will ever get such a high percentage :D We believe in HIM and we believe in YOU (the american people)! Germany was also celebrating his victory (even though it was 6 am :D), everybody on the streets is talking about him! Erverone I met today was talking about him, WE ARE SO GLAD!!! And my Mum (she is 73) is a real Obama fan, she always say he reminds here of JFK. Best wishes from Germany!

I especially like your thoughts about respecting the planet. People tend to get so agitated over day-to-day business like Iran, Russia, the ever-returning financial crises, but so often we forget about the biggest challenge ever, namely global warming and environmental destruction. If we don't find solutions there, whether it's prevention or effects attenuation, it won't matter, what other "crises" there are in the world. This is actually my biggest hope for Barack, and I hope he's willing to steer the US around, invest big time and lead the world into a green future. Because without you it's not going to work.

This is insensitive and incorrect.
Anyway, I have a simple solution. ALL couples should get civil unions. Then, if someone wants to do a religious ceremony on top of that, that would be between them and their church.
You are wrong when you say most people do not believe in gay marriage. Have you polled everyone in the world? You have no idea what legal rights they have or don't have. Maybe someday you will have a gay child or sibling, then maybe you will understand.

God does care. Homosexuality is in the bible as an abomination. Sodom was destroyed because of homosexuality. God would have given Adam and man if he did not care.
