Not only have the 26 quilters made this possible...but the nearly 350 individual entries in the drawing made our donation to Barack possible! I have watched quilters quilt in the past (decades ago now, my Grammy was a "quilter extraordinaire")-- and I understand what organization it must have taken for you to achieve this beautiful quilt across state lines. Kudos to all of you for this great achievement!

This quilt is an example of what we can accomplish when we work together-- not even vast distances are a barrier anymore!

Gallup Daily: Obama Lead Among Likely Voters 5 to 7 Points

Now up 50% to 45% in traditional model

PRINCETON, NJ -- Barack Obama holds a statistically significant lead over John McCain in both Gallup likely voter models, according to Oct. 27-29 Gallup Poll Daily tracking. In the traditional model, which defines likely voters based on current voting intention and past voting behavior, Obama holds a 50% to 45% lead. In the expanded model, in which only current voting intentions are considered, his lead is 51% to 44%.

As in any election, the final outcome, in large part, hinges on who turns out to vote and who does not. If all registered voters participated, Obama would probably win comfortably. He leads McCain by 50% to 42% in the latest estimate of registered voter preferences, and has averaged a nine percentage point lead since Oct. 1. Both likely voter models currently show a slightly closer race than is evident in the registered voter estimate. Obama has never trailed in either likely voter model since Gallup began tracking likely voter preferences in early October, averaging a four-point lead using the traditional model and an eight-point lead using the expanded model.

Just five days remain until Election Day, and McCain and the Republicans are campaigning hard in key states to try and change Obama's lead. Late comebacks are rare, but have occurred, including Harry Truman in 1948 and Ronald Reagan in 1980. -- Jeff Jones

GDP numbers released this AM showed the economy shrank by 0.3% during July-Sept. quarter:

However, since the experts predicted a -0.5 growth, the stock market initially rallied, because it was slightly less worse than anticipated.

The economy expanded by 2.6% in the preceding quarter. When there are 2 successive negative growth quarters, that officially defines a recession.

Since Oct-Dec. is sure to be worse, Obama can now, during the next 4 days, say that we are in a recession.

I hope, I pray and wish all the best for all Americans, and the Obama supporters in particular, in making the right Obama choice for your future on November 4.

My bond with the U.S. has been forged by the life and the ultimate sacrifice of a young WWII U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant from Pennsylvania, who found his final resting place at an American Cemetery here in the Netherlands. I pledged to look after him and his grave for the rest of my life. Thanks to him and many other young U.S. soldiers we, here in Europe, but also you in the U.S. can live our lives like we do in a free and democratic society. A post WWII free, western democracy inspired by the values of the American Constitution, as advocated by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert H. Jackson in his works and preparations for the Nuremberg Trials in 1945. Later in 1948 these same values were highly inspirational to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (in December this year celebrating it's 60th anniversary). For many years the U.S. has always been a true leader by example, inspiring many other parts of the world. As I see it Barack Obama stands for these same inpiring values, no doctrines or dogmas, to make the U.S. and the world a better place to live in. A better place where every individual has his or her own responsibility to work on their own democracy with the help of a government which cares for all it's citizens, and all citizens care for their fellow citizen.
So, from the Netherlands a heartfelt "thumbs up" for all Americans, whether they are 'blue' or 'red', black or white, old or young, rich or poor

Thanks for this! This is truly amazing. The Economist has been more pro-McCain generally over the months and fairly skeptical of Obama. I knew they were coming more and more Obama's way over the past 3-4 weeks because of McCain's performance on the economy!

Hi gang- I know not all of you are religious (and I respect that) but without prayers, I could not have made it through this campaign. I feel moved to offer this prayer at this time, and I hope it will touch some of you out there. By the way, I am not sure if I fall under the category of religious, but I do go to church every Sunday, try to do unto others, and believe there is an entity of love, compassion, peace and understanding that is with us all. Just for the record.

My prayer:

Dearest source of all light and goodness, I humbly pray that the hearts of those who fear and hate will be softened. I ask that you open these hearts and souls to truth, goodness, love and compassion. I ask that you take the fear from their hearts and minds and replace it with trust and well-being. We know that Jesus instructed us to pray for our enemies, and this we do now. We ask that you protect Barack Obama and his family; keep them safe from those who live in hatred and fear. Help those who are angry to feel your love through all of us, and help them to learn to love themselves. We thank you, Lord, for all our blessings, and especially for Barack Obama and his message of hope, truth, love, compassion and strength.

I support Barack Obama because I truely believe in him. I compare him to President Kennedy and think he will be just as good if not a better PRESIDENT FOR OUR COUNTRY! When I look at him I don't see color but I see a man who has integrity,honesty,and a true passion to make a REAL CHANGE FOR OUR COUNTRY!! I also believe that if a MCCAIN becomes president our country is in MAJOR TROUBLE! May GOD be with you BARACK OBAMA........IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE!

Double digit gap

A reliable source tells me that the CBS/New York Times poll due out later today will have Obama up 11 among likely voters, ticking down two points since their poll a week ago, but still a very, very wide margin in the waning days of the contest.

I believing in the power of prayer,have established a world prayer circle, to help us through the last 40 days of this campaign. While I understand,not everyone shares in my belief about prayer, I believe most of us share in the belief, there is a "HIGHER POWER" or a power greater than ourselves. We look to this power for guidance,love,healing,wisdom,h ope,etc.
