McBush and Hil-liar thinks we're dumb or something. Like 30 cents is suppose to make us happy. I still can't believe she's really fighting for it now, after Obama laid down the truth on her. Now she wants to convince people that they are saving a lot of money, I mean how dumb of them. If we have a president that can't come with a real plan than this Gas Tax Holiday, then we'll have real problems instead of "Real Solutions for America". Obama just outsmarted both of them. We need a smart president like him.

Barack Obama ~ The Truth Teller!!!
In simple, honest terms, Barack gave a dynamic, exquisite, and powerful speech to the people in Indiana. May it travel far and wide before May 6.
May We At Last Have A President We Deserve!
Barack Obama is heads above the rest... they don't hold a candle to him. Our country needs for Barack and his family to live in the White House as our First Family.
G~d Bless You and them, Barack! G~d Bless Everyone Reading This... and those who aren't.

Hillary is basically betting that Americans are too stupid to understand the actual logic and truth of the mater. If she says it over and over again, says if forcefully, and says... "hey he doesn't want to give you relief, but I DO".
The Clintons are betting that America will sign onto that message, but the facts are already in and the media keeps covering it...
If we reduce the price of gasoline by 18 cents then more people may be willing to drive longer or go further away for vacation, thus driving up demand for oil, thus increasing the price of gas.
The ONLY way we will reduce the price of gas is to either reduce demand or increase production. Sure we can look into the oil companies for price gauging but we simply need to start driving less, get more fuel efficient cars, inflate tires to max recommendations, carpool, mass transit, etc etc. The price of oil will continue to rise until we get off it as an energy source because even if we reduce our demand, other countries are becoming larger fuel consumers.

The message needs to get out that if she takes this 18 cents away what will happen to our roads and bridges? Wasn't it just last summer that a bridge in St. Paul collapse? Our infra-structure is falling a part and these gas taxes help keep our roads and bridges from falling a part. People NEED to be told this!

A major bridge in Minneapolis collapsed killing over a dozen people and seriously injuring hundreds. I was one of the lucky ones as I had passed over the bridge about 1/2 hour before it went. We have other bridges in serious disrepair as do countless other cities and towns all over the country. It is high time our country begins paying attention to this before we have another tragedy such as the Minneapolis bridge.

May 4th 2008 at 12:17 am EDT
One day recently, a teacher friend of mine told me a story I cannot get out of my mind - it speaks to the very heart of this campaign. One afternoon, she was walking her students out to the buses. A young girl (2nd/3rd grade) saw the teacher's OBAMA 08 pin on her lapel. She looked up at the teacher, pointed to the pin, smiled, and simply said, "YES WE CAN!"
In that moment, the very reason for Obama's campaign was made clear to me. We are calling, donating, speaking to friends, praying and hoping not only for ourselves, but for millions of kids like that little girl. To feel pride in our government again, to admire and trust our leadership ... wow! what a foreign concept these days. People still yearn for leadership that represents us well to the world, tells us the truth and has the courage to work hard everyday to realize the vision he has for our country.
Let's all keep calling, keep donating, keep talking with our friends and supporting each other. YES WE CAN! The end is almost here - hang in there gang. We can do it!!!!
OBAMA 08!!!

I always like to watch the people listening to it and a few of the men were lukewarm in the beginning were on their feet clapping by the end! You can tell there weren't many undecideds that left that rally without a strong and positive impression.

We won Guam by 7 'point's.
We lost NM by a similar percentage points.

This is a win as big as the loss in NM.

What Is Really Going On
What do we, as Obama supporters, have to do now that the media has declared an all out war on Senator Obama's campaign - vowing to smear him 24/7 until November.
1. Shut off the TV. I mean it. We don't need it.
2. Lock into the Obama website and use all the tools provided. We are the first movement of its kind - ever. By that I mean a national internet and on-the-ground community organization tied to the electoral process for the most important position in the world.
This organization is going to be an integral part of governing after the election. It is why super delegates are moving to Senator Obama.
It will be the medium for the two-way fireside chat of the new century. It will supplant the dumbed down so-called white house press conferences in importance.
It will provide true leverage at all local levels when legislation needs to be moved.
It will raise money for its candidates.
It will do local good works.
3. Participate in the voter registration drive. This is the key to winning. We need to register millions of new voters. Most of them don't participate because they hate the divisiveness and feel left out. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to change the dynamic, but only we can do it.
We have already changed the fundraising dynamic and the 'young voters won't vote dynamic'.
We are now going to change the 'most people don't bother to even register dynamic'. (By the way, THAT can't be done either.)
Make sure all new voters lock into the local community organizations. Use the opportunity to do something for your community on behalf of the movement and recruit already established Clinton, McCain or undecided voters to join.
4. Don't blame Clinton or McCain voters. We are all Americans. We value their opinions and we want to show them courtesy and hope that we give them reasons to participate in the efforts that we can agree on. Listen to what they are looking for, we might be surprised. If we can't agree, that's OK. We are not keepers of The One True Way.
5. Have fun - it's easy once you take the remote and go "click".
Here is what is really going on:

Thanks to the generosity of many who donated their valuable frequent flyer miles, we sent 29 out-of-state volunteers to TX / OH, 32 to PA, and another 17 to IN / NC.
This means ***1,950,000 MILES*** have been donated to date -- putting ***78 VOLUNTEERS*** on the ground, helping bring it home for Barack.
Our focus now turns to the next important states.
VOLUNTEERS: If you want to spend a week or more in an upcoming primary state, but can't afford to pay your own way, contact me and I'll try to match you with an airline ticket.
DONORS: It takes 25,000 miles for a ticket. So -- who's got at least 25,000 on the same airline which they'd like to donate toward making sure Barack Obama is our next President?
Step right up -- I'm getting requests almost daily from volunteers who want to help but can't afford the airfare. Donate now, please, so we can get these people where they're most needed. *** WE NEED MORE MILES! *** No miles? Perhaps you can help pay airfare.
Please call me at 714-536-6104 California time. (Don't reply on the blogs; I probably won't see your response.)

A win is a win, though (Hillary herself says that). any kind of win in NC will be awesome, so there is nothing to worry about. There is no "game changer". Obama is just too far ahead.

Thank you Bill Moyers there is a double standard. Something the media and some Americans forget is that older African Americans that Wright age have these memories of being treated unfairly and discriminated against. Memories that they carry with them for years that they never manage to overcome people deal with their memories differently they deal with their anger differently. I had a friend who was the same age as Wright and she had the anger and pain of being treated like a second class citizen she never got over it she went to her grave with that pain. But those of us who are Baracks age and my age grew up in a different time so we dont have that anger and pain we see the hope of progress thats one of the reason its wrong to say that Obama and Wright believe the same thing. They have different experiences and different histories.
The media ought to be ASHAMED of themselves that they didnt approach this Wright story with any kind of depth or complexity. It has become soundbites and caricature without any type of understanding. If you are not going to do something right DONT DO IT. He is Obama's pastor NOT his spiritual advisor.
History will NOT judge us kindly when years from now they look back at this moment in time.

I thought that Bill Moyers was excellent in his comments. He is an honest and fair person. The 2nd segment of his show with Kathleen Jamieson was really informative and explains why the approach that Barack is now taking is soooo perfect. Bill Moyers is in no way typical MSM. I don't think of him as MSM at all. If I misread what you said I apologize perhaps you meant what I just may have repeated.

I just returned from a day trip to Indianapolis to canvass a subdivision and a trailer court to engage Obama voters. About 75 of us came from Springfield, IL to help out there for the day.
Please make calls to Indy. If each of us inspires a few voters - we'll win this thing! I did find a couple who volunteered to give rides to the polls and several STRONG Obama supporters.

Sad for the poor horse.... ROTFLMAO on HRC
From thepage.time.com
YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS UP
Hillary Clinton enthusiastically picked a filly named Eight Belles to win the Kentucky Derby and compared herself to the horse. Eight Belles finished second. The winner was the favorite, Big Brown. Eight Belles collapsed immediately after crossing the finish line, and was euthanized shortly thereafter.

I fail to see the humor of the situation with the horse having to be put down.
I see the irony, but not the humor.

I am a true horse lover, and I live in the city. I have always said that when I rebuild I would rebuild in the country so that I can have 2 acres of land to ride on. Now since I have stated that I need to state that it is ironic that HC compared herself to the horse that had to be put to sleep. I hate to say this but wouldn't it be so strange if HC and her machine had set the race to be fixed so that Eight Belles could have come from behind and win, but instead destiny prevailed with the horse that won. I do not believe in coincidence, but everything happens for a reason. HC machine has fixed many things and they have the power to do what ever they seem fit when they seem fit. But the powers of destiny always prevail. "Don't be fooled, God is not mocked".

"I've lived in Guam for over 5 years now and have a good grasp on local politics.
The Clinton machine have alot of supporters among the political field here. Word on the street even prior to voting was that Hillary would some how win (even though she was not favored to do so).
Obama had a comfortable lead all day and won by only 7 votes in the last count. The result speaks for itself. It pains me to see these rumors coming to light as if casts a shadow over Guam and their political system. I hope this is all cleared up and that it is nothing more than a misunderstanding. That being said, nobody is surprised that the caucus is tainted."

It's a version of a caucus and the 7 votes being reported are exactly that.
There's a recount underway, supported by Obama staffers, as there were hundreds of ballots that were disqualified because they couldn't be read. We stand a good chance of seeing an increase in the lead.

You asked me for a link to the # of people voting in Guam. I got it from one of the blogs earlier this morning. It was a link to a local Guam paper. I cannot find it! I have google searched and searched prior blogs.
I erased my internet history b/c my computer was going oh so slow. Now, I wish I had not.
Now, all I can find is a site that says less than 8,000 voted (from Guam) and I cannot tell for certain if they are talking about the entire island, or just one area. I read 25,000+ and now I cannot find it again -- and now I am concerned that the site might not be a good one (like the one someone sent me to the night of WI that said Senator OBama would lose by 28 points--that was a bad evening and then it was glorious).
I won't say it again -- until I find it again.
I wish I was better at this internet. If I was in a library, I could find the answer in no time at all. I prefer the feel of a book in my hand.
I found something else (trying to find that $%#^ link that is a little scary -- they are saying 500 votes went uncounted for some reason. I do not know why.
With less than 8000 it is still more than 4,521, but my argument is not quite as powerful.
None the less, Guam does vote like a primary and count like a caucus (like New Mexico). I read that at the Democratic Party blog (which link someone also provided on a previous link).
Since I have spent way too long trying to find the other link (and I have been raging at people about this) I think I will slink away and do the work I need to do.
I will find the link and hopefully soon and provide it to you if I can find your name on here.

I doubt that. The folks who brought you the DM Reg poll were in fact DM Reg pollsters. They live here, know the state very well, and have polled IA multiple times, including prior to caucuses. Part of the reason they are the most accurate when polling IA. They wouldn't have nearly the same accuracy in IN. I would think the Indianapolis Star poll would be conducted by their own pollsters, who know their state well and can poll it with more accuracy than some folks from IA.

I don’t know if this is entirely off topic, but I have to get this off my chest.
I live in Baton Rouge, and earlier today I voted for Don Cazayoux, a relatively conservative Democrat, as our next Congressman. Our prior Congressman, Democrat-turned-Republican Richard Baker, resigned earlier this year so that he could take a lucrative lobbyist position. After some 20 years of public service, I almost can’t blame him.
What my beef is with concerns the truly disgusting campaign the Republican candidate, Woody Jenkins, ran here. If you look at his website and you’re from outside the district, you’d think he’s just another good-ole-boy who touts conservative family values. That’s all well and good, in a way, but if you lived in the district you would have been slammed with tons of stunningly appalling negative advertising in your mailbox. Virtually none of this junk mail would have told you why you –should- vote for Jenkins, but why a vote for Cazayoux would be almost a vote for al-Qaida, the Antichrist, etc.
Even worse, you would have been deluged with robocalls – I work at a state agency, by the way- for Jenkins. Of course, the caller ID would be blocked, so you didn’t know who was calling. I have better things to do at work, thank you very much.
This isn’t the forum to go into details, but from all the junk mail I got, let’s put it this way – if this were the 1930’s, I have little doubt that Jenkins would have deemed Social Security a Communist plot, and if this were the 1950’s he would have been a fellow traveler, but with Joe McCarthy.
As of the moment Jenkins is leading by about 7 points. Ye Gads. Can’t people see through this garbage?!?

Sen. CLINTON: If I could just add to what Senator Graham said, because I think it's really
important we underscore this. Senator McCain made the point earlier today, which I agree
with, and that is, it's not so much a question of time when it comes to American military

We don't want to see our young men and women dying and suffering these grievous injuries that so many of them have. We've been in South Korea for 50-plus years. We've been in Europe for 50-plus. We're still in Okinawa with respect to protection there coming out of

From what I've read Oregon looks pretty good for us but, trust me, there's a lot of work to do here in WV with only ten days until the election. I'm in Huntington and we are getting organized but I worry about the rural areas of our state (and most of it is rural). Too many people getting all their news from MSM and way too much of that from Fox. So many think he is muslim and as unfair as it may be here in the bible belt that's a problem. We also only have about a 4% minority population and I'm sad to say racism will be a factor. The southern coal fields are strongly democratic but also controlled by old fashioned political machines. I know Obama wouldn't pay "street money" in Philly well I suspect that same thing will be expected by our machine and I'm sure Hillary will have no problem with their demands. So our hope here is that people get to see and hear the real Obama. When that happens his support always goes way up. I hope the results in NC and IN Tuesday make us a little less important. :)

When I saw Michelle here in FL at a small event in a private home, she said she told the campaign she would not do events on teh weekends because she was the "designated parent" and would always be home with the gilrs for weekends. I'm wondering if she now has to concede to taking the girls WITH her to events on weekends because of the attacks by both the MSM and opponent's campaign? Politics is a large amount of ebb and flow and given that HC is in the race, it means there may even be greater swings. HOWEVER- Barack is still ahead in delegates, is making good gains in the superdelegates and is leading in the popular vote area. If anyone had told you last Christmas that this is where the race would stand, you would have taken it in a heartbeat. I am swearing off network and cable TV until tuesday night for the election results. The focus needs to be on 1. making the calls, 2. donating, 3. voting and 4. getting other Obama supporters to the polls who need the help.
Do the math- It is extremely unlikely the results will go against Barack. I am very confident the Obama national and state teams are very focused. You've not heard of any internal fighting. They knew and know this is one tough fight so hang in there.

Great article and I have to agree it makes great political sense in many ways.
On a personal level I do not care too much for the ticket and would have a hard time voting for it. The tactics that the Clintons have displayed in this campaign have been the politics of personal destruction (to me)and I was truly hoping that the people would express the same disgust with these tactics as I do - we will have to see how the rest of the contests go. Maybe we will have some big wins and won't have to worry about this.
P.S. - I am one of those voters that in Bill Clinton's words 'don't need a president' - I look more toward the character, truthfulness, judgement and wisdom of the person I am voting for as opposed to just strict party issues.

I disagree and almost violently. That undoes all the "new politics" meme for me and the opportunity to finally make a break with the tired old stale politics of this 28 year reactionary era.
Additionally, and this is the biggie, HRC would fall heir to all of our efforts: fundraising, ground-up support, millions of voters, i/e. everyone here dumb enough to hang out here with her the heir apparent.
My much preferred position is to name a VP with BHO's outlook and hope her supporters come home. If they do BHO is President in '08. If they don't BHO will be President in '12 because that will mean McCain will be President until then, at which time 12 years of Bush policies will be really stinking.
I don't believe BHO will lose in '08 with his choice, but I would take the chance for turning the page for the good of the country (and my children and grandchildren).

Hey there, Joy,
I reject and denounce Suulivan's argument, though I often agree with him.
It's riddled with so many holes, like this: "Worse: the demographics seem to be hardening into a difficult dynamic for him. (A) White working-class women — crucial to Democratic marginal states — remain resistant to his charms. (B) Hispanics are also iffier than they should be. Somehow, the Clintons' brutal assault on his brand, (C) aided and abetted by conservative media outlets, such as Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, have managed to dent this unifier a little." {letters added}
This analysis is meaningless with respect to the general, IMO. Are the A group going to flock to McCain, when McCain is opposed to equal pay for women, and has an atrocious record in general on women's rights? Are the B group likely to support McCain, especially with Richardson and other prominent Hispanic leaders campaigning hard on Barack's behalf? And I call BS on that kind of slicing and dicing. I am sure something similar to Al Giordano's article debunking the white vote claims could be done with respect to the Hispanic vote. What does it mean to be "iffier than it should be," anyway?
And lastly, C points to why this is such a stupid tactic for the general. The right is ravenous for HRC's blood. She is the best hope of unifying and galvanizing their party to destroy the Democrats. They won't care if her name comes first or second. And the Republicans who genuinely support Barack would have serious reservations about voting for him if his name was followed by hers. Hell, I'd have serious reservations doing so, and I'm an Independent-turned-Democrat just to support Barack.
Sullivan sells Barack's options so short when he writes of only one other vp possibility, Jim Webb. Please. I know he's a favorite of some here, but he's hardly the most compelling possibility, even just for the narrow reasons Sullivan cites. What of Biden? McCaskill? Lee Hamilton? About 20 other strong Party leaders who would truly complement Barack and give us the administration we so desperately need?
This suggestion is just plain wrong on so many levels for so many reasons, I don't know where to begin. But I'll stop myself here, so I can spend a few minutes with my husband this Saturday night!

Clinton may be hopeful, but Obama rolls on
INDIANAPOLIS: Have Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's chances of winning the Democratic presidential nomination improved as Senator Barack Obama has struggled through his toughest month of this campaign?
After weeks in which her candidacy was seen by many party leaders as a long shot at best, Clinton's advisers argued strenuously on Thursday that the answer was most assuredly yes, that the outlook was turning in her favor in a way that gave her a real chance.
Still, despite a series of trials that have put Obama on the defensive and illustrated the burdens he might carry in a fall campaign, the Obama campaign is rolling along, leaving Clinton with dwindling options.
Obama continues to pick up the support of superdelegates — elected Democrats and party leaders — at a quicker pace than Clinton.
On Thursday, he got a boost from a high-profile defection: Joe Andrew, a former Democratic national chairman appointed by former President Bill Clinton, said he had changed his mind and would back Obama. Even after Clinton's victory in Pennsylvania, Obama has held on to a solid lead in pledged delegates, those selected by the voting in primaries and caucuses.
Although Clinton has cut into Obama's popular vote lead, it would be difficult for her to overtake him without counting the disputed results in Florida and perhaps Michigan.
By and large, the group that matters most at this point — the uncommitted superdelegates, who are likely to hold the balance of power — still seem to view their decision the way the Obama campaign would like them to see it. They suggest that they are more sympathetic to the argument that they should follow the will of the voters as expressed by the delegates amassed by the candidates when the primary season is done rather than following Clinton's admonitions to select the candidate they think would best be able to defeat Senator John McCain and the Republicans in November.
"It's about the numbers, and the numbers are the numbers," said Chris Redfern, the chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party and an uncommitted superdelegate. "It's not about hand-wringing. And Senator Obama has the lead."

None of this is to say that Clinton has run out of string. She has waged a spirited and focused campaign in the past month, a period in which Obama has at times seemed to lose energy.
Several polls signal that Obama's troubles have shaken the confidence in the Democratic electorate, and it is too early to measure fully how much he may have been hurt by a round of incendiary appearances by his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.
A big Clinton victory in Indiana on Tuesday and in West Virginia the next week could, combined with her victories in Pennsylvania and Ohio, give her ammunition to say that Obama would fail to draw blue-collar support against McCain in the fall.
David Plouffe, the manager of Obama's campaign, said that if Clinton won 55 percent of the remaining pledged delegates — an assumption he called "overly generous" — she would still need about two-thirds of the remaining uncommitted superdelegates to reach the 2,025 delegates needed to secure the nomination.
Clinton's advisers did not dispute Plouffe's calculation, in effect acknowledging the enormousness of their task.
Senator Christopher Dodd, the Connecticut Democrat who ran for president and has now endorsed Obama, said that Clinton still had a chance but that it was something of a long shot. "I still don't think the math is there," Dodd said.
Most of what chance Clinton has rests on her ability to convince superdelegates that Obama would be a flawed candidate in the general election. In recent weeks, he has certainly struggled with a series of problems — some of his own making — which has made it easier for her to make that case.
Many superdelegates said they were queasy about Obama and his former pastor, and fearful of how the issue might be used in the fall. Still, they said they were not convinced that that made him a weaker general-election candidate than Clinton, or at least not convinced enough to cast a vote that could be portrayed as overturning the will of Democratic primary voters and blocking the effort by Obama to become the nation's first African-American president.
Andrew, the former national party chairman, said in an interview that Obama's response to his problems with Wright convinced him that Obama was the better choice.

"What's happened here is how he has handled each one of these crises — because you know there are going to be crises — has made him an even stronger candidate," Andrew said.
Obama has also picked up superdelegate support from Democratic members of Congress in relatively conservative districts — despite efforts by Republicans to make Obama a liability for Democrats running in competitive districts, including campaigns for two open seats in the South that are under way.
Representative Baron Hill of Indiana and Representative Ben Chandler of Kentucky endorsed Obama, for example, and both face the likelihood of stiff Republican challenges in the fall.
Beyond the resistance Clinton is facing to the electability argument, there is clear concern among Democrats — some unaligned, some supporting Obama — that the fight is hurting the party and should come to an end soon. Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri, who is supporting Obama, said she saw an increasing anxiousness among superdelegates to bring the nomination fight to a conclusion.
"The delegate math is not going to change significantly," McCaskill said. "She is a formidable candidate, she has passionate support, but I don't see the people who are for Obama wavering one bit."
Clinton advisers acknowledged that the path to the nomination was steadily uphill, and to some extent dependent upon factors outside their control — yet it was a path nonetheless, they said.
First, Clinton must win the Indiana primary as a means of demonstrating to supporters and donors that she is building on momentum after Pennsylvania, they said, and she must run strongly enough in North Carolina to avoid the perception that she did no better than an even split. Then she must win in a state that catches people by surprise, like Oregon or Montana.
The Clinton campaign must also persuade the Democratic National Committee to seat at least some of the delegates she won in the disputed votes in Michigan and Florida. It must also persuade superdelegates to include the popular votes cast in Florida, and maybe in Michigan, in calculating the overall tally.
Without that latter success, it would be all but impossible for her to match Obama in the popular vote total. But that is a tough sell because since neither candidate campaigned in those states after they held their primaries earlier than allowed by the party. Obama's name did not even appear on the Michigan ballot.

One of Clinton's chief strategists, Geoff Garin, said the campaign hoped to end the primary season on June 3 lifted by a series of victories, and by coming close in the pledged delegate totals and the popular vote — though he declined to say what close would be.
"We'll know it when we see it," Garin said.

Jen I read your post.
And I have to agree on what the writer and Plouffe said. We all know that Hillary is trying everything possible to win the nomination even though the math is not possible. She is waiting on things like Wright to happen. But what has not been brought up is her baggage. I think the supers know more about her than we voters do. And I think that does who followed her husband presidency know what happened behind "close doors" than we voters. And they know what the media haven't even reported some of her baggage. I agree that the supers needs to start endorsing now because Hillary will not quit this willingly. She will try to find loopholes and bring chaos to the convention. I like that the article mentioned that 2/3 of superdelegates have to vote for her. This goes to show that we have more delegate and for the supers to overturn the will of the people without any substantial reason will be detrimental. In a positive light, "everything is going good so far."
Great article.

That totally brand new speech he gave today in Indy is by far the best speech he has given since the JJ dinner 5 months ago in Iowa!
It is Brand new, fresh, powerful, and hits all the economic issues, and nonsense that has plaged and distracted the media coverage the last 2 months!
It is not the same one he gave last night at the JJ dinner in NC, but I wish he would have given this one last night!
If you havent watched it yet, take a half Hour and watch it. It will remind you once again why this guy is by far the best candidate I have ever seen in my life!
He should have broke out that speech 6 weeks ago in PA.
He should definitly use it tomorrow night at the JJ dinner in Indy!
It is way better then the tired old speech he gave in NC JJ dinner.
Take a look because it is great! It is classic!

I just love hearing Senator Obama speak. I heard a snippet of this speech today, but am glad to hear all of it.
Today, I called Indiana - a good experience - several truly undecided voters who were willing to engage with me.
One person said they wouldn't vote for Obama because of his religion. I asked him if he didn't like Christians. :) Then I realized he probably thought Obama was a muslim - I had heard people post about running into that still. I am a born-again Christian myself, so I was able to connect.
I referred them to "Dreams of My Father" and I suggested he google "good bye to all that" for Andrew Sullivan's article, which includes a passage from a speech in which Senator Obama describes how he accepted Christ. Here is the link for the Sullivan article - all you diehards probably read it long ago, but if not, it convinced me to support him:
Link
I will post text from this article in my next post. I've now been asked this question twice - there are people there who honestly believe he's a muslim.
I know I connected with the voter and got him to think about voting for Obama, now that he knew he was Christian.
I plan to call my undecideds again on Monday eve.

From "Good Bye to All That: Why Obama Matters" by Andrew Sullivan in The Atlantic:
The best speech Obama has ever given was not his famous 2004 convention address, but a June 2007 speech in Connecticut. In it, he described his religious conversion:
One Sunday, I put on one of the few clean jackets I had, and went over to Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street on the South Side of Chicago. And I heard Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright deliver a sermon called “The Audacity of Hope.” And during the course of that sermon, he introduced me to someone named Jesus Christ. I learned that my sins could be redeemed. I learned that those things I was too weak to accomplish myself, he would accomplish with me if I placed my trust in him. And in time, I came to see faith as more than just a comfort to the weary or a hedge against death, but rather as an active, palpable agent in the world and in my own life.
It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity one day and affirm my Christian faith. It came about as a choice and not an epiphany. I didn’t fall out in church, as folks sometimes do. The questions I had didn’t magically disappear. The skeptical bent of my mind didn’t suddenly vanish. But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side, I felt I heard God’s spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to his will, and dedicated myself to discovering his truth and carrying out his works.

Obama was up 55% to 45% with 63% reporting. If the media thinks she has closed this gap down to a 7 vote difference, less than 1%, that is a sad statement for our education system. Shenanigans I tell ya. Just look at Leo's link above. She won a few precincts, but all by slim margins (within 10%). The only way to close that spread would be that some later precincts (maybe heavy Phillipino ones like you suggested) came in with 90%+ for Hillary, but this did not happen.

Well, they try not to make some precincts so very much larger than others. If this were the case, you would be very misled by the 63% precincts reporting (that would only represent 10% of the population). That is why you have very large precincts in rural areas and small ones in urban areas. The % precincts reporting should be within 10% variance of the % votes counted. If this is not the case, than the voter fraud that I am worried about would be replaced with gerrymandering fraud, which is equally bad.

Okay, I won't venture too much into the gerrymandering stuff because I can't make a contribution.
When I'm reading your post, I'm kind of confused.
I also have a master's degree in math that I earned (2007).
Are you saying that it is impossible for the remaining 37 % to make up for losing 63 % of the vote by 10 %?
In other words, are you saying that no matter how big she won the remaining 37 % by, there are no numbers which would make it balance out?
Or are you basing this on statistics and probabilities? Even in statistics and probabilities, are you saying that two different counties could not have widely divergent demographics with widely different outcomes?
Could we not find counties in PA where unfortunately our guy lost by a lot and other areas that he won easily?
Maybe there are other reasons that you say this.
And those reasons may be completely true and valid. Or maybe I am wrong or am misreading your post, but here are my thoughts for what they are worth:
Picture a see saw with a fulcrum.
One one side of the fulcrum place a 10 pound weight. On the other side of the fulcrum fifty percent further out place a 25 pound weight.
How will the see saw end up? Which side would be lower and heavier?
Do you believe that the ten pound side will be lower and heavier?
Is that what you are really saying?
I did round some, but hopefully you can see what I follow my point.
The length of the see saw would be the total number of voters and has no bearing here. It does not have any impact on the percent that Hillary would have had to win by in the remaining 37% of the vote. This is true whether there be 10 total voters or 1 billion total voters.
Likelihood is one issue; possibility is another.
My focus was on real analyisis, topology, algebra..., not statistics.
Locations do seem to affect how demographics vote.
Don't the voting trends of different ethnicities vary according to where they live?
So, good sample representation might possibly be difficult to achieve.
And we also know that polls vary from one another, sometimes outside of the margin of error (method varies, likely voters definition, expected turnout among different demographic groups vary-- ).

Once again Obama shares a vision of what we think of America, what we've come to expect but have slowly seen fade away. His speech was genius and clarity. No other candidate for president since Robert Kennedy has been so insightful. What seems so different is that Obama has the ability to paint the picture of the America many of us have grown up with and he can see the very real tasks that lay ahead of us to make it real again. He finds the better angels in us and we owe it to ourselves and our families to make him our President.
And for the lone comment on this blog from a very sad individual, I can only hope that whatever causes the hate so deep inside, he will find an answer that leads him to a better place. To argue with him would be to argue with hate. It just can't be done. He'll have to find his own way.

Maybe this explains why so many people can believe that Senator Clinton is dishonest and still vote for her. From the NYT:
"I was appalled by Hillary going with the gas tax," said Alice M. Rivlin, a budget director under former President Bill Clinton who supports Mrs. Clinton for the nomination. It "looked like pandering," Mrs. Rivlin said.

I am a big believer in the power of prayer in my life, so I do it frequently throughout the day. I have been praying whenever I can for Barack, Michelle and the girls. They've been through so much this week and they just keep bouncing back, better than ever! Keep praying for them each day and night...
So, if you are someone who prays (I'm a Christian, a Quaker actually), let's continuously pray for Barack and his family. Hold them in the Light, as us Quakers say. However you do it, just do it. When you're not calling or canvassing, that is... I do believe it helps - the more the merrier.

Kenneth, I mostly agree with you. I don't think people are laughing about it, or find it funny - I hope not, anyway. But the death of a horse like that is a tragic thing, so I don't like to see it politicized in any way. There are some things that should be off limits, and the tragic death of a horse like that is one of them. Just my opinion...

It's the same message Barack has had for 15 months, but it's streamlined, spoken in plain language, without jargon (turn the page, cap & trade), and more powerful than ever.
In some ways, it reminds me more of Michelle's style - where she's doing more talking and less speech making. The icing on the cake is when Michelle and the two girls join him on stage at the end. What a beautiful first family this will make. It reminds me of the Kennedy family when I was a little girl.

The funny part about this is that he is getting blue collar votes but the press won't report it since it's not as "sexy." There is a large misconception out there in the MSM that cling to people who don't investigate the truth and take every word as gospel. Sen. Obama is getting the blue collar vote but no MSM will report it because it doesn't make news. It's like the idiots reporting that he's losing the white vote. That's garbage too because there are plenty of intelligent writers out there that have disproved this. Again...MSM won't report it...it doesn't make their news "sexy" enough.

For Callers: How Barack is Tougher (by far) than McCain or The Clintons |
Report to Admin
By
pgoCapeCod
May 3rd 2008 at 11:12 pm EDT
A Dozen ways Barack is Tough
Watch the campaigns carefully. They foreshadow the way that a leader will govern.
1. What's tough is growing up as a black child with a single white mom. (It's not exactly growing up elite.)
2. What's tough is deciding to campaign for President against a field of eight seasoned, talented politicians when you are the new comer and then beating all but one of your opponents. (So far.)
4. What's tough is building a community organization in every state in America and in every territory and with Americans abroad too.
5. What's tough is to do the work of understanding the tiny details of every single caucus state far in advance and to organize people to participate and to value their input. And then to win.
6. What's tough is to reach out across party, racial, ethnic, age, educational, religious and gender lines and include everyone in the campaign. Look at our campaign. No one else has done that, because it's too tough for them!
7. What's tough is to out fundraise all your opponents. By getting 1.5 million individual donors averaging less than $100 each. It's never been done before because it's too tough for our opponents to do. They say we can't change Washington because it's too tough. They are confused. It's too tough for the old politicians, but not for us. We have ALREADY changed the money game in politics.
8. What's tough is calling the other side personally to congratulate them when we lose, instead of sending a press release or a surrogate.
9. What's tough is to tell people what needs to be told not what they might want to hear.
10. What's tough is accepting and embracing all Americans as they are, with all our diversity and all of our differences. Even though it may lose some votes.
11. What's tough is facing down the media frenzy about the ex pastor issue by addressing the underlying issue of race in America.
12. What's tough is running a campaign of lifting up the nation, not a campaign based on tearing down the opposition. We stand for the upfront proposition that in America, we can show our patriotism or not show it as we each individually choose. No person or political party owns patriotism. We will never attack our opponents' patriotism.

It said a lot about her character. I use to think Bill was the really sleazy one. And her politics of racial division made me despise her and completely oppose her.
Of course, in any election cycle I would vote for Barack, whether Hillary was in it or not.
His positives stand out for me so much against anyone that I would choose him against any other opponent as well.
And My vote is first and foremost a vote for him; it is not first and foremost a vote against anyone. I say that despite my name. However, if she somehow steals this from him, because of her politics of racial division I will vote for whoever I think has the best chance to beat her.

Next time he's in front of a university crowd, I hope he invokes Newton's First Law of Motion when referring to the special interests. An object at rest stays at rest unless an outside force is applied to it. The Americans who vote will collectively apply the force that we need to get America moving in the right direction and remove the embedded special interests that have kept Washington from moving for the last 30 years with regards to energy policy, healthcare policy, education policy, and put intelligent tax policy back on the rails and pull it back from the illogical track on which it currently runs.

AAs are 22 % of the total population.
In North Carolina there are normally more Republicans than democrats.
And virtually all African Americans are democrats or vote democratic.
Therefore, 20 of that 22 belongs in the numerator. 50 belongs in the denominator since we are talking about the democratic party.
That makes is it about 40 %.

Thank you Barack Obama for calling on us to remember what America is about: common values, shared dreams, limitless hope. We have an obligation to leave a nation better than we inherited it, so that our children and their children can enjoy an America that enables all to dream of and achieve a better life.
We can make that change today, not just by voting for Barack Obama, which we must; but by conserving fuel to drive down the price. We can vote, and we can change our use of gasoline. We can carpool, we can shop with neighbors to save a shopping trip in our own car or theirs, we can plan multiple trips and combine them into one. Yes we can. Let's do it. Let's begin the change we want in Washington today in our own homes and communities.
This campaign is not just about Barack Obama, as he says; it's about America, what Americans want, and what Americans need. By all means work for an Obama victory on Tuesday, but know that we can change America, and we will, because we are going to give Barack Obama a mandate that we will support by our own actions, in our homes and our communities.

This is a great new message. He should stick with this for the remainder of the primary season - it is fresh, it is patriotic, it is American.

We must win Indiana and NC, both.

When polls show things this close, the winner is always the campaign with the best ground game
Thats how all the early primaries & caucus' were won.
If we want to win IN & NC every person who can make it to these states to help must do so now!
We have to do this at any cost. If you really believe do it now.
For those of you who can't, get on the phones. Walk the walk. Do we have the courage to be the best ground game?

You know your always shaping them better and refining ideas. A critique or suggestion if I can add. You are the senator who worked on the ethics reform, that should be pointed out. That point should be added and to remind us in detail that what we need in Washington is change, with facts behind that statement. We don't need an ex-p.o.w. in the white house out just because he is the most liberal conservative. We need to hear speeches with this much substance; constant reminders of your American heritage, truth about change not being easy but how you will support such bills; this needs to be rehashed with added facts or refined points all the way until November.
Barack Obama will not win this election with the help of media. We all honestly and truly know this for a fact at this point. With nothing but Wright articles and hour long shows being made that just simply proves it for me. Its a shame, I believe this message has already become to strong to try and ignore or put a lid on. We need to do as asked and help spread Obamas elect ability by word of mouth and to not get distracted this fall by Carl Rove.
I wear my Obama shirt a lot when I'm running errands. Its an easy way for me to show my support when Im at the market or some other store. I know it takes more then that so I try when I can.

Feminists for Peace and Barack Obama!
THE PETITION
In the coming elections, it is important to remember that war and peace are as much "women's issues" as are health, the environment, and the achievement of educational and occupational equality. Because we believe that all of these concerns are not only fundamental but closely intertwined, we will be casting our vote for Senator Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, we have watched with shock and sorrow as our country has become mired in war. The resulting tragedy for our own soldiers, their immediate families and for the people of Iraq has been incalculable.
Less obvious, but no less grave has been the impact on our domestic institutions and economy. With a defense budget of half a trillion dollars and expenditures now averaging $12 billion a month for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, resources that might have been used for health care, housing, education, repair of infrastructure, relief of poverty and community development have been drained away.
We urgently need a Presidential candidate, who understands that "pre-emptive" attacks on other countries and the reliance on military force have diminished rather then strengthened our national security. And we urgently need a Presidential candidate whose first priority is to address domestic needs. We do not believe that Senator Hillary Clinton is that candidate.
We also recognize that the election of Barack Obama would be another historic achievement and that his support for gender equality has been unwavering.
Yet it is noteworthy that at a time when this position was politically unpopular and when he was aiming for national office, Barack Obama opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq and has spoken out against the war ever since. This puts him in a far better position to articulate a clear challenge to a Republican opponent.
We are also moved by the positive tone of the Obama campaign, the tremendous energy it has released across the country, the dramatic engagement of young people and the impetus for change that his candidacy embodies.
We are speaking out now because we cannot afford to elect another President who will continue the aggressive, interventionist policies of the present.

Superdelegates must follow the will of voters
Demand that the Democratic Party defend democracy
Leaders of the Democratic Party are playing a dangerous game -- risking the credibility of the party to hand Hillary Clinton the nomination against the will of voters. Heading down this path means disenfranchising millions of voters and legitimizing a campaign strategy that has displayed a clear pattern of race baiting and divisive politics.
Join me in demanding that Democratic Party leadership and superdelegates uphold the integrity of the party and listen to the voice of voters.
Click right here right now to sign your name to this letter:

Here is the text of the message to send to the Democratic Party's leadership:
Attention: DNC Chair Howard Dean, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and superdelegates:
Dear party leaders:
The Democratic Party is playing a dangerous game and I'm writing to ask that you bring it to an end.
It has come to my attention that elected officials and party leaders are actually considering using their status as "superdelegates" to hand the nomination to Hillary Clinton against the will of voters, an action that would disenfranchise millions.
Following this course would be a shocking attack on voting rights and democracy. It would also give your seal of approval to an "electability" strategy executed by stoking race-based fear and division among voters. We expect that from the Republicans; we fight them on it every year. But now the leadership of the Democratic Party is poised to cosign this strategy of division and disenfranchisement. This could be the worst mistake the party has ever made, yet it's being talked about as a legitimate way for this campaign to end.
The voters who have come out in record numbers to participate in the Democratic Party won't allow this to happen, and as the most visible leaders of the party, you must reject the idea that the nomination can be won with a strategy that preys on racism, sows division, and disenfranchises millions of voters.
Sincerely,
Tom

Although Senator McCain has every right to respectfully "take back" his recent comment suggesting that Iraq war involved U.S. reliance on foreign oil. I would respectfully accept his "take back" comment.
But what Senator McCain "can't take back is the seriousness of the domestic and political questions that his comment posed as it relates to our Energy crisis before he "took back" the comment.
Senator Clinton also raised a question to the Senate and House of Representative recently. She indicated that she wanted the Congress to stand up and Vote. Are they for the Oil companies, or are they for you?
I am still waiting for the answer from the vote tally of this most historic question posed by the Senator.
Anyway, understanding that we are all consumer beneficiaries of the oil that they are talking about. I would like to have these questions sustained after the perplexed comment by Senator McCain without a "take back" and the oblique question "without sharing the answer" by Senator Clinton.
These kind of "take backs" and "imaginary play" sure help to confuse and elevate curiosity...
Are we consumers getting a fair share and a fair deal from the distribution of oil?
How much do our country spend for this popular subject of oil on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis?
Who owns it or take ownership and control of it?
How is it divided and who does it go to?
What have the establishment canididates done in the history of there career to make sure that the consumers are getting a fair and equitable share from the distribution and cost of oil?
If anybody have these answers please wake me up and share them with me.
Otherwise I would encourage any voter to support the candidate that's talking green and fuel efficent and the one who claims not to be perfect but one who has demonstrated a long term committment to help solve our deteriorated energy problems that have gone dormant far to long.

And believe it or not, this debate about America is so important, he is even calling on us to focus on things more important "than sniper fire". In other words, he is defending Hillary! He is calling on us to judge her on her view of the issues and not on some nonsense issue. Distractions really are on notice. Thank you Stephen Colbert. I really do miss cable/satellite.

One of the best speeches I've heard from Obama in awhile:
I love hearing about real solutions over gimmick Washington politics, and pandering by Clinton & McCain.
I love hearing that we are smarter than to be insulted by McCain and Clinton's stupid gas tax holiday that belies economist experts.
Yes we can build high speed rail to facilitate mass transit. Europe does it beautifully. I was in Germany, France and Switzerland 1 year ago and the rail system there is flawless: clean, safe, sophisticated, on time, everywhere, and cleaner than so many automobiles. It's time we installed American discovered MagLev trains nationwide that go 300mph to create blue collar construction jobs, alleviate airports, create competition, and lead to cleaner technology for mass transit.
It's about time we focus on the issues instead of all these peripheral attacks.
Jefferson and Adams would be proud.

Hi I am a Republican supporting Barack Obama. That is how I always start my calls, because its true and gets people's attention. Many are suprised and it allows me to open up about why I am supporting him.
I spoke with 2 older white gentleman today. Interesting phone calls. One told me he would not vote for a muslim, and someone with the middle name Hussein. I guess I sound white over the phone, but I am an African American women. I felt so discouraged before calling because of the news media's talking points on why white voters were losing their confidence in Barack, but after that phone call I see how much my calls make a difference. The 2nd older white guy said that he would take all my talking points into consideration (even the one's on Rev. Wright's sermons). I believe he might have been persuaded. I only mentioned my race when he started talking about black people and racism. We had a great talk! Hopefully these 2 older white guys will follow through and vote for Barack.

Hi Obama family,
I have finally broken myself of the need to watch CNN, ABC, MSNBC, etc. Whenever I feel the urge to turn onto a news station I go and make calls for Barack or I come on the blogs and read what the Obama family is discussing. I feel so much better and way more productive.
