Senator Kerry Hosts a Town Hall Meeting in Lansdowne

Residents of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania joined Senator John Kerry this afternoon to have a town hall discussion about why he supports Barack Obama for President.

Senator Kerry started out the discussion by telling the crowd that he won Pennsylvania in the primary election and the general election, and that he was helping Barack to keep that winning streak going.

Having worked with Barack on the Senate Foreign Relations committee, Senator Kerry knows firsthand Barack's ability to be the next Commander-In-Chief.  He said:

There is a night and day difference between John McCain and Barack Obama.  McCain has the wrong judgment about the war in Iraq.  Barack understood Iraq from the beginning, and his judgment captures the needs of this country and the world.  Barack knows that we should only go to war because we have to, not because the President wants us to.  I want a President who understands what is right from the beginning.  I want to get back to an age where we are proud to be Americans.

Senator Kerry challenged the crowd, especially the undecided voters, to make their mark on history in this upcoming election. He said:

History gives you these unique moments.  And Barack Obama is giving us a moment that we can grab onto a transformational moment where we can put forth an entirely different story to the country and the world. He can bring truth to the notion that all men are created equal. But we need your help. We're coming from behind and if we all work together, we have the ability to make history. And that's something to be proud of.

After answering questions from the crowd about the economy and jobs, energy, and veterans issues, Senator Kerry reminded everyone that there are only 17 days until Election Day.  He encouraged everyone to join a neighborhood team and to sign up to canvass.

Two Lansdowne residents, Joan and Ann, were excited to see Senator Kerry and discuss issues that concerned them.  Both women are concerned about the war in Iraq, but are encouraged by Barack's plan to bring troops home.

Joan likes that Barack has stirred up enthusiasm with the youth and that he has attracted support from public servants such as Senator Patrick Leahy and former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski.  Ann also appreciated the diversity of Barack's supporters including Senator Dodd, and is encouraged by the amount of women coming forward in support of Barack.
