The campaign has been highlighting organizations that are helping with Hurricane Gustav relief efforts today. Save The Children is one more organization that is dedicated to helping those affected by this natural disaster. The organization sent staff to the Gulf Coast last week to help ensure the safety and protection of children before, during and after the hurricane.
Along with deploying staff, Save The Children has distributed 1,500 backpacks that contain teddy bears, flashlights, safety whistles, craft activities, personal supplies such as washcloths, bars of soap and toothbrushes, and other items to comfort frightened, displaced children at shelters throughout Louisiana. They have set up 'safe spaces' in shelters that provide an area for children to play and regain a sense of normalcy and security. They are also working with shelters to meet the immediate needs of families who need supplies such as diapers and wipes, baby bottles, diaper rash ointment, etc.
