McCain’s Magic Get Out of Gaffe Free card (modeled after Monopoly’s “Get out of Jail” card)

He’s already used it for everything from justifying cheating on his first wife, defending his health care plan, even explaining his music tastes. Heck, when McCain was accused of not being in a “cone of silence” as promised before his interview at the Saddleback Church, his campaign’s response was “The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous.”

THIS IS FUNNY!!! Obviously this card was made before McCain’s latest use of the POW card; Not remembering how many houses he owns.

Rather than reply with either a real answer or a similarly light-hearted joke, McCain brought up his POW status.

6:30 p.m.: A Jimmy Carter video reminds us how Daffy and Fudd screwed the pooch during and after Katrina. Carter and Rosalynn made a brief appearance on stage, but did not speak.

7:30 p.m.: Jesus, the old war horse himself is at the rostrum. More power to his arm. "Nothing is going to keep me away from this special gathering tonight," he says. "I have come here tonight to stand with you, to change America . . . to elect Barack Obama president of the United States." A malignant brain tumor, surgery, the works, and he makes Pelosi look like a timid telemarketer.

8:46 p.m.: Hoo haw. Michelle just threw a bone to Hillary Clinton: 18 million cracks in that glass ceiling. It may be the wine, but I'm starting to feel about her the way I once did about Hillary: I think she just might make a better president than her old man.

IT IS McCAIN WHO IS NOT READY TO LEAD

When the Republican say Barack is not ready to lead, they should point out.

First, that other than political campaigns and a congressional or senate staff, John McCain has never run anything except a Navy air training squadron --- which is a relatively small command --- and one he probably received because of his family connections. So it is arguable he has virtually no more leadership experience than Barack had in community organizing, and running his campaigns and staff. And Obama has run a magnificent campaign for the nomination, considering Obama started with virtually nothing.

In fact, if McCain had not divorced his first wife to marry a woman worth $100 million dollars, it is not clear he would have ever accomplished anything of significance, other than his admirable sacrifices for his nation in his youth, sacrifices that prove his patriotism, but not the judgment necessary to lead this nation.

Compare this to Obama, who has risen to national prominence based on his own talent, without the aide of an extremely power father and grandfather and the money of an extremely wealthy wife.

Second, JOHN MCCAIN HAS SHOWN SOME OF THE WORST FOREIGN POLICY JUDGMENT OF ANY NATIONAL LEADER IN THE U.S. For example, his current foreign policy positions are more extremely Neoconservative than those of George Bush. In fact, his major foreign policy adviser wanted the US to go to war not only with Iraq, but also with Iran and Syria. In fact, this advisor was one the extreme Neocons who DEMANDED THAT GEORGE BUSH GO TO WAR WITH IRAQ JUST NINE DAYS AFTER 9/11 and said that if he didn’t, the president would be attacked politically from the right. To see just how horrible McCain’s foreign policy and his main foreign policy adviser are, please read the following two articles, one from a Democrat and one from a Republican.

Anybody who has such horrible judgment in picking positions and advisers on foreign policy should not be allowed anywhere near the Presidency.

If you can't donate any because you have met your limit, you can always contact your local Obama office or local Combined Dem. Campaign office and see what type of "in kind" donations they need. These things would not count against your monetary donations. Our offices need such things as sharpies, pens, food, drinks, chairs, tape, poster board, etc. I even took a dustpan, toilet paper and a toilet plunger to our office last week. Everything item we can take helps preserve campaign money for things we probably can't donate (ads,etc.)

I just heard Terry McCauliff, one of Sen. Clinton's campaign managers, talking on some news show. He said he will have done 120 tv interviews by the time he finishes, and all he kept saying to repeated efforts to get him to say their is tension and division between the Clinton and Obama camps was "I am giving Obama all I've got. I will do everything in my power to see that he is elected, and so will Hillary and Bill Clinton. We all realize that our country cannot stand four more years of failed Republican policies. We are going to elect Barack Obama. Primary season is over. We are beyond that, so stop asking about it. We are working to elect Barack Obama." Thank you, Terry McCauliff.

The candidate we still don’t know….

What is widely known is the skin-deep, out-of-date McCain image. As this fairy tale has it, the hero who survived the Hanoi Hilton has stood up as rebelliously in Washington as he did to his Vietnamese captors. He strenuously opposed the execution of the Iraq war; he slammed the president’s response to Katrina; he fought the “agents of intolerance” of the religious right; he crusaded against the G.O.P. House leader Tom DeLay, the criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff and their coterie of influence-peddlers.

With the exception of McCain’s imprisonment in Vietnam, every aspect of this profile in courage is inaccurate or defunct.

McCain never called for Donald Rumsfeld to be fired and didn’t start criticizing the war plan until late August 2003, nearly four months after “Mission Accomplished.” By then the growing insurgency was undeniable. On the day Hurricane Katrina hit, McCain laughed it up with the oblivious president at a birthday photo-op in Arizona. McCain didn’t get to New Orleans for another six months and didn’t sharply express public criticism of the Bush response to the calamity until this April, when he traveled to the Gulf Coast in desperate search of election-year pageantry surrounding him with black extras.

McCain long ago embraced the right’s agents of intolerance, even spending months courting the Rev. John Hagee, whose fringe views about Roman Catholics and the Holocaust were known to anyone who can use the Internet. (Once the McCain campaign discovered YouTube, it ditched Hagee.) On Monday McCain is scheduled to appear at an Atlanta fund-raiser being promoted by Ralph Reed, who is not only the former aide de camp to one of the agents of intolerance McCain once vilified (Pat Robertson) but is also the former Abramoff acolyte showcased in McCain’s own Senate investigation of Indian casino lobbying.

Though the McCain campaign announced a new no-lobbyists policy three months after The Washington Post’s February report that lobbyists were “essentially running” the whole operation, the fact remains that McCain’s top officials and fund-raisers have past financial ties to nearly every domestic and foreign flashpoint, from Fannie Mae to Blackwater to Ahmad Chalabi to the government of Georgia. No sooner does McCain flip-flop on oil drilling than a bevy of Hess Oil family members and executives, not to mention a lowly Hess office manager and his wife, each give a maximum $28,500 to the Republican Party.

Skip the commentaries, negative talk, and all that junk that comes along with MSM. Watch the Democratic convention on C-SPAN. Last night I felt like I was there and there was not all that MSM decidiing what I got to see and hear and hearing them talk about what they want to promote. Hit MSM where it hurts. If you don't watch, it doesn't show up in their numbers!

Watching the convention on C-SPAN is SO MUCH better!! No commercials. You get to here the speeches you want to hear, as opposed to the ones the media thinks you should hear. You don't have to listen to a bunch of biased commentary telling you how you're supposed to interpret the speech. And best of all, NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS FROM THE REPUBS!

C-SPAN is the ONLY way to watch/follow the Convention!

What I don’t get is that so many Republicans say that they are voting for McCain because they share his “Family Values”. Well does that mean that these same people condone ADULTRY? DO they condone insulting children in refrence to his cruel joke about Chelsea Clinton/Janet Reno? Do they condone him leaving his wife after she waited on him for several years while he was a POW? Do they condone him flat out lying about his record? Do they condone the SORRY example he is setting for younger generation with all of his lying and negativity….. It is just so darn frustrating to be sitting here in Iraq and see a person who is supposed to be honorable continue to present himself in such a dishonorable light.

I am a retired Marine. I commend you speaking up also. These service members who are supporting Senator McCain's candidacy have forgotten that he was a staunch opponent of the new GI Bill that provides better assistance to Veterans. A look at John McCain's voting record on Veteran issues shows that he votes AGAINST Veterans all most all of the time. This is another reason as a Veteran myself I cannot bring myself to vote for this man. And you are right, he is campaigning without honor and dignity. But, he is trying to win at all cost.

They were trying to break up 300 people so traffic could get through. They were a mile from
the CC.

Also, I partially read an article in the Philly Inquirer from a conservative columnist who was describing protesters as strange Democrats.
I would firmly argue that not all protesters are Dems, each group just wants to have thier issue heard and what better way than during a national convention !

Have you been living under a rock? Obama is not proposing tax increases except for the very richest Americans. Under Barack's plan - including small businesses - if you make less than 250K you get substantial tax CUTS.

Low prices for oil are a delusion. We actually pay as much as $15 per gallon for each gallon of gas that we consume. A higher price would induce innovation and technological growth that will induce long term growth in the economy. Your understanding of economics is just a bit scewd.

Yes raising taxes on business could hurt but it's how and on which business you raise them on that is what's important.

He is raising taxes (and actually they are more penalties) for business that are shipping American jobs overseas while he is going to offer tax breaks to companies who create additional jobs right here at home.

He wants to do away with many of the tax loop holes that are currently being used by the largest companies while giving tax breaks to companies that are playing by the rules without the loop holes.

So for every tax increase on business there will be hundreds of more business will get relief from their taxes. This is the trickle up Idea and not the trickle down which has proven that it does not work.

When the rich keep getting rich while the average American keeps loosing the value of their pay (inflation rising faster than income) we are left with what we see with todays economy, and if you are one of those fearing the loss of your home or job, you would understand the affects of not doing something, even if it appears (as you seem to think) that it is nothing more than another burden. What might look a concern really is not.

Besides, how has not taxing these business kept them from raising prices now? What are you paying for gas and food?

Prices rise because of the economy. When you lose 500,000 jobs since February there will be less spending.

Obama's economists (the best this nation and world have to offer, the pinnacle if you will) are the ones advising him and highly tout his plan for the economy. It's not a plan like McCain's or any Republican attempt to keep the wealthy of our country as the recipients of every tax break known but one that will actually benefit 95% of Americans. Policies of this current administration and policies that McCain himself plans to continue have brought this country down. You might be satisfied but 95% of America needs to know that they are being lied to and those such as yourself will spread falsehoods about Obama's tax plans.

Quite frankly, I find McCain's ads insulting to the American people. He talks down to people and for God's sake, where does he get off with the "my friend" stuff...how presumptive and arrogant.

I've seen nothing but negativity in the GOP ads. There are no answers for the middle class, only accusations, insults,fabrications and assumptions.

McCain doesn't have a clue what it is like to live on a fixed or even a modest income. He doesn't know what it's like to work two or three jobs (sometimes 4 to 6 for a couple) just to pay the rent and put food on the table. He simply rests comfortably on his laurels as a war hero and his wife's cushy inherited fortune.

Obama ads at least speak for the people, not at the people from some lofty place as though we are the untouchables. If you like McCain's ads, then I suggest you vote for McCain. Myself, I prefer the honesty, integrity, and inclusiveness of the Obama campaign messages.

I can't support some jerk with an absurd challenge to pick lettuce for $50/hour. And, he's wrong about the American people. I know many folks who have labored at the jobs he says Americans won't/can't do, including myself, who have done whatever is necessary to survive. I know many who are doing just these jobs today.

One pundit says something and they all run with it like Pavlov;s Dogs. They do not want Obama to win, they do not want McCain to win, they want the make controversy so the viewers watch and they get a bigger share of the audience. That is all that they want. Barack has been ahead all year in the polls save 2. You never hear, why is Mc Cain behind in the polls?. When Mc Cain polled ahead by a narrow margin, the headlines read, Obama support slips. When Obam was ahead all those months by slight and better than slight margins, the headline read. Obama hangs on by a thread, why can't he break that 50 % point barrier? Seriously folks, you are foolish if you think that anything motivates these guys besides ratings. Whomever wins this election will be viserated in the media. They will equally hate McCain and Obama. Thats why I dont listen anymore. At least the British Press is consistenty negative press, and admits it.

Watching her last night was an event to remember. I had heard her before in person and was moved to tears. Last night was a little different, I was sobbing.

I watched it with my 13 YO and to see her eyes light up, made me proud. I told her to listen intently on what she had to say because this will be a moment in time that you will never forget.

I don't know how anyone couldn't feel the chills on your arms or that tingle in your spine that made you shout!!

As a 35 YO AA woman, I want to say thank you. Thank you for showing my daughter that there is nothing, you can't be or do. Even when the odds are stacked againist you.

No matter what anyone says, the heart doesn't lie. And last night, my heart was so full of love and happiness.

This is causing some consternation in Dem circles today:

Former Gov. Mark Warner plans to offer a lesson in Virginia-style bipartisanship to thousands of hardcore Democrats in his convention keynote speech Tuesday night.

"There may be parts of the speech that aren't going to get a lot of applause," Warner said Monday, "but I've got to say what I believe will get our country back on the right path."...

For Mark Warner, who is seeking the Senate seat of retiring Republican John Warner, a red-meat speech that would bring the party's most passionate warriors to their feet in Denver would undermine a carefully cultivated image at home that has given him a strong lead in statewide polls and a lopsided fundraising advantage.

It's hard to say from the AP's reporting what exactly Warner is going to say. But the chatter in Dem circles is that if Warner does undermine the power of the Dems' partisan message tonight to some degree, it could muddle efforts to draw the contrast with McCain as sharply as is necessary.

With yesterday's convention largely a Teddy-Michelle love-fest, and Clintons speaking today and tomorrow, more sharp contrasting with McCain is what's called for right about now. Not less.

Barack's speech in 2004 was also bipartisan and that was one reason the country fell in love with him and he is the candidate for president today. I don't think the applause in the convention are that important. They are already voting for Barack, it is important to absorb some Republicans and that kind of speech would help.

Our attacks against the gaffe got us nowhere. McCain leads in Gallup tracking poll for the first time today.

The numbers: McCain 46%, Obama 44%, with a ±2% margin of error.

A caveat: This poll was conducted almost entirely before last night's big convention speeches by Michelle Obama and Ted Kennedy.

Obama may still go down in the polls. Some HIllary supporters were saying they were Undecided until Obama picked his VP. Now he's picked his VP and it's not HIllary. So they are mad, and don't care what Hillary says.

I am emphasizing on the phones that if McCain wins we lose everything Hillary fought for. If Obama wins we get both HIllary and Obama because she will still have a strong role to play in leading the country. She will be even stronger if she's NOT the vice-president, which is a job she is too big for! She will have more influence in the Senate or in whatever other role she and Barack work out to lead the country forward!

Yep, he finally broke 45. John McCain had never received more than 45% of support in the Gallup poll until now. Saddleback and the negative campaign ads has hurt in the polls. You have to answer questions honestly and not skip on them because they are controversial to the masses. Polls are just snap shots. This can be overcome but it will not be done during this convention, it will be in the Presidential debates. I don't like the fact that the first two Presidential debates are in conservative strongholds. This plays in the hands of John McCain and you know people, if it was on T.V. or in print, it must be true. In other words, reaction, like during the Saddleback forum, by the audience will influence a many voter.

I have never been a clinton lover, and i have never been a clinton hater. i always just preferred barack, and that is why i voted for him in the primary. i am hopeful that hillary is going to do us proud, because if the election is lost due in any part to her not rallying her own supporters to the cause she will NEVER be forgiven by the rest of us...and that means her political career would be completely and utterly finished.

I heard Terry mcaliff (sp) on the radio just an hour ago. I think it could have been a broadcast from the evil MSM. But I was quite pleased to hear how strongly he advocated for Obama and how strongly he suggested the clintons would be supporting Obama.

It is time for all of this bickering amongst you democrats to end. In particular the Obama supporters who continue to bash Clinton are not helping Obama. The anti Clinton rhetoric is only benefitting McCain. So if you really want to elect Obama you will put aside your differences now. You know who you are.

I am so furious right now I can't even type! I was watching Obama live on CNN.com and my video stopped. When it started back up, it was McCain in AZ!!! I am on hold now with CNN. On their website right now, the video says Obama Live, but it's McCain! This is outrageous.

I think we need to stop panicking and even paying attention to national polls at this point. I really don't expect much separation in the polls until after the debate. We have to remember that this election is Obama's to lose, so America just needs to know/feel he is the man for the job. This will happen when he's on the same stage with McCain. We need to stop worrying every time a new poll comes out.

Who is doing the polling? Are they republicans? Likely. If so, you can bet they are manipulating the polls to scare the people. They know there are always those voters who care more about winning than supporting their party/candidate; thus, will use deceptive polling methods to persuade these voters to choose the person they show is ahead.

LOL !!

On a more serious (and potentially risky, given where I'm posting!) note, Senator McCain's use of his POW history to try to manipulate the American people is a real disappointment to me. In truth, I have always respected that service and sacrifice to our nation, and I always appreciated it as honorable.

Now, he just sullies and cheapens something that should be nearly sacred. And he diminishes the service and sacrifice of others.

I would not have voted for him as we disagree on key issues, but I used to at least respect his service.

The longer he does it, the more he is going to turn people off. Which I suppose is good for us; but I would rather he lost this race in a way that does not diminish the work of our current Armed Forces.

Sometimes politics is so wearying.

I thought Obama was smart enough to look beyond HRC. You know Biden is a great candidate not only for VP but also he is very qualified to be the P. But for Obama things are not working very well. He seems he can win but all polls show he is losing ground . Not only one or two polls, but all polls shows this. Today's Gallup is a shocking show.

I always told you. Even though we you don't like HRC, he should have nominated her to win. This is the only way he can win . He is running against two people HRC and McCain.

It is unlikely he wins this election.

I think the shout out to Senator Clinton from Michelle Obama in her speech last night awoke the Senator and she will be on her "A" game tonight. I think you will hear why you should support Senator Obama for President from Senator Clinton tonight. I think her speech will shake-up and wake-up her supporters like Mrs. Obama's did for Senator Clinton tonight. And, once Senator Clinton shake things up, former President Clinton will add to the quake tomorrow evening, not to be upstaged by two ladies. That will follow with what could be one heck of an acceptance speech on Thursday night. If this is done right, you will have to look in the mirror and admit openly and loudly that you are an IDIOT if you still support John McCain come Friday morning.

Speaking of Friday morning. I would bank on John McCain announcing his VP tomorrow evening just before Senator Obama's speech or during to try and detract from his speech. What I don't understand about what you say is how would a lot of people have had respect for a Candidate for President who would have nominated HRC, after she had been so nasty and insulting toward him. New McCain Ad Attacks Obama Kids

In what might be his most controversial attack ad in a campaign dominated by them, presumptive G.O.P. presidential nominee John McCain today launched a new TV spot attacking Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill)'s two children.

According to political insiders, a negative ad targeting a rival's offspring is highly unorthodox, especially when the children in question are under the age of ten.

But after the two Obama kids scored in their performance on national television last night at the Democratic convention, "we had to do something to give the American people some straight talk on those two brats," Sen. McCain said today.

In the ad, which is being broadcast in key swing states, an announcer intones, "They're the cutest children in the world - but are they ready to lead?"

The spot uses visuals to link the two Obama kids to other famously cute kids, such as the young Drew Barrymore and the Cabbage Patch dolls.

The commercial goes on to blast the Obama children for "smiling and giggling but refusing to state their position on offshore oil drilling."

While some critics questioned how well the ad would play in living rooms across America, Sen. McCain defended it, telling reporters, "It played very well in all of my living rooms."

What a sleazy bastard John McCain is calling Barack's kids brats. This is taken it too far in my opinion. I'm seriously outraged.

54 years ago, another senator name Mc - Joseph McCarthy engaged in charactor assassination and guilt by association.

In a famous exchange, lawyer Joseph Welch took on McCarthy to say:

Sorry Robert but you most certainly are complaining.

Here's where you and most of this board differs.

You're here asking why McCain and the MSM get away with all this lying.

What you should be doing instead is educating people about those lies. You can do this even on this site (there are real trolls that need educating) or other sites as well.

If we each get on the phone or knock on doors or just sit somewhere and openly talk with people willing to listen we can inform them rather than just letting the media do it.

The choice is ultimately yours, but it costs nothing to talk with others unless you travel to different locations. But then how much are you willing to donate in the way of not just money but time educating Americans about the lies propagated by MCCain and his MSM pundits?

To all BO supporters.

These are tense times; the tension will only increase as the days to 11/04 dwindle.

We have a choice......

We can be frustrated and rail against all that is aligned against us OR

We can unite as a single-minded support group and do everything in OUR POWER to achieve our goal.

WE CAN'T CONTROL the RNC, McCain or his surrogates, the pollsters, the MSM, or HRC diehards.

WE CAN CONTROL increased voter registration; personal contribution and one-on-one advocacy, and continual effrots to "keep 'em honest" when BO is wrongly attacked.

Obama and his key campaign people know that the answer to the election is having the best ground game, registering youthful and minority and voters hurt by the GWB policies, and "keep on keeping on" with an effective campaign.

I want to shout out to those who continue to urge us to ignore that which we can't change - polls are certainly no help to us as they don't change adarned thing!

I also want to shout out to former President Carter - he was all over the place yesterday with hard-hitting interviews, lending his senior and intelligent take on the election and just how important the BO win is to our future.

James Caville looks unhappy, acts unhappy and talks nothing positive! This man is an opportunist whose wife published a book intended to damage Obama. He did nothing about it! He has never criticised the book in question--a propaganda diatribe written by a an extreme right wing hatemonGer. The thing about Carville is that he sits on both sides of the fence: If Democrats win, he claims to be a part of them; if they lose, he benefits through his wife on the Republican side. In the meantime, while many former Clinton supporters are now clearly doing their best for Obama, Caville keeps whining on the sideline--spreading rumors about division, the dissatisfaction of the Clintons and how they should have been treated better. He even criticised Michelle Obama's speech at the Convention's opening night--a speech that has gotten rave reviews as excellent! Maculliffe, the former DNC Chairman and Clinton supporter, has been playing a more positive role and clearly affirmative in his support for Obama. The attitude of the Clintons and their supporters like Caville to Obama and Obamarites is simply this: we will re-write history on our own terms or create chaos at the Convention. They want to muscle their way into things and places that are Obama's to control, and nothing short of having their way will make them happy. This, to me smarks of racism by code--because they did not dare to do this when John Kerry and Al Gore were the Democratic Party’s nominees. This sort of blackmail will go down in history as a memorable episode of discrafeful conduct on the part of a loser who, in reality tried to dstroy the Democratic Party itself during her Primary contest using all sorts of nefarious and dark tactics that Sen. Here's my two cents for the day:

1. Watch the convention on C-span tonight. No constant commentary. Just the live feed. It's the next best thing to being there.

2. If you have donated all the money the law allows, or if you don't have any money to donate, contact your local Obama office or combined Dem. campaign office and see what kind of help they could use. Maybe some stuff you can supply. Our offices need pens, markers, food, drinks, tape, poster board, chairs, trash bags, just about anything you can think of. I rescued a perfectly good chair from the trash a neighbor put out for the dumptruck and took it to the office. Last week I took over a dustpan, a toilet plunger, and toilet paper. They probably need a box of kleenex, too. You probably have some things in your house your local office could use. Ours wants some plants just to make the place look at little nicer. You could take the paid staffers a home cooked meal because they are working so hard that they just eat whatever happens to be lying around for the most part. Healthy snacks would be good, too.

Do you know what medications McCain is on and for what?

The fact he claims disability for being 100% disabled makes me wonder as well--I don't have a problem with disabilities and I know that people wiht disabilities can do all kinds of jobs and do them well. But 100% disability seems to mean that there is some incapacity and yet he wants to be president. Is he really fit to be COC physically? I think that's a fair question. Is his disability ptsd? If so, that's scary. I have all compassion and sympathy for people with PTSD---my partner is a clinical psychologist and treats people with PTSD. It is curable and treatable, but untreated it is problematic for someone that wants to be COC.

I think McCain has some more questions he needs to answer about his health and owes the public more disclosure about his status.

Being a POW works both ways, it's not just a get out of jail free card! LOL!

Almost as soon as he said it, McCain's aides were running away from the quote, and McCain has maintained since then that Roe v. Wade was a bad decision that should be overturned. This is a BIG issue among Republicans. They have their own infighting going on between the Huckabee and Romney camps because of the ABORTION issue.

The question now becomes: Will the 527's and MSM (probably not) exploit the RNC's rift???

Still think it is gonna be Joe Lieberman or Gen. Petraeus on Mczips ticket.

Lieberman would fit in great, he supports the hideous war in Iraq, the one for profit, making Bush, Cheney richer. Oh yeah did I mention Lieberman defected from the pro American family party, to the party of "Greeds"

He calls himself an Independent, not, he is a Republican all the way!

What if an ad had some of Romney's statements on McCain and then in the middle of the negativity...OOPS!!! That's the McCain campaigns way of politics...

Move on to something positive like "vote for renewable energy vote for Obama...

We could do that with everything...
