Our Governor, affectionately referred to as "The Gubenator," probably will not be attending either. He will not leave California until we have a sound fiscal policy-- I wonder if Senator McCain is listening? Arnold is actually telling Republicans in my state that our tax revenues MUST go up, while simultaneously telling our Democrats that spending MUST go down. It is an interesting stand-off-- and I'm on the side of fiscal common sense; I hope California's legislators are as well. Senator McCain's fiscal policies have NO common sense and would put such a debt burden on the next generation that it is almost unbearable for me to consider.

ENOUGH nonsense. We need common sense and practicality-- we need Senator Barack Obama and the change we will bring to Washington!

Palin is McCain's bridge to nowhere.
So, if Congress had gone along and coughed up what Stevens and Young had asked for, guess what….that bridge to nowhere would have become a reality during the Palin administration. She supported the bridge every step of the way…until the funding was cut. So we decided to say, “Thanks, but no thanks. If we want a bridge we’ll build it ourselves?!” Is that like the failed earmark version of “You can’t fire me….I quit!”

I totally agree with your opinion on Palin. What kills me is the insanity of so much of the media to defend Palin. The media have turned against us long ago.

My question to them is, how can you really rate a governor and her policies if it's only her second year in office. Economy-wise, even Fed have a hard time to measure our economy, they usually do not evennow if we are in recesion until several months afterwards. That's the natural of the beast
So tell me how can you evaluate the governor of Alaska, where demographics and lifestyles are totally different than rest of the america, who have had little time for us to see the effects of her policies?

I am sooooo jacked after watching the Sunday talk shows this morning. They all were talking positive things about Palin, but what I got out of it is....

We currently have the Bush/McCain ticket, but now we have the Cheney/Palin ticket as well.

Cheney the oil man was CEO of Haliburton.
Palin was the chairwomen of the Alaskan Oil & Gas Commission.

Palin and Cheney do not believe Global Warming is man-made even though the evidence is overwhelming.

Palin and Cheney believe in Creationism over Evolution which has been discredited in the courts in Deleware. PBS is a special on the court case.

Palin and Cheney believe that ALL abortions should be abolished.

Palin and Cheney believe there should be no restrictions on gun ownership.

Rachael Maddow, NBC News, found an article in the Anchorage newspaper where Palin gave her support to Sen. Stevens famous Bridge to Nowhere.

Palin is currently under investigation for for using her political power to personally get a person fired based on her personal view of the person.

Excellent choice McSame...

McCain/Palin = Bush/Cheney.

Do we really want more neo-con oil cronies in the Whitehouse?

All obama (puke) has proposed is MORE taxes to give my money away to those that are riding on my coat tails. My 7 boys cost me enough to raise, I do not need to support some welfare (puke) junkie also....

Government runs most effectively the smaller it is. But then where would all of those jobs go that big government creates.... I know you would have to get a real job......

Bubba-- please think.

Our current President DOUBLED the size of our bureaucracy. That is NOT smaller government, that is GREAT BIG government-- and it is incompetent government.

We have heard absolutely NOTHING to suggest that Senator McCain will do anything different, other than try to eliminate earmarks which are so small a part of our budget that their elimination would do very little.

Senator Obama, conversely, plans to go line by line through our federal budget and eliminate every program that does not work, stream-line efficiencies, and make important programs work again. That is a great start toward the efficiency that our current government so pathetically lacks.

Senator Obama will also take our 20th Century behemoth of a government and turn it into a 21st Century efficiency machine. Senator Obama UNDERSTANDS the technology that will do this-- Senator McCain ADMITS that he cannot use a computer without assistance, does NOT like new technology and has absolutely no grasp of how to stream-line our bureaucracies using this new technology.

If you want more of the same, vote for Senator McCain.

If you know our Country needs to change, and we cannot afford more of the same, vote for Senator Obama.

Also-- unless you make over $250,000 per year, you will get a tax CUT from Senator Obama -- that is right. Why? Because Senator Obama understands what the GOP, and Senator McCain, just do not get. Senator Obama understands that unless our middle class is strong and flourishing, our Dollar will continue to decline, our economy will retract more and our future looks bleak.

Please THINK on November 4th-- and don't just let yourself be spun. We have been spinning with GOP distractions now for 7 1/2 long years -- and we simply cannot afford to spin for another 4.

I wonder why they are accepting donations when McCain accepted public financing for the GE phase, which we are now in. Won't they have to return those funds? Perhaps the donations were to the RNC. Anyone know?

Interestingly, the Evolution Wars (Parts I, II and III) helped elect Governor Sebelius in Kansas-- Kansans got sick and tired of being told to throw their common sense out the door and undermine both science and religion by teaching them in the same classroom.

What intrigues more about this whole "intelligent design" thing is that these "evolution wars" are funded and fought from MY state-- yes, California-- from a "Think Tank" out of Orange County.

I wonder what midwesterners think about a bunch of Californians trying to "design" their school curriculums-- instead, of those same Californians trying to do the same at home. It is the silly season either way. Science and religion are perfectly compatible, but both are undermined when taught in the same classroom.

Sometimes it seems to me that the Faith of many of these "creationists" is made of vapor so thin that the slightest bit of scientific evidence undermines that Faith and frightens them. Perhaps these people should first work on strengthening their own Faith and then worry about other people's. Just my own opinion-- and this IS an opinion based on my own speculation. I just wonder at the vitriol we hear from many of these creationists-- in my experience (which is obviously excessively non-exhaustive) vitriol generally signals either a deep-seated fear of failure (in this case failure of Faith, I think), or a long-festering rancor. My Faith is strong enough to survive scientific proof-- indeed, science often strengthens my own Faith, oddly enough.

When I can bring my turtle brain to understand a scientific theory, the effect is rather like praying-- the beauty of it astounds me and takes my breath away, it is like standing in awe at the feet of the Rockies and feeling God everywhere, or kneeling in prayer and feeling His embrace on the air. Faith and science are very similar, I think-- just different paths on the journey to the same place.

I was putting on my make-up ...saying a prayer that...in this country...there will be just enough people to vote for Barack....so we have a chance at keeping this great country intact...and as I was praying for all that lead US...it occurred to me our governors.....they are entrusted with each states welfare and against foreign attack...NOW WHY would she have said she has never thought about Iraq...doesn't that include terorists and doesn't her state have a oil pipeline running right through it. What is her plan to protect them and the Alaskan people....I guess none......now she thinks she could protect this country.. How INSANE IS THAT ??? NO how MCSANE is that. He IS PUTTING US ALL IN HARMS WAY TO GET ELECTED....
I SAY MASSIVE MEDIA BOMBS.....really 1,000,000,000s of them I start yet tonight and all day tomorrow. I can send one e-mail to 184 places. Total outrage....over that one fact...putting us in harms way just to get elected.

YOUTH VOTE -- why should this election be so important to the so-called youth vote? I took info right from the department of defense website -- over 75% of the casualties are military under age 30 --- 90% were under age 40. We all know someone who has lost someone in this war -- this war that is also tied to our falling economy. The theory is that youth are not responsible enough to get out there and vote -- but who led us into this war? It wasn't a youth at all --- but the youth and all of us Obama supporters will be the ones to end this. THIS IS OUR TIME!!!

"Hello....I thought I would inform everyone who knows nothing about Alaska......I was born and raised in Alaska and my 3 daughters were born and raised there....I am a Native American/lived in Ketchikan/3rd largest city in Alaska just south of the state capitol/an island girl..Alaska has a population of 700,000 and has No State Tax...why..All of the state is funded by the perm/fund...and nobody pays taxes...in fact every year, every person recieves a perm/fund check of on average of $1000.00.So she has no budget to balance...just endless money to spend...and a surplus every year...Where does this money come from...OIL!!!! The Alaska pipeline was built in the 70s..my bothers help build it...and they oblished state taxes after the billions it profided for the state...So now you not only have a Oil Man running...You have a Oil woman....don't think that she is going to bite the hand that feeds her....SHE WILL SUPPORT THE OIL COMPANY'S!!!!I now live in the lower 48...however I know Alaska..my home state.....It does not take any experince to becaome anything or anybody you want in Alaska....MOST people have a high school degrees only and do on the job training to work...Alaska has the highest paid teachers in all 50 states....why? they can afford it...they build the best and most expencive schools in the country...same reason...endless oil money...My youngest daughter who is a senior in college has the experience to become the Governor of Alaska in Alaska standards....but that dosn't mean she is QUALIFIDE!!!!!!Trust me on that one....check out some of the people in Alaska who have made it to office...their qualifications would not even get them a job working as a head of a garbage company.....the reason for this is....Alaska has a ratio of 10 men for every woman...and people who move to Alaska from ANTWHERE else in the world leave because of the harsh weather conditions....if you wern't born and raised there you usually won't stay!!!....so that leaves slim pickens...you know what I mean...Alaska is THE OIL STATE...relying completly on it's oil for survival....So when you hear this Governor talk about tax savings...she can only be meaning taxes on your house or local taxes//and this

I was so happy when I heard Barack Obama talk speech.Iam equally Happy when hate filled people ,like Sean Hannity got so frustrated,and cursing doing personal attacks.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion...
when the vp candidates debate here is something to consider for Joe.

(after the preliminaries)...." in preparing for this debate, one of the things the so-called experts were concerned about is my appearing to bully my opponent. Taking advantage of her lack of experience as it were. Does anyone here tonight think that I could successfully bully Hillary Rodham Clinton.....or for that matter Barack Obama or even John Mccain. That is the standard Ms.Palin must meet."

I don't know about a problem, but I do know Senator McCain will pay craps for 14 hours straight.

Senator Obama prefers poker-- but not for 14 hours-- and apparently, has no "tell."

If we go ONLY by this parameter, we have yet another reason to elect Senator Obama-- a man without a "tell" is a great man to have at the head of the diplomatic table.

I just read your profile. When you type something like you just did, it is best to provide some sort of link, because I have no idea to what you refer, otherwise.

I do hope you have thought about single issue voting in this year when so much is at stake. That vote was a no-win for Senator Obama, and perhaps, you should consider that his "no" vote would have been absolutely meaningless. Senator Obama did not duck this vote, unlike Senator McCain who did.

All that I ask is that people THINK. Senator McCain will erode our liberties in the same manner as our current President-- he has now flip-flopped on Guantanamo and torture. We cannot trust him to give back the Imperial Presidency stolen in contravention to our Constitution by our current President. I did not used to think this-- I hoped that the GOP would nominate him-- but that was before numerous flip-flops which undermine the GREAT WRIT of Habeas Corpus (one of humankind's first recognized rights), torture and Guantanamo.

All that I ask is that everyone think on November 4, 2008. If you think that 4 years of Senator McCain will better this Country and restore our rights and liberties, vote for him. If you do NOT think that, though, please THINK about how a vote cast out of rancor because of one no-win vote cast by Senator Obama will cost our Country in blood, tears, economic decline, and in restricted liberty and freedom.

Again, all that I ask is that all of us THINK.
If we cannot do that one thing, if we let anger be our guide in the voting booth, we may all get to drown together in the boat built out of our rancor, instead of rising up together and beginning a NEW BRIGHTER DAY in America.

Urgent Matter of Attention with Respect to Access to, and Availability of, Sufficient Polling Stations / Booths / Hours for the 2008 Presidential Election Given the Obvious Surge in Voter Participation Expected in Districts with Historically Lower Voter Turnout

I am writing this message to bring attention to the issue of adequate polling access leading into the 2008 Presidential Election. We saw in 2000 tactics designed to limit access to and availability of adequate polling stations and booths that serve minority and or lower income populations in a variety of states around the country, resulting in people unable to make it to polling stations and people left waiting in line when polling stations closed without having the opportunity to vote.

I have been struck by the complete lack of coverage on this issue leading up to the 2008 Presidential Election. This year, more than any election in history, will result in election turnouts that are historically high in demographic areas that turnout historically has been low.

With 2 months remaining before the Presidential election, the time is now for election commissions around the country to address the issue of adequate polling resources for citizens to vote. The time is now for national media organizations to bring this issue to the spotlight.
The time is now for citizens around the country to make the necessary phone calls to their local election commissions and demand to know what accommodations have been made to allow citizens to vote in a reasonable amount of time and not loose the ability to vote due to long lines and inadequate polling resources.

I am encouraging citizens and news organizations to take up this issue with a passion. The failure to provide adequate polling infrastructure in all districts in the United States allowing all citizens the opportunity to vote could result in catastrophic circumstances and a complete loss of trust in the integrity of our election / political system in the United States.

We all have heard the expression, "When pigs fly." Regarding my family, I can definitely say that pigs are flying. My mother, who is over 60 and is a staunch diehard Hillary Clinton supporter, is actually going to vote for Obama in November. During the primaries she disliked Obama very much; she was anti-Obama. But when she saw the heart-felt speeches given by Hillary & Bill Clinton during the DNC, she was so touched. She has finally declared, "Now I’m for Obama." My mother is even persuading several of her relatives and friends to vote for Obama and has expressed her current dislike for his opponent.

Thank you Hillary & Bill Clinton for persuading my mother to vote for Barack Obama!

I've noticed elsewhere in the blogosphere that there is a fierce battle going on between the Palinistas and the Clintonistas.

The Clintonistas are furious that McCain could select a woman running mate who is so unqualified and somehow equate her with Hillary Clinton.

The Palinistas are socially conservative ideologues. In their view, what makes a candidate "qualified" is having the right ideology. They are actually arguing that Palin is MORE QUALIFIED than Hillary Clinton to be the president of the United States! As you may well imagine, this is not sitting well with the Clintonistas!

In fact, the Palinistas are not only arguing that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are less qualified to be president than Palin. They are also arguing that Joe Biden and even McCain himself are less qualified than Palin to be president of the United States! You heard that right - because Palin is more in line with their ideology than McCain himself, they actually believe that Palin is MORE QUALIFIED than McCain to be president - they are arguing that the ticket should be reversed!!

Governor Palin has been a Governor for less than 2 years, of a state with so many oil royalties that they have no state taxes and always have surpluses no matter how much they spend. Alaska has a population that is roughly the size of Boise, Idaho. There is no rust belt there. There are no major distribution hubs there. There is plenty of land, polar bears, caribou and a whole lot of wilderness.

Alaska is in many ways this Country 100 years ago-- I don't mean to suggest that Alaskans are behind the times, because they are not. I mean rather that Alaska's problems are this Country's problems 100 years ago.

Governor Palin has NO experience, executive or otherwise, dealing with budget short-falls, land/space constraints, manufacturing decline, or now almost every kind of job off-shoring.

Also, although this trait is not native to most Alaskans, Governor Palin has zero appreciation of science and even believes that "creationism" should be taught in science class, despite the fact that "creationism" cannot be subjected to scientific process and thereby, undermines the very backbone of scientific thought. Conversely, science is based on proof and teaching science together with religion also tends to undermine Faith. Science and faith are compatible, but not when taught in the same course.

Governor Palin also believes that climate change is NOT man-made, but rather caused by God. This is another severe departure from what science knows and has proven through detailed, specific, scientific tests and models based on proof.

Our current President's two tenures have been a mess; there is no doubt about it. Yet, I really don't think there is a comparison here. There are an enormous number of Texans and Texas encounters most of the problems faced by the rest of us. Alaska's population is very small and the problems it faces are not those faced by most of us. Governor Palin seems a very nice woman, and perhaps she would be a good Alaskan Governor-- right now, we don't have enough evidence to even prove that-- but accepting her as qualified to be President requires an ENORMOUS leap of Faith.

I have Faith in God-- I do not, however, employ Faith in mundane human affairs, like politics. Faith belongs to God, and the Kingdom of Heaven, not to any political party, or political candidate.

I suppose a lot of this has to do with her "family values"? Here is my take on that...

This woman's water broke a full month earlier than the baby was due with a high-risk pregnancy and a unborn disabled child and she saw fit after her water broke to still give a speech, take a 9 hour flight with a layover and then drive 50 miles to a further hospital risking infection or worse to her unborn child just so her child could be born in her hometown in Alaska.

She returned to work 3 days after she had the baby, not because she had to or couldn't afford the time off, but because she chose to put her work before her preemie disabled child. She then said that she would bring the child to work with her which would expose the newborn child to additional and unnecessary germs and infection risks.

Unless these people only view pro-life as the decision on whether or not to abort a child, this display certainly does not scream "family values" and more like a person who needs to get their priorities straight. If she lacks that type of judgement with a preemie disabled child, I do not want her anywhere near a position of making calls for this country.

And then when you contrast her story with the story that Michelle told of Barack driving her and Malia home from the hospital and Joe Biden having to be persuaded to take the Senate job after his wife and daughter's death and him being sworn in at the hospital by his son's beside and you tell me who has the real family values! THESE PEOPLE ARE HYPOCRITS and they need to take themselves off of their fake high-horse and instead of beating people over the head with the bible, actually crack it open and read it!

me too because i am trying to understand what qualifies her. so far her character seems really questionable with trooper-gate and, yes, baby-gate where she showed absolutely poor judgment. in trooper-gate, abusing power and, in baby-gate boarding a plane after "her water broke" and traveling 11 hours knowing the baby "she" was about to deliver was with down syndrome. selfish and serious lack of judgment. i don't trust her to pick up that 3am call. i still cannot believe this choice has made hillary look so much better than ever but still not better than obama to me, sorry hillary folks.

I knew this choice by Senator McCain was designed to try and put enthusiasm into the right-wing. This choice is well liked by right-wing radio and is probably welcomed by all who would like to see grey-haired men in Washington telling women everywhere in this Country how to live their own Faith.

I also thought it would backfire with Senator Clinton's supporters. This choice is insulting to Senator Clinton and women, in general. A relatively unknown Governor of a state with the population equivalent to Boise, Idaho, already bogged down by a scandal of her own making, whose sole public involvement was the PTA a mere 8 years ago, is no equivalent to Senator Clinton. The comparison is laughably insulting. What does Senator McCain think-- does he think women are stupid???? Right now, it certainly looks that way.

If ideological agreement is the sole parameter by which a person votes, then practicality and common sense have been thrown out the door. I do hope that Americans will NOT make such voting decisions this year, even though I know that some will. This is NOT the year to single-issue vote; there is simply too much at stake in this election.

This is the year to bring out our basic American common sense and use it in the voting booth. If we do that, I have no doubt that Senator Obama will be our next President and our future will be brighter for all of us.

since polls vary quite dramatically from event to event, my guess is gallup did an average of all (or a selected number) of their polls in the table shown. the real action is on nov 4 and what we do leading up to it.

I agree, Ohio puts the Obama/Biden ticket over the top with wins in the states John Kerry carried in 2004. In the end, Kerry had 252 electoral votes. Ohio alone is 20 electoral votes. Add that to the 252 and you are over 270. I have been tracking the electoral map for the last 4 months. Other key states are Virgina and Colorado. They are evenly contested right now. The other reason Ohio should be a win is because you democratic leadership in place already that could help the democratic ticket by getting out and campaigning hard! Ohioians for the Obama/Biden ticket, send notes to your Governor and Senator Bayh.

Knock on some doors,
Volunteer in the office in your area,
Register voters,
If you cannot find an event to do these things in your area, make your own--

The best thing WE can do right now for the Obama/Biden ticket is use our mouths and our fingers typing-- NEVER UNDERESTIMATE WORD OF MOUTH!

For the media-- send the reporter who aggravated you a note (letter, e-mail, or even call). Be polite, but firm-- remind them about the critical importance of a properly functioning Fourth Estate to our Nation (a wise quote from one of our founders about this is helpful, especially one from President Jefferson since there are so many).

Here is one:

"The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure."

Exhort the press to do their JOBS!

We can send stories to the press, but the most important thing we can do-- in my humble opinion-- is remind them that their profession is NOBLE, and of CRITICAL importance to our Country's liberties, freedoms and integrity. If we remind them of that, and call them to do their duty, many will respond and DO JUST THAT. After all, most of our press are Americans and they too love this Country, just like we do.

There have now been two full days of endless concentration on the Palin pick. We need to get back on track. We need to keep our focus on McCain, not Palin. It’s McCain who’s the risky choice in this election. He has consistently shown terrible judgment: on the mood of the nation, on what constitutes torture, on Iraq, on taxes and the economy...and now on who should be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Barack Obama selected one of the most qualified people available for the job of vice-president; John McCain picked one of the least qualified. Who really puts country ahead of politics?"

We need to take our cue from the campaign. "The Obama campaign has clearly decided to maintain the campaign against McCain for what it truly is: More of the same (no matter who McCain's V.P. choice is). We should minimize negativity on Palin like McCain minimized the Vice Presidency."

What is relevant is that Palin is the vice presidential pick of a man who has been in lock-step with George Bush 90% of the time and will continue along that path.

We need to continue to remind people of the failed policies and the mindset that have brought this country down over the past eight years and stress the Obama/Biden policies that will lift us up, put us on the right track and restore our standing in the world again.

On Friday, it was announced that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen to be Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s running mate. The 44-year-old Idaho-native claimed to be the mother of five children, the youngest of whom was diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome. Palin’s decision to have the baby was applauded by the pro-life community.

Here’s some new evidence that has come to light, proving Sarah Palin is not the mother of four-month-old Trig:

– On March 6th, Sarah announced she’s seven month pregnant. Even close members of her staff were surprised.

– Her water broke one month before Trig was due, but she kept a previous speaking engagement in Texas and then flew 8 hours to Alaska. No one on board noticed that Sarah was going into labor either. The flight lands in Anchorage, Alaska. Instead of visiting a medical facility that can accommodate a premature birth in Alaska’s most equipped city, she drives 45 minutes away to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, right outside the small village she used to govern as Mayor, Wasilla.

– On April 18, 2008, Trig was born one month premature. Sarah returned to work after three days. (Trig was diagnosed with Down’s syndrome while still in the womb.)

– Trig is not Sarah’s son, but grandson. It was her 16-year-old daughter Bristol (pictured right) who was carrying. (80% of the cases of Down’s Syndrome are in mothers under the age of 35.)

– Family had taken Bristol out of Anchorage High School due to contracting “infectious mononucleosis”. Reports say she was absent from school for five to eight months. Mono can last anywhere from two weeks to three months.

I was checking out some local Alaska blogs and people that claim to actually be from Wasilla or whatever it's called and claim to know her family and her husbands family are saying that the baby IS her baby,BUT, that her oldest daughter Bristol is pregnant NOW, and that she was pulled from school and has not been seen by any local people for months until Friday on that stage. She did have a baby blanket over her stomach the entire time, and if you look at the Times picture-I think it;s the Times- she has on a very loose dress, looks pregnant to me- Anyway thats what local people are saying. They say the local press and everyone already know about it but are hush hush. I guess we will find out soon enough. I'm sure Mcbush didn't know about this if it is true since he didn;t really vet her. It will all come out in the wash soon enough.

But the BIGGER story is the fact that Sarah came o"ut in her introduction speech and LIED about opposing the Bridge to Nowhere" Alaskans no this is a LIE and are exposing her!!!

Does anyone get the feeling that the MSM are actually out to undermine Obama. Perhaps, they just want a very close election so that they improve their ratings. I'll be the first to admit that at the begining of the race, Obama had a good shake with the media. However, ever since the paastor controversies when MSM realize that bad press for Obama means good ratings, MSM, especially NYT have done everything it can to undermine Obama. Case in point: take a look back preconvention when CNN rushed a quick poll that showed a tied race. The poll, itself, became the story when other polls showed essentially no change. Now postconvention gallop poll has Obama up by 8pts 2 days in a row even after the announcement of Palin and no one is mentioning this because they are hoping for bounce for Mccain which will be a "GAME CHANGER" ( A storyline already written an tucked away by the media for when it becomes a reality...Not)

The media has NOBODY in mind except for the FCC and it's CORPORATE SPONSORS. They make all of this fuss about the liberal media or the conservative media--but in the end, they have NOBODY in mind except for the people who are lining their pockets: corporate America.

Of course the Media is anti-Obama! Sure, they might talk about Obama alot (ahem, McCain--and the reason why is because THIS MAKES THEM MONEY! The problem is Obama exceeded the bounce that historically Dems got. The past showed a bounce of nor more than an average of 6.4%. Obama BEFORE the speech jumped to six then to eight points which he maintained even when McCain tried to steal the bounce with the announcement with Palin. So back to six after two furious days of all Palin all the time coverage is a win for our team. The McCain team tried to steal the bounce. It maintained above expectations and is still holding strong. Kerry actually lost a point and look how close the election was.

McCain has lost two of his big argurments. The first is that Obama is not experienced to be President. That goes out the window with the selection of Palin. They cannot make it with a straight face.

Secondly, this selection was clearly for political purposes. So he loses his "Country First" pitch as he clearly pandered to the extreme right who have no respect for women when Limbaugh calls Palin a "babe" and that is seen as okay. McCain was not energizing the right wing extreme part of his party who were willing to sit on the sidelines since there was no anti abortion, anti climate change, pro big oil person on the ticket that the right could own and manipulate. They got that with Palin. McCain caved in because he wants to win. Politics won out instead of what was best for the country. Says all one needs to know about McCain.

I just watched on CNN a McCains person pushing back on the arguement that Palin is inexperienced and not ready to lead; calling it sexist. SEXIST!!!???, my gosh is that why Mccain put her on the VP list, so that they can inject sexism into the race and use this as a shield. They have been saying Obama is inexperienced and not ready; even a celebrity for crying out loud!! The fact is, i am not sure how McCain ever thought that he made a wise choice. I'll tell you what Palin means to him--an object!!. Don't be shoched, he figured: OK Obama is young i need someone young; Obama will make history as an African American so i need an African American or a woman; no one can stand up to Joe Biden in a debate so let me throw this beautiful woman into the "lions den" and see her eaten alive and have feminists all pissed. We are now at a point in this campaign where we must be diligent in our actions to get our ticket to the White House.

Every time I look at the pictures of my children and grandchildren and then see McCain and his new running mate on TV i worry even more that America, being force fed the spin by the MSM, and start to wonder just what the affect it could have on those who do not take the time to educate themselves the way we do.

They come home and sit in front of their sets and hear Fox, CBS, ABC, CNN, NBC and MSNBC, while ignoring the real information givers such as CSPAN and PBS.

I realize how the truth is up to us to get out there.

We can of course continue to allow the MSM be the information givers or get out there and do what's necessary to get Obama?OBiden elected in November.

Not everyone will know which candidates are in fact for their best interests. There are the many who will succumb to the preachings of the MSM unless we are there to correct it.

Gustav is going to be at least a Cat 4 and will hit just to the west of NOLA!!! This is not good because those areas just to the east will be hardest hit.

The Republicans are being forced to shorten there Convention Bush and Cheney both will NOT attend and today McCain is flying to Miss. for photo ops.

Meanwhile the RNC and Convention organizer are planning to make their convention a service orientated event to raise money and collect blankets and clothing for those whose possesions are lost.

We know why .... But we must not give the appearence that only the Republicans are out front working while we show no concern. I hope the campaign will organize a very visable effort to help all those effected and the he and Joe will be omni present where it comes to ther well being and survival needs.

As for us pull out any old blankets and clothes you may have stored away, wash them tonight and have them ready to go first thing in the morning.

Lets also think of how we, as Obama supporters, cna organize to help these americans out.

If I hear one more "reporter" repeating the RNC talking points on TV, I am likely to PUKE. Let me recap... Here is the new "conventional wisdom" that I have heard over the past two days:

1. St. Maverick of McCain is reincarnated. Oh really? What about this choice is "mavericky" as opposed to potentially IMPULSIVE AND RECKLESS? We have lived through 8 years of Bush. Today's quote in today's New York Times by McCain is particularly scary:

At the very least, the process reflects Mr. McCain’s history of making fast, instinctive and sometimes risky decisions. “I make them as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can,” Mr. McCain wrote, with his top adviser Mark Salter, in his 2002 book, “Worth the Fighting For.” “Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint.”

Where are your stories about McCain's JUDGEMENT AND TEMPERMENT? He lives with the consequences without complaint? My Family cannot afford to live with the consequences of this selection without COMPLAINT.

How about St. Desperate of McCain? How about St. Cynical of McCain? Is anyone going to point out how potentially troubling it is to have a presidential candidate select someone he met TWICE as his running mate? Then this morning on Fox News, he called her his SOUL MATE. Echoes of Putin and Bush ANYONE. COME ON!

2. Apparently McCain was pushed by the Religious Right and Conservatives from picking Joe Lieberman. What does this say about what else he would be influenced by them to do? McCain caved into the Religious Right -- a group that he once called the "agents of intolerance." Now he is a wholly owned subsidiary of James Dobson. Where are your stories about that?

3. Why the uncritical regurgitation of Ms. Palin as a "reformer" and a "maverick" herself? She has been the governor of Alaska for LESS than TWO YEARS. Two of her own local papers say that she is not fit for this VP job. What are the concrete "reforms" that she has made or are we just supposed to take McCain's word on this?

4. Three times now, on Fox News and this morning on this week Cindy McCain told us that Sarah Palin has foreign policy experience because Alaska is near RUSSIA. First of all that it patently

The question of experience keeps coming up and amazingly, there are those that are saying that the republican VP nominee has more experience than Senator Obama. I find that amusing.

I don’t understand why Obama’s experience seems to focus only on his years as a US Senator. He has other experiences that, while not tied directly to Washington politics, are still relevant to what is needed to be POTUS.

His experience as a community organizer makes him very aware of the needs of the working class and the problems in our communities, especially urban cities.

His experience as a constitutional law professor shows that he has the knowledge regarding the laws of our government and the rights of US citizens.

He was in the Illinois State Senate prior to becoming a US Senator which gives him legislative experience. He knows how to negotiate and work across party lines.

His experience in running for office, especially for POTUS, has definitely added to his executive experience. He knows how to organize, he knows how to manage, and he knows how to motivate. His has undeniably been the best run campaign this election season.

His recent trip to the Middle East and Europe and speaking with various world leaders shows that he knows how to be diplomatic and knows what is needed to get the US back into a positive standing in the world.

Graduating at the top of his class shows his intelligence. He can take information and come to a rational conclusion. His judgement about Iraq is an example.

He has shown that he will listen and is not afraid of criticism and opposite viewpoints. Thus his selection of Joe Biden as his VP. He is not close-minded. Why have knowledgeable people around you if you’re never going to listen to them?

WALLACE: You’re not suggesting he did want to torture prisoners.

McCAIN: Well, waterboarding to me is torture, OK? And waterboarding was advocated by the administration and, according to published reports, was used. But the point is, we’ve had our disagreements.

Getting Democrats registered to vote is an effort that can help deliver victory for us in November.

Please encourage people to visit the new VOTE FOR CHANGE website Link
At this site people will be able to: find out if they are registered to vote; get registered to vote; apply to vote absentee; plus find early vote locations.

You can hand out slips of paper to people printed with the VOTE FOR CHANGE web address. Or you can find voter registration forms to print out for each state at the Board of Elections links below. You’ll also find contact information at these sites so you can call and ask about voter registration requirements.

Registering someone can be a pretty quick and simple process. It literally takes me about two minutes to get a registration form completed. The Fall '08 College semester HAS ALREADY STARTED IN MANY STATES. Please email to EVERYONE in your address book and ask them to do the same.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: College students

We must remind all college students that IF they are away from home attending college on election day, they must be registered to vote at THEIR LEGAL RESIDENCES.

If they are still registered at home, THEY MUST OBTAIN an absentee ballot and mail it EARLY to their home state. A first class stamp is required.

IF THEY NOW LEGALLY RESIDE IN THE STATE OF THEIR COLLEGE, they have to change their voter registration to their current address (away at college) BY FILLING OUT A NEW VOTER REGISTRATION APPLICATION and *** RENEWING THEIR DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH THEIR NEW ADDRESS.

***Driver's License ADDRESS changes, in SOME states, MAY not be necessary. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR INDIVIDUAL STATE.

Many college students wait until the last minute to make the necessary changes and consequently are unable to vote.

Please pass this along to all college age students.

Hello - watching the live feed, admiring all the nice blue hues on the site. Wondering if there is a forum or message board of some kind?

Reason being that I live in Canada right now, will be going back to the States to vote, but would really like to see Obama in person before then (either in New York state, or in Wisconsin where I will be voting) and need a little heads up to make trip plans. So far I have not found the calendar very helpful and have only just found out that Obama will be in Milwaukee but its too short of notice.

OMG Clarissa - I was thinking the exact same thing this morning as I watched. TOM BROKAW YOU ARE NO TIM RUSSERT! Tim would never have let Pawlenty get away with some of the insane statements he made this morning. I was yelling at my TV this morning, asking myself, where or where is our working class hero? Why did Tim have to leave us?

I used to like Brokaw, but he proved to me this morning that he's enjoying semi-retirement. And don't even get me started on David Gregory - his comment about how "cool" it was that Palin got on a plane while in labor was just too much for me to take.

Melita Sunjic, spokeswoman for the U.N. High Commissioner of Refugees in Georgia, said that although it was not clear if Russian soldiers were actually preventing refugees from returning, the warnings by the troops effectively block them.

Everyone please take this very seriously. I voted in the Dem primary of Ohio and I was on the rolls here in my district but when I followed this link to the Secretary of State's website they did not have me or my wife listed on the state's rolls. My concern is that if we are not on the state's voting rolls and my local registrars decide to dumb their rolls and opt for the state rolls during the election then my wife and I and many newly registered voters won't be listed. I'm contacting my SoS office in the am to try and fix the problem. I also forwarded this info to everyone in my address book because we all know the republicans plan to try and suppress voters this fall and if we do not take action now many people will have to cast provisional ballots and we now from history that the courts are not on our side. We have to make sure our first ballots are counted this Nov.

Today on Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) why he has voted 17 times against raising the federal minimum wage. (Wallace later corrected himself and pointed out it was 19 times, to which McCain dismissively replied, “Well, or 29 or 49, whatever it is.”) McCain initially attempted to wriggle out of answering by talking about tax cuts.

But when pressed again by Wallace, McCain claimed that he opposed the increases only because they were attached to unrelated spending bills:

McCAIN: I’m for the minimum wage increases when they are not attached to other big-spending pork barrel. The practice in Washington is attach a good thing to a bad thing. And that way, then you have to vote yes or no. […]

When I’m president, I’m going to veto every bill that doesn’t have straight up or down votes on the issues that are important to the American people. … The fact is that I am for a living wage for all Americans.

There is a lot of talk about how Sarah Palin will attract Hillary's woman. One thing people need to understand is that people vote on the issues first and race/relegion/gender second. The reason so many democratic women voted for Hillary is because there were no whole lot of policy difference between Sen.Clinton and Sen. Obama so they went for the woman. If Hillary clinton was pro-life, pro-gun, creationist, Pat Buchanan supporting right wing nut, I have no doubt those same woman would have voted for Sen. Obama in record numbers.

Lets face it, Sarah Palin even apposes equal pay for equal work. Infact any vote for her and McBush is a vote against women.

Senator Obama and his surrogates have to be far more aggressive and detailed in exposing John McCain's VP selection as a purely political decision.

The MSM has decided to give McCain a pass. The media loves identity politics, so they couldn't be more thrilled that John McCain decided to reverse course from his experience argument to effectively saying, "never mind! A female quota is more important than the security of this country."

I wish more Americans and pundits would take their partisan or political hats off and judge this from a purely executive decision, but they won't. The choice of VP is NOT supposed to be a political decision, but a rational, thoughtful and sober executive decision. Again, taking off partisan and political hats, how can any reasonable and objective person say this was not a political decision by John McCain?

It's easy to forget that American soldiers are fighting abroad in two wars; Al Qaeda and the Taliban are resurgent on the Afghanistan and Pakistan border (a fragile nuclear armed country); recent Russian aggression against one of our allies and Iran in purusit of a nuclear weapon that threatens our staunchest ally, Israel, but a President can NEVER forget or put aside these threats. Putting this in historical context, 1 in 3 Presidents have died in office. Given these real and immediate threats to our country and our allies, not only can there not be a vacum between the presidency and the vice presidency there can not be an air bubble. Our enemies and those who would do us harm would take advantage if given the opportunity.

Thus, Senator Obama had to make his decision not based on demographics, region or particular states, but the interest of the country as a whole. No one can challenge that Joe Biden is 100% prepared to assume the presidency in a split second and take capable command of our military and government. The decision was based on competency not identity or geography. Some may not like the decision but Senator Obama can only ask that they respect it because it was made in the interest of all Americans not just a few.

At a time when more new and undecided people are coming to this site, we are not doing a very good job of representing Senator Obama's campaign. After Obama's awesome speech on Thursday and McCain's VP pick, more people than ever before are taking a second look, and what do they see?

The posts on this blog over the past 3 days have been filled with childish, petty, garbage. Instead of focusing on issues, there have been thousands of posts about Sarah Palin's pictures in Vogue, her hair style, her shoes, her voice, her children's names, baby rumors, what she eats and on and on and on. This is exactly what the republicans tried to do to Obama with the arugla, flag-pin crap, and it didn't work.

We have got to focus on the issues. Many people may believe that Palin supports women's issues just because she is a women. We have to set them straight.

1) She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.

2) Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

3) She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.

4) Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.

5) She doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.

6) She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.

Let's fight hard to show everyone reading these blogs why Obama is the ONLY choice in this election.

There is but one significant fact about this pick that can be shared loudly and strongly by the Obama campaign, which can be uttered by anyone without fear of backlash from anyone because is jst a fact.

Sarah Palin is an arch social conservative: abortion, stem cells, global warming, creationism, book censorship, and BIRTH CONTROL.

Sounds like Bush.

The object here is to push independents away. McCain thinks this will bring them back, because it shows he is a 'maverick'. My mom who was originally for McCain, just said it shows her he is was more conservative than she thought. She is a fiscal conservative, social moderate. These people live in the suburbs and WILL decide the election.

McCain did not ask what he can do for his country in his VP pick. As a 72 years old man, McBush should have known better than anyone that his VP pick should be able to head the most powerful country in the world. He should have thought real hard and selected the VP with care. Instead McCain asked who can help him win over the extreme right! He of course was shopping for charisma and someone who would appeal to Clinton supporters. He then gambled on the American people. That is incredible. Does he care about the country at all?

While I agree that we should focus on McBush and his policies, let's also point out the fact that McCain’s VP selection shows his lack of judgment. McCain is unable to think through on the issues of importance to the nation. It seems that he selected the VP candidate that the last advisor he talked to recommended.

By the way, McCain, women are not stupid. We don’t vote because someone is a woman irrespective of her policies.

On another note, is McCain obsessed with beauty queens? His first wife was beauty queen. She waited for him while he was prisoner. After her accident, he cheated on her and left her for another beauty queen. His current wife, Cindy McCain was not only a beauty queen but heiress, with the connection. She propelled and funded his political ambitions. He humiliated Cindy by calling her “c*nt” in public. Now he turns to charismatic beauty queen of the far right for VP. I don’t think Clinton supporters will fall for his VP pick. McCain does not respect woman period. He uses woman.

Palin endorses shooting wolves from the air and doesn't think polar bears should be designated as endangered. She scares me as much or more than McCain.

Someone did point out on another blog that the speed that her nomination came with after Obama's speech meant that the talking heads weren't able to tear him and his speech apart like they would have.

I am very encouraged today. I finally was able to crack open my copy of The Economist (British equivalent of Time/Newsweek but written for highschool graduates instead of third graders!).

McCain was on the cover. It went to press before Obama's big speech and before Palin's selection as VP.

THe leader article is very interesting. McCain just did everything the Economist said he shouldn't do if he wants to get elected.

It says McCain needs to quit pandering to the Right wing evangelicals or it will alienate moderate Republicans and independents. THey also said his VP pick, more than Obama's is critical because of his age.

Now the Economist always thinks it has the answer to the worlds problems and can be a tad patronising with its advice but I was HIGHLY amused to see that McCain's choice of Pailin is exactly what he shouldn't have done.

The article condlues, "Hawkish foreign policy, irresponsible tax cuts, more talk about religion and abortion: all this sounds too much like Bush Three, the label the Democrats are trying to hang around the Repubican's neck. We preferred McCain One."

So Yay! The Economist tends to be more pro-McCain because they prefer Republican economic policies like free trade I think, so I can't wait to see what they say about his choice of Palin!

I love the way Biden steps in and reinforces some of Barack's answers. Biden answers are a bit more down to the audience level.

I am so please with this duo.

Yes I was just thinking the same thing. They are so great together and Michell and Jill look so comfortable with one another too. Joe Biden is the "average" Joe and he has that appeal to the blue collar workers. He compliments Barack very well. They are funny because I don't think they quite know how to address Palin yet. They did a wonderful job.

I've posted previously on the benefits of splitting up Obama and Biden to campaign solo, mainly to force McCain to put Palin out on her own.

However I definitely concede that Obama AND Biden together make a great pair. Given that McCain didn't have Palin anywhere around today at his political speech to delay the republican convention I don't think we have to split up Obama and Biden at this point.

By keeping them together while Palin is AWOL from McCain, we can highlight the "where's Palin hiding?" theme without saying a word. This may force McCain to bring her out. And since Biden is engaging we get the bonus of showing how McCain operates solo or how little Palin could contribute.

I'm thinking we now keep Obama and Biden together a bit longer before splitting them up. I know there were previously scheduled to split for awhile, but on seeing and hearing how people are responding, and McCain's response (aka lack of) I've changed my mind.

Since "The first casualty of war is the battle plan." we should adjust (not scrap) our previous plan given these results.

Anyway, yes, Obama AND Biden together on the stump are awesome.

Obama and Biden are great together. Barack is intelligent and scholaryly and Biden is no nosense and straight to the point. I love all of Biden's little quotes and sayings. They really feed off of each well. How cool that Barack knew exactly the book that the person wanted to give him at the rally. Wow a President who reads!

I just cannot get enough of listening to Barack and Joe talking common sense. They are quite a team and make so darn much sense.

The Democratic ticket is the party of the people.

I totally agree! Barack Obama certainly used his judgment, his intelligence, and his determination to meet the needs of Americans when he is intellected, when he chose Joe Biden for his VP! Like you, I just love to hear them on the stump! And BOTH have knowledge that could NEVER COMPARE to McCain! It is an AWESOME TICKET! WE WILL WIN THIS ELECTION!
