Live from Austin: During Barack's 2004 Democratic National Convention speech, he spent the first part telling the audience about himself. He told his story. And he continues to tell his story wherever he goes on the campaign trail. He does this because telling our personal story not only can motivate ourselves, but volunteers and the public that we encounter. Through this story we experience the values that call us to act, the urgency of our cause and why we need to act now.
As part of the opening session of today's Camp Obama, one by one attendees shared their stories and why they support Barack.
Sam was born in Fort Worth, Texas to a single parent. He grew up in a home with 11 other family members, none of which had a high school degree. Sam decided at an early age to work hard so that he could educate himself. He graduated from high school and put himself through college, becoming the first in his family to hold a college degree. After college, Sam moved to Austin and now runs a small non-profit organization. He has spent his life working hard to provide for himself.
I support Barack Obama because he knows what is it like to work hard, and he respects those who spend their life working to provide for their families. He wants to empower others to do great things.
Tell us your story and why you are voting for Barack.
