Last night, Minnesotans held over 100 Convention Watch Parties across the state, bringing neighbors together to watch as Barack Obama made history as he accepted the Democratic nomination for president.
Here's how Mimi Asnes, a field organizer for the Campaign for Change on the Iron Range, described a watch party in Chisholm:
About 30 people stopped by the Steelworker’s Minnesota for Change watch parties at Sleeve’s Sportsman’s Bar in Eveleth and Tom and Jerry’s in Chisholm. The bars provided free food and instead of airing the usual sportscast, all eyes were on the convention.Rep. Tom Rukavina, Sen. Dave Tomassoni and labor organizer Ed Puztel greeted locals, handed out yard signs and pins and signed up volunteers for the campaign. The mood was jubilant but intense: “This election is really important for our future here and abroad” said local business owner Vasso Papaioannou of Hibbing.
