'Once onstage, together with Arizona Gov. "People need to get good and mad about the greed and incompetence - and in some cases outright fraud - that still hamper our ability to hold a fair vote. One good place to start is with the process by which private voting machine companies are selected.
"Lobbying is a big part of the problem, [not only] here in New York State, but all around the country," Lipari told me. "The voting machine vendors saw a big, big pile of cash from the HAVA, and moved in on all the states."
In some cases, insider deals rather than the quality of the machines determines which company lands lucrative contracts.
Defective machines aren't the only problem. Last month, a report by the Brennan Center at NYU Law School described how confusing instructions and ballot design can cause voters to accidentally cast ballots for the wrong candidate.
"Year in and year out, we see the same mistakes in ballot design, with the same results," the report says, "raising serious questions about whether the intended choice of the voters was certified as the winner."
The Brennan Center recommends that election boards consult professional designers and borrow from a list of the nation's clearest and most user-friendly ballots - and that they perform extensive testing to make sure people can read, understand and use the ballots easily.
Good idea - but we need more than just ideas.
We need a noisy national movement to monitor and challenge faulty election machines and procedures early and often.
Democracy demands no less. "

Aug. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama's speech last night left Janell Mader, a 32-year-old lifelong Republican, ``a little overwhelmed'' -- and likely to vote for him in November.
``All of the concerns or questions that I had have been answered,'' Mader, a homemaker from York, Pennsylvania, said of Illinois Senator Obama, 47, the Democratic presidential candidate. ``John McCain's going to have to do something pretty incredible next week for me to be convinced that the Republican Party deserves another four years.''
Mader was one of a dozen undecided voters from across the U.S. who discussed their impressions both before and immediately after Obama accepted his party's nomination at Invesco Field in Denver on the closing night of the Democratic National Convention.
Some of these persuadable voters had been leaning toward Obama and others were leaning toward the Republican candidate, Arizona Senator McCain, 72. Many said they were impressed by the address. While some of the voters said the first part of Obama's speech was short on specifics, he ultimately allayed their concerns, and most had a positive view of the convention.
...
Many Democrats responded to the convention in the same way as Rodney Mattingly, a 56-year-old health-department worker from Lebanon, Kentucky, who is a self-proclaimed diehard Clinton supporter.
Prior to the speeches by the New York senator Aug. 26, and by her husband, former President Bill Clinton, the following night, Mattingly said his support for Obama would be determined by ``how the respect is given to Clinton'' at the convention.
After the speeches, in which both Clintons threw their support behind the nominee, Mattingly decided to vote for Obama.
``It's a combination of what Hillary said and what Bill said, and I think Obama's team has given them a lot of respect during this convention so, yes, I'm going to be in that camp now,'' Mattingly said.

Well according to FOX news.. she governs Alaska and well, gosh Alaska is right next door to Russia, lol.. not kidding. She should be able to kick Joe's ass - no prob, lol.
Okay, I'm suddenly no longer fearful. Yeah she's going to appeal to some of the rightwing with her creationism, anti gay, prolife, progun bs.. and her pro-union may appeal to a few others, her religious right stances may help mcdumb pull in some evangelicals that may have stayed home, but surely EVEN The religious right cares about having this total lack of experience a breath from the prez?? They aren't that stupid, right? Oops yeah, because Russia is right next to Alaska.. thats fp exp. lol

So what he picked a woman.
He picked a very inexperienced woman.
He still is running the same tired old Republican platform.
They are trying to say it's now a historical pick, well, not really, they are forgetting Geraldine Ferraro.

You know the Press:
- Women are going to flock to McCain.
- Can't miss out on a chance to make history.
- Those disaffected Clinton voter now have somewhere to go
- McCain is brillant
- Today Obama is irrelevant
Blah, Blah, Blah
But, I've been also reading the blog comments on Washington post and NY Times. A good number of women are offended by the obvious pandering of this pick. And many of those that were firmly in CLinton's camp see this as an insult to Sen. Clinton.
I say, let them have their hype. Let's see what happens when (if) she's asked about doing more than helping McCain's campaign. How can we help govern.
I personally think that this will backfire if we play it right. This is the opportunity we've been waiting for to retake the national Security mantle. A person with NO Foreign Policy experience a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Can she handle the diplomacy requirements of the job? Who's the SCARY choice now?

1. Register voters - Please be aware of all the rules and regulations when registering voters.
2. Canvass - Contact your local Obama office or your local democratic party office to see how you can volunteer to canvass neighborhoods or use your Neighbor to Neighbor toolbar on your dashboard.
3. Make phone calls - You can call Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado. Be aware of their voting rules as well. Express party Unity. The campaign is need of those who speak fluent Spanish to make calls and register voters. If you know of anyone who can and are willing to help, have them sign up here and volunteer. Here's the link to the phonemap:
Link
If you are not comfortable making calls, find a blogger who will make them for you for a small donation to the FR pages.
4. Host an event - These are great events for undecideds and republicans turned Obamacans. With the convention coming up, this is a great way to celebrate history and make new friends.
5. Don't forget to fight the email smears with our site fightthesmears.com, snopes.com and factcheck.org. These are great debunking sites.
6. Don't forget to email MSM. This email campaign has worked wonders.
7. If you answered yes to most of the above suggestions, keep up the good work. If you answered no to some, I have laid out some of the things you can do to help in your own community.
8. Take November 4th off. Volunteer to be a precinct captain or poll watcher. If you are an attorney or know someone who is an Obama supporter, please have them sign up. Here's the link for the attorney's.

Oh - and a ex-beauty queen You sure do like those pretty women... but only if they for giving you power. You couldn't care less about any woman except maybe your mighty rich wife.
Fine if that's the way you want it - thanks for the birthday gift you old man. If feel sort of sorr for Gov. Palin - in a way - because you are using her ONLY for her gender and you have insulted many many strong women. I can't wait for Hillary to get going on this... and, yes, Joe Biden is imminently more qualified to be Vice President or President if need be.... than Gov. Palin. You are using her and you know it.
Thanks for the b'day present, you old coot!

Since the firing of former Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, controversy has enveloped the Palin administration. Speculation over the incident has led many to the conclusion that the matter may be personal, and may involve the Palin family.
Unnamed sources have suggested that Palin fired Monegan because the commissioner was unwilling to fire State Trooper Michael Wooten, the ex-husband of Palin's sister. According to the governor, that is absolutely not the case.
At a Public Safety Employees Association press conference on Thursday, the union said that it would continue to support Wooten. Although Wooten was not present at the proceedings, he has reportedly asked the public to read his investigative papers and judge the matter for themselves.
Included in the packet issued by Wooten is a letter written by the governor. In the letter Palin suggests that many consider Wooten a ticking time-bomb. She goes on to implicate the trooper in several unethical instances, from abusing his then wife and shooting a taser gun at his 11-year-old boy, to threatening the life of his wife's father.
Palin maintains that her claims that several of her family members were threatened by Wooten have not played a role in Monegan's firing.
Now the administration, which continues to back Charles "Chuck" Kopp, is coming into conflict with the union that supports Wooten.
The governor explained her decision to appoint Kopp, "There was nothing to those allegations and we did look into that and are very confident that the allegations were unfounded and we didn't hesitant to appoint him as D-P-S commissioner."
Union leader John Cyr defended Wooten, "I don't paint a picture here that Mike is necessarily without some blemish but I think that clearly he has had more than his share of problems here over this."
Stirring the pot of controversy, Andrew Halcro issued a post on his blog which listed several reasons the blogger believed to be the cause of Monegan's firing. According to the blog, the Palin and Heath families deployed a series of bullying tactics, to dissuade Wooten from pursing child custody.
Halcro also makes specific mention of a warning given by Monegan pertaining to future problems that "shouldn't be ignored," including the state's rural economy, which is being affected by a poor fishing season.

CONT'D PART II
Setting aside all this speculation, one question still remains. Why was Walt Monegan fired via an intermediary while the governor was at a meeting in Philadelphia?
It is the job of the Chief of Staff to be "informed and prepared" for changes that are expected to come, said the governor. Although she has expressed disappointment with Monegan's turning down the demotion offered by the administration, she did state the Public Safety Commissioner position needed new "energy."
Palin said she wants to fill vacant trooper posts, while increasing the department's budget.
