Hey everyone,
I'm planning to create some "Runners for Obama" t-shirts for those who are interested. Julie and I are still working on a concept. Any ideas are welcome. We're just looking to do something fun and catchy on the front with the logo small on the back. Right now we are evaluating our options to figure out what is most cost-efficient for everyone and working on a few designs.
I'll keep y'all posted!
love, amanda

for starting the group and working on the shirts.
My 2 cents worth on the shirts. One idea would be a running-related message on the shirt. Maybe something along the lines of "Running for Unity, Running for Obama." Or maybe the message could be tied to preventive health care. "Move for better health. Movement for better America. Obama '08" or something about "health care reform starts here." Sorry, this is not very good, but I hope you get the idea where I'm trying to go. I do think it would be good to have decent-size text and/or logo on both front and back. When you are running (or doing other stuff), people often see your back.
If you get the shirts done, I'll buy one (size men's L).

Tommi,
I think that is a wonderful idea!!! I've had some sort of "creative block" that you just remedied. I'm definitely going to use your ideas some how. Thanks so much!
No dates planned yet for when these will be done; certainly the sooner, the better. I'm on vacation till next week, but will get cracking when I'm home!

Amanda,
On another issue. I posted a couple of upcoming Des Moines runs under "events," but they didn't show up under this group's events. When I was posting the runs, there was an asterisk by this group. The events showed up on the other groups I posted them on. Do you somehow need to approve events for this group or is the ability to post limited to the administrator? Just wondering.

Yes, the account is set up so that I have to approve events, which I really need to change. But anyway, your events are now posted, so thank you SO much for sharing them with us! And I apologize for the delay -- I'm currently on vacation. Please keep posting events as often as you like in order to keep our site up-to-date.

Thanks for posting the events. You are not that far from Iowa, so maybe you should consider entering the Des Moines Marathon/Half-Marathon on October 21?

Yes! I am not far from Iowa at all. I actually run the Quad Cities Bix 7 every year with my dad. It's fantastic race. I will have to miss the Des Moines marathon though because Oct. 21 is my birthday, and I'll be celebrating on the other side of the country. I am also not exactly in marathon shape and haven't even ran a full marathon since 2004! But if I weren't going to be out of town, then I would certainly come to cheer though!

Run for Hope - Obama '08 |

How about Run for Hope - Obama '08?
I was really impressed by the Run Against Bush campaign in Washington DC in 2004. The t-shirts definitely caught people's attention and the runners involved spent a lot of time talking to people who took notice - on both party sides. I would love to organize something in my area, and I think it would be great if there were shirts to create a sense of cohesiveness and mass that people would notice.
