Today I got to be a "triking" Obama ad complete with my new black "Obama Mama" t-shirt! What does that mean?!! Let me explain....
I have a mild gait/balance disorder & need a few accommodative measures from time to time. I'm doing better than in the past though. After working hard re: physical therapy, exercise, yoga, eating-super-healthy, etc. - I no longer need my fold-down-seat walker or scooter & can walk unassisted again. YAY!
But, I still can't handle a 'normal' bike. So - I got a deal on an adult three-wheel "trike" bicycle - and, I highly recommend them! Mine has a superb built-in, deep, back basket between the back two wheels. It's the perfect size to hold my kitty-cat's soft carrier - bungee'd down for safety, of course. My kitty-girl is brave and adventurous and loves to go for "trike" rides!
You can see my blind/rescue kitty-girl Pepita [pre primaries, wrestling some sense into a blue 2008 Democratic Donkey stuffed toy] on the Cats for Obama website:

She obviously succeeded in her fight for the Obama nomination!!! ;)
So - back to today: I put Pepita's harness & leash on her, put the disposable 'puppy-pad' down over the fake-fur pad on the bottom of her soft-carrier [not that she needed it], and then tucked her into her carrier & bungee'd it into my "trike" basket. Then I put on my helmet, and off we went on our local hiking/biking "Greenway" path, to a local pet-supplies store. It was a lovely Summer day; we had our water and other necessities; and - I had on my Obama shirt!! I got SO many smiles and waves from folks coming the other way, on the Greenway!
And when I got to the mini-mall where the pet-supply store was, I got even more smiles for the t-shirt! I don't think it hurt that a skinny 'mature' lady with a really long silver-grey ponytail and a bike helmet, on an adult trike with a kitty-carrier in the back, was advertising our candidate. Definitely an ad for a "green" lifestyle - it's a bit of hard work to make a one-speed 'trike' get where you're going on a warm day - but well worth it.
It gave me an extra buzz of energy knowing that everywhere I was "triking" I was advertising our Barack Obama - and his dedication to "greening" our economy.
So - in sum, I highly recommend adult triking, biking, and/or hiking a la Obama - sporting Obama t-shirts. Try it yourself!!!!! And, if you've got a kitty who enjoys accompanying you and doing so safely and comfortably, be sure to take her/him along for the 'ride.' You might even do me one better & remember to take a photo of your kitty-cat for your Obama blog! And don't forget pix for the Cats for Obama website!
Never let it be said that doggies aren't fired up for Obama too. Check out this Flickr site:

And I can never get enough of the Brit-accented parrot for Obama making the rounds on YouTube [first saw this devoted feathered campaigner on BBConline]:

Don't you think that brilliant birdie should be one of the nominators at the Democratic Convention in Denver?!!
Alright - my point being: there are many ways that you & your fave critter/s can campaign for Obama - on two legs, four legs, on wings, on bikes - and on "trikes!"
LOVE "TRIKING FOR OBAMA" IN MY NEW "OBAMA MAMA" T-SHIRT! :)
