In a display of his commitment to spreading the message of equal rights for all, Senator Obama has taken out full-page ads in several LGBT newspapers in Texas and Ohio.

The ad, which will be featured in Outlook Weekly in Columbus, the Gay People's Chronicle in Cleveland, The Dallas Voice, and OutSmart in Houston.

Glad to hear this | Report to Admin

I am glad, as a heterosexual and registered Republican, to hear that Obama has the sense to call on these special communities to join in supporting him. Of course, each has its special concerns, and the agendas of Americans -all of them, include concerns for health, social services, infrastructure, environmental protection, defense at home and abroad, etc., ie: These are not issues on which persons of distinct sexual persuasions differ. The marginalization of specific groups, which was broken down some years ago, has re-appeared and increased: it's time someone faced the rollback our society has had in its attitudes towards these groups, and to face it squarely, without fear. It's not a bad start to reach out, specifically. As I see it, another level of (1) refusing to abide by past prejudices, and (2) an expression of respect and inquiry.
