This afternoon at the Matthew J. Perry Federal Courthouse in Columbia, several prominent lawyers declared their support for Barack Obama.

Richland County Democratic Party Chairman Steve Benjamin announced his support for Senator Obama and discussed how Barack is the embodiment of the servant lawyer, foregoing riches to serve his fellow man.

Barack Obama is a man of law whose leadership reflects the traditions of lawyers who have helped deliver justice to the disenfranchised and give a voice to those who have often been neglected by our society.

Representing the Young Lawyers for Barack Obama, Graham Newman discussed how Senator Obama is the embodiment of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Dream".

Senator Obama is judged based on the content of his massage rather than the content of his skin.

Newman also emphasized the urgancy for young people to vote reminding those that are 17 are eligible to vote as long as their birthday's fall before the November 2008 election. The deadline to register in South Carolina is December 26. Click here to register.

City Councilwoman Tameika Issac Devine talked about the injustices that were exposed following the events in Jena, Louisiana. She explained how as president, Barack Obama will take steps to insure that our justice system works for everyone no matter where you live, where you come from, your race, age or socioeconomic background.

Finally, attorney Bill Nettles spoke out on Senator Obama's background as a professor of Constitutional Law in Chicago. He described Barack as the candidate with the strongest commitment to the rule of law; a candidate who is concerned with the abuses to the Constitution by the current administration and a president who will close Guantanamo Bay, secret prisons, and restore the Writ of Habeas Corpus.
