Thanks, these made me smile. What a beautiful day in South Carolina. I heard on TV that Stephen Colbert filed his papers
today as a Democrat. I wonder if he'll a) follow through with
it and b) whether it will affect the outcome at all, considering
Obama's appeal in the 20-something age group (which happens
to be Colbert's also).

Hi: While I love Stephen Colbert, I have been unhappy with his decision to pursue having his name on the SC ballot. I read this evening that there are criteria that must be met in order to be on the ballot. In additon to the $2500 fee and the petition signatures, the candidate has to be deemed "viable" and approved by South Carolina. Apparently, it costs them $50,000 when someone is approved to be on the ballot. Someone from the agency that has to approve everyone was quoted as saying that there is no way that Stephen Colbert will be on the ballot, as he is not deemed "viable" since he's only running in SC.

Hopefully, there won't be a "write-in" contingent.

Yes, there will be a write-in contingency, and unless Colbert comes out and SERIOUSLY denounces his bid (not some spoof over it) he will get write-ins, even if Dorito's donors don't get him on the ballot. It's silly and great fun, up until the point where it starts to impact real politics. He knows he's affecting the Obama base, and as a media man and a Dartmouth educated person, we can trust that he understands the potential danger he poses and will find a way to conclusively discourage write-ins; if not, you can log in and join the site at Link (www. comedycentral. com) and then post to Link
I actually found this VERY difficult to get to, but it's in the message board section, then way in the lower right corner under Help/FAQs then under ABOUT COMEDY CENTRAL'S PROGRAMMING, last link if I still have questions, then questions and comments about programming. Wow, I'm TIRED! lol

PS; the Daily Democrat, a Southeast Iowa paper, probably based off an AP wire story, but don't know, my mom just told me...indicates that HRC had a meltdown last night, and the other candidates all came out stronger for it, and that they 'let her have it' for her dodging questions and changing her answers. The story reportedly (and I trust Mom!) indicated a falling of the princess.

Hey Sharon,
I love Colbert too. What is interesting here is
how he really is 2 people. A democrat on the inside and a republican on the outside.
Considering his public persona, it's intereseting that he's running as a democrat.
He should REALLY take a tip from Ron Paul who is
taking away democratic votes left and right as
a republican, so everyone spread the word that
Ron Paul is going to take some votes away from
Barak in NH, let's be prepared and reach out to
Ron Paul voters!

Hate to tell you Noah, but if Ron Paul were a Dem he'd be in the tier with Kucinich and Gravel. He's only special now because he's a republican. But we welcome all in this movement. By the way, he won't be taking Barack voters. Barrack may not get all of his voters ie disgruntled and anti war republicans. IMO

Hi Noah:
Colbert is not attempting to run on the Republican ticket in SC because the fee is $35,000.

Last night he challenged Senator Obama to a "Grit Off". This following Senator Obama's joke at the MTV event (Coe College) that he didn't imagine Colbert having ever eaten grits (challenging his claim of SC's favorite son).

It's all good fun unless there is a write-in movement. I don't think Colbert's audience are in Hillary's demographic so it could hurt some.

There's too much at stake and the races will probably be close. I hope that Colbert will pull out when it gets close to SC and endorse Obama. Let's hope that he is motivated more by what is right than by the ego feeding possiblity of getting lots of votes and publicity.

This is exciting. So was Barack's performance in last night's debate. Looks like we're on a roll.

In response to last night’s incredible and overwhelming debate victory, let’s show Senator Obama and the campaign that we were listening and that we loved what we heard!

Nothing gets the attention of the campaign and the media more than grassroots contributions. A surge of donations as a response to the debate will surely send a positive message.

Did I say something that made you think Barack's supporters weren't intelligent? I hope not!

The purpose of my post was to acknowledge Barack's great performance in the debate last night and to ask those who agreed to show the campaign that we appreciated it by making a contribution. I think a surge of donations as a response to the debate will send a positive message and will be noticed.

Am I missing something in your reply?

No, I don't think Dehlia was talking about you. I think she's been reading the other threads and there have been a few suspected "trolls" on the blogs today. I think that she was just warning them that they can say what they want but let it be know that there are some TERRIFIC supporters here that don't care what they say.

I wouldn't worry about AFSCME. I share their liberal views on policy in general but I don't think much of their leadership because of an experience I had.

About two years ago, I was interviewed there (at the DC headquarters) for a job as a reporter and editor for their magazine, which goes out to every single member in the country. (They are automatically members of the union by virtue of being public employees.)

I was told that the stories had to have a liberal slant and that I could only interview union workers - even though, in some cases, there were stories about programs or surveys where you really needed to interview the person in management who conducted them to understand what the study actually consisted of. It is a simple question of being thorough in your research.

I was curious, so I asked what percentage of their readership was democratic. They told me that 40 percent were Republicans. I gave a discreet gasp.

In other words, I was being asked to post my own liberal propaganda (anything is propaganda if it is deliberately slanted, no matter how lofty the ideal) on hundreds of thousands of people who disagreed and had no choice but to subscribe to my magazine. How is that representing a union’s interests? What is wrong with non-partisan. It is entirely possible to advocate for workers while showing some academic honesty. A cause is different from a point of view.

Needless to say, I withdrew my candidacy for the job.

All of this, to say that you can be sure that AFSCME's endorsement is perpetrated by a few DC union heads, and that the membership is likely as diverse as any group of people.

I have no respect for organizations that treat a huge chunk of their membership as though it did not exist. That is not liberalism. It is totalitarianism.

The president of AFSCME is a close friend to B Clinton. He endorsed B Clinton in 1992. Hopefully, the actual members do not follow this guys lead. It is interesting that roughly 40% of their membership are Republicans.
