Hello everyone!
Just a quick note to all my fellow Obama supporters from around the the great
state of Mississippi. First of all Northern Mississippi for Obama 2008 has a new
e-mail address. The e-mail address is now
nms4obama2008@comcast.net
. I probably
should have done this sooner but you know how that goes, busy, busy, busy. From
now on, please send all correspondence to this e-mail address, of course if you
send questions/concerns to my personal e-mail, I won't hold it against you!
Now for some Mississippi Obama news!!!!
* Our fund raising effort is off and running, the only problem is that I was
only able to attract 1 gentleman to my meeting. However, that gentleman, Mr.
Oumar Diallo, has an extensive background in fund raising for non-profit
organizations throughout the country. So, my wife, my father, Mr Diallo and I
spent roughly 2 1/2 hours last night formulating a plan to put together a top
notch fund raising effort here in De Soto County. We are not going to let the
fact that the meeting last night was sparsely attended deter us. We all think we
can pull this off
in only 10 days time!
* To that end, I have already been able to get tentative agreements to speak by
two people. MS State Representative John Mayo (D - Clarksdale) is interested but
unable to commit totally until after March 4th.
* Noted author and commentator, Mark Weston, author of two books, one on
Pakistan and one on Saudia Arabia, has also committed to speak at our fund
raiser. Mr. Weston has worked as a journalist for ABC news and written articles
for the New York Times, Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. His latest
article "Why Barack Obama is best for our national security" will be the subject
of his speech. You can access this article at:
http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200802050230/OPINION/802050310
* Working on other speakers to attend, including our Keynote speaker, in which
Mr. Wilbur Colom of Columbus, MS (Obama point person in MS ) has promised to
work with me and the campaign to secure a name recognized speaker.
*It is also our intent to hold silent a silent auction for 4 to 6 originally
designed Obama posters, a selection of African themed art and other items that
we deem worthy.
* The tentative date for the fund raiser is Saturday, March 8th. The time
discussed is starting the event at 6pm. As of this moment we are working on a
venue that will hold 200 to 500 people. The price of tickets has not been set.
Our goal is to raise in excess of $25k for the Obama Campaign. I think we are on
our way.
* I will soon have a PO Box for correspondence. More info to follow.
* The Jackson, MS office for the Barack Obama campaign is now open! The address
is 733 N. State St., Jackson, MS, 39202. This is the old campaign office of
Democratic candidate for Governor John Arthur Eaves. As of this moment I do not
have a phone number but phones and computers were set to be activated yesterday.
When I have a number I will let everyone know!
So that is where we stand right now. All of my time is going to be taken up in
the next 10 or 11 days putting this fund raiser
together. Needless to say, the four of us who attended the meeting last night
cannot do it alone. We are going to need to volunteers to send out faxes,
mailings, make phone calls, solicit donations for refreshments and when the time
comes volunteer to work ticket sales at the event, coat check, set up and take
down, decorate, audio/video and a host of other things. It is my sincerest hope
that the Mississippi and Memphis Obama community will join me in making this
event a rousing success and help prove to the state and De Soto County that not
only is Barack Obama our man but that even though state of Mississippi and De
Soto County are red, there are plenty of us that bleed blue!
