Hi folks!
Thanks for coming to Knitters for Obama. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your being here - knitters are amazing people, and this is a great chance to show it! Here are some things we can do to get the ball rolling:
- You can schedule a "Knit-In for Obama" in your community. A knit-in/stitch-'n'-bitch is a great way to bring your fellow knitters together to talk about Barack (and do some good knitting in public at the same time!) You can use the event to fundraise, or if you're more inclined, just to talk about Barack and get people motivated.
- You can donate to the Knitters for Obama Fund. Barack needs our support to make it in this race and your donation can go a long way toward helping him. Your contribution goes 100% to the Obama campaign. Support the Fund by donating here:

- You can call or email your fellow knitters and encourage them to join Knitters for Obama. We would like to see as many people join as possible! This will be a great place to hear about knitting events, and your participation helps show visible support for Barack during the campaign. Let's show that knitters are a force to be reckoned with! You can send knitter friends to:

/>
- You can blog about why you're supporting Barack for President in 2008. The more Barack gets out there in the blogosphere, the better!
- You can design, wear, and share Obama '08 knitted stuff. You can even sell knitted goods on Etsy or eBay to raise cash for the Obama campaign! Who wouldn't pay top dollar for toasty socks AND supporting a good cause?
- You can help organize friends and family for other Obama events and fundraising activities. Barack is going strong, but he's going to need all the help he can get!
Thanks again and looking forward to working with you on mending the fabric of American politics!

I think your closing comment is just perfect! Has the senator seen it?
I belong to a knitting group here in NM called Purlers of Wisdom Against War in Iraq (POWAWI). We are small but involved, and we love the idea of Knit-ins. Could we plan a national knit-in? Has anyone come up with any Obama patterns for hats, socks, wrist warmers? People are going to need those in the cold months of the first primaries, don't you think?

I would love to receive your pattern for the Obama scarf! I'll knit a lot of Christmas presents...but don't have the money to donate.
Keep up the enthusiasm and hope!

We need to get the word out encouraging residents of states close to the next primary states to take the day off and travel where they can make the greatest difference for Obama. Please ask your group members to pass the word on to others that the only chance Obama has to overcome all the special pac money pouring into primary states is if people mobilize and take a stand against it. New Hampshire proves that we cannot rest after a victory; it will take heroic measures to overcome this adversary.
There is no issue more important to me than the harm being done to our country by the return on investment that corporations are making on their campaign contributions. 63% of Hillary's money comes from donors giving in amounts $2300 dollars and up. This kind of donor has such a stake in her that fully 33% of her total funds come from amounts of $4600. Obama has been successful in drawing large contributions as well, but those kinds of donors do nor have majority ownership in his campaign. He has matched her funding instead with twice as many donations from ordinary Americans; 26% of his money comes from donations under $200 as compared to her 12%. In the history of American primaries, no other candidate has garnered as much financial support from people like me and you. Source:

What we are fighting for is a President who is not dependent on donations from interests like pharmaceuticals, health care insurers, oil, auto makers, or the military industrial complex for re-election. We need someone who can tell them that they did not install him; the american people paid for my campaign and I am here to fight for health care, for the environment, for and end to war, and so much more which progressives care about. However, as we build a national movement for change we must understand that this cause goes beyond the term of any office. Keep in mind that the most important outcome is the development of a progressive infrastructure throughout the nation that will be ready every two years to help the most independent and viable progressive candidates win the Democratic primaries. To help mobilize for change in both this campaign and those beyond following page exists to collect resources and network individuals interested in this effort.

I am a Western New Yorker. A friend of mine went to Erie to campaign, as most of the Obama stuff is sold out we made our own. Using stencils we put his logo on the back of our sweatshirts, it was a last minute thing I didn't have time to knit for, however I have plans. I am planning on attempting an Obama hat, or two, though I am somewhat new to knitting and would apprecatie any help that good be given, I was think something simple with just his name, possible '08 but that might be to much for a hat.

I've designed and posted some Obama knitting patterns at:

I'm almost finished with my sweater. I work on it in public (e.g., on the bus) and find it a great way to start a conversation about Obama:
"What are you making?"
"An Obama sweater."
"An Obama sweater!? I saw a little of his speech on the news . . "
Enjoy!

Just found this blog through Stitchn'bitch.
Love the patterns that Jane posted!
If you didn't see Bill Moyers journal on Friday night May 9th - find it online. His comments about the inherent racism in the continuing "news" over Jeremiah Wright are very compelling.

I bought a knitting pattern called "Cute Asses For Obama" online, $6 and all proceeds go to our man Barack's campaign. Google it! Its a cute democratic donkey who's saddle blaket says Obama '08 on it. A little advanced for my knitting level, but I'm gonna try. Double pointed needles, good God. Everybody keep getting SIMPLE patterns out there, maybe some SUMMER stuff, cause we've got to get busy!

I've had a similar experience. Who is in charge of this group? I have tried sending emails to the group, but they never go through.

I am hosting an event next week of Bethesda/DC area women and didn't realize that a larger Knitters for Obama network already existed. I intuitively felt that an interest in knitting would be a way to organize. I appreciate the link to patterns for knit items to sell as well as the suggestions for knitting as visibility. I am encouraging attendees to bring a friend and think that having a knitting clinic could bring in new faces. Maybe turning it into a fundraiser, or a yarn stash swop with some $$ exchange. I would appreciate ideas from the larger Knitters for Obama community on ways to connect knitting and politics.

I'm working with a local knitting store in Seven Valleys, PA (near Shrewsbury). We're planning a Knit-In and Voter Registration Drive probably early September.
I'm so excited that the young woman who owns the store is an Obama supporter and wants to do this event!
I like the stash swap idea too.
I'll do my next contribution through the Knitters.
Knit for Hope.
Susan in New Freedom (yep, that's where I live).
