Hey Everyone,
I figured now would be a good time to remind everyone (again) about some upcoming space events, that would be worth going to. We have a couple of major events this week, as well as future events upcoming. I promise reports to any and all I attend, and I suggest that you attend as well
Netroots Nation Space Policy Panel - Join Andrew Hoppin, George Whitesides, Patricia Grace Smith, Lori Garver, and Chris Bowers for a discussion about progressive space policy, and what the future of US space policy should be and should included. This will be AT Netroots Nation, I will be there (so if you want to chew me out for something I've said, feel free). This will be at Netroots Nation, Room 19, Austin Tx - Friday, July 18th 3:00 PM - 4:15 pm - click here for more details.
Space Frontier Foundation NewSpace Conference - This is the 20th Anniversary of the Space Frontier Foundation, and is hosting its annual NewSpace Conference at the Doubletree Hotel, Crystal City, VA, on July 17-19. They will have a dinner honoring the late Arthur C Clarke. Click here for more details.
Netroots Nation Space Policy Platform Meeting - Andrew Hoppin, along with myself, on behalf of the Space Policy Advisory Group, will be hosting a platform meeting about space policy. Since Senator Obama has opened up the party platform to suggestions from everyone, this gives us an excellent opportunity to talk about suggestions. It also gives us a chance to touch base, and talk about strategy to help elect Senator Obama. It will also be on July 18th, at 5:30 PM, shortly after the Space Policy Panel. It will be at Mother Egan's Irish Pub - click here for more details.
NewSpace Space Policy Platform Meeting - With the NewSpace Conference going on at the same time as Netroots Nations, it was decided to hold another platform meeting about space policy for the Democratic Platform. Gary Olsen will host this one. It will be at 8:30 PM, July 18th, also at the DoubleTree hotel. Click here for more details
Space Elevator Conference - one of the boldest proposals when it comes to space, the Space elevator has been talked about here, at openleft, and pretty much everywhere at least once. And this week, in Redmond WA, there will be a conference totally dedicated to the space elevator concept. The dates for it are Friday, July 18 thru Sunday, July 20. Click here for more details.
Mars Society 2008 Conference - The Mars Society, started in 1998, is having its annual conference in Boulder Co, August 14-17. Obviously Bob Zubrin will be there, as will other space dignitaries, also. Click here for more information.
Space Investment Summit 5 - I reported on the 4th Space Investment Summit, and #5 is coming up on October 15th. It will be at the Luxe Hotel Bel-Air, in Los Angeles. To borrow their description,
Space Investment Summit 5 (SIS-5) will continue the series of forums hosting entrepreneurs and investors in a frank dialogue about the best investment opportunities in new space-related ventures. The summit comes at an exciting time for space-related business, with space startups like Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Elon Musk’s SpaceX nearing commercial operations, while space-related ventures like Google Earth and Garmin expand to reach global markets.

International Symposium for Personal and Commercial Spaceflight - the ISPCS will be held in Las Cruces, NM, on Oct.22-23, 2008. While it won't be in conjunction with the X Prize Cup (in fact there won't be an X Prize Cup this year), the ISPCS looks to be very exciting. Tentatively, it will include an overflight of the WhiteKnight 2 aircraft. Click here for more details.
As I said, I'll be at Netroots Nation, so I'll be at the Space Policy Panel, as well as the Netroots Nation space policy platform meeting.
As for the Mars Society Conference, or the 5th Space Investment Summit, or the ISPCS, I can't promise that I'll be able to attend, because of RL commitments and money issues, but if I do attend I'll let you know, and report about it.
All times are local
BTW, if you are attending any of these events, feel free to say so in the comments.
