So I've been off the blog for a few days. No TV because I like it that way. But headlines indicate it's been a tough day for the campaign. Oh well. There'll be tougher days.
You'll like this:
A few days ago I was planning my Women for Obama postcard party and e-mailed my local Dem headquarters to see if we can use the rented space for the event.
At the same time I was having an e-mail conversation with a CA CD1 Obama supporter online. He's doing pro-Obama videos and raising money to air them locally.
Five minutes into that conversation, the phone rang. It was the local Obama campaign. Apparently I'm on the list. *snicker* Of course I'm on the list. I've been volunteering for months. But. On the phone was this great woman from Iowa, out here on vacation with her family. She dropped in to phone bank to recruit volunteers at our local Obama camp leader's house. She had the "G" list. So we talked. We laughed. I promised to bring her tourist info when she visits our Dem GOTV booth tomorrow.
I hung up the phone and went to the grocery store. Wearing my Obama button. One of my favorite checkers noticed and I found out that he, too, is a supporter. He'll be volunteering soon.
I ran into a friend. Signed him up to canvass. He'll bring his wife.
Sunday we went to Berkeley. Yellow flyers stapled on every telephone pole near the university, seeking volunteers for the campaign. Little tear-off squares with a phone number. Yet another grassroots effort.
Last night my daughter played with Google Street View. Entered our address. My car shows in the driveway. Obama bumper sticker and all. Global advertising at its snoopiest.
We watched the last episode of the last season of Gilmore Girls. We're addicted, I admit it. It ends with the main character accepting a job as a reporter with the Obama campaign. Really. Watch it. You'll laugh.
My point: we are everywhere.
Sometimes there are a few dissenters on the blog. But there are thousands of supporters who never even visit the blog. Sometimes the MSM distorts and spins. But there are thousands who do not watch. Thousands behind the scenes, working the streets, talking the issues, making calls, registering voters, supporting change.
Don't ever let the hooplah get you down. We'll win this thing.
