Barack is set to hit the airwaves in one hour with his first keynote address to both houses of Congress. This is why we elected him, because he knows how to tell everyone what needs to be said, even when the truths are difficult to hear. He knows how to express himself quite well-- so much more clearly and credibly than our recently departed Duuhbya. It's been so long we almost forgot what it could be like to have a President we can believe in. Well, we're finally on the journey now.
I realize the times are tough because of the mess we've inherited from W's 8 long years of ineptitude and slamming the national ship from shoal to reef and back again. It will take time and collective work, some sacrifices and faith in our ability as Americans working together for the common good, to patch the hull and get our ship of state out into the main channel where she belongs. Bailout is a good analogy here... If we work together, we can get this job done!

I am very thankful for our President Obama and his leadership to date. The efforts to communicate with accountability and truth about the recovery efforts, are so refreshing and gracefully counter the naysayers who fear it's still just business as usual in DC. We can see with confidence how the dollars are being spent on the recovery.
I know there's a lot of other work to do to fix things that are broken. Most importantly:
1.) The health care system needs a complete overhaul. It's been more of a dead man walking walking than the banking system has been lately, for the past 5-10 years running.
2.) Our planet's global warming problems aren't getting any less urgent. A complete overhaul of the energy policies and investment in sustainabilty is needed NOW for the environment and the future livability of all inhabitants of this small blue planet. It's one thing to talk about green jobs. What we need is for everyone to incorporate the basic aspects of green behavior into whatever their line of work, lifestyle and home making in order to make the shift to a sustainable future. I've liked the idea of a carbon tax and full rebate for some time now, since I heard it advocated by James Hansen.
Meanwhile, I'm doing my part. I continue to work locally for a sustainable environment and watershed. I ride my bicycle to work on most days. I set a new personal best record number of trips last year, and kept right on adding to it this new year. It's great for my fitness, saves money. and has zero carbon emissions. Being the change we seek, can happen with each little turn of the pedals.
