The moment is critical. We're nearing the end of a generation of back and forth rancor, defined by the tit-for-tat politics of just two elite political families. Americans are realizing we are a people capable of much more, and we deserve much better from our leaders. Many of us have immense regrets and disappointment about the past six years. Some wish we could re-do most of the last two decades. But there are no do-overs.
At this crucial turning point, Americans must choose a direction for the Democratic Party and for the country, and we can choose to return to the beaten path, repressing our memories of the past. Or, believing in the promise of a better future, we can take a road less traveled: the path of hope - a path of reconciliation, communication, and solidarity. We could reopen old scars and rehash old battles. Or we could instead turn over the page, come together, and begin a new chapter in the book of American history.
I say, the next American president has got to be Barack Obama. It cannot be anyone else. America can hardly wait a year and a half for a new president, but we absolutely cannot afford to continue this vicious cycle. America cannot sustain a presidential family-feud any longer. We've installed a revolving door for polarizing figures at the White House. We have to drain the swamp. We have to turn over a new leaf. It's time for a changing of the guard. It's our turn. It's Barack Obama's turn.
