FROM THE COUNCIL FOR A LIVEABLE WORLD Yesterday, in votes on three amendments to the Supplemental Appropriations bill to fund the war, the House:
In the first vote, in which Congress rejected continued funding for the Iraq war, anti-war advocates had an unexpected ally: 132 Republicans refused to vote either for or against war funding, and simply voted "Present." While Republicans have tried to spin this as a protest against the congressional procedures Democratic leaders used to bring this legislation to a vote, the practical reality is that House Republicans refused to vote to fund a war that they support. The only conclusion to be drawn is that Republicans are finally realizing that their President and party are significantly out of step with the clear will of the American people and that their electoral prospects in November are in serious jeopardy. The Senate version of the Supplemental Appropriations bill – which still includes war funding – will be considered next week. CLW asked you last week to e-mail your Representatives about this vote, and thousands of you responded. Contact your Senators. Thank you for your hard work and support. Together we are making progress in bringing our troops home from Iraq. I would like to see America go back to paper ballots. We had 2 elections robbed from us by the republicians and we can't let this happen again. We need to take this country back and this would help. The poll machines can't be relied on. In Utah along with a computer ballot it automatically does a paper ballot but if they arn't counted who's to know. Let me know what you think.
Over the last several weeks -- watching Barack Obama respond to attacks with a combination of spirit, strength and dignity while the venom spouted at him becomes uglier daily -- I've come to believe that this election is a test. The politics of fear and division have taken America to a pretty ugly place. If we can elect Barack in spite of all the ugliness, we can begin our climb out of the cesspool. If we can't manage to do this, it will because fear and hate have triumphed, and I fear we may never get our country back, at least not in our lifetimes. Don't misunderstand me: I'm not an Obama sycophant who believes that Barack can do no wrong. I disagree with him on some things, and don't imagine for a second that I will agree with his every action as president. But he is trying to do politics in a way that's fallen out of fashion in the era of Karl Rove fearmongering and Mark Penn microtargeting. He's trying to appeal to the best in people, to hope rather than fear -- to the very spirit that produced this country's greatest achievements, from ending slavery to beating Hitler to going to the moon. Politics based on fear and division has produced nothing but misery in any nation where it has succeeded, and we should not imagine that our country is somehow an exception. This is a test, America. I wish I was sure we will pass it, but I do have hope.
I have a few ideas that we need to get out. I am not a person to put together a web site or anything, but I have been getting a lot of natural tips that work instead of chemicals. The very best one is, USE VINEGAR instead of weed killer, [R...dup but don't want to get in any trouble here] It works better that anything on weeds, moss on cement, gravel driveways, and best of all, the biggest Dandelion you can think of, dies, shrivels, and turns yellow in a few hours. 2 or 3 hrs. No residue on mother earth, works so well, you have to be careful of drips or tracking it onto the lawn. Over-spray on good plants kills them too. It works that well, darn cheaper too. V.
I'm in Reno, with hopefully the rest of the Obama state delegates. Got a little tied up with work and personal matters so could not take a van up. Instead I drove, which was a considerable task. But I am here, and managed to get my credentials thanks to the registration folks keeping the sign-in tables open past 9pm. Thanks again! I hope to meet the rest of you tomorrow. Let's try to take some delegates away from Hillary! IF WE DON'T TURN THIS PLANET AROUND SOON, IT'S GOING TO GET REAL NASTY. OBAMA HAS THAT POTENTIAL. GEO
Hi all I seriously quit my job last week (10 days ago) to devote 100% OF MY TIME TO GET PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA ELECTED...Trust me, one does not make a lot of money whilst working here in SD...but no matter. BHO Presidency is mas important to me!
Rob PS: If any of U donate the airline miles for a ticket I'll go any where and work as hard as possible for BHO! HE'S READY TO KEEP MOVING, SO LETS ALL DO THE SAME... Thats how we roll on the BHO blogs!!!!!!! (((((((((("YES WE CAN - SI SE PUEDE")))))))))) Call, call, call, canvas, involve friends, and donate, donate, donate... We have to bankrupt both shiLIARy and mcInsane NOW!!!!! Remember to BOYCOTT ABC and all of the MSM make them pay and their NASTY advertisers...Call and e-mail them over and over etc... My BO fund raising page: http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/RebelSioux4Obama To Empower Obama to restore our Country within itself and our Image throughout the World! This is my other personal goal, I would like to have as many friends from all States and Countries from our BHO family... I am so glad that Obama's coming out swinging. Instant rebuttals to Republican attacks. And not just denials but counter attacks that steal the news cycle and has our opponents wimpering about how hard they've been hit. When I heard the He's 'losing his bearings' retort, I lept to my feet and cheered! A solid kick to the groin coupled with perfectly plausible deniability. Absolutely elegant! Next, with the multi-player (Obama, Biden, Pelosi) punch right to the Republican's nose over the, obstensible, chastisement of Carter. Think about it, why critisize Carter? What's he matter? This was a Republican attempt to frame the debate. Again, stealing the news cycle. Genius! This brilliant coordination makes me proud. I am so happy to see our team ready to rock the Republicans back on their heels. This is Bruce Lee level political Kung-Fu.
Georgia is on the move for Obama. In my part of town I have seen numerous new Obama signs on front lawns and in store windows. My family lives in New York and I have engaged them being educators to really strongly support Obama among New York Teachers. As an educator and writer, I am so proud of Obama that it brings tears to my eyes.Having lived overseas (Europe) and traveled all over Africa and South America...Obama is right. We must as a strong country not be afraid to talk to all nations to get our agenda across. We cannot be an isolated country unaware of what the global community thinks of our country.Having lived abroad we are in trouble with our image and fear of dialogue with people who are different. Sincerely, A former New Yorker who has re-located and I can feel the energy in the air down here. The rest of the slide show is here: http://tinyurl.com/3jqs9j I dont see how anyone can come to the conclusion that I can see why no one trusts or responds to the Bush distort the truth type of diplomacy. BUSH AND HIS BUDDIES ARE NOT TRUSTED ENOUGH TO PULL OFF THIS TYPE OF DIPLOMACY. THE WHOLE WORLD HAS BEEN WATCHING. OBAMA 08 SOMEONE OUR ENIMIES WOULD TRUST AND RESPECT IN A SERIOUS CONVERSATION ABOUT PEACE. THANKS SCORPI2000 by scorpi2000 May 16, 2008 at 11:44 pmA lot of noise has been made about Hillary Clinton supporters suggesting that they would not vote for Obama this fall. The Daily Koz has a great little post with stats from The Harper's Index that shows what these numbers looked like for past elections as compared to this year. Here they are:
Call me crazy, but I'm feeling pretty good about our relative odds! After twenty-four hours I am still grumbling. One would think that the GOP would know the difference between these three words. Where has good old diplomacy gone? I'm afraid that it has been brushed under the rug recently. Here Senator Obama offers to unearth this art and gets hammered by the idiotic and uninspired. Diplomacy is talking for goodness sake. Negotiation is seeking a goal. Hopefully it would be a win-win situation. Appeasement is giving away something so that something doesn't happen. Pretty simplistic. What is wrong with talking to Iran? This is a world supposedly of grown-ups. Nothing was ever said about negotiations and/or appeasement but these two things became instant talking points. As a person who has always voted Republican I am ashamed. If anyone is even considering voting GOP this year I would urge them to do three things: 1) Watch the Frontline presentation, "Bush's War". 2) Watch Michael Moore's Sicko. 3) Read David C. Johnston's Free Lunch. This goes into great depth of how we, the taxpayers, are paying for everything. Include in that the new Yankee Stadium. It also talks about Enron. After doing these three things and you still want to vote for the GOP this year, then all I can say is that I pity you. Me? I'm voting American and to put an end to wasting my taxpayer's money. There has to be a better tomorrow! Has anobdy else noticed that ever since McSame started using the tele-prompters, he talks to his audience as if they were 5 year olds?
The inflections in his voice are so annoying it makes me want to vomit....he's just as bad at Bush. I'm still not quite sure he knows how to read the tele-prompters though. My new theory about the Democrats rabid advocacy of Hillary's campaign for the White House is called the Ted Nugent Carnivore Syndrome. Americans are so devastated (yes, embittered) by the effects of the last Seven Years of Slowly Descending Into Hell Under Bush that they are channeling their hatred into support for her hawkish views. For instance; those with a deeply felt "cause" (a dangerous thing to have when armed), like the Jews for Israel, are aroused by her rhetorical cries to obliterate Iran. She doesn't have balls so she has to manufacture them rhetorically. We can't talk to our enemies to bring about peace or we’re considered weak - look at the flak Carter took for talking to Hamas and the same flak Obama takes for suggesting we communicate - we have to blow them out of the water. (On a related side note, what the Israeli government did to Lebanon in 2006 equates to terrorism the way a suicide bomber walking into a crowded market does, but of course no one would say that publicly for fear of offending those with a "cause". And they're easily (and readily) offended because they have a lot of hate.) Like how Ted Nugent, poster boy of killing for sport, can declare, "Sure, kill the towel heads. It's easy; I just shot 12 pigs with my bow and arrow. Come on over, let's have a barbecue!" The other even more absurd and potentially devastating part of this is that Obama and Clinton supporters are channeling their hatred of Bush into hatred for the other candidate. If change is really the issue, why should it even occur to anyone not to vote for the other candidate when they win the nomination? One reason only; hate. We're blinded by it. Hate never fixed anything. It doesn't equate to a "cause", it only subtracts from our potential. And it won't fix our country now. But there sure are a lot of people who want to try it out. Reminds me of the Clinton presidency. The Republicans had a lot of hate and barbecues then, too. We must be careful not to become them.
VETTING OF THE OBAMAS - AND US He’s Every Man & Woman. Barack Obama is the consummate multi-cultural American. His diverse family ethnicity, his early travels and life abroad, and his free spirited mother who truly believed in POSSIBILITIES, set the young Obama on an identity journey from day one. We all go through an identity crisis at some time in our life, but usually we have a clear foundation that places us in well-defined categories. Obama had no such safe cubicle from which to explore life. He did not fit neatly into any category. Obama's inclusive heritage contributed much to his global understanding and tender compassion. His search for TRUTH concerning himself, and more broadly, about human nature, led him on a research expedition which continues to this day. He processes life from many perspectives. This is huge - both on a personal level and also as a potential world leader. People sense his sincerity, his intelligence, and his viable resolutions. A late night Open Thread for the true night owls and the West Coast crew . . . Tomorrow morning we'll be kicking off one of the last big GOTV weekends, this time for Kentucky and Oregon. Who's planning on helping out?
Mr. Obama is half white, Mrs. Clinton is all woman. Mr. Obama is half black, Mrs. Clinton is all woman. Let's get off the race issue and the sex issue and select an electable candidate. We know who that is. Its not race, it beliefs, but the blacks are polarizing the race thanks to the pollsters of the media. Mr. Obama is trying his best, Mrs. Clinton owes a lot of favors that Mr. Obama doesn't. Let's give him a win into the convention and bury the race issue. I'm from the south so I'm like Mr. Obama, I have some black blood in me too. But you know what, all of our blood is RED. Our skin color is the color of the largest organ of our body. This is a test from God. Do not let race be an issue or experience but leadership which Mr. Obama is showing right now. Mrs. Clinton is showing her weakness with her tears, her pants suit jokes, her cheating husband, etc. God will bless you Mr. Obama, no matter what. On to victory and don't pick that woman for your running mate.
I have my interview for the Obama Summer Fellowship tommorow between 3-6pm. I really hope that i get it so that i can help even further in the road to change! wish me luck! Scott- Artists of San Antonio for Obama I read somewhere that many independents were supporting Obama, some of whom have libertarian leanings. The latter suggests that we don't always think that bigger and more government has all the answers. Well, I agree with Will Rogers on that point. He once said, "Just be glad you're not getting all the government you're paying for." I couldn't agree more. In any case, I'm one of those independents who tends to think smaller government is better. But I also think that government should serve the people. And that our current administration has totally lost touch with all of us, fighting a stupid and pointless war that has no chance of converting a tribal culture into a centralized democracy. Why should we impose our views on them? If it's their oil we want, then let's just buy what they'll sell us. I'm voting for Barack Obama.
