Obama was adopted as an honorary member into the family within the Crow tribe that inhabited the reservation - who gave the presidential candidate a new name and new parents.
"Awe Kooda bilaxpak Kuuxshish" was the honorary name given to Obama meaning, "one who helps people throughout the land."
Obama was escorted out to the stage in Crow Agency, Montana arm-in-arm between his adopted parents: Sunny and Mary Black Eagle.
Obama thanked his honorary new parents – for giving him another name to tack on to the list, "I like my new name Barack Black Eagle. I mean that's a good name."

Hi. I’m Emma Laurent. I’m 17 and I was born and raised in Sheridan, WY. When I was 13, I saw President Bush give a public address to the nation on TV about the war. At the time I didn’t understand the details of what was happening around me, but I did know that as a nation we had committed to something I couldn’t ease my conscious about. Since then my passion has been to promote justice in the world, and especially in our nation, for the failure to promote justice everywhere is in turn promoting injustice everywhere. Because I live in a nation of, by, and for the people, the best way to accomplish my dream is through the messy yet rewarding world of politics.
We are a nation under Rousseau’s social contract, governed by the consent of the people, and hence the purest form of government. As a result, we as a population not only have the right to be involved in the workings of our country, but the responsibility! It is our exercise of these rights that shows our commitment to the contract. The easiest and most essential way to protect our rights is to vote. It is dire to the survival of our nation that we uphold these rights by using them, otherwise they will deteriorate. This is why I’m involved with Organizing for America. I want to guarantee every citizen is aware that they hold the power of change. It is the role of the citizens to protect their rights, for otherwise the government would only be established on paper, rather through the virtue of the citizens’ heart. As James Madison said, “To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty of happiness without any virtue in the people is a chimerical idea.”
I want to be the change. If we want a nation of, by, and for the people, we have an obligation to ensure that justice is promoted in our nation and throughout the world. So please, get out to vote and help Organizing for America reach out to voters in 2010.
"The whole premise of Race to the Top is that teachers are the single most important factor in a child’s education from the moment they step into the classroom. And I know firsthand that the vast majority of teachers are working tirelessly, are passionate about their students, are often digging into their own pockets for basic supplies, are going above and beyond the call of duty.
So I want teachers to have higher salaries. I want them to have more support. I want them to be trained like the professionals they are –- with rigorous residencies like the ones that doctors go through. (Applause.) I want to give them a career ladder so they’ve opportunities to advance, and earn real financial security. I don't want talented young people to say I’d love to teach but I can’t afford it. (Applause.)
I want them to have a fulfilling and supportive workplace environment. I want them to have the resources -- from basic supplies to reasonable class sizes -- that help them succeed."
But all I’m asking in return -- as a President, as a parent, and as a citizen -- is some measure of accountability. (Applause.) So even as we applaud teachers for their hard work, we’ve got to make sure we’re seeing results in the classroom. If we’re not seeing results in the classroom, then let’s work with teachers to help them become more effective. If that doesn’t work, let’s find the right teacher for that classroom. (Applause.)
************
But to paraphrase Dr. King, education isn’t an either/or proposition. It’s a both/and proposition. It will take both more focus from our parents, and better schooling. It will take both more money, and more reform. It will take both a collective commitment, and a personal commitment.
So, yes, our federal government has responsibilities that it has to meet, and I will keep on making sure the federal government meets those responsibilities. Our governors, our superintendants, our states, our school districts have responsibilities to meet. And parents have responsibilities that they have to meet. And our children have responsibilities that they have to meet. (Applause.)
It’s not just parents. It’s the children, too. Our kids need to understand nobody is going to hand them a future. (Applause.) An education is not something you just tip your head and they pour it in your ear. (Laughter.) You’ve got to want it. You’ve got to reach out and claim that future for yourself. And you can’t make excuses. (Applause.)

Now all of this would be simply silly if not for the fact that this is the pattern: find a bright, shining lie, an often trivial issue, reshape it to your agenda of attack and fear, distort and dissemble, bang it like a drum to rouse the media circus and distract the public - and its public servants -- from the critical work necessary to survive as a republic.

Carly Kinney was one of many young people who made it to the ballot box for the first time in November of 2008. Now, two years later, Carly recognizes the significance of her first vote and understands the importance in continuing to voice her opinions through her votes. She has stayed close to the Obama for America movement by volunteering with OFA NH and serving as our Summer Organizer for the Souhegan Valley.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Where did you grow up and what got you involved in politics?I grew up in Amherst, New Hampshire. Growing up in the state with the first primary in the nation, I was surrounded by politics, and I was always a politically-aware child. I loved seeing the presidential candidates marching in my town’s Fourth of July parade and coming to events in my area. Before the New Hampshire Primary in 2008, I found myself going to as many candidate events as I could both Republican and Democrat, because I was so amazed that they would have any interest in coming to my small state. When was your first election?2008 was the first election I voted in, although I distinctly remember watching the election results with my parents in 2000 and 2004. Can you describe your experience as a young voter on Election Day in 2008?Being a young voter in 2008 felt empowering. I had become a volunteer for Obama for America by Election Day, so I spent a few hours poll watching in addition to my voting. I remember turning on the news when I got home to hear them talking about young voters. Here were all of these big political analysts talking about how I was making a huge difference in the election! It was incredible, but I already knew that the youth vote was going to have more impact than people expected – we were so energized and passionate! Nothing was going to keep us from the polls. What motivates you to vote?My ideas about how this country should be run matter and I am not going to waste my opportunity to have my expression of those ideas count. Like everyone else, I want my voice to be heard and voting is the way I can ensure that it is.Why is it important for you to vote in 2010? Why do you think it is important for your generation to vote in 2010?If my generation could make such a huge impact in 2008, we could do it in 2010. We can’t sit back and let older generations speak for us – we have to speak for ourselves. In 2008, 15 million people voted for the first time, they voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. What role do you think first time 2008 voters like yourself play in November’s upcoming midterm election?First time 2008 voters can be crucial in 2010. If we get out and vote, we can get Democrats elected and shock all the pundits who said we wouldn’t vote!Which piece of the Obama Administration has been the most important for you? How do you think it will impact your community?Health care reform was very important to me. As a college student, I’m not sure what kind of job I’ll be able to find when I get out of school, and I don’t want to have to worry about losing my health coverage. With this new reform, I’m glad that I will be able to stay on my parent’s health insurance until I’m 26. I think this provision makes it so much easier for students to relax a little as their graduation date approaches. With the cost of student loans and the uncertainty of the job market, knowing that your health is covered is going to make it so much easier for people my age to transition into the working world. What do you think the best way to reengage young people is?We need to talk to them about the actual impact they can have. A lot of young people want to see things change, but they don’t realize how powerful we can be as a group. We need to get them to see that this is the best way to demonstrate to policy makers that our voices are important.

Nest week, in honor of the President's 49th birthday, volunteers from across New Hampshire will gather to phone bank in order to get even more people out and active in this election cycle. In 2008, Barack Obama attracted a number of people to the Democratic party who had never before taken an interest in party politics or civic participation. One young American who voted for the first time in 2008 was Eric, a 21 year old, native New Jerseyian and recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
In 2008, I felt that for the first time, the focus in the political world was on the long-term issues facing our country. As someone who was then in college, I wanted a President to be focused on the issues of today, but also have the foresight to address the issues I will be facing when I'm ready to retire. For the first time in a long time we have a President who cares more about *my* future opportunities more than his own political career.
In his first 18 months, President Obama has already tackled many of the issues voters like Eric were concerned about. These legislative victories - like health insurance reform and Wall Street reform - were won because of the strength of the President’s supporters, volunteers and voters like Eric who got involved and stayed involved. There is however still a lot of work to be done.
We need you to volunteer so more people like Eric will make their voice heard again in November. Join us on August 4th to celebrate President Obama’s birthday and help us recruit more community volunteers. Click here to find an event near you: http://bit.ly/bqpOEN

I hope you didn't miss this video of the son of Hartford and Mary Black Eagle, from the Crow Nation,
Thursday night I had the opportunity to join a group of OFA volunteers at a phone bank in Chesterfield. What a dynamic group of individuals. One of these dedicated Obama supporters was Teri M.
Teri working the phones at a Chesterfield, MO phone bank
Teri is a seasoned political activist. She told me she had been working in politics since she was eight years old when she stuffed envelopes for her mother who went to work for candidates in Kansas City.
When Teri retired two years ago from teaching in Special Education, she set several goals for herself. One of those was to get involved with the Obama campaign. She jumped right in with both feet and soon found herself in charge of volunteer recruitment at the Des Peres Organizing for America office for the 2008 election.
Teri ramped up during the election, and hasn’t slowed down since. She is now a dedicated volunteer for Organizing for America. When I asked her why she had stayed involved, she said, “I’m here because I think it is our best hope.”
In addition, Teri noted how proud she is to have President Obama in the White House.
“He has accomplished so much in a short time. I’m particularly excited about the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Sonia Sotomayor’s appointment and Elena Kagen’s nomination [to the Supreme Court]. I think his promotion of women is very important.”
Laughing, Teri noted that she thought it didn’t hurt that the President had Michelle in his corner.
OFA is not Teri’s only political activity these days. She is an assistant for Missouri’s 82nd District Representative Jill Schupp, and this year she was appointed to the Governor’s Council on Disability.
Teri is just one of hundreds of Missouri volunteers working to turn Missouri Blue in November.
No this is not a joke or a snark. This is real. They do wish to strip the president of the United States, Barack Obama, of his US citizenship for having received the Nobel prize, but what they don't know is that if they could actually do that, then they would also have to strip Ronald Reagan (and whole bunch of their heroes) of his citizenship. Ronald Reagan received a royal honor from Queen Elizabeth, II.
Reagan Given KnighthoodOn June 14, 1989, former President Ronald Reagan received another honor when was given a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth. While President, Reagan was on of the architects of the new relationship between East and West. Ronald Reagan was also the oldest man to be elected to the office at age of 73.

The Iowa Republicans are seriously considering the ratification of the ORIGINAL 13th amendment to strip Barack Obama of his citizenship and the presidency.
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/07/iowa_gop_calls_to_reintroduce.html
Part of the original 13th amendment of the Constitution reads, “If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive or retain any title of nobility or honor, or shall, without the consent of Congress accept and retain any present, pension, office or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them."
“The amendment was ratified by 12 states but never got the 13th state that it needed, and thus, never became law,” Jason Hancock at the Iowa Independent wrote in a recent article.

HERE IS A QUESTION: WAS THERE EVEN A STATE OF IOWA DURING 1812? NOPE. "IOWA" BELONGED TO FRENCH, BACK THEN. SO MAYBE THE IOWA REPUBLICANS ARE GETTING READY TO EAT LOTS OF SNAILS, MAYBE? IF WE MUST UNDO EVERYTHING SINCE THEN?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YES FOLKS, THE "BIRTHERS" COULDN'T GET THEIR SHIT STICK SO NOW THEY ARE "THIRTEENTHERS" TRYING TO STRIP THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, BARACK OBAMA, FROM HIS CITIZENSHIP BY RATIFYING THE ORIGINAL 13TH AMENDMENT (WHICH WAS NEVER MADE INTO A LAW) FROM 1812, BEFORE EVEN THERE WAS A STATE CALLED "IOWA." AND THEY DON'T EVEN MENTION RONALD REAGAN'S "KNIGHTHOOD" AWARD FROM THE BRITISH QUEEN...
BIZARRE? YOU BET. IT IS BEYOND BIZARRE. BUT IT IS A VERY GOOD REASON FOR US TO...
VOTE IN NOVEMBER!

I really like the timeless quote from that great thinker Plato about Heroes. It goes like this.
"THINK OF YOURSELVES AS HEROES, AND SENSE WHAT HERORIC DEED YOU CAN PERFORM TODAY."
Some ancient advice and some qualities needed for our emerging heroes:
1. "We need to go way beyond all this fear and suspicion, and consider them to be derived from ignorance.
2. At the same time what is essential is vigilance and caution, qualities that belong to an enlightened consciousness.
3. The unwise will see caution as suspiciousness, and vigilance as fearfulness, thus lowering the best qualities to a shameful level. But the wise will understand where caution is needed, based upon clear insight.
4. In a world that is torn by confusion the careless one is a fool. The sensible one will weigh all causes to determine the true source of harm. He will do this not out of fear, but with courageous resolve.
5. The hero will not overlook the viper at his threshold, knowing that the seed of evil yields poisonous fruit. He will not think it unnecessary to pay attention to a small scorpion, for even out of the smallest can spring the deadliest sting.
6. You have noticed that there are times when one’s ordinary activities are pushed aside by higher concerns. Those concerns often cannot be expressed in words, but the consciousness senses the high degree of tension in space.
7. Fortunately, vigilance can be developed without limit, and one should not hesitate to repeat that at times of highest tension, the highest degree of vigilance must be manifested.
8. It is not fear that compels one to such an affirmation, but a desire to serve in the best possible way.
9. Heroes are born out of this desire. We have spoken about the qualities of the hero, who fortunately can exist in all walks of life."
A hero is a hero even if he lived thousands of years ago or today. Heroes can be women, men and even children. 2010 will require the best in all of us as we face an uncertain future. Every family, neighborhood, community, organization, state and nation needs heroes for them to succeed.
Follow in the linage of greatness, the greatness of the unknown heroes who have shaped the world for the good, the true and the beautiful.
UPDATED: The events have now ended.
Over the coming week, President Obama will meet with auto workers and visit each of our country's three big auto makers. Today, he'll be speaking at Chrysler and GM about how some of the Administration's tough choices to rescue the auto industry have helped save a million jobs for American auto workers.
Listen live to the President's speak at GM at 12:15 p.m. ET, and his remarks at Chrysler at 1:40 p.m. ET:
Just over a year after President Obama made tough decisions to save Chrysler and GM, these companies are returning to profitability, hiring workers, and keeping plants open. And because of the steps the administration and Congress have taken with Cash for Clunkers and the Recovery Act, the industry overall is strengthening.

In Virginia Beach, organizing for the 2010 election is a family affair. At a recent canvass one volunteer brought her teenage son and later took a form to register her daughter; another brought her two young children along as she talked with voters. Check out what OFA Virginia is up to—and then find an event near you and bring your kids, parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles or anyone else who wants to join in. OFA Virginia community organizer Chrisi has more:
"I'm tired of politics as usual in this country, and felt like President Obama was the opposite of that. To change our divided politics, we have to make sure that the people who we registered and voted in 2008 vote again this year because they normally don't vote in the midterms." – Brenda T. from Virginia BeachSaturday in Virginia Beach, families full of Obama supporters came together from around the region to register new voters and spread the word about the critical elections in 2010.Brenda T., a frequent 2008 volunteer, came back out to get herself, her family and her community involved and mobilized in the political process again in 2010. Anita is getting involved with OFA-VA because "I realized that just voting, or writing a check wasn't enough. What appealed to me [about OFA] was that they said that we could organize in our neighborhoods, in our communities." Sticking with the family trend, Anita brought her two young daughters along, who got their first taste of volunteering for President Obama, as well as some “VOTE 2010” stickers.OFA-Virginia will be in every community across the commonwealth this summer, making sure new voters from 2008 make it back to the polls in 2010. We hope we'll see you at an event soon - and bring the whole family!

Sticking with the family trend, Anita brought her two young daughters along, who got their first taste of volunteering for President Obama, as well as some “VOTE 2010” stickers.
OFA-Virginia will be in every community across the commonwealth this summer, making sure new voters from 2008 make it back to the polls in 2010. We hope we'll see you at an event soon - and bring the whole family!
