Gov. Huckabee freed Seattle police slayer

Maurice Clemmons is suspected of shooting four Seattle police officers to death in a Tacoma coffee shop.

According to an article by The New York Times:

In 2000, Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas granted clemency to Mr. Clemmons after he had served 11 years of a 95-year sentence for robbery and burglary convictions on charges prosecuted when he was 17.

I wonder how this will affect Gov. Huckabee's chances in 2012?

AmericaNOchange. I doubt this one gets approved.

Thought I'd better hurry and write this and send it to all groups that

I am still a member of before I am banned here forever. Why would

that happen? you ask. Because I just formed a new group with a little

kid yelling "Hey You" while flipping off the viewer. Hope the president

and his staff gets the message.

The esculation of the war in Afghanistan is the last straw. Three strikes

your out!

First, he keeps the same people on the payroll that got us into this

financial disaster. He let's Bush and Cheney walk scot-free. He continues

to bail out the banks, "all too big to fail" why they screw us in every way.

And tonight on national tv he will try to convience us all that the way to

end the war in Aftganistan is to exculate it. This did not work in Vietnam,

I know, because I volunteered to go there, and it will not work in Aftganistan.

To add insult to injury. The powers that be, the ones backing McCain in

my city in Northern California, are all meeting to determine what the same

good ole boys get to do with local stimulus funds...So my question is?

WHAT THE HELL HAS CHANGED IN AMERICAN PRESIDENT OBAMA?

I am so damned mad right now, I swear, if I could afford it, I'd trade in

my next presidential ballot for a passport.

Truth/untruth

Somewhere between Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, our political system lost its respect for the truth. It got much worse under George W. and has now gone to H in a hand basket when the Republicans lost in 2008. I am reading books by several of Barack's critics in an effort to answer their criticisms. I am finding a mix of fact and fiction that is very hard to separate. It is so much easier to mix the two than it is to separate the truth from the fiction. It reminds me of the marble cakes my mother made when I was a child. She had a ring mold cake pan into which she put alternating rings of vanilla and chocolate batter. Then she removed the rings and swirled the batter before baking the cake.

Even if I do succeed in separating fact from fiction, Barack's critics probably won't listen. Some just want to criticize for any reason or no reason at all. Truth is taking a back seat in current political discussion.

Wishes

From time to time for fun, I like to pretend that I have a magic power that allows me to grant wishes. I limit each recipient to one wish and state that I will fill the wish if I can, but that I cannot fill all wishes. I listen to my co-workers talking, and if I hear a wish, I try to fill it. One co-worker wished for a pack of gum, and I immediately purchased a pack from a vending machine. She was grateful until she learned that she could have wished for a million dollars instead. She wanted to trade, but no deal. Many people ask for money. I am not rich enough to fill their wishes directly, but I do supply a copy of the book, Automatic Millionaire. That book advocates saving by payroll deduction where the employer matches funds going into a 401K. It takes time and effort, but the saver can accumulate a sizable nest egg. Granting wishes takes thought and some resources but it is very satisfying. Try it, you'll enjoy it.

Barack is called upon from all sides to grant all kinds of wishes, some very contradictory. That is why I limit my recipients to only one wish each. It would be hard to grant two wishes that are directly opposite each other. Barack must deal with citizens who want stimulus for jobs at the same time the deficit is reduced. Logically, deficit reduction comes after job stimulus. Barack has the much tougher job of satisfying so many conflicting demands. I wish him luck for his sake and for ours.

Instead of sending more US troops to Afghanistan, I think that the US should enlist the aid and support of Russia. The Russians were there recently before and faced the same enemies we are fighting now. When the Russians left in defeat, they were defeated by the insurgents aided by the US. If we fought as allies this time instead of on opposite sides, we could learn from each others experiences. The terrain in Afghanistan has not changed and the enemy uses the same methods of ambush as before and has only recently added the use of IED's which method they have imported from the fighting in Iraq. Just think what we could accomplish with the US and Russia fighting the insurgents from the north and west and Pakistan attacking from the east. The insurgents would be surrounded. This could be our best chance for success.

I was instructed by the author to read Marx and at this time I do not have the time. Can any reader of this blog respond by posting a comment that the rest of us can use to respond to this charge? More death

In a recent posting, I listed three causes of approximately 118,000 US deaths every year. I am reading Ralph Nader's most recent book, Only the Super-rich..., which I will review as soon as I finish reading it. In the meantime, some numbers just jumped off page 286 and I wanted to share them with you as soon as possible.

Numbers are again approximate

65,000 die each year from air pollution
58,000 die from workplace related disease and trauma
100,000 die from medical negligence or incompetence in hospitals
100,000 die from adverse effects of commercially advertised drugs

That is an additional total of 323,000 added to the originally reported 118,000 for a grand total of 441,000 preventable deaths per year here in the US. Reducing those numbers must be a high national priority.

Death

43,000 died in traffic accidents in 2008.
30,000 die each year from gun shot wounds
45,000 die each year from lack of health insurance

That is a total of 118,000 US citizens dying each year needlessly. What are you going to do about it? Probably nothing unless a friend or loved one falls into one of those three groups and then it will be too late. How many of us are among the walking wounded bearing physical or emotional scars from contact with the results of the above three sources of death?

The NTSA and others have worked for years to reduce traffic fatalities. Now it's the turn of lack of health insurance to receive attention. In a few days or weeks, the US Congress will decide the fate of health care reform. In the immortal words of George W. Bush, " You're either with us or against us." If you are a member of Congress and you don't support health care reform, please get out of the way. If you support health care reform, now is the time to be vocal about it. The opportunity for real reform is a very rare occurrence.

US Constitution

There are 27 amendments to the US Constitution. When an elected official swears to preserve and protect and uphold the Constitution, he or she is swearing to preserve and protect and uphold all of it, not just those amendments favored by some voters, such as the 2nd and the 10th. The first amendment guarantees free speech and religion, the 14th makes you a citizen if you were born in the US, and the 16th added the income tax. The 18th instituted prohibition while the 21st repealed the 18th. The most recent amendment, the 27th, regulates the timing of increases in Congressional salaries.

Opportunity

The US is the land of opportunity. However, not everyone gets an equal opportunity to succeed. Some start life with wealthy parents and some don't. The child of privilege will be able to afford to live in a good neighborhood, enjoy good food and a healthy life style and a quality education. The child of poverty will be denied so many of those things. So much for equal opportunity for all. It's like a race with varying starting positions with the starting point determined by a draw. The slowest racer may be required to go two or three times as far as the fastest. That's not fair.

Baucus,who have dragged this out is reaching the boiling point. We Dems were exhausted after the last election. I fear that we wll be exhausted going into the next election. Even our Dems in Congress are out of touch with those of us on the ground.

Between now and November 2010, Barack's critics will be talking jobs, jobs, jobs. It will be all talk and no cigar. I respectfully suggest that all those talking heads, members of Congress, lobbyists, and think tank members resign their current positions and look for a job in the manufacturing or the service industry. Only with a real job will they be qualified to talk about jobs, jobs, jobs. I wish them luck in finding a job with no REAL job experience in their resumes. Instead of pointless criticism, what the country and the jobless really need is constructive suggestions to reduce unemployment soon.

We wondered what we were getting into because you came out of no where like a shooting star. We were inspired by your willingness to admit you didn’t have all the answers and that you may make mistakes. Some of us have forgotten you said you would work hard to correct them as they came to light. Many have also forgotten you are not a dictator and there are several people with whom you consult, who have a say in the decisions you make and that you just can’t go off on some tangent “all willy-nilly.”

No Mr President, you have to be careful with every step you take and every word you say. You have the weight of the world on your shoulders, and still had time to be a father to this nation.

Sasha and Malia are the luckiest girls in the world, because with everything already on his plate their Daddy took time out of his day to give words of encouragement to millions of kids who may not have had anyone to do that for them. I live in one of the districts where it was decided your message wasn’t important enough to interrupt the school day. Some were given an excused absence so they could be taken out of school and view it off campus, but you had to give them prior notice and I was concerned as to what they would miss.

Today Barack spoke to the assembled AFL-CIO and his words of praise for labor were an indication of what we can expect tomorrow when he addresses the nation's school children and Wednesday when he addresses a joint session of Congress on health care reform. He is fired up and ready to fight for a better America. Let us join him and carry this struggle to a successful conclusion.

What use insurance?

What good is health care insurance? When I was a child, I remember one doctor's visit where he made a house call. We paid $20 in cash which my parents thought was a big deal. My father was the sole bread winner and his take home pay was probably $75-100 per week. We just barely made ends meet. I did not follow the evolution of health care and insurance because I was too young to care.

As an adult, I have watched how dental insurance has changed the dental profession and the charges I must pay. I suspect that it has followed the same path laid out by health care but I am not certain about this. What I pay for dental care has risen, adjusted for inflation, and after insurance, I still must pay a significant amount for dental care. I can afford dental care as long as I still am working, but what will happen when I retire and lack dental insurance?

Who is benefiting from health care and dental insurance? I am not. It must be the insurance companies and the health care and dental providers.

It's about jobs

Why are the health insurers so set against a public option? They fear for their profits and their jobs. But the health insurers do not contribute anything to the economy; they just create paperwork which they then shuffle. Give the top insurance executives their golden parachutes and retrain the rest of the insurance company employees, retraining in productive jobs such as green energy or providing health care services. Offer scholarships and student loans for the necessary retraining. We cannot afford to spend so much of the nation's resources in unproductive jobs such as health insurance.

The Barack I know

I met Barack Obama only once, briefly. However, over the past five years, I have studied him intensely. I have read his books and most of the books written about him. I have watched his interviews, the debates and his live speeches on TV including the Cairo speech which began at 4:15 am mountain time. You cannot begin to get the full impact of his words and the audience reaction from the bits and snippets as presented by the news media. I have attended two of his campaign rallies and seen his stump speech in person.

Barack is the one. Based on all I have seen and read, I have decided that Barack is the one person qualified to rescue the nation from the mistakes made by the previous administration and the Republicans in Congress. Those who protest the man and/or his policies do not know him. I have been a Republican all my life and I first voted in 1964 for Barry Goldwater. I voted for Ronald Reagan three times, twice for president and once for governor. The Republican party is lost in the wilderness and knows now only how to oppose by any means, fair or foul.

Silent Majority demonstration MONDAY - Session/Johnson Forum

Organizing For America (OFA) is going to be pushing out a mass email targeted to much of Dallas to encourage people on Monday morning to participate in a non-confrontational demonstration outside of the Charting America's Health Care Future, with Congresspersons Eddie Bernice Johnson and Pete Sessions' forum. (This forum has been moved from the SMU campus to Cityplace Tower - 2711 Haskell & I-75 in Dallas.) Washington D.C. found out that this is likely the only time that a Dem and Repub Congressional member would be meeting together outside of the beltway to talk about health reform. They recognize that this is an excellent opportunity to showcase the differences between advocates of health reform and the opposition. The call is out for progressives to stage a peaceful demonstration of support. We WILL showcase that difference. The essence of the form of our counter-demonstration is to show the contrast between the raucus misinformation and fear-mongering of the opposition and the quiet rationality and determination of the advocates for health reform. We ask that people dress in plain white t-shirts - a clean, clear symbol of solidarity. People will hold signs with positive affirmations of health reform or corrections of misinformation. None of the nasty stuff. And people will have calm or pleasant facial expressions as they stand mute with their signs. Why? Because in front of them will be a banner with SILENT MAJORITY emblazoned on it, reflecting the true inclination of our country who silently cries out for reform every day. We are going to let the fearful scream and holler as the opposition of everything but the status quo squirms on the wrong side of history. We will be quiet, resolute faces as the world turns in our favor. Trust me, the teabaggers will be more irritated at silent opponents then they would be if we take their bait and get in a shouting match. We will be having a sign making party this Sunday, August 16th from 3pm to 6pm at the Progressive Center office in South Side on Lamar (1409 S Lamar). I've been told the sign-making materials are in the process of being collected by the local OFA chapter, so no worries there. We do need something else, however...

Human life

The media gives us bread, circuses and celebrity shenanigans as a daily diet. It is time to demand that they use some of that time and space for more important matters, such as human life here in the US. We can devote time to saving human life outside the US once we get our own house in order.

All media should present daily a small black-bordered box listing the causes of death and the cumulative totals for each cause from January 1 to date comparing this year with the preceding year. For causes of death, let me suggest the following: motor vehicles, cancer, stroke, abortion, guns, and war. If we quantify deaths and present the data to the voters, I think that we finally will get some much needed action to reduce those totals.

MEDICAL REFORM FOR UNINSURED, UNEMPLOYED, UNDERPAID, UNHEALTHY AND UNHEARD (U5) IS A MUST!

As a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, specializing in the Medical Corps, it is appalling to hear and read about individual opinions that voice or link caring for “We the People” as an excessive cost.

The United States of America must be revitalized and health of her citizens is an excellent place to start. Unsure of all the “buzz, buzz, buzz” floating from select sides of the congressional aisles, tag teaming with select media reporters; whatever the drama is about frankly is unprofessional and irrelevant, however the fact of the matter remains, people are unhealthy, uninsured, unemployed and to date have been unheard. Now is the time to turn all negatives into positives.

Having served my country at a cost of my life and time during Operation Iraqi Freedom and 9/11 the least I can do now is help to serve the people of my state, city, community and neighborhood by working with my President and Commander-in-Chief to ensure people are restored back to a healthier state. Failure to resolve the unhealthy status and maintain a healthy status makes rebuilding a country that has crashed due to poor leadership and guidance into the worse economic catastrophe in history, a waste of time.

Without the contributions of individual people skills at all levels, the United States of America would not be recognized as the most respected country in the world, though many beg to differ with the characteristic of ‘most respected’. It is among the noted super powers still standing, rather weak or strong economy, given the economic downfall as of today. Who cares what the cost is to get people healthy and keep them healthy when we need every able body in this country to contribute their knowledge and expertise to restoration of a broken government that led to the crash in the first place.

Totally sick and disabled people cannot work if they are 100% unemployable due to health reasons. An unemployable person cannot be fixed due to a permanent unhealthy status. There are people that are temporarily unhealthy not by choice, but by virtue of not having medical/dental care coverage. At whatever cost now, we need to fix it now. The amount of debt that this country is in has nothing to do with people who are sick. Of all the countries I have travelled or been assigned, the United States treats its citizens really poorly when it comes to providing health care services and dental care services. This country simply has the right to refuse service to a US born citizen, even if they are terminally ill. Many people have died from terminal diseases that could have survived longer had they been diagnosed sooner. But the right of refusal was authorized by our government to give that power to the hospital, clinic or specialized medical facility. Any patron who sought medical assistance if not insured was refused period.

It is a rather barbaric, ruthless and uncivilized practice to treat a citizen in need of medical attention, dental attention or other help from a place that represents the “Red Cross”. Whoever endorses this belief that it would cost people too much to save a life, and maintain the healthy status of a human being is evil and selfish. I have seen my military peers die from illnesses and injuries resulting from wartime and peacetime service to this country. Some argue that is different; a life or a limb should not be measured with a cost similar to bailing out banks, CEOs and Wall Street. Banks would not have money, CEOs would not have a company and Wall Street would not have investment funds if it were not for people.

It is ironic how cost plays a role in the decision-making process evolved around people getting medical/dental attention. People, who are against medical reform without an alternative solution that will help all, really cannot hear theirselves squander about issues that affect others. Congress really cannot see beyond the walls of the White House or the linings of their suits if they are against medical reform or any reform that will help “We the People”.

It is easy for an individual who has been in a position for so long to lose touch with reality simply because they truly do not listen or associate themselves with all their constituents. Many members of Congress only receive reports from individuals that tell them what they want to hear (filtered), or they may accidentally fall upon the truth (unplugged) and choose to edit the information into a format that makes them look good. The truth of the matter is what sounds good and looks good does not come across as an accuracy that will help the people who are facing a dilemma. Congress tends to fail many of the constituents who need their help the most, and frankly, this office needs to be reformed. Somewhere in the political process, the legislative branch became a corporation that has outsourced certain obligations concerning constituents to a “Black Hole” circle that never gets the life of resolution resuscitated into issues.

In some cases select Members of Congress have gone against any policy, principal, value or belief that involves helping individuals obtain a better posture in an economy, built by design, to cater and be servants to the upper “crust” of the spectrum.

History has a continuous cycle of showing its ugly face through those that are in positions of influence, rather it is at the level of state agencies or local agencies. Look at who is running the local agencies and you will figure out where the influence lies. It has nothing to do with knowledge or education, but rather a network of influence that is responsible for the destruction of this country and the lack of diversity in the workplaces. The terms ‘over-qualified’ and ‘not-qualified’ has a whole new definition when you go to the above mentioned places for services by hired ‘qualified’ people in places that play an important role in the life of others. However, that ugly face has created a complicated system that makes it extremely difficult for individuals/families struggling to make their life better.

The boogey clubs, clothes, money, power, position and overall life of the rich and famous tends to change the depth of one’s peripheral vision. Perhaps the solution to medical reformation as demanded by “We the People” is based on a resolution that requires a reduction in each state representative’s incentive package voting against helping get medical care and dental care for constituents. If select Members of Congress are against helping us low-class folk because of cost, then the Majority Leader and followers should take a massive pay cut, since many feel they are overpaid anyway.

Members of Congress get better benefits and wages than military veterans. Congress need to experience what it is like to live in an economy they designed, endorsed and trying to keep it as they created it. What would this country be like if Members of Congress had to live off the wages and benefits (incentive package) they created for the rest of the US citizens not living in the upper “crust”? Education is not affordable for parents raising their children on minimum wages; therefore the cycle is more likely to repeat itself. Leadership by our President is required in order to break the greed-corruption cycle and to get help to the needy. Failure to lead has resulted in burning records, no records, no system and pure “hip-pocket” responses.

Medical Reform will guarantee that the assistance gets down to the potential patient at all levels. Otherwise, the current system will be like funding, trailers and supplies stored in ‘lost accounts’ and warehouses for uses other than what they were ‘ear-marked’/defined for, getting to Hurricane Katrina victims and the “Big Easy”.

The Medical Reform is a much needed part of rebuilding this country. As a veteran of the United States Armed Forces serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom it is past time to start serving the numerous Americans suffering in my country without question, debate or reservation. Now that I have served my country during wartime and peacetime, I am ready to serve/support the people of my community with whatever service including benefits that they lack to have a normal life, spiraling from poor or no medical benefit package. Many of my peers have died for this country; why not provide Medical benefits to the uninsured who are U.S. citizens, now! What is patriotism? Why do we say or use to say the "Pledge of Allegiance"? What principles was this country built upon? What does this country represent today? What is treason? Where does your loyalty rests and what is it based upon?

"We the People" including leadership, should freely open our mind when making decisions concerning the welfare of other's livelihood when we knowingly/unknowingly see there is a need of an individual, born in this country, who is less fortunate on this land, the United States of America. - n. roberson

Deficits be darned

Republican voices are being raised and crocodile tears shed at the rising federal deficit. During my lifetime, Republican incumbents have a historical record of pumping up the economy every four years to win the White House and if successful, then slamming the brakes on the economy to fight deficits and inflation. Usually their efforts are at the expense of the middle class and the poor, never the fat cats who support them.

Now that they are out of power, the same people who support deficits to win the White House are raising warning flags about the current deficit. I have confidence in the Obama administration that once the economy is firmly on the road to recovery, they will take the needed steps. Healthcare reform is one of the first steps required to combat that deficit.

This event was to call local supporters in the DFW metroplex to invite them to the National Weekend of Service events (June 27-28) and encourage everyone to get involved in the drive for health care reform. The Audacity of Hubris

This week, so-called 'Blue Dog' democrats and centrist GOP members have been meeting secretly and at length to produce proposals meant to derail a central tenet of President Obama's health insurance reform plan, a strong public health insurance option. Available nationwide to anyone who chooses it, such a plan would be able to negotiate with health providers and drug companies on behalf of its members (American taxpayers) and pass on the savings in the form of affordable premiums. Recent surveys show that 73% of voters nationwide (77% Dem, 79% Ind, 63% Rep) support health reform that includes such an option while only 15% are estimated to support reform that does not. So why would middle-of-the-road Democrats and Republicans work so hard to undermine something that most of their constituents desire? Because the disconnect between the motivations of our congressional representatives and the interests of the voters they supposedly represent has never been greater. Healthcare lobbying groups have reportedly committed some $100 Million to be spent over just the next few weeks in an all-out assault on the Obama health care initiative. What percentage of that amount might be destined for the campaign funds of past recipients, many of them part of this GOP/Blue Dog alliance? I'd bet it's safe to guess that it's probably a similar portion of the funds that mortgage industry lobbies mobilized to defeat a measure that would have empowered bankruptcy judges to re-write the loans of millions of homeowners on the brink of foreclosure. The measure was widely seen as the 'teeth' in Obama administration measures to deal with the mortgage crisis, and they were conveniently pulled by the same cadre of legislators now collaborating in rare bi-partisan fashion against the physical welfare of their electors and the American people as a whole. Enough is enough. I just hope that as Democrats we have the guts to field strong primary opponents to the Blue Dogs that share the idealism of our President and not the self-centeredness of this faction so obviously gone astray.

Heatlh Care action meeting June 6th

We had 16 attendees, from our county, Kendall, and two other counties, Kerr and Bexar. We discussed the current health care system and took a head count of those who have private health insurance. There were 3 who had private health insurance. The others are covered by Tricare for Life, Medicare and a federal retiree program. Those were not subject to health insurance programs (employer based, non Medicare), were very concerned that their family members did not have insurance, as well as the fact that a large number of local families, who are not retirees, are uninsured. The overwhelming thought was that we need SINGLE PAYER healthcare, covering everyone.

Obviously we saw the benefits of single payer health care as a way to decrease national cost, cover everyone in the nation, and make our nation more competitive with most of the cilvilzed world, where their populations are covered by national health care.

In addition, we discussed the myth of "socialized medicine" and discussed the benefits of healthcare in other countries, as we were fortunate to have attendees who were originally from other nations and could speak to their health care experiences. In addition, our foreign diplomats (retired) also spoke on their experiences.

We decided to have an event that would hopefully include local Republican health care providers who have seen the difficulties billing for health care reimbursement (ethically speaking) and others that are single payer advocates. We are to seek out the single payer advocates, inviite them to speak June 27th, and invite the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center for blood donations, and teh American Red Cross to discuss CPR/AED. We are not sure if we can accomplish this, but we will try to do so.

Kickoff Success

Organizing for Austin-Central Texas held our healthcare kickoff meeting tonight and it went very well. Our 15 attendees began the planning process for a health care day of service on the weekend of June 27/28.

We decided that the main problem here in Texas is that we have the highest number of uninsured children. We decided to use this as an umbrella over all our service projects in Central Texas. This way, we can volunteer at Children's Hospital (rock the babies), do something with free immunizations, do a baby food/forumula/diaper drive, etc.

Our group members are setting up an event to create a resource list for uninsured children to distribute at several locations around town. Anyone will be able to print this document and take part where ever they'd like to help. They will be putting information up at barackobama.com if you'd like to help with this event.

I encourage all clubs and Austinites to create your own child centered service project for the weekend of June 27/28 to highlight this national day of service. Of course, if you'd rather do something not child-centered, please do! The point is for us to do a healthcare day of service for whatever needs you are moved by.

Health + care is not equal to insurance companies

I though I would post this on here, It's my story and opinion I offered to the President's cause. I hope someone listens.

I am no longer covered under my parents' insurance plan, though I am still a college student. They failed to send a cancellation notice, and instead sent us a bill for my blood work and doctor's visit, totalling about $500. That may not seem like much, but to a poor college student, paying my own way through university with a part-time job, it was a lot. It was definitely a lot to have been forced upon me with no notice. My father and I fought with the company for months before they finally sent a cancellation notice for a later date, thus covering the disputed costs. It was an unnecessary struggle I do not wish to repeat. The result is now, I cannot afford to go to the doctor and when I got flu like symptoms a month ago, all i could do is rest and wait it out. Thankfully it went away after a week. That is now how I must operate. One thing my family is concerned with is that I have a thyroid problem, which left unattended could worsen my general health in the long run. That's what the disputed blood work was testing. However, even if I wish it, I cannot afford to do anything about that situation. Even before I had to worry about my lack of health coverage, the idea of profiting off of health offended me deeply. I am against the idea of insurance which adds middle-man bureaucracy only concerned with how wide their profit margins can grow. Health care should be a right and not a privilege for the wealthy. I support the idea of a single payer system, where my taxes are raised to pay for my health care. I believe, in this system, it would be easier to implement a PREVENTATIVE health care system which would save us more costs preventing serious illness early. Please, Congressmen and women, for once consider what is best for our society as a whole, regardless of concerns about re-election bids being affected. If re-election is your main agenda, then you are not truly representing the people. I implore you to create a system to benefit the future of America. That's for what your elected position is meant.Power with inaction, isn't power at all. Thank you, and I hope to the fruits of your labor soon. A deeply concerned citizen, Lindsey Allen,

I am amazed at how desperate the far right media has become the very thing they claim the left media was. Now they refuse to recognize the huge amount of drug use that is happening in America. It's like they want to take a blind eye on crime to further a political Agenda. They refuse to see the drug use done by Americans. They want to pretend it isn't happening. They are saying it's un American to recognize the harm buying drugs causes. This is going to cause a conflict with their own followers since some of them have to in real life defend themselves from the very drug business that puts their republican followers into harm.

I can understand why Rush Limbaugh doesn't want to recognize illegal drug use, it's great way to cover up his own indiscretions. Sean Hannity is now completely gone insane. It's almost like they are trying to sweep the drug problem in America underneath the rug. I'm sorry but most of America know where the drug cartels are, and know they travel to America to sell their product.

To say that we as American aren't buying drugs is saying that there is no drugs in America. That would mean all the deaths didn't happen from overdoses, all the cops that died from drug dealers and those stoned on drugs didn't happen.

Why is Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity trying to make the Drug Dealers look good by saying it's UnAmerican to say what the problem really is? Why are they defending drug dealers?

Does Rick Perry have the Right to Terminate 23 million American Citizenships?

Does Rick Perry really have the right to even hint at seceding from the US without speaking to the constituents first. There have been a lot of people who have died for America from Texas, and I'm sure their families don't want somebody trying to use their citizenship as a bargaining chip for one persons political career.

As a matter of fact I am sure there are many in Texas who don't want anyone in the Texas Government messing with their US citizenship at all. Taking your personal beliefs and expecting your constituents to follow them is not the democratic way. The Texas governor is not in a seat of royalty. He is to follow the will of the people. He does not have the right to determine who is to be a US citizen.

Not to mention the Dollars and Federal Military bases. Maybe the Federal Government should talk to Texas about withdrawing all the United States faculties such as military bases, and the Airports that were built with all 50 state American Tax Money.

If Texas leadership doesn't want to be apart of the United States, isn't that about being UnAmerican. Does the Governor have the right to terminate the Citizenship of millions of Americans? Since he has been given this thought, will he allow people to leave Texas if they wish to remain US Citizens? Will he pay back the US Government for all their faculties, equipment, roads, and funding that has been spent in Texas?

Organizing for Austin-Central Texas Pledge Rally

It was a perfect day in Austin to have our kick off event for Organizing for America - Central TX Region. Not only was the weather perfect, but we also had some incredible events going on in Austin that made for great, captive crowds. This was the last weekend for the South by Southwest festival so our downtown area was packed with festival goers from all over the country.

We were hoping for about 30 volunteers to show up to our rally, we had 35 yes rsvps and another 25 maybes, but we only ended up with 13. It was a great 13 though, very fired up and ready to go and gather support for the President.

Our rally location was a restaurant patio, Scholz Garten, and unfortunately it was a little loud to hear the video training, but they gathered around to listen to every word.

We sent people out in pairs to several high traffic locations and met back at Scholz's after 3 hours of canvassing. We got a total of 408 pledges from this location and another 30 from two other locations in our area. All in all, a very positive day in Austin!

Hello fellow voters,

Call your insurance agent and change your policy form AIG to another carrier (Probably better to pick a respectable mutual insurance company, ex.. Guardian, Mass Mutual, Northwestern Mutual, New York Life). AIG is not going to apologize or correct their misuse of our tax dollars, unless we lower their amount of the policies in force dollars. So, if you are really upset change your policy, I don't care if its life, long-term care, short and long term disability, auto, or health insurance. Just hit them where it works and let’s ask the President to put a special tax on AIG and or request for all our money back. Let’s make an example out of AIG, to set a standard for all other financial and non-financial firms.

Please people lets use common sense when changing your policy, make sure you apply, get the underwriters acceptance, and the in-force policy with the final policy letter, then cancel your AIG policy. This process should take 20 to 30 days.

This is why I love my new president. He gets it.

He knows it isnt about the money -- $165M, as much as it is to the ordinary individual, is a rounding error in the $700B TARP Bailout, or the $787B Stimulus Package, but the principle is vitally important here. The principle being that it is time to stop the wildly outrageous corporate bonuses, especially in the egregious case of AIG, which would be bankrupt if not for a massive $170B government bailout.

There are plenty of people out there who aren't getting any bonus. There are plenty of people who are losing their jobs. There are plenty of people who are taking a salary/wage cut. There are plenty of people who are going without a salary increase.

At a time of widespread economic distress, I am once again confident that President Obama is completely aware of this, and is taking actions to both get our economy back on track, and executive compensation back in balance.

God Bless Barack Obama. God Bless the United States of America.

Inability to Stop AIG Bonuses is a LIE!!!

I have been and continue to be a strong supporter of Barack Obama and his new administration. However, I cannot in good conscience accept the payout of $165M in bonuses to AIG executives and employees, due to "previous legal contractual obligations".

I am an engineer and not a lawyer, but I can't imagine that under these extraordinary circumstances, there really is an obligation to pay out bonuses to a company that has already been the recipient of $170B in government money. Obviously , the company would have gone bankrupt without the government intervention. Needless to mention the fact that this situation was due to a certain extent to the actions of those very executives in line for these bonuses.

I am suspicious that the real reason behind the excuses is a reluctance to "chase away" some of the top executives at AIG since these bonuses have been termed by some to be "retention bonuses". I really wonder how true that is also. These people should be thankful that they still have a job, and are not in jail! Forget about a multi-million dollar bonus.

In addition to the doubts I have about the competence of these individuals, I am also of the view that they are liable for criminal and civil penalties. So, if we the taxpayer, keep getting lied to and told that the bonuses must be paid, then criminal and civil penalties should be pursued against all those who accept them.

The committee said the taxes arise from Kirk's handling of speaking fees that he donated to his alma mater, and for his deduction of the full cost of season tickets to the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball team.

The disclosure made the former Dallas mayor the latest in a string of top-level Obama administration appointees found to have underpaid their taxes, following Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Tom Daschle, who withdrew as candidate for Health and Human Services secretary. Tom and I hosted an Economic Recovery House Meeting on Saturday, February 7, 2009. We host all our meetings at Tom and Glen's home. We had 9 participants. We knew what to expect as we have hosted a few meetings. The new comers are not quite sure how this is going to work and are a little shy. The old timers are looking for the snacks and grabbing their favorite spot. The introductions and hospitality of Tom and Glen put everyone at ease.

We introduce ourselves and tell why we were motivated to get out on a Saturday afternoon to talk politics. For the new attendees the over whelming comment was anger at how the process of passing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Package(ARRP) was proceeding. Their next reason was the inclusiveness of the Obama campaign and wanting to be a part of this movement.

We passed out the ARRP Texas impact sheet. We watched Gov. Tim Kaine's video (twice) because people and a lot of questions and were taking notes. We had a great discussion about the video, the process in Washington, and what we as a group could do going forward.

The main question (because we are in Texas) was, "Is trying to do anything worth it since we know our representatives don't represent us?" We gave them a resounding YES. You still must call and voice your opinion, because they are saying that none of their constituents are for this package.

Another issue was about the actual projects that are going to get approved. How does that work. I told them about the mayors list. They wanted to know if those lists included the most needy areas of our community or just the mayors pet projects. Which projects would get priority with the committee? They definately wanted to make sure that the most needy areas of the city were addressed. I was tasked with finding the list of projects. They were concerened about balancing the budget. My explanation was "You can't talk about a plan for balancing the budget, before you know how much of a hole you are going to have to dig out of." Also, it takes 2-3 years to get out a situation like this.

Our first timers felt more informed about the facts surrounding the ARRP and better equipped to answer questions from their family, friends and associates.

Our immediate action item was to call, fax, e-mail or write our representatives at their DC office and/or their local Texas office.

Our economy is a mess, and taxpayers are being expected to foot the bill. I have no problem paying may fair share, business or personal, but how do we know they won’t squander those funds too?

I don’t know about you, but I’m thouroughly disgusted with how things are turning out. Companies like Enron, WorldCom and others have been allowed to walk away from the havoc, some have not even got a slap on the wrist.

Why can’t the government require these individuals to payback all the money above their regular income? I don’t advocate taking from the rich and giving to the poor, but as a business owner I don’t get a bonus if the company is in financial trouble.

��Why are Senate Republicans (all, that is, except the lonel y moderates Collins, Snowe, and Specter) nixing the stimulus package, as House Republicans did? Not because Obama failed to compromise - he gave them the tax breaks they wanted, included a whopper for business. Not because Senate Democrats failed to bend - they agreed to trim more than $100 billion out of a previous version of the bill. Not because Senate Republicans are doctrinally opposed to deficit spending - many of them happily voted for Bush spending and tax cuts that doubled the federal debt.

��The reason has to do with the timing of the economic recovery. If everything goes as well as possible and the stimulus and next round of bank bailouts work perfectly, a turnaround could begin as early as mid-2010. But even under this rosy scena rio, employers wouldn't start rehiring until late 2010 because they'll want to be sure the upturn is for real (employment typically lags in a recovery). This means that under the best of circumstances - assuming the stimulus is big enough to jump-start the economy and the next bank bailout big enough to get credit moving - most Americans won't feel much better than they do now by November, 2010. Unemployment could easily be hovering close to 8 percent; underemployment, close to 14 percent; and many other indicators, still in the doldrums.

��That's if all goes extremely well. But what if the stimulus isn't big enough? (I fear it won't be, given the large and growing gap between what the economy can produce at near full-employment and the meager demand coming from consumers and businesses.) And what if the bailout doesn't quite work? (It may not, given that the banking system is collapsing and many banks are actually insolvent.) The economy in November of 2010 may be worse than it is now, with no turnaround in sight.

��Which brings us to the midterm elections of 2010.

��Yesterday, while sitting across from Newt Gingrich on George Stephanopoulos's Sunday morning television show, 1994 came roaring back into my head. Gingrich, you remember, turned that mi dterm election into a national referendum about Bill Clinton's leadership. (No one today remembers what was in Gingrich's "Contract with�America," but almost no one did then, either.) Because Clinton's presidency had had a rough start and because House and Senate Republicans had kept remarkable unity in opposing him at almost every turn, Gingrich in the election of 1994 could claim that and the Republican Party offered a clear alternative, and had earned the chance to control Congress.

��Fast forward to today and listen to Senate Republicans referring to the stimulus: "This is neither bipartisan nor is it a compromise, " said Sen. John McCain this morning. "It is ... generational theft" that will increase the role of government and provide no mechanism for paying back the money. Sen. Mike Enzi said the package "spends everything we've got on nothing we're sure about. I'm supposed to be giddy that we're only spending $827 billion.�Frankly, I've had enough of this bailout baloney." Sen. Tom Coburn's office released a list of projects that he calls earmarks and pork, totalling more than $55 billion. And so it went today.

��Last week, House Republicans were equally vitriolic.

��And wait until they hear about the next stage of the bank bailout. I'd be surprised if more than a handful of House or Senate Republicans support it.

��Republicans don't want their fingerprints on the stimulus bill or the next bank bailout because they plan to make the midterm election of 2010 a national referendum on Barack Obama's handling of the economy. They know that by then the economy will still appear sufficiently weak that they can dub the entire Obama effort a failure - even if the economy would have been far worse without it, even if the economy is beginning to turn around. They'll say "he wanted mor e government spending, and we said no, but we didn't have the votes. Elect us and we'll turn the economy around by cutting taxes and getting government out of the private sector."

��Obama believes Republicans will eventually embrace bipartisanship. I hope he's right but I fear he's wrong. They want to take back Congress the way Newt Gingrich retook the House (and helped Republicans retake the Senate) in 1994 - with hellfire and brimstone. Once in control of Congress, they'll be able to block Obama's big inititiaves on health care and the environment, stop any Supreme Court nominees, and set up their own candidate for the White House in 2012.

The Community Action Network is yours to use to make all our dreams come true. Our election of President Obama was only a beginning. Lets go to work. Government 2.0 is our participatory citizens "real time" responsibility. The Internet makes this new phase of our American Expierment (Benjamin Franklin's words) at Self Government possible. The Community Action Network is a Post Partisan Cooperative of Individuals and Groups Assembled as Protected by the Second Ammendment. Out primary tool of community defense is our vote. We are not to arm into Militia, rather assemble, and vote as we see fit to protect the health and welfare of our Communities. Residency within a Legal County is required, as is voter registration.
At this time the Membership, Events, Blog posts, and all List Servers are moderated until further notice. We have construction to do before we open up for Community Action. This is a National Network of State Networks of County Networks of All MyBO Groups within every County of our United States. Our .CAN organization is not any political party. I.) Rules of Participation:
Barack Obama asked his initial campaign staff to make three commitments, and then welcomed them all to try what appeared impossible at the time. I repeat these now as you must commit to these in your heart now, before you begin your work, individually and collectively.
1.) Honesty.
2.) No Drama.
3.) Have Fun.
Marshall Ganz tought us the three rules of Community Organizing at Camp Obama. The Obama for America Presidential Campaign graduated over 20,000 of us at those events. We hope to repeatedly deliver a new Camp to your groups over the Internet. Our plan is to deliver this training to all twice a year forward. Grassroots Camp 2.0 will be tooled to Government 2.0, where as the original expierence was focused on Community Organizing around an Election. Stay tuned as this is true grasstroots triaining for your local teams. There are many policy aspects of your Governments, which you may want to change, which are not election based activites. Regardless, Marshall gave us the three Rules of Efective Community Organizing.

5.) Empower.
6.) Include.
Barack Obama asked us to study, to work at, and become the Change we were waiting for. Core to all Barack's teaching and leadership is a concept of Empathy. When you read and re-read his books, this theme is a thread that is woven throughout his writing. So we require your best attempt at:
7.) Empathy.
Membership in the .CAN Network is a privilage and not a right. Name calling, foul language, and hurtful conduct, speech and written words are good cause for two warnings by any Administrator and then removal upon any third violation. This is not a joke.
Appeal to your local .CAN group at any monthly group meeting as a "Housekeeping Item" is the only point of appeal to your group. And all groups are to allow group re-entry upon apology. Sometimes a few weeks or months off, is all anyone needs to repair their attitude.

II.) Communications and Administrative Structure:
We have a Network, of Networks (50 States), of Networks, (3,071 Counties), of Networks (All MyBO Group Members of All MyBO Groups in that County.
We also will open a Network of all Colleges and Universities as stand alone .CAN Groups, which are welcome to participate as stand alone groups and elect delegates to our State Assemblies and National .CAN Congress. The Students have asked us for this, so be it.
We also will open a Spanish Language set of .CAN Groups, where that language will be used.
As needed - all other Language .CAN Groups are welcome to set up their own Groups and join in the Quarterly Countywide MyBO Membership Assemblies.
Each MyBO County.State.CAN Group will host an all inclusive Quarterly Assembly of all MyBO Members in there County. Our Charter to set up this network required we not compete with existing groups, and include all who wanted to join us.
All MyBO Groups are welcome to elect two Delegates to our Bi-Annual State MyBO Group Assemblies, and those same delegates are welcome to our Annual National MyBO Citizens Congress. Our State Umbrella Groups will meet in our various State Capitols. Our National Congress will meet in Washington DC. Each set of Delegates will include one voting Delegate and one Alternate.
Each Group is Autonomous and Self Supporting. We are Volunteers. Any service compensation for expenses is up to each group. The State Groups are welcome to sponsor any Delegate who may not have the resources to participate. We are inclusive and not exclusive.
To be a member, any person must agree to abide to the best of their ability and capacity, to our seven core principles stated above.
Each Group will maintain two or more Group Administrators and one or more Communications Directors.
The Group Administrators will oversee the interface to MyBO and the other .CAN Groups. Group Administrators will admit and remove members and are empowered to make thier indepentant decisions. The local Group Membership can override and change any arbitrary decison made between meetings.
The Communications Directors will moderate the List Servers as quickly as possible.
Where Groups grow to large - they may further sub devide their counties as they see fit.
All Groups will meet once a month as we suggest the use of our Standardized Meeting Format.
This is not a legal organizational entity at this point. Agreements as to legal form are left to the membership for future decisions. All I have done is design the structure to give to you. What you do with it is up to you.

III.) Processes and proceedures:
In Each Group Blog, you will find three postings which we require you keep posted on your Community Blog for all to reference:
1.) The Suggested Meeting Format for Monthly Meetings. You can archive meeting notes and records on Google Docs as shared files for all to see.
We recommend Setting up a Group Membership Spread sheet on Google Docs as well, as we share our Names, Addresses, Phone Numbers, Email Addresses, and other public data and notes with all members in each Group.
The State Group Data and Membership Directory of Elected Delegates and Officers will be maintained on Google Docs as as shared file - open to Delegates only.
The National Registry of all State Delegates will be also open to all Elected Delegates - as a shared file. Transparency is critical and we lead by example.
No Delegate shall share the group data.
There shall be no solicitation of contributions or commerce on any Group List Server.
2.) The Two Year Schedule, created by the founding .CAN Group in San Francisco, California on December 13, 2008. We are all to synch to this schedule for all our use. You can set up your List of Officers - terms and when you have your group elections on a shared Google Doc as well for the reference of your group.
3.) The Link List of All MyBO Groups in your County.State.CAN Group shall be created, posted and maintained by your County Group Adminsitrators. We promised Chicago MyBO HQ we would create and maintain an Umbrella Protection and inclusion of all MyBO Groups with clear inter-group level of respect, empowerment, and inclusion.
The Link List of All MyBO County Groups in your State shall be created, posted and maintainted by your State.CAN State Group Administrators. The Groups are open to do as they see fit within this structure and may advocate as the see fit. This is post partisan politics.

New Haven House Meeting-Mobilizing

So the die hard Obama supporters are at it again. We're trying to stimulate the populous to stimulate the economy. Is anybody listening is the real question.

American citizens wanted a change. We voted to continue to create a more perfect union and it is becoming difficult to articulate what exactly is standing in the way.

It has occurred to me that people don't read history. Maybe most American Republican Senators aren't aware of Herbert Hoover's ineffective, "too little too late" attempts at balancing the budget in the first years of the Great Depression. Does Hawley Smoot Tarriff ring any bells? Well, Hoover was certain that protective tariffs and "buy American" legislation, could stave off a decline in domestic production and sales. This can't be our wrong doing causing a world depression. It must be the Europeans, he seemed to believe. WRONG.

Hoover also didn't believe in government aid to relieve human suffering. If you don't have a job, call a volunteer organization. I guess it didn't occurr to him that many volunteers and do gooders had lost their jobs and couldn't keep working the evening soup kitchen when their own families didn't have dinner on the table. Maybe he wasn't aware that the super rich philanthropists stopped handing money out after their personal assets had been relatively crushed with the stock market crash. When he finally got around to realizing, "golly" the masses need a little help, he wanted to use trickle down economics. This was in the form of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in 1932. It was a loan authority for railroads, banks and municipalities to keep them from collapsing. He did adhere to the belief, to the bitter end that the richest would spend enough to get the economy moving enough to let the lowly middle class and the poor have enough to eat to keep them from revolting.

Well, I think that mindset is revolting. I just can't figure out why it's happening all over again and the only people that seem to be angry we are not passing the stimulus plan before all hell breaks lose are the workers. Everybody loses if we have a depression.

It seems to me, not that it matters, that President Obama doesn't realize how many millions he could mobilize if we had a clear direction. We can get him elected but now we need to overturn the Washington media establishment that makes light of the idealists that elected him. We should all be deeply offended. John McCain should not be trying to block him. Arizona needs this bill as much as Connecticut. We need a campain of bright articulate people that can converge on Washington and have a rally that the media will not discredit.

Middle class people will become poor. The poor willl be desperate. But the rich, the rich will be just fine.

Because of all the new digital channel frequencies there is a broad spectrum of program opportunities for broadcasters, sponsors and the listening and viewing audience. These new technologies open up a broad spectrum of new venues allowing the radio-talk call-in programs to merge with television channels and with the Internet in both video and audio formats. This results-in by far the best audience reach compared to the use of one type of broadcast frequency format.
The quality of our mass communications is a high-level determinant of the quality of our lives and our eventual destinies. Nearly everything we know, do and achieve is communicated through our eyes, our ears and other sensory organs. This is why all forms of radio and television broadcasts represent our most important resource toward beneficial change for all of humanity.

A large percentage of America's problems have been due to the lack of transparency in government and corporate affairs, resulting in needless wars and economic inequities.

Our government gave the big finance companies $750 billion without stipulations as to how it was to be used, now they have given broadcasters are public owned digital frequencies without stipulations or guidance in the way that they are to be used for the public interest, need and necessity.

Over the air television broadcasting is a virtual wasteland. There is little or no utility value content in broadcasting programs. The hierarchical intelligentsia's voice in broadcasting has failed the owners of the broadcast frequencies & has also failed the global citizenry. This failure has cost our global community trillions of dollars of loss & untold suffering, it is time for the owners of the frequency resources to have unbridled access to broadcast over the new digital channels.

Government of, by and for the people cannot function in the interests' and needs of the people unless they have some control over the dissemination of content on their public owned broadcast frequency airwaves. We cannot permit these new government licensed digital frequencies to be used or squandered in non-essential unproductive content.

We need interactive programming content that involves telephone talk, the merging of radio, television and the Internet, in order to reduce the use of energy and toward rebuilding our economic communities from the ground up.

Here is a rough draft of the cooperative type plan for putting america back to work fast, and promoting Social Justice, and Democracy.

The plan comprises several aspects and each may be implemented separately.
Cooperatives:

Cooperatives are built on communities. That is they may be regional communities as well as they may be trade communities. Each community is open to capital inflow from anyone in the society, limited to a ceiling to avoid concentration of power in some hands. Each member of the community is entitled to grants by government to enable the start of the community or its continuity.

Let's say each worker laid off from DHL received a $5000 grant from the government and together they form a similar service. Among the 1000 workers fired, they can receive collectively a grant totalling $5,000,000 to start their own company. What ever they chose to do, this is a welcome addition to their community and they would start training some other people to work with them, and employ many other people.

Further more, their business will encourage satelite businesses around it. If each of the 70 000 workers laid off yesterday received just 1000, it would mean $70,000,000 start up funds for any idea in the community.

If they received $5000 each, they may be able to start their own credit union, with a fund of $350,000,000. and start lending money to the community right away.

Of course every community will know what they need, and the government can help in that too, by sending graduates from from various universities and a professor as a mentor, to find out what each commuty is interested in, and help them to implement it, with the help of the government.

There are many versions of this same work, some of them working around the credit unions or around the labor unions, as well as the independent communities, cities, states. Whether these ideas will be done to promote one member's idea or the community's innovative endeavor, that is left to the community and what they are able to come up with.

Ireland has announced that it is taking this path. Germany has been implementing this around the world for a long time. With the way america does business, success is more likely here than anywhere else.

I received a scholarship from one of those organizations myself some years ago.

In so doing, we are going to strengthen our communities and their capacity to participate in our development, in turning this economy around and in participating in democracy. It will also help this country get rid of some of the old structures of injustice since the communities will all have a $1000, $5000, $10,000, ... per person to tackle the recession. The more people in a community, the greater their capital to start and run their business. As a consequence, communities will be encouraged to include more people, and they would be equal since each person can take away their money but must send it to another community.

It would encourage the promotion of peaceful cohabitation, democracy values and equal rights to socio-economic development and a more sustainable use of our tax bail out dollars.

This program would give power to society's disadvantaged, who would be owners of capital for the first time in this capitalist country.

Recovery would only happen if all people would participate. Giving money to the banks would never be lent to people who don't have a job, or can't repay for any reason. Many would not benefit from tax cuts because they are/have been out of work for many years.

Giving a grant to society members would create jobs as entrepreneurs, or as consumers. This program would put people back to work, but also help communities take charge of their own communities, and creates a focus for continuous, united and diversed development of our society.

Who qualifies? Anyone who has a talent to contribute, Anyone who has no job, has a job that pays below, or at poverty threshlold, and belongs to a community of interest.

Who votes? Members of a community of interest have equal voting rights.

Disposition of the funds: The funds are not paid to individuals; a Certificate for these funds is paid directly to the groups' account, and the persons are notifited. They present the certificate to participate in the running and/or decisions of the entity.

Promoting these values and principles/practices around the world.

This program may be applies all around the world americans can be sent to promote economic development, peace, promote and safeguard democracy, social justice and socio-political develoment.

Pay the Bill and Keep the CHANGE

Let’s be honest. We didn’t really expect Congress to come up with a "bold" stimulus plan, did we? But do we agree that NO action will only aggravate our current crisis?

The GOP surprised us when it failed to respond more constructively to the bipartisan overture from Barack Obama. I personally witnessed the precedent-setting bipartisan dinner for his defeated opponent (my photo of the President-elect at the dinner honoring McCain, January 19) and noted the subsequent meetings with Congressional Republicans. And what did we get in the way of proposals from the loyal opposition? More of the dogma-driven, supply-side ideology that contributed to our current mess: tax cuts!

On the other hand, GOP critics have a point: the bill that passed the House and was embraced by Obama essentially is an accumulation of favorite Democratic spending proposals.

What is missing is CHANGE. The CHANGE Obama advocated in his campaign for the Presidency. The CHANGE that won him a resounding mandate to govern for four years. The CHANGE from policies that have worked to benefit few and imperil many. Where are the first steps toward affordable health care, a sustainable green economy and alternative energy? And why are we not moving boldly to address the systemic failures that underlie the current crisis in credit markets?

Obama asked for ideas. And Paul Krugman and Robert Reich, among others, obliged. But what these brilliant men offer is predictable: rationales for orthodox Keynesian solutions and concern about labor market distortions, respectively. More is needed, not just in additional spending, but in fresh ideas that advance the President's policy agenda. So, if suggestions are still welcomed, here is my two-cents worth. And please do keep the CHANGE.

Health Care

Obama has promised the nation affordable health care similar to his own Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), to be available to all by the end of his first term. There is no need to back off this goal. Health care is one of the largest drags on our economy and the stimulus bill provides a real opportunity to begin managing its cost. In addition to the bill’s provisions to help state governments fund Medicare and work projects, I suggest that the federal government reimburse all state and local governments for their employer's share of health care for the rest of this year. In exchange, recipients may not fire government workers and must commit to integrating their health care plans with the existing FEHBP starting in 2010. That provides additional and immediate financial assistance to state and local governments, while paving the way for the establishment of a Public Employees Health Benefits Program. By January 2010, the federal government’s negotiated health care program would expand its base and economies of scale. The next step will be to apply the system to businesses, and subsequently to capture the un- and under-insured.

Energy Independence

Most honest leaders recognize that in due course government will have to produce the substantial additional revenue to pay for the stimulus. But good luck finding a politician willing to propose increasing taxes of any kind. So let me suggest instead a hefty tariff on imported oil to fund the “green economy.” A tariff of 50 percent or more on the landed cost of all imported energy (probably with some form of accommodation for our NAFTA partners) can be justified because of national security as well as the external costs to our environment inherent in the use of fossil fuels. And such a levy would promote conservation, subsidize domestic production, and help to fund and protect our investments in alternative energy. This is a measure that should be welcomed by Republicans who advocate "drill, baby, drill” as well as environmentalists interested in promoting clean energy. The windfall earned by American producers could be invested domestically or taxed as profits. And while there may be a marginal increase of fuel cost at the pump, it will pale in comparison with the amounts we forked over to foreign potentates rather than our own Treasury these past few years, when oil was effectively 200% greater than its current price.

Reestablish a ‘Risk-Free’ Investment Benchmark

Explanations for our current credit crisis and financial market meltdown abound, including the Washington Post's excellent series. But absent from all the expert analyses is any mention of the Treasury Department's October 2001 decision to discontinue issuing 30-year Bonds. That decision, on the heels of 9/11 and the cusp of Bush's costly war on terror, both lowered mortgage yields and prompted increased sales of bundled mortgages marketed as alternative 'risk-free' instruments, which in turn fueled the housing bubble and distorted both government and corporate credit point spreads. Treasury Bond auctions have resumed, but a clear provision to finance America’s recovery through borrowing would repair yield spreads – both between short and long term sovereign debt and in relation to all other debt instruments. Transparent budget financing will help re-establish more realistic risk pricing and global confidence in the US economy. But the 30-year Bond will not regain its position as a benchmark for 'risk-free' long-term investment if Fed meddling in the market, as it proposes to do with its planned purchase of Treasuries from troubled banks. In fact, this central-bankers-gone-wild approach will only create a greater Treasury bubble that will seriously aggravate our problems. Once markets are allowed to properly price the cost and risk of our recovery without Fed manipulation, global confidence in the US economy has a chance to be recover.

So Pay the Bill, and Keep the CHANGE

But we the people have started to recognize what has happened, what has gone terribly wrong and that there is a lot we have to fix.

Your moral authority is badly tarnished and waning.

Your principles of the unquestioning obedience to authority, the “you’re on your own” view of those not like you, the blind support of the imperfect free market, and the insistence on pull yourself up - are on their way out.

Your belief in direct causation and a male dominated identity limits your understand of all those who voted Democrat.

Your preference for profits and profiteering over supporting the common wealth, which helped create the profit, says clearly that helping we the people is secondary to your helping corporations.

Your insistence on turning over governance of we the people to corporations means our safety, education, welfare, health and security are secondary to profits.

Your ideas for what is right for America are wrong. Your ideas are not what the authors of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution had in mind when they broke with the single-party authoritarian rule of England. In fact, your ideas are probably the same as the Loyalists of the late 1700’s.

The bottom line is that “conservatives without conscience” lack empathy, respect and responsibility for those fellow citizens not like them - the majority of us. Please stop insisting the you want to do what is right for America. You’ve had decades to prove that your ideas work but they have failed. You can’t pass the buck for our situation to others below you. You and your recently departed leaders are entirely responsible for the mess we are in.

Please stop your petty attempts to delay our inevitable change and start helping to fix what you broke.

We no longer want what you have to offer.

We now have a man in the White House who believes in science. That's a sea-change right there. We now have a man in the White House who won't call the Constitution a "goddamned piece of paper."

And finally, we have a man with intelligence who can speak in complete sentences. Hell, that's new, too, lol. And did you listen to that speech? Man, what a scathing indictment of the Bush years. With Bush sitting right there! That was enough to bring me to Full-O.

They're saying two million people showed up for this inauguration. Two million. You'd better take note, GOP.

Early September-The darkest week of the campaign

Although we are almost there, Barack is just hours away from becoming our 44th President, I thought today about the darkest moment of the campaign for me, the beginning of September after the Republican convention when, for the first time all summer, McCain took a lead in the polls.

Candidates usually get a bump in the polls after their parties convention, but this seemed different because 1. Sarah Palin seemed to be causing a surge in McCain's popularity, and 2. a devastating new poll from the Pew Research Center suggested that Barack was lagging behind in the polls because of a lack of support from white Democrats. This Pew Research Institute is a respected and non-partisan organization, so the polling data they released seemed to be irrefutable.

I remember being very angry. How could Democrats do this to our candidate, and to our country? One of our local pastors, the great Freddy D. Haynes, addressed the issue of the poll and told us to not lose hope. Barack still could win and no matter what, God loves you regardless of color, never let anyone make you feel you are inferior because of your race.

Just days after this, as if by design, our economy sank into a deep recession, the stock market crashed, and John McCain and Sarah Palin showed how clueless and disorganized their campaign, and their minds were. Barack showed the world his wisdom, and his steady hand, ready to guide us through the new reality of a country crippled by economic disaster brought about by Bush and the Republican Congress. With each debate Obama grew in stature and not only took the lead from his opponent, but each week and each poll from then until November 4th Obama increased the gap and seized control of 11 out of 12 battleground states.

Now we are waiting for a day of joy and wonder. The inauguration of a man of justice, wisdom, and hope. We have overcome so much to reach this point, and I am thankful we made it through that dark valley in September.

As to the Bush administration's illegal excesses over the last eight years, there are a few salient options: (1) let bygones be bygones; (2) sic prosecutors after the lawbreakers; or (3) form up a South Africa-style Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

I am starting to lean toward option three. It would have the benefit of partially muting the "Witch hunt!" wing of the naysayers and, above all else, have the power to bring to light all of the illegal things that have been done in our name over the last eight years.

Here's where the action comes in. Representative John Conyers has introduced legislation to create a Truth Commission:

There is established the National Commission on Presidential War Powers and Civil Liberties (hereinafter in this Act referred to as the "Commission") to investigate the broad range of policies of the Administration of President George W. Bush that were undertaken under claims of unreviewable war powers, including detention by the United States Armed Forces and the intelligence community, the use by the United States Armed Forces or the intelligence community of enhanced interrogation techniques or interrogation techniques not authorized by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, "ghosting" or other policies intended to conceal the fact that an individual has been captured or detained, extraordinary rendition, domestic warrantless electronic surveillance, and other policies that the Commission may determine to be relevant to its investigation (hereinafter in this Act referred to as "the activities").

If you want some background on the potential illegality the bill is referencing, check out the new 500-page report that was issued on Tuesday: "Reining in the Imperial Presidency: Lessons and Recommendations Relating to the presidency of George W. Bush".

To date, Conyers' bill has only received 12 co-sponsors. We need to get the word out to Congress that Conyers' bill is important and has our support. If you have a few minutes, please write or call your Congressperson today to express your support for the Conyers bill: H.R. 104.

We are days away from the best campaign operation that resulted in this historical inauguration event. This 20th day of January 2009 at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, President Barack H. Obama with the support of First Lady Michelle Obama, First Daughter Sasha Obama and First Daughter Malia Obama, will officially be sworn into the White House, and assume the duties of a predecessor that has allowed this country to fall into the worst condition in my lifetime. This day will mark the start of a revival for a forgotten U.S. citizen, country and world in crisis.

Many long and dedicated hours have been put into making what many did not believe would be possible in their lifetimes, however, very shortly we are days from what will become an official reality for the United States of America and the World. We have completed all the basic and intermediate requirements to go to the next phase of improving the status of "We the People", our communities, our country and our reputation throughout the world. Now is the time for us to maneuver in the trenches like never before.

Interpersonal communication plays a vital role in resolving the numerous issues that exists. Many are not happy about the outcomes that has resulted in the bailout and rescue plans for the CEOs, bankers, automakers, Wall Street, insurance companies and others have will benefit from the billion dollar package. The reason you are unhappy is because it appears like the same old politics,giving money and forgiveness to the same group of individuals that have messed up this country for years, the HAVES. However, I am sure that those of us who are not among the HAVES (make more than $250,000, private jets, summer and winter homes, etc.), help is coming for those whose only feedback has been "disapproved for low credit score/FICO score", or homeless because of bad credit history thereby application for residency is "disapproved". Or cannot get a telephone or utiities in personal name when a landlord is willing to give you a chance due to poor credit history resulting in "disapproved"/having to pay a deposit so hung there is no way. Or you have already lost your home due to mitigating circumstances stemmed from the military, government or employment and all you hear is getting stimulus to those who are about to lose their home and you say "what about me". Or you are behind in your child support and the government has marked your name, as a citizen and business owner barely or not making it at all, thereby your chances of getting small business assistance is currently in the "null" status. Or you are not among the main street, but rather in the street or in the "gutter" and agencies that are suppose to be in place to assist, nonprofits, state and local have a lot of "red tape" that will not allow you to qualify for funding that you as a once taxpayer contributed to. Qualification for purchases, residency as a renter and buyer, on the basis of credit score and FICO score needs to be re-evaluated.

All Americans need to receive the same break that the rich have received to jumpstart this economy. Implementation of a program that will allow rejuvenation of the esteem within civilians and military that have served this country in some capacity feel a sense of betrayal. The rescue and bailout plans have some feelings like they have had the air knocked out of them. Why? Because every that had money and made bad decisions received rescue and bailout money, those that did not have much from the beginning, living check to check on wages created by Congress, have received nothing but a debt from the Wall Street Onward issue. If all Americans are to be held accountable, then there must be something developed by Congress that will forgive our debts and give us a start as well.

This information is based on research from being in the trenches as a "Agent for Change in America". In the process of developing a model for presentation with the intent to give you the "snapshot" picture of what is going on.

The above is what it will take to help our President and his cabinet members. We are the group will the capability to bring it to you in a forum that will not only motivate you to keep it moving, but will provide the tools needed to bring resolution to issues facing those of you who need that extra.

Let's make it happen, by supporting our President in fixing a country that will require much work. If we all pull together with "Hands Across America" we will create the change needed in the mind, body and soul that will pour out into our neighbors, communities, cities, states and overall country.

We have to get back to the basics that were vital to building the foundation of this country with a value system that incorporates new technology taking us into the future.

Today -- 1/1/09, I submitted the feedback for my community health care discussion hosted at the Twin Oaks Branch of the Austin Public Library in 78704Land. There were 4 attendees including myself. I felt the discussion was very productive, and I was pleasantly surprised that we even had 4 attendees given the lack of publicity provided by the Obama change.gov website and the timing of these discussions around the holidays.

Nonetheless, I am thankful the Obama/Biden/Daschle Health Care Team had the idea of providing these public forums on health care. It bodes well for the prospect of urgently needed health care reform in this country.

In addition, I would **highly** recommend HHS Sec'y-Designate Daschle's recent book on health care reform: Critical What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis

The book was very well written, stayed right to the point, and did not get bogged down in lots of details that would only be meaninful to a career expert on health care. Any person having some familiarity with current events, and in interest in the current crisis in health care in this country can follow this book.

Many issues are in the forefront, the economy, jobs, health care, the environment, ethics, equality to name just a few. We as a group need to pressure our elected officials to put petty and personal issues aside and focus on these real issues. It's upto you to lobby your own elected officials on issues that are importaint to you. This is not just a federal effort but State, County & local one as well, these other issues need as much attention as the big national ones. Get involved with the issues that matter to you. When contacting these officials please note your involvment in the Obama campaign. Call, write and email, demand answers & response. Watch the votes & note where they differ from yours and the area represented views. Call them out for their votes. As you know from the campaign you CAN make a difference.

Running for local office can give you a much greater voice in issues you care about. County Committee, municiple office, school boards, volunteer for your local recreation board, sanitation authority, library board whatever interests you. You can be someone whose voice is not just heard but listened to as a mover in your community. This is how the Reagan revolution started, locally. Is it easy? No. But NOTHING worthwhile ever is isn't it?

If they do, we will recover in the next year or two. If they do not, we will have to clean House, and the Senate too, come November 2010. We should have a good indication of the Congress's willingness to cooperate by late January or early February.

Post Election Thoughts, Inauguration, Military and Veterans Outreach

My concerns are that the military families and veterans that have worked so hard, may not be able to participate in the inauguration that they made possible! It upsets me that I have NOT heard back from Brian Bilbray, Senator Feinstein or any other representatives that I have contacted regarding tickets. We have made various request for volunteer opportunities, discounted and free tickets to balls and events, and we are still in a wait and see pattern. It is very costly and bureaucratic, and I fear that the group may not be able to attended this most historic event, that again they made possible. As we wait for information, housing and airfare become more difficult and out of reach. But, I am hopeful that we will find sponsors to sponsor our local military families and veterans to the inauguration. We currently are in need of air miles and lodging sponsors. We currently have a proposal into the Earl Stafford Foundation for inaugural travel assistance for our 32 member OC (Orange County) and San Diego Military and Veterans for Obama, a local group of Blue Star Military Families and Veterans for Obama. Which I serve as lead organizer for, and founded this summer.
We are extremely excited about attending the Obama Inaugural after traveling to 37 states and Puerto Rico, hosting over 180 events and raising over $25,000 collectedly for the campaign and for philanthropic organizations. The group finished the campaign in Florida, where we worked with Obama organizers deliver all 27 electoral college votes for Obama!
I am also very upset that local party organizers are not making inaugural parties affordable to students, seniors, the disabled or military families and veterans! It is very sad to see that even theSan Diego County Democratic Inaugural Party is out of reach for most at $85/$100 per ticket! This is NOT the Obama way! We are a movement of inclusion, not exclusion based on socioeconomic status. I personally have helped get plane tickets and organized travel for over 850 students, veterans, military family members, unemployed folks and those who could not afford to be a part of this movement, but wanted to volunteer. It is the roll of us as organizers to be mindful of the current economic conditions and plan events accordingly. We have to work on getting underwriters and sponsors for underrepresented groups.

As a 33 year old recent graduate school graduate, I understand all to well about the struggles of trying to find a job in this economy and trying to make ends meat. And this campaign trail, has given me much to be thankful for and to work toward. As a young black woman, I often was brought to tears thinking of my mother (who died of pancreatic cancer in 2005) would be saying or the shear enjoy of my grandparents to see this day come to come to pass, when not color but charisma, brilliance, political savvy and philanthropy motivated the Nation to elect the 44th President of the United States of America! And I feel that same way in being elected delegate in my congressional district where blacks make up only about 2% of the population! That is was I felt an obligation to fundraise and take San Diego's Finest with me!
My proudest moment in this campaign was being elected the National Delegate from the 50th Congressional District to the Democratic National Convention and taking a Military Families and Veterans Delegation of 26 with me! The best event of the whole week was working with the group to packing boxes for our troops at Camp Pendleton with Michelle Obama, her daughters, her mother and her brothers! I cried when we (Benjamin Bates, my fiance, managed the Delegation while I was on the floor of the Convention) were able to get all the families and their extended families into the Invesco Field for the ending ceremonies! This is what the Obama campaign and movement is all about philanthropy and service.
The group is focusing our attention on on the California Democratic Party's Assembly District Delegates races, where we are running our Blue Stars and Veterans in the their AD's to represent military families and veterans issues on the state level. We are working to establish military family members and veterans as a strong lobby with the CDP thru the Veterans Caucus and appointments to various committees with in the CDP. Our group has now found a home in the La Jolla Democratic Club. We are very excited to be joining forces with such an active and well established Democratic Club. The new president, Dr. Michael McQuarry has been a great advocate of our work and is helping us develop Democratic Military and Veterans outreach and assist us with our philanthropic work. Here in San Diego we are working with philanthropic organizations by volunteering, hosting events or raising money.
I am very interested in changing Democrats and Progressives feelings and views on the military and veterans. I believe we have much to do on the local level to constituency build among military families and veterans. San Diego County is a military county, and we must work with them, advocate for them and provide them a seat at the policy table. I see this is my new role in the movement. The military families and veterans are our pride and enjoy, and are what makes San Diego "America's Finest City." But thru out the nation it is NOT only our duty to work to end the war, but to support the military families and veterans that were innocently caught up in this conflict also!!! For to long Democrats have been sleeping at the wheel on outreaching to military families, troops and veterans. They overwhelming supported Obama this is our opportunity. It will not be easy because we have been MIA so long, and letting Republicans set the agenda. If you want a real rewarding challenge join us in helping and working with our troops, military families and veterans! Being Democrat, progressive or liberal does NOT mean anti-military, military families or veterans!!! Pro-Obama, Pro-Military!!!!!

Since 1980, Pickens has made over $5 million in political donations. He was a financial supporter of Bush #43 and contributed heavily to both his Texas and national political campaigns. In 2004, Pickens contributed to Republican 527 groups, including a $3 million contribution to the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth attacking Bush's rival, John Kerry, and $2.5 million to the Progress for America advocacy group. In 2005, Pickens was among 53 entities that contributed the maximum of $250,000 to Bush's second inauguration.

On July 16, 2007, Pickens wrote an article for the National Review supporting Rudy Giuliani for President. Pickens was an executive-committee member of the Rudy Giuliani presidential committee.

Pickens chaired the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the American Spectator , a conservative U.S. monthly magazine covering news and politics.

Pickens has said he has stopped giving to political campaigns and focused his advocacy on alternative energy such as solar and wind. The Washington Post says that "perhaps the strangest role" Pickens "has fashioned for himself is his current one: the billionaire speculator as energy wise man, an oil-and-gas magnate as champion of wind power, and a lifetime Republican who has become a fellow traveler among environmentally minded Democrats.

In November 2008, California voters rejected a referendum regarding natural gas. Pickens owns Clean Energy Fuels Corporation, a natural gas fueling station company that was the primary backer of the November 2008 Proposition 10 on California's ballot. Much of the measure's sale of $5 billion in general fund bonds to provide alternative energy rebates and incentives ($9.8 billion after interest) could benefit Pickens' company to the exclusion of almost all other clean-vehicle fuels and technology.

Auto Bailout

Quick question about the bailout of the auto industry.

Since we gave Wall Street and big banks a huge bailout why doesn't the Government instruct the banks who receive a portion of the bailout to loan a percentage of that money to the auto industry with the interest accrued on that loan to be paid back to the Government and the principle applied back to the bank?

That way the banks would begin lending money, the auto industry would get the money they need saving thousands if not millions of jobs, and not just one bank is responsible for carrying the loan. (I think it would be a small percentage of the money the banks received if it was equally distributed among all the banks receiving bailout money from the government.) Further the money is still coming from the Government through the banks; therefore, tax payers will not have to support yet another bailout. Of course we would still need Congressional and Treasury oversight on the banks and the big 3 but at least we would know where the money we gave the banks went and how it was used.

I'm not an expert by any means but from watching news, I think we want the banks lending money, the auto industry needs a loan, and the Government should try to recover the money as quickly as possible to pay for programs and provide middle class tax relief. I believe that if the Government has enough assurance to consider giving more tax payer money to the big 3, then banks should also have assurance to use a portion of their bailout money to loan money to the auto industry. Does this make sense?

Reportedly the lobbyists are as thick on the ground as locusts at the US Treasury as they fight for a piece of the $700 billion bailout. It is theorized by some that the bailout is a giveaway by the Bush administration to their friends to prevent the incoming Obama administration from funding healthcare reform and other liberal priorities.
