Blocked Bloggers? Discussion Post

Just read this post a while ago: http://markcrispinmiller.com/2009/08/att-blocking-dissidents/ about a blogger who was denied access to certain sites during the 2004-2005 elections. Well then, the block was due to his ISP, AT&T, that required him to use an annonymous proxy to get to his sites.

Anyway, is there a pattern here? People like JFK Fan and Taz gets put down while hacker blogs take free reign of the Community Blogs. Strange blocks, take downs, and post blocking (blog posts that fail to show up) on the Community Blogs, and the final blow with the shut down of the Community Blogs, well, could this be a pattern to a complete Internet shutdown?! Like a Prison Planet?

Something to think about.

This vid was one I found on a site called Deprogram.net. The vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoA3wHi9iDE, is by a guy from the Center for Global Research known as Michel Chossudovsky. He argues that the current policies + TARP will eat up almost all of the US's GDP (which I've heard is more a service economy rather than a manufacturing economy).

What's your take on this vid after watching it?

If we have a loan or credit card payment that has to be paid, how do we -- as individuals -- get the money to pay it back? What happens if we -- as individuals -- can't pay it back?

Now, what happens when the U.S. has to repay it, what could happen? How does the money to pay it back the debt earned? What if the debt cannot be paid back?

Something's really weird when Dr. Paul can't buy a new car...

No, I'm serious! Dr. Ron Paul (I can't stop laughing!) said he can't buy a car because of uncertainty in the auto industry!

Even though the irony of Dr. Paul needs a car and can't buy one because he's unsure of the auto industry's long run and how the current financial policy is affecting him are funny, the current financial policies aren't something to laugh at. I'm getting nervous since the low of gasoline in my area was around $1.45/gal circa mid-November, it's now $1.96/gal. Yeah, I could've made a few Deal or No Deal or The Price Is Right jokes, but I know that it took me about 14 mos in 2005-6 to buy the used car that I have, and I hated the fact that someone had to cosign the loan because I didn't carry credit cards at the time! (I don't like carrying them, or having to worry about the interest payments! Stupid credit "economy!") So, I can understand Dr. Paul's frustration in his car-buying decision! Maybe The Suze Orman Show could help, but I don't know if Dr. Paul needs that kind of financial advice, but it depends on how bad his old car is doing.

As I said, something's really weird when Dr. Paul can't buy a new car.

I ran accross the 3/15/09 60 Minutes show online, http://beta.sling.com/video/show/130320/87/60-Minutes,-031509, and I find the show pretty interesting, though Bernanke doesn't go through the entire history of the FRS. (I won't go through all of it here, but there are plenty of links and sources about the full story, if you're willing to know. Remember, Woodrow Wilson regretted creating the FRS).

About Bernanke's policies, though, IMO, he's either fooling himself or he's a pretty shrewd actor, as he seems emotionless throughout the piece (or it could be the editing).

It could be global warming, or even the solar system heating up (Yes, apparently, it's not just the Earth that's heating up, http://www.livescience.com/environment/070312_solarsys_warming.html.), but this guy, who's not a college undergrad, has his own opinion about Bernanke's policies: http://capitalbeat.com/?p=2647.

Uh, why is all of this talk about the FRS and its policies becoming so popular on the MSM now, even though it's been all over the indy media for years?

I know that a few people were interested on the status of GA HB 430, so here's an update.

Yeah, its from C4L, but it's worth a look.

Apparently, the bill is stuck in committee, and the committee chairs, Rep. Calvin Hill, Chairman of the Financial Institutions & Services Subcommittee, and Rep. Mike Coan, Chairman of the Regulations & Oversight Subcommittee, did not allow the bill to come up for discussion, though the article says that they promised to do so.

One thing for everyone to know, hearing the two of them combined is funny, but it reminds me of people going after each other on the show, Yomamma. (Look, both of them are talking about drinking coffee while criticizing sarcastically each others' opinions about the housing plan.)

Both of them bring VALID POINTS THAT *EVERYBODY* NEEDS TO CONSIDER!!! Disagree with me if you like, but how they are going about it seems immature.

Another point, I am critical about the MSM's influence on issues and opinions, and I've made this really clear on many of my pre-election posts. Also, due to the biasing that the MSM has done, it is understandable that Obama's staff have been really edgy. However, in this case, the concerns from people like Santelli are from a point of view that happened to start off as off the mainstream, but it managed to become a signal that the MSM is paying attention to on its radar!

In my opinion, I am happy that Rep. Paul's supporters are getting some well-deserved MSM coverage, but also, that Pres. Obama is also doing what he can under the stressfull and intimidating conditions he has been going through.

HOWEVER, ONE THING MUST BE KEPT IN MIND, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU SUPPORT OBAMA OR PAUL OR ANYONE ELSE, MAINSTREAM OR OTHERWISE: THE MSM, OR CORPORATE MEDIA LOVES IT WHEN A DEBATE OVER AN ISSUE DISSOLVES INTO A HISSY FIT BECAUSE IT MAKES GOOD RATINGS, AND THE SUPPORTERS OF EITHER SIDE BECOME SO POLARIZED INTO SUPPORTING THEIR PERSON OR ISSUE THAT THEY BECOME UNWILLING TO HEAR THE OTHER SIDE OUT, WHICH IS ALSO WHAT THE COPORATE LEADERS WANT IN ORDER TO KEEP THE *TRUTH* OF THE SITUATION SILENT!!!!!

I know that some MyBO members may disagree with me, while people who are C4L members that casually read MyBO might take my post as ridiculous, but granted that there are bills like HR 645 that are out there that no one is paying attention to, and there are several other events called out on blogs like MyBO and C4L, it would be nice that people remember to actually calmly and open-mindedly speak to each other.

Because it requires open and honest discussion and the issues at hand are worth looking into, I say that it is necessary that supporters from MyBO and supporters from C4L, as well as supporters from other sites have an open dialogue about this before we become too polarized!

Agree or disagree, but this is my opinion based on my observations on the video links.

YES I read the entire link I posted (took me just over an hour) and it just seems to me that everything cut was everything Obama promised to keep, and everything kept was what Obama was against when he was running.
OK so my actual question after all of this is this: Why are we cutting sciences yet throwing hundreds of billions of dollars towards the military still (see article X in the linked article.) I'm not an economist, I just noticed a very ugly trend in the above documents and would like someone with a bit more economic experience to explain (please!)

Why didn't they make MyBO an independent blog (see the part called, sarcastically, "Jetsons vs Flintstones") is beyond me, but the MSM playing their games, as usual, it's no wonder why there seems to be a communication issue. (Though I think some debate and analysis of the stimulus package is necessary, but many of you won't agree.)

Anyway, blogs and news reports are talking about Cheney mentioning that the "country's in danger" over and over again, but what's he up to really...HR 645? Is California's situation one of his ideas for getting that bill to pass?

Pay attention to these bills, including HR 645:

Now this one's not really important, but this is one is fun to look at: HR 778.

Cabinet Curiosity... Want to recommend?

I know that President-Elect Obama has been pretty tight-lipped about his cabinet proposals, but MSNBC has put out some names, though they may not be officially from Obama himself.

Frankly, if you have any better recommendations, feel free to post a reply and tell me why.

Seriously, we don't want to have a lousy, greedy, trigger-happy Cabinet!

Also, how do you think we can get these recommendations to him? I'm not sure he'll be reading these blogs much righ now.

(On a side note, there's some interesting Lieberman developments, for those who are interested.)

P.S.: Keep reading up on all the issues from as many sources as you can, and don't be afraid of seeing a diversity of opinions on the matter, as the best solutions will come from that diversity of thought. Besides, Obama needs a Cabinet with a diversity of thought as well as a diversity of party/field/background.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Citigroup agreed to buy troubled Wachovia's banking operations in a deal Monday that gives the US government a stake in another sector shakeup amid the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

The government-engineered rescue marked further consolidation of the struggling US banking sector saddled with heavy losses from the bursting of the real estate bubble and a related credit crunch.

It came as Wachovia, the fourth-largest US bank by assets, faced a near collapse of its share price and weakening confidence because of its exposure to the subprime mortgage crisis.

The Wachovia takeover was unveiled just hours before the US House of Representatives rejected a massive 700-billion-dollar bailout of financial firms, roiling markets.

The tentative Wall Street bailout agreement was struck Sunday after intense negotiations between President George W. Bush's administration and Republican and Democratic Congressional leaders.

The Bush administration insisted the rescue of financial firms exposed to toxic mortgage investments was crucial to avert a wider economic collapse.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC), which insures and regulates banks, said in announcing the Citigroup takeover that Wachovia "did not fail."

Under the takeover agreement, the government will obtain a stake in Citigroup, which will become the country's largest US bank by total deposits, in exchange for guaranteeing a large portion of the distressed Wachovia assets linked to housing.

Citigroup will pay 2.16 billion dollars in stock to Wachovia and assume the senior and subordinated debt of Wachovia Corporation, the companies said.

New York-based Citigroup will assume up to 42 billion dollars of losses from a pool of 312 billion dollars of loans held by Wachovia; the FDIC will absorb losses beyond that.

In exchange, Citigroup granted the FDIC 12 billion dollars in preferred stock and warrants to compensate the agency for bearing this risk.

Citigroup said it expected to raise 10 billion dollars in common shares to help finance the transaction.

Standard & Poor's said it was placing both companies on CreditWatch with negative implications.

The merger agreement with Wachovia in itself does not add materially to Citigroup's risk "because it is structured essentially as an acquisition of a 'clean' bank, S&P said in a statement," the credit agency said.

Shares in Citigroup slumped 11.9 percent to 17.75 dollars in a massive late selloff on Wall Street after the House vote that dragged the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 777.68 points, the biggest one-day point drop ever.

Wachovia shares became nearly worthless, plunging 81 percent to 1.84 dollars.

Citigroup said the acquisition would create a leading retail bank with a 9.8 percent share of US market deposits, and total deposits of 1.3 trillion dollars. Wachovia had 812 billion dollars in assets at the end of June.

The takeover was orchestrated with the Federal Reserve and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, in consultation with Bush, the FDIC said.

"A failure of Wachovia would have posed a systemic risk," Paulson said.

Shares in Wachovia had lost 73 percent of their value in a year and were plummeting in recent days as investors feared there would be a panic run on the beleaguered bank, as had occurred to its rival, savings and loan bank Washington Mutual.

WaMu was seized by the government and sold to investment bank JPMorgan Chase late Thursday in what was the biggest-ever US bank failure.

"Following the collapse of Washington Mutual last week, it is assumed that wary depositors pulled funds out of Wachovia, sparking the need for the sale," analysts at Briefing.com said.

The FDIC noted that Wachovia depositors were "fully protected" under its federal guarantee of bank deposits up to 100,000 dollars and the transaction was not expected to cost the Deposit Insurance Fund.

Under the agreement, Citigroup will acquire the bulk of the Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wachovia's assets and liabilities, including five depository institutions and assume senior and subordinated debt.

Wachovia Corp. will remain a public company with two main operating subsidiaries: brokerage firm Wachovia Securities and Evergreen Asset Management.

The transaction is expected to close before year-end. It has been approved by directors of both companies and is subject to shareholder approval of Wachovia and the appropriate regulatory approvals.

Preparing Biden for Thursday

While Thursday night's VP debate should be a cakewalk for Biden -- one of the best debaters in the Democratic party for anyone that has followed him over the years -- he has an extremely big challenge ahead of him: how does he debate someone as incoherent as Sarah Palin is likely to be?

Biden runs the risk of coming off as "mean" if he attacks her too much, or "condescending" or "patronizing" if he goes too easy on her. And you can be sure Republicans will accuse him of sexism no matter how it goes. It's actually really fortunate that the moderator, Gwen Ifill, is a woman so it won't appear to be 2 against 1.

Biden made some comments earlier this week about how he has debated very tough women before, and he named Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snowe. I think it is important for that message to get out this week prior to the debate to pre-emptively defuse the sexism charges that will come no matter what happens. It may even behoove him to incorporate that into one of his answers early on if he can.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

To abolish the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks, to repeal the Federal Reserve Act, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act’.

SEC. 2. FEDERAL RESERVE BOARD ABOLISHED.

(a) In General- Effective at the end of the 1-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and each Federal reserve bank are hereby abolished.

(b) Repeal of Federal Reserve Act- Effective at the end of the 1-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Federal Reserve Act is hereby repealed.

(1) MANAGEMENT DURING DISSOLUTION PERIOD- During the 1-year period referred to in subsection (a), the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System–

(A) shall, for the sole purpose of winding up the affairs of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks–

(i) manage the employees of the Board and each such bank and provide for the payment of compensation and benefits of any such employee which accrue before the position of such employee is abolished; and

(ii) manage the assets and liabilities of the Board and each such bank until such assets and liabilities are liquidated or assumed by the Secretary of the Treasury in accordance with this subsection; and

(B) may take such other action as may be necessary, subject to the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury, to wind up the affairs of the Board and the Federal reserve banks.

(2) LIQUIDATION OF ASSETS-

(A) IN GENERAL- The Director of the Office of Management and Budget shall liquidate all assets of the Board and the Federal reserve banks in an orderly manner so as to achieve as expeditious a liquidation as may be practical while maximizing the return to the Treasury.

(B) TRANSFER TO TREASURY- After satisfying all claims against the Board and any Federal reserve bank which are accepted by the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and redeeming the stock of such banks, the net proceeds of the liquidation under subparagraph (A) shall be transferred to the Secretary of the Treasury and deposited in the General Fund of the Treasury.

(3) ASSUMPTION OF LIABILITIES- All outstanding liabilities of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks at the time such entities are abolished, including any liability for retirement and other benefits for former officers and employees of the Board or any such bank in accordance with employee retirement and benefit programs of the Board and any such bank, shall become the liability of the Secretary of the Treasury and shall be paid from amounts deposited in the general fund pursuant to paragraph (2) which are hereby appropriated for such purpose until all such liabilities are satisfied.

(d) Report- At the end of the 18-month period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of the Treasury and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget shall submit a joint report to the Congress containing a detailed description of the actions taken to implement this Act and any actions or issues relating to such implementation that remain uncompleted or unresolved as of the date of the report.

Watching the speech[sic] last night was showing me nothing new from anything last week. I agree more with what Suze Orman said on Oprah two days ago concerning the current situation, though I also suspect other things. (I've had several posts on the economy in my blog). And frankly, I don't think that the government buying anymore financial properties and/or mortgages (except the Fed, IMO) will stabilize anything. Buying up the stuff, including the debt will only permit another crash like this one to recur.

Besides, I have other questions as well: Assuming the bailout goes through...

What would happen to taxes?
What would happen to the programs like Medicare or the Pell Grant?
What would happen to the environment?
What would happen in the event of another natural disaster?
Would any candidates' policies, regardless of party afilliation, be implemented once electeded?
Are there any other factors besides what has been publicized that contributed to the current situation?
How would this affect someone who needs medical care for heart disease? autism? Parkinsons? major depression? osteoporosis-related injuries?
How would it benefit or hurt us? Would this affect any Constitutional issues?

Too many crazy things have been going on! I don't profess to know it all, though.

Interesting...

If you've got issues that feel the country isn't being addressed, no matter how "crazy" people perceive them, this might be an interesting opportunity.

Well, it should be about uniting the country anyway...

The platform may be an opportunity to address grievances and show some of the issues that the MSM aren't showing us... (See this Florida ruling concerning a reporter who wanted to report a story: FL Second District Court of Appeal, Case No. 2D01-529. I don't think people watching the MSM are getting the whole story about issues these days.)

Well, I may be reaching here, but the platform idea is a clever idea by Obama.

One Blogger's Observations and Opinions on FISA Replies: Dissent and Community Activism.

To all bloggers:

I really enjoyed reading the various views and dissenting opinions on Joe Rospar's blog: Response from Barack on FISA and Discussion with Policy Staff, and I believe that almost all of them, whether they be from Obama supporters, McCain supporters, Nader supporters, Barr supporters, old bloggers, new bloggers, "trolls," etc, have been very important on this long-overdue discourse on the matter. In fact, I wish more issues like this were handled in debates that the MSM seemed to overlook until now.

However, later responses seemed to denigrate to more of an ad hominem attack on other responses, even on ones with informative dissenting views.

From these responses, we have a lot to learn about ourselves, as individuals, as supporters of any candidate, as citizens, and as people concerned with our civil and Consitutional rights, liberties, and freedoms, as well as about our concerns about our health, prosperity, safety, and (maybe) sovereignty. I could also say, in my opinion, these responses show how much we, as bloggers (in general), and possibly as the general public, really understand all of these issues.

Before I go on, watch the video on Christopher Hass' blog: Video: Barack on Service: "I am asking you to change history's course." At the end of the video, Obama has left the act of advocacy to us.

I would like to add that this is not just an election of a President. The entire House of Representatives, 1/3 of the Senate, as well as various state and local positions are up for grabs all over the country this November. If you do not believe that your official does not have the best interests of you, your community, your state, or the country at hand, consider looking for a candidate who does have them, or even consider running yourself. Someone on the Rospar blog shared this YouTube link, which is a good reminder for us about division, though logical and thoughtful dissenting views are important in bringing policies that will not sacrifice our rights, liberties, and freedoms.

Besides, community activism is hard to do alone. (It reminds me of the lyrics of Linkin Park's "By Myself," which expresses the difficulty in dealing with a difficult situation concerning activism and the situations each choice in the matter faces.) Community activism and advocacy will take the efforts of many people taking the time to learn about the issues and their relationships, as well as being willing to listen to the dissenting views of others or else there may be nothing left afterward.

My intention is to bring up an observation of personal opinion of the responses to the Rospar blog concerning FISA as well as recommend a few blogs and videos to watch.

I hope that ObamaHQ will allow for more HQblogs like the one Joe Rospars brought up. These will be better for everyone in the long run. I don't like "trolls," but the Rospars blog opened the discussion up so that, hopefully, everyone could provide their views on an issue, that for once, is worthy of discussion.

Please take this as one blogger's observation and opinion.

More and more fingers are pointing at one of the least-known but most powerful foreign exchanges - the InterContinental Exchange, or ICE.

By the end of 2007, the all-electronic exchange accounted for nearly a 50 percent market share of all global oil futures contracts, a total of 138.5 million contracts - up 49 percent from 2006.

Why are the founders including banks?

Today it boasts more than 2,100 individual traders representing virtually all of the major players in oil - banks, hedge funds, energy companies, investment giants.

And according to a securities filing, two of those giants, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, were founding partners of ICE. [Emphasies added]

I'm aware of a lot of other factors, like an increase in global demand, war, OPEC, etc., but...

He recently told Congress that speculation is placing a huge premium on the price of oil.

"How much per barrel?" Keteyian asked.

"Well, there have been various estimates - anywhere from 25 percent to 50 percent," Greenberger said.

"The fact that they started this shows the intent of where they wanted to go," Greenberger said. "Which was to trade crude oil and energy products without any police in the United States supervising it."

That's because it's considered a foreign exchange. Taking advantage of a loophole created by the CFTC, the company says its "energy futures business" is conducted in London, it is not subject to U.S. laws. Over strong criticism, the CFTC agreed.

All this despite the fact ICE headquarters are on the fifth floor of a building in Atlanta, it's primary data center in Chicago, and nearly all its trades settled in U.S. dollars.

I don't know if this could occur in the House of Representatives, and whether or not the Democrats or the Republicans will ever let this out of the House Judiciary Committee (Check my reply to my post on Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment to see why I'm saying Democrates AND Republicans.) but the video link shows some of the politicking that goes on in Congress where the MSM isn't covering that!

Message to the Corporate Media

To the MSM:

Right now, I am watching the CBS Evening News, and I have been seeing it on MSNBC and CNN, you, the corporate media, are desperately trying to promote HRC for VP.

Now look: you, the coporate media, are supposed to report the news, not to report spin.

I sincerely hope that the HRC supporters will come to Sen. Obama because he is a genuine person who continued to stay on message, even with all the controversies[sic] you, the corporate media, brought upon Sen. Obama since the March 4 primaries. I am well aware that you, the corporate media, have more in store for him after the votes are counted in Montana and South Dakota, and I have this point:

I have observed Obama and I have seen the sincere desire to bring change and stand up against the special interests and the coporations they represent!

I recommend that you, the coporate media start to bring up issues that affect the people by talking about NAFTA, the economy, civil liberties, and health care.

I dare the you, the corporate media, to report on these bills:

I sincerely hope the HRC supporters will take a sincere look at Sen. Obama's message and will come to see who Sen. Obama really is, regardless of all the ridiculous media smear tactics you, the coroporate media, have brought upon him.

Again, I ask -- no, I demand -- in the interest of fairness to Sen. Obama, if you are going to report about the possible VP options, that you, the corporate media, should recognize that Sen. Obama has more than HRC to consider.

In addition, I ask -- no, I demand -- in the interest of fairness to all people of all faiths, that you, the corporate media, keep religion and politics separate, and if you will report on the opinions of a pastor for any reason, you will cite the entire sermon without spin.

Furthermore, I ask -- no, I demand -- in the interest of free speech that you, the coporate media, report on issues that have been underreported, like the bills that I have just mentioned.

Frankly, it is time that independent media, and the Internet should be recognized for its democratizing potential and a medium for free speech, and I believe that all media should be nonprofit. Enough is enough!

Alright! A lot of us don't want HRC for VP, so who do you want for VP and why?

Just as the title suggests, who do you want to see for Obama's VP and why.

Give the following:

Who s/he is
Party affiliation (for me any party is okay, or someone who is nonpartisan, too)
What they bring to the table

I know the nomination isn't over, yet, but since HRC is willing to consider a convention fight (just check out MSNBC or Google your news site of choice) and since quite a few have said that they don't want HRC to be VP (disclosure: I also don't want HRC for VP), I think discussing this now would be a way for people to think this over.

Furthermore, you can suggest people for other positions, like for secretary of whatever and/or as an advisor to Obama, and don't worry about party affiliation! Any party or someone with no party affiliation is acceptable.

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten that the nomination is still going on! Getting VP ideas at this stage is a good idea right now, since tomorrow is the last day of primaries (I hope).

Celebration and Fence Mending

I hope that fellow Obamacans resist the urge to crow. In listening to callers on this morning’s c-span show Washington Journal, it is clear that there is fence mending and reconciliation that needs to happen between both candidates’ factions. I know that if Clinton were to win the nomination, I would need some counseling from her supporters to convince me to vote for her in November.

This cannot be an easy time for Senator Clinton. She was the Anointed One over a year ago. It must be difficult to realize that the path to the Democratic nomination was not the mere formality that she (and her supporters) anticipated.

I hope supporters of Clinton openly and frankly comment on why they would hesitate to vote for Obama in the fall. Conversely, I hope that we Obamacans will reply to their concerns sensitively and thoughtfully.

Lessons from Obama, the Bigger Picture, and Being Nice to Clintonites

I’m working on my second celebratory martini (is drinking martinis elitist?). MSNBC is talking positively about Senator Obama. Heck, even Joe Scarborough was bullish on Obama! And yes, Obama’s speech in NC brought tears to my eyes.

There seems to be inevitability to Obama’s nomination that needs to play itself out. The question is, how should we conduct ourselves? At the very least, we need to emulate Obama in his demeanor and character.

- Reflect Obama’s empathy. We can’t gloat over tonight’s results. We must respect the fact that Clinton has been formidable. We need to concede that she has forced Obama to become a stronger candidate. It can’t be easy for Clinton to face the fact that a nomination that was conceded to her a year ago has slipped away.

- Live Obama’s belief. If we truly agree with Obama’s message, we all need to be uniters. I have seen comments at other sites in which Clintonites have said that Obamacan rhetoric alone will cause them to vote for McCain in the November.

- Focus on the big picture. We cannot afford to antagonize Clinton supporters because we need them if Obama becomes the nominee. We must address their concerns in a respectable way that allays their concerns about Obama. If we fail to do this, then we will win the battle but lose the war.

I end with a childhood church memory. One of the hymns that sticks in my head is “They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love.” Its lyrics always conveyed to me that it is our actions that reflect who we are and not how we identify ourselves.

Similarly, if we are true Obamacans, we must reflect our candidate’s philosophy not just by our vote, but by how we conduct ourselves.in our actions and conversations.

The Wright Stuff, Media Pundits, and a Question for Clintonites

The Bill Moyers interview with Jeremiah Wright was excellent. The Reverend’s controversial comments were shown in their context through extended clips. Furthermore, in listening to Wright speak with Moyers, one can’t help but conclude that the Reverend is thoughtful, intelligent, and had reasons for saying what he said. Contrast that with the image one conjures up from the uncontextualized film snippets of him with which we have, sadly, become all too familiar. Wright may be critical of America, but he doesn’t hate it.

Wright talked about the miseducation of Americans - of our difficulty in facing our country’s past misdeeds and how important it is to know our great history, warts and all. The mindset of miseducation is appropriate when thinking about the pundits who discussed the interview. After watching Moyers, I flipped to The O’Reilly Factor and listen to him and Newt Gingrich discuss the hour-long interview. I disagreed with their critiques and broad brush generalizations of Moyers (“far left”) and Wright (too many caricatures to enumerate). As usual, they opined unwaveringly, assured in their convictions.

What astounded me is that both O’Reilly and Gingrich acknowledged that they had yet to view the show! Shouldn’t they have watched the entire interview before trashing it? In fairness, Newt and Bill were not alone. The punditocracy at Morning Joe, et. al., also pre-judged. More should be expected from the members of the Fourth Estate because so many of us rely to them to form our opinions.

I conclude this post with a question to anyone reading this, but particularly to any Clinton supporters visiting the site. Senator Clinton said in a recent speech that voters should judge a candidate not by what they say, but on what they’ve done.

Can anyone name anything that Senator Obama has said or done that would indicate that he “bought into” Reverend Wright’s “hateful speech?”

Distractions, HRC, RNC, & the MSM: A Strategic Relationship? Suggestions.

Hey guys:

Haven't you noticed since the March 4 primaries the following "distractions:" Rezko, NAFTA, "3 AM," Rev. Wright's "comments," the "Ayers" association, and now the NC RNC ad?

Do you guys recall how quickly Obama overtook HRC before March 4 in several primaries, especially with Super Tuesday (Feb 5)?

Notice the "strategy?"

Keep these questions in mind while I make my case.

Earlier, with my open letter to the ObamaBloggers, I mentioned the following concerning the MSM, HRC, and older/rural & small-town/less-educated voters:

After last night's primary, I was really frustrated. The MSM and HRC are using psychology to manipulate less-educated and older voters, especially late-deciding voters, as many of them seem to rely on the MSM for their information, into voting HRC by continuously forcing Obama to answer questions which are really "distractions" as he put it. And it shows! It will take more research into the matter, but I recommend reading this Anderson Cooper Blog, as apparently, this psychological manipulation is get them to research the distractions associated with Obama than about Obama's message. As far as this is concerned, we have to take this into account, and encourage them to educate themselves with info outside the MSM (from the blogs by ~Wanda~).

Then this morning, I was reading last night's Open Thread, and I ran accross Stephen Rose's comments, and the following information contained in the links he brought through his Blogger page were irking me:

Hannity Debate Instructions to Stephanopoulos: Apparently, Stephanopoulous got the idea to ask Obama questions about Ayers by Hannity, as cited to at Think Progress, and as you may have noticed, the MSM are already making "reports" about Ayers, especially about comments that were taken out out context, like Rev. Wrights' comments were, even when Ayers explained the context of the comments already.

Next, I recalled my reply to a blog asking about the weak support for Obama by small-town America by 4Seasons:

MSM are the main reference for small-town America

Most small-town Americans may rely on the MSM for most of their information, and are older, so they may be more trusting of what the MSM will have to say, and will base their searches on what they understand of Obama via the MSM.

This is bad because there is a general bias favoring HRC (Remember the debate @ ABC?) and/or the Republicans (though I don't have evidence with the MSM/Republican or the HRC/Republican association) by the MSM.

We may need to do small group talks like the one Obama did in PA: Link.

We need to make sure that small-town IN & NC folk are educated on the issues as well as their background and interrelationships, without overwhelming them with a lecture. It will take the IN & NC HQ & volunteers to pull that off since Obama can only do so many of them. Furthermore, we have to encourage the small-town IN & NC folk to look up information about Obama in a *positive* context and via *non-mainstream, independent* media.

So I realized, it's been HRC's strategy, and possibly the RNC's to use the MSM via their connections to influence older/lesser-educated/small-town and rural voters to vote for HRC by using these well-timed "distractions" to dissuade voters from listening to Obama's story as well as his message. They simply capitalized on the fact that Obama's campaign has to spend time and energy answering the charges in order to keep the campaign viable during the Democratic nomination! Meanwhile, HRC and the RNC, using the MSM are busy spinning the Democratic nomination toward HRC's favor. That doesn't even consider all the hidden controversies concerning HRC, and the fact that Stephanopoulous was formerly a member of Bill Clinton's White House.

Here are a few reasons why the MSM may have a stronger influence on older/lesser-educated/small-town & rural voters:

These voters are located in areas where they have fewer local news sources and they have a slower Internet, so they rely on what the MSM have to say in order to make their comparisons on Obama and HRC. Guess what they are watching?
In addition to having a slower Internet, these communities cannot afford to invest in faster Internet connections and fewer people have computers in order to surf for information by independent sources.
Most HQ's are located in cities and suburban areas and most of us are younger and more highly educated.

So, what should ObamaHQ do, as well as us?

Well, I'm glad to see that ObamaHQ is blogging about ObamaWorks, which is one group I recommend joining, if you are able to. Having ObamaWorks groups in small towns and rural areas will show voters in these areas by example what Obama's message is all about!

Furthermore, I recommend, if you are able to, applying for Obama's Organizing Fellows will also help, especiall for those who are interested in gaining organizational experience. Here's my reasons why from my letter:

...[W]e have to "dig in." Now, this is a critical point, and I wish I could go and join the Obama Organizing Fellows, as this will help everyone become community and political advocates, especially when it comes to "watching our rights," as this will be crucial throughout this campaign and after the election.
...
...I personally would like to have applied because I'm not very good at organizing events, so I would have enjoyed learning the organizing techniques they would be explaining to us. Furthermore, I can personally relate to a lot of Obama's situations, though I may not have met him in person, so I really encourage you to apply and take advantage of it.

Also, we need people at the HQ's to have more locations available in the small town and rural areas as well as having more of these areas staffed by lesser-educated/older voters so that they can relay Obama's message to these groups, as they may be more receptive. It would be great if these staffers rely less on the MSM so that they can dispell these rumors personally. In addition, we need to multiply the number of small-group meetings like this one at PA, and to get these out in the media ASAP. (I recall someone explain that they occur often, but I think they need to occur more often, even if it has to be done by volunteers, and we'll have to publicize the ourselves since not everyone watches C-SPAN).

I want to go and join these groups, but I am unable to at this time.

So that leads me to my next set of recommendations, particularly for those bloggers who are not able to travel:

Educate yourselves about the issues, as well as their historical background and their interrelationships with other issues. Being informed on the background and relationships on the issues will help us explain Obama's points on the issues, as well as help us "watch our rights" on some of them.
Keep everyone informed about the media, and bring out counterpoints when they arise. The MSM won't stop smearing Obama, and the volunteers on the ground need to know what's up as they won't have time to search around like we would. We are going to be the first line of defense.
If you have a good idea about fighting the MSM that ObamaHQ could use, let them know ASAP. I will say that I disagree with negative campaigning because that is the bait which HRC and the RNC are hoping the Obama campaign will fall for.

For me, it's more important for Obama to unite the country than the Democratic Party, as I suspect that HRC is anticipating these negative attacks to be enough "distraction" for the older/lesser-educated/small-town and rural voters so that Obama will be perceived as weak for the Democratic elite to be "convinced" to chosing HRC for the nomination and put pressure on Obama to be HRC's VP choice. However, as Obama wants to focus on being the Democratic nomination at this time, we need to help him get there. Personally, I think Obama has enough support to run as an independent candidate if he choses to, if he doesn't get the Democratic nomination.

One last point, we have to get Obama to the White House, and we have to be make sure we are making sure that he will get the support he needs elsewhere due to a concerning event which has occured during the PA primaries, which were not covered until by local media in my hometown until after the PA polls closed: GWB with Canada and Mexico at New Orleans "cementing" trade affairs. (The post was out during the PA primary, but I doubt a lot of us saw that then, which might have been the MSM's anticipation, in theory). So, keep an eye on that as well as your rights.

Right now, Obama will need our help more than ever, as it is NOW OR NEVER!

Before I begin with this post, I would like explain how I usually blog here. When I blog, I check my emails, read some articles, then the ObamaBlogs, and finally some internet blogs and blogs from other candidates before I blog.

After last night's primary, I was really frustrated. The MSM and HRC are using psychology to manipulate less-educated and older voters, especially late-deciding voters, as many of them seem to rely on the MSM for their information, into voting HRC by continuously forcing Obama to answer questions which are really "distractions" as he put it. And it shows! However, today, I was still frustrated from last night, so I change up my online routine. As I said, I do look around other candidates' websites, and what I did was start my browsing by going to Ralph Nader's website. I actually read some of their blogs, and I ran across this blog written by one of their staff about planting a garden and reaping what you sow with the comparison between her garden and the presidential campaign. I recommend listening to the embedded YouTube link, even though it is supposed to be a Nader plug, as it is relevant with us as Obama supporters, and this is especially important for those who are considering to vote for HRC if Obama doesn't win the nomination.

Why am I recommending a link that is supposed to endorse Nader? Good question. The message in the audio (as well as the text version of the audio) does not directly endorse Nader, only if you look at the video will you see the Nader endorsement. So, if you don't want to watch, you can click on the video link, then surf around while listening to it. After watching the video, and particularly listening to the message while disregarding the Nader plug, I actually felt better, and I am grateful that that link was up, and I thought to share this with everyone on the ObamaBlogs, as I hope they will help you feel better as well.

Like the previous link is saying, we have to "dig in." Now, this is a critical point, and I wish I could go and join the Obama Organizing Fellows, as this will help everyone become community and political advocates, especially when it comes to "watching our rights," as this will be crucial throughout this campaign and after the election.

If you're wondering why I won't be applying, here's why:

I've been working in some part-time work while looking for a better job. Recently, I've been given given a trial shot at the job I'm interested in. I won't go into details about it because I wish to not talk too much about my personal life. The main exception has been the blog, Resolution: Fight! as I felt the campaign was mimicking a situation I had experienced in SGA with a resolution I was working on. Luckily, for me, the ObamaBlogs have been my way to contribute support for Obama, and I hope my blogs have been helpful for those who have been looking for information, advice, debate, or opinions.

However, I personally would like to have applied because I'm not very good at organizing events, so I would have enjoyed learning the organizing techniques they would be explaining to us. Furthermore, I can personally relate to a lot of Obama's situations, though I may not have met him in person, so I really encourage you to apply and take advantage of it.

In the end this letter was intended to give a little insight to my blogs, the late-deciding voters as well as the MSM with their influence, a link to help us refocus (even though it's from another campaign), and to wrap it up with a recommendation to join the Obama Organizing Fellows as a way to help out Obama win this thing!

Please don't take offense to this letter, but use it to help inspire and empower you to keep fighting! And please, please, please, make it Obama, and NOT HRC (even for VP)!

We should be paying attention Bush's meeting right now as we need to "watch our rights!"

One last thing: even though I cite mainly from MSM, that doesn't mean I don't like seeing info or even debating with info from non-MSM sources, as I actually use them to support my points, so please bring it!

Where Does Obama Go After the Debate?

I am sure that everyone will be posting a statement on their blogs about the debate. So I figure, what the heck – let me throw in my two cents and post my own cathartic statement.

Here are the things I agree with after watching the debate, surfing the Internet, and watching the punditocracy:

- ABC was more critical of Obama than Clinton (and yes, George S should have recused himself from tonight’s debate). They should have either been more substantive or been equally “trashy” to both candidates.

- Senator Obama did a good job and could have done an even better job.

The debate was a snoozer (sorry, fellow Obamacans; I’m trying to call it as I see it.). Both candidates gave the impression of weariness. The debate lacked the spark of previous ones.

I declare the debate a draw. The question is: what does the Obama camp do next? Certainly, they may have to respond to and flesh out some of his responses. Again, my two cents:

- Use analogies with which people can easily identify. For example, regarding the flag pin: “I think we all agree that if the President of Iran put a US flag pin on his lapel that he would not suddenly be patriotic. That isn’t to say that you shouldn’t be able to express love of country with a lapel pin. However, patriotism is something not just worn, it is felt.”

- Turn to Clinton. Senator Obama was smart to use the “baking cookies” example of how words can get blown out of proportion. He should do more of this. For example: “People have their religion and other traditions at all times. But Senator Clinton herself admitted on Sunday that she turned to religion during personally trying moments. That’s all I meant to say by my poorly worded statements.”

- Stay on message. I think that Senator Obama has been off of his game for the last few days. Move past bitter-gate. Return to hope (his final answer of the debate was very good).

If Senator Obama does not get the nomination, I’m not sure how I’ll vote in the fall…

Reforms urged for drug companies.

The reports claim Merck & Co. frequently paid academic scientists to take credit for research articles prepared by company-hired medical writers, a practice called ghostwriting.
They also contend Merck tried to minimize deaths in two studies that showed that the now withdrawn Vioxx didn't work at treating or preventing Alzheimer's disease.

Obama: No earmarks for 2009. Obama did earmark $330 Million for 2008, but he supports an ammendment by Sen. Jim DeMint and will not earmark for 2009.

(Well, I still think that this meeting is a good idea, even if it means I disagree with Obama's assessment of the Middle East as I think it is oversimplified and there is more than one contibuting factor for the current situation).

Taxes, quotes, and your receipt! Debate and Discussion Thread.

Well, I found this CBS article about what we pay for with our taxes (Federal, of course). Interestingly, we pay $1,000 of our tax money as interest on the National Debt!

And as the person whom CBS interviewed said about that:

"That's like taking $1,000 and lighting a match to it," [Jim] Kessler said.

Remember the blogs concerning investors into the U.S. Debt? (I've written several concerning the economy, if you'd like to read them).

And, recall the excerpt from a response to a question posted on this MSNBC article concerning the National Debt:

Well, please direct your attention to this portion of a quote from Dennis Kucinich concerning corporations:

Well, why are we having debates over who has been "bought out" by "special interests?" Answering a question with a question is not usually my style, but in my opinion, I'm not too thrilled with about $1,000 of my money being paid toward the interest -- not even the principle -- of the U.S. Debt while I make it a point in my personal finances not to even carry debt on my credit card to the point of even being charged interest on my personal debt while others are using the U.S. Debt to buy influence! I was just reading the U.S. Constitution at Cornell University's site, and I was running across Ammendment XII:

The electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate;--The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;--the person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President. I might be reading this wrong, but the term "and in distinct ballots," suggests to me that the Electoral College can, in theory, vote for a Presidential candidate from one party while voting for a Vice Presidential candidate, from another party! (The candidates could also be independents as well.) I'm not a lawyer, let alone a consitutional lawyer, but I've read that ammendment several times, and I keep coming to the same conclusion!

One question, if that's the case, then why are we forced to vote for the President and Vice President as one ticket as popular voters while the Electoral College can vote for the President and Vice President as separate tickets?!

Questions I Want Asked at the ABC Debate on Wednesday

Here are some questions that I hope will be asked to Senator Clinton during the Wednesday debate on ABC. Feel free to comment and add your own (and try not to sound bitter…). Senator Clinton:

1) Senator Obama has raised an incredible amount of money from over 1.3 million donors nationwide. How do you reconcile this with your statement that he is “out of touch” with Americans?

2) You have branded Senator Obama as “elitist,” implying you are not or are less so. Setting aside rhetorical evidence, compare and contrast your policies, records, careers, etc., and tell us how Senator Obama is an elitist, and/or how you are less so.

3) You said that Senator Obama’s statements in San Francisco were patronizing and that people don’t want a President that looks down on them. You have pressed the issue in speeches and ads, despite Senator Obama’s clarifications of his earlier statements. Some might say that it is condescending to simplify a candidate’s positions or statements, as if you believed that people are incapable of understanding subtlety and nuance. Please comment.

4) On Sunday, you said, “…when I say politics is not a game, it is really coming from deep within me because I know that we have the opportunity to really give other people a chance to live up to their own God-given potential. And that…is the kind of grace note that makes politics worthwhile.” Yet, despite Senator Obama’s apology about poor word use, you continue to press on with broad brush stroke characterizations. Some would see this as you playing political games. Please explain.

5) At Sunday’s compassion forum, the following was asked: “…you have written of how faith sustained you in bitter times. Many of us have been sustained by our faith in bitter times. What exactly is wrong with what Senator Obama had to say?” Your response was that you were going to let Senator Obama speak for himself. On the other hand, you have spoken for him through your accusations. Please take another crack at the question that was asked. Wasn’t your turn to religion during your tough times a confirmation of the truth of his (self-admittedly) poorly worded statement?

Concerning the "bitter" disucssion over useless emotive topics: My analysis and advice.

Hey guys,

I'd rather be talking about more important issues, like the economy, health care, or civil rights, but this needs to be addressed! Seriously, since there were six weeks between MS & PA, it would be a good thing for issues that are important to us, even more controversial and debatable ones that would have been ignored over lame issues such as the disucssion of Obama's use of the word "bitter." However, since the potential fate of the general election could be determined by the votes in PA, IN, & NC, I'll have to go into it before Obama has to deal with this at the upcoming debate.

I've warned about the kitchen sink and septic tank situations that would occur during the time between MS and PA, and for the most part, Obama handled the situations really well. But, over the recent response, I think he has gone negative in a way that it could backfire.

Both CNN and MSNBC has cited these quotes, in one form or another:

"Shame on her!"he told a Steelton crowd.
"I expected this out of John McCain," Obama said in a voice more commanding than the his usual stump tone. "But I've gotta say, I'm a little disappointed when I start hearing the exact same talking points coming out of my Democratic colleague Hillary Clinton. She knows better. Shame on her."

Clinton has since called him "out of touch" and said the Illinois senator's remarks were "demeaning" and "elitist."
Obama fired back in a room of supporters at a Pennsylvania union hall.
"She's running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsmen, how she values the Second Amendment," he said, his voice rising. "She's talking like she's Annie Oakley! Hillary Clinton's out there like she's on the duck blind every Sunday, [like] she's packin' a six shooter! C'mon! She knows better."

I remember when HRC did the same thing during the March 4 primaries when she said, "shame on you," at Obama in OH. I think Obama needs to refrain from using it. Fortunately, he actually has support from a PA group, Pennsylvania Sportsmen and Sportswomen for Obama about the "bitter" comment.

Frankly, I think this was HRC's strategy all along! Using her connections to influence the election, even some potential vote tampering (I won't go into that here); nitpicking and scaring people, especially lesser-educated and blue-collar voters to her camp; and slowly wearing on Obama's nerves to the point where he gets flustered so she can use that against him during the debates and force the DNC to getting what she wants: a consideration of giving the nomination to HRC so that she can force Obama to be her VP.

Seems crazy, and I hope that this conjecture ultimately winds up being just some crazy talk, but it may not be unlikely.

To cut Obama some slack, I think Obama hasn't been feeling too well. He may not have been 100% since the questioning of Gen. Patreus. (He did cough at the beginning of the questioning, which by itself isn't something big; but, during his speeches in Lafayette and Terre Haute, IN, he seems to be pausing as if to find his words mid-sentence, which isn't his usual on-the-fly style of his speeches for town-halls. If you don't believe me, listen carefully to the video links from the blogs to see for yourself.) Also, Obama has been getting the majority of the flack from these nonsense issues and misleading controversies from the mainstream media as well, especially after Super Tuesday (that's 2/5/08 for those who may not remember).

Now what to do. First, I recommend that Obama should take an hour or two off from his campaign for the next three days to relax and remind himself what has motivated him to go into politics and run in this election in the first place. Second, I recommend Obama after these three days to go to a community center unannounced for more of a therapeutic reprieve (like the time he went to Greensboro, SC). Third, if the dinner hasn't happened yet, Obama should really let the guests speak first and then to tell them what has been going on with him during the last six weeks (more or less like a therapy session, though I'm not a therapist, so this is something of a judgement call). Hopefully, after he does that, he'll feel good enough to fight hard against HRC at the debate without going negative again.

Furthermore, if HRC gets the nomination, I really recommend to Obama about considering a run as an independent candidate, and remember, I've never cared about Obama's "party" affiliation. (See It should be about uniting the country!) Also, Obama should not chose HRC to be his VP choice and not consider either Clinton in his cabinet, though Richardson would be one to consider, especially since Richardson gave Obama his genuine support, without any indication that I could see of Richardson about any political ambition--a good thing for the next cabinet members, in my opinion. But that's early right now.

Now, the debate will be like an exam Obama has taken over and over again, with variations on the questioning, sadly. I recommend Obama remembers what happened during the Super Tuesday debates and the Baby Tuesday (3/4/08) debates as well as the last-minute attacks on you during those times, but consider the current situation and anything unexpected that he has yet to consider.

Senator Obama, I've been through a difficult situation as well. When I was in SGA as a representative, two of my fellow representatives who were very outspoken walked out unexpectedly, with little warning because of issues with the VP of SGA. I really fell apart, but later on, I managed to fight back, and had the opportunity to work on a resolution that could have been something a real Congressperson would have dealt with. I didn't (and still don't) have strong oratory skills, but I gained a lot of respect from people, even from those who disagreed with me on the resolution.

Wow, that's a long one for me, and I apologize for any offensive content.

But, I know Obama can overcome this "bitterness."

In addition, they need to pay attention to their LOCAL, STATE, and CONGRESSIONAL elections because not even you, or any president can do it all.

My opinion on Carter's trip to Syria: Debate thread.

So, Frm. Pres. Carter decided to go to Syria and he may be talking to Hamas, against the advice of the U.S. Dept. of State.

Even though the State Department and Sen. Obama disagree with the trip, I'll say that it might not necessarily be a bad idea, as Israel may be quietly talking to Hamas. Depending on what happens during the visit, it might wind up doing more good.

Well, it's too early to judge what's going to happen, until it all plays out.
