With less than two weeks until Election Day, Senator Amy Klobuchar and Obama’s Minnesota state director Jeff Blodgett will make four campaign stops across Minnesota to make the case for change to undecided Minnesota voters.

Events will be held in St. Paul, St Cloud, Grand Rapids and Virginia to highlight Senator Obama’s comprehensive plans to restore the economy and lead our country in the 21st century.

The day’s events will kick off at 10 AM at the State Capitol in St. Paul on Thursday. With undecided voters making their decisions over the next few days, these events will speak to independent voters who are concerned with the direction of our economy and are fed up with the viscous attacks and smear tactics being used in the campaign.

Jeff Blodgett explains:

Undecided voters are starting to make their choices and they are seeing a stark contrast between the two candidates for President. Senator McCain has been erratic and out of touch in the face of a serious economic crisis, while Barack Obama has shown strong and steady leadership.

As Minnesotans have struggled to deal with the economic crisis, the McCain campaign has stooped to the worst kind of smear tactics that our political process has to offer and Minnesotans are just fed up. Minnesotans want to hear about how we’ll get out of this economic mess, not more negativity and dishonesty.

In 17 short days, Minnesotans will go to the polls to vote in the most historic election of our time. That is, of course, if they are asked. We know that the number one reason people don’t vote is that no one asked them to.

The Albert Lea Tribune writes "Obama is a clear pick for president"..

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama deserves your vote for president of the United States.

His vision for a better country includes nation building — the United States of America. His opponent, Arizona Sen. John McCain, has a motto of “Country First,” but his policies seem to be more like country club first.

Obama wants to implement domestic policies that make a difference in the lives of ordinary people, such as improving the inefficient health care system, taking proper care of veterans, ending the war in Iraq and bolstering the federal student loan program.

His plan for taxes makes the wealthy Americans shoulder their fair burden for government and lessens the burden on everyday folks. The past 30 years has pushed more and more tax burden onto the middle class, while oil companies, drug companies and other special interests line their pockets. It’s time for that to stop. It’s time for a president who comes from lower- or middle-class people, a president who relates to average Americans.

McCain says he is different than President Bush. To be sure, he is. Either McCain or Obama would be better than Bush. No matter who wins, America is better off.

Even so, McCain represents corporate interests. He still calls for tax cuts for the rich and thinks it will solve the economic crisis. Even wealthy investor Warren Buffet favors Obama’s economic plan.

Further, electing Obama also sends a message to the rest of the world that Americans want to heal the international rift caused by the go-it-alone Bush administration.

Look at leadership, too. Obama mulls choices before making them. In Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, Obama picked a vice president. McCain made a rushed and amateurish choice in Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. He picked a running mate, not a vice president.

McCain once seemed his own man but allowing the Karl Rove gang into his campaign only has made him look like part of the same Republican machine that is to blame for the problems of the past eight years. What happened to straight talk?

Obama leads a campaign staff that works well as a team and has come a long way in two years. He is a natural leader.

It seems some of the great presidents have reached across party lines and even appointed members of the other party in their cabinets. Two are Ronald Reagan and Franklin Roosevelt. Obama seems willing to do the same. This Democrat is not as partisan as past candidates in the national stage. He is the right choice for America.

Last weekend, a group of "Mamas for Obama" used the my.barackobama.com grassroots organizing tool to set up a playdate with their kids at their neighborhood park.

From the beginning, this campaign has been about everyday people stepping up to make change happen in their own communities. As Barack said today in Londonberry, NH:

John McCain thinks this campaign is all about me – but the truth is, this campaign is about you. Your jobs. Your health care. Your retirement. Your children’s future. That’s what this election is about. That’s what I’m fighting for. Because I can take 3 more weeks of these attacks from John McCain, but the American people can’t take four more years of the same failed policies and the same divisive politics. That’s why I’m running for President of the United States.

Barack was raised by a single mother who put herself through school, followed her passion for helping others, and taught Barack that there are no barriers to success if you are willing to work for it.

His grandmother, who also helped to raise him, worked on a bomber assembly line during World War II. Michelle, Barack's wife, has been described as "the rock of the Obama family." She and Barack want their two daughters, Malia and Sasha, to grow up in an America where both work and family are part of the American Dream.

All of Barack's accomplishments have been made possible because of these women. And it is because of these women that Barack fights for women's rights. He fights for healthcare and education, support for working parents and an insistence on equality.

These are the issues that are important to the women who support Barack -- women who come from all types of backgrounds, and who are united by care for their families and their communities.

Over the weekend, in a lead up to tonight’s first presidential debate, which will focus on foreign policy, Barack Obama’s Minnesota campaign held four town hall meetings across Minnesota to hear directly from Minnesotans about their views and answer questions on national security issues.

The campaign held town halls in Rochester, St. Paul, St. Cloud and Duluth.

U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA), chair of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, retired U.S. Army Major General Paul Eaton, who commanded the team charged with rebuilding the Iraqi army, and former Ambassador Bob Gelbard, President Clinton's Special Representative for the Balkans led the meetings.

U.S. Rep. Tim Walz and U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum also joined the campaign for portions of the tour.

Former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack will be in Minnesota this weekend, talking with folks about Barack's plans to restore the economy and make it work for rural Americans again.

ST. PAUL – Former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack will join Barack Obama’s Minnesota Campaign for Change this weekend to talk to voters around the state about Senator Obama and Joe Biden’s plan to restore the economy and turn around the current economic crisis.

Vilsack will make several campaign stops around the state on Friday and Saturday including a speech on behalf of the campaign at AFSCME Minnesota’s annual convention, a Twin Cities debate watch party, a canvass kick off in Mankato, an Alexandria office opening and a economic town hall meeting in Willmar.

“Governor Vilsack has long been a strong advocate for middle-class Americans,” Obama’s Minnesota state director Jeff Blodgett said. “He knows first-hand the struggle many families are facing in this economic crisis, and how important it is that we elect Barack Obama to make this economy work for middle-class families here in Minnesota. We’re facing a historic economic crisis, yet John McCain thinks the ‘fundamentals of the economy are strong.’ I’m not sure what world he’s living in but there’s just no way we can trust him to lead us out of this mess.”

We welcome Senator McCain and Governor Palin back to Minnesota for their brief stop at the airport. Senator McCain's stubborn insistence that the "fundamentals of the economy are strong" shows that he is disturbingly out of touch with what's going on in the lives of middle-class Minnesotans.
And, unfortunately, not leaving the airport grounds won't do anything to change his out of touch perspective. Barack Obama understands the fundamentals of the economy and will cut taxes for 95 percent of Americans.

Today, we honor the memory of the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001, and grieve with the families and friends who lost someone they loved in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We will never forget those who died. We will always remember the extraordinary efforts of our firefighters, police and emergency responders, and those who sacrificed their own lives on Flight 93 to protect their fellow Americans. The News Out of St. Paul: Community Organizing, Community Responsibility

Whether combating anti-Semitism in post-World War II Minneapolis or standing up for farmers facing foreclosure and the loss of their livelihood during the Farm Crisis of the mid-80s, community organizers like Hubert Humphrey and Paul Wellstone empowered ordinary people to do extraordinary things on behalf of the common good.

During the Republican National Convention, thousands of ordinary Minnesotans came together, driven by their belief that America can't afford another four years like the last eight, to support for Barack Obama and Joe Biden's campaign for change.

These "everyday organizers" developed their community organizing skills at Camp Obama, where over 500 grassroots supporters from every corner of Minnesota learned the techniques and strategy that will drive this campaign to victory.

And while the Republicans were in St. Paul talking to their special interest and lobbyist friends, these ordinary Minnesotans were making phone calls and going door-to-door talking to their friends and neighbors about Barack Obama's plan to make the economy work for American families.

Women reached out to women and neighbors to neighbors, with remarkable success. Over the last three days, more than 1000 volunteers knocked on over 25,000 doors and identified thousands of Obama supporters across Minnesota, spreading Barack's message of change directly to the people.

While the Republicans were in town, deriding community organizing, the Campaign for Change was out in the community doing just that--bringing new voices into the process by registering voters, encouraging folks to help those affected by Hurricane Gustav, and coming together at benefit concerts and on college campuses to change this country.

Tomorrow, after the lobbyists and the McCain attack squad have left St. Paul, the Minnesota Campaign for Change will still be out in the community, making phone calls, knocking on doors, and spreading Barack's message of hope and change.

For years, Minnesotans have proved that when ordinary folks devote part of their busy lives to organizing and building their communities, they have the power to affect change. And that's what's happening today across this state, and across this country.

Kal Penn's Minnesota Road Trip

This weekend, actor Kal Penn is going on a road trip across Minnesota! He'll be traveling from college to college, encouraging students to register to vote and kicking off Students for Obama chapters across the state.

The trip will highlight Barack's vision for fundamentally changing Washington to make progress on the toughest issues facing us and the pivotal role young people play in helping to make that change.

Kal currently stars in the medical drama House on FOX, but is known for his breakout role in Harold & Kumar Goes to White Castle. Next spring, he will serve as a visiting professor of Asian American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

American Corn Growers Association Endorses Obama

The Crown Growers Association announced their endorsement of Barack Obama for president this morning, citing his leadership on the issues important to rural Americans, notably his support of the Farm Bill.

This is only the second time that the ACGA has endorsed a presidential candidate.

Earlier this month, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar visited Farm Fest to announce the formation of Rural Minnesotansfor Obama.

Here are some excerpts from the ACGA press release on the endorsement, highlighting Barack's commitment to Rural Americans:

"When we compared the official policy statements and voting records of the two contenders for the White House, we identified an obvious choice for farm families and rural America,” announced Keith Bolin, ACGA president and a corn and hog farmer in Obama’s home state of Illinois. “We have closely studied the on-line agricultural and rural policy statements of the two candidates and their voting records. Following a meeting with the Obama campaign at our board conference in Omaha last week, the decision was clear to us. ACGA endorses and supports the election of Senator Obama for President of the United States.”

“At this time of great opportunity to rebuild not only rural America, but all America through an aggressive national commitment to renewable energy of all kinds, the voting record and policy statements of Senator Obama and Senator McCain indicate very contrasting differences,” added Bolin.

“While John McCain is a great man and a true hero, he has built a very pronounced and consistent record on agriculture and ethanol during his twenty-two years as a U.S. Senator, and it is perhaps the single most negative record of any Senator,” explained Bolin. “When compared to Senator Obama, who supports the expansion of renewable energy such as advanced ethanol, biodiesel and wind generated electricity, our decision was obvious.”

“Senator Obama also supported the recently passed Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 -- or as it is commonly called, the farm bill,” explained Bolin. “Farmers and rural voters understand the importance of farm bills. These packages not only address agriculture and farms, but cover the full dynamic scope of issues vital to rural America: conservation, trade, rural development, research, nutrition, rural credit, and more. In fact, the new farm bill spends over 80 percent of its resources on non-farm programs and rightfully does not even have ‘farm’ in its title.”

“So it is not lost on rural Americans that Senator McCain has opposed every farm bill that has come before Congress for more than a decade. It did not matter if the farm bills were written under Republicans or Democrats. It did not matter if the farm bill came at a time when crop prices were high or low, reflected policies that were “liberal” or “conservative,” or stressed conservation, rural development, trade, or research. Senator McCain opposed them all and publically demanded that President Bush veto this year’s farm bill.”

Bolin concluded his statement by addressing the issue of experience. “I can say unequivocally as an Illinois farmer that Senator Obama has exactly the same amount of experience in terms of time served in the Illinois Legislature and in the U.S. Congress as another Illinois lawyer who was elected President just as the nation was coming apart at the seams - Abraham Lincoln. Senator Obama is ready to lead America and the American Corn Growers wholeheartedly endorse him for President of the United States of America.”

New Citizen voting for Obama

Yesterday, in Saint Paul, MN I attended my ceremony to become a citizen of the United States of America. I was so eager to vote this year, but I did not know if I will get my citizenship before voting day. I used to pray every single day, hoping that I will get my citizenship before november. My goal was to be part of this election, and now I am. God answered my prayer, and now I am proud to say that I am a citizen of the United States of America. I am very happy, because I will get to vote for the first time. I know Obama will be a great president for this country, which I call my country too.

FYI: Yesterday, about 1069 became a citizen of the United States of America, just in Minnesota. I know for sure Obama will win, because he got all support of the new citizen.

My first night of phone banking

I've never "cold called" anyone. I've frankly always been a lazy person who has always been extremely shy and is terrible with rejection (which could explain why I'm still a single guy). Tonight I had thought I'd give phone banking a try.

I must admit. This campaign and/or website sure knows how to help a guy like me. The ease and guide to help tends to make the task so easy. Sure, I had a lady tell me that she doesn't want me to call again. a nursing home represenative said that they did not want me to attempt to call the particular person, but that's okay. I politely apologized, thanked them for their time, then carried on.

I had also spoken wiith a lady named Mildred in Montana. She had first stated that she was undecided. I stuck with the "script" provided, but then found myself answering her question about why I had become a volunteer. I learned that she is a senior citizen who is getting by on social security, but she doesn't like how polititians are influenced by special interest groups. Mildred shared with me that she has grandchildren my age and was worried that my generation may not have social security when we retire. Mildred's questions led her to learn about me. She wanted to learn more about why I decided to volunteer for a presidential campaign. I was honest. I had told her that I shared the frustrations of friends my age: it seems as if electable representation is a dream. I told her that I had a hunch that it might be different with Mr. Obama. I told her that I had the impression that when senator Obama speaks, it's not a calculated agenda. He seems to be a gentleman who is human, intelligent, and is willing to try to influence our political system to get back to the way our forefathers had anticipated it to be-- through representation of the people by the people. Mildred and I concluded that the political process of ours will never be perfect, but sometimea it's nice to talk to someone who also wants to help"nudge" us back to the right direction.

I have to admit...even if senator Obama does not win the presidency, I feel a sense of pride and excitement. I talked to a stranger about issues that affects her and I. We shared our concerns of the future, our disappointment of aspects of our government, and our hope for influencing change. This was all due to volunteering to help Mr. Obama. I realize that I'm living in an age where most people have no faith in their ability to influence politics. They may think that it's not worth taking the time to go out and vote or participate. If Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, or George Washington thought that it wasn't worth the risking their life to break away from the injustices of an empire...or if the actions of only a few couldn't make a difference against the superpower of that time, where would we be now?

Now I'm rambling on and on. It was all spurred by hopping on to this website to help by volunteering. Thank you Mr. Obama.

330 Obama to 248 Clinton.

Small town, rural county, oh its so conservative here.

578 people showed up at our Democratic caucus. In this conservative county.

Understand this. People want change. They want something to believe in. Obama represents this. Obama is inspiring. He will unite AMERICANS not just Democrats. its a beautiful thing.

Somali-Americans--people who were fighting Al Queda before Americans knew who Al Queda was turned out in force because one great man, a truck driver, talked to them. Somali men and women. Young people and elders. It was a beautiful thing.

It was teachers. And Librarians. And civil servants. And business people. And retired people. And high schoolers. And soccer moms. And doctors and lawyers. And many of them were wearing Obama stickers. Some of them were wearing Hillary stickers, too. But the point is, it was standing room only for Democrats in this little red county.

It is easy for Democrats to become discouraged and to feel like we cant break through when there are Republicans outnumbering us. But the thing is that Democratic values are American values. There is nothing to be ashamed of in being a Democrat. We stand for the people. We can speak up, just like Barack has, and we can change the world, starting in our backyard.

The two guys were probably tired after a long, stressful day, but they did basically avoid the question(s), which seem legitimate, about a change in procedures. The eye opener is the last few seconds, though, where the security seal tape is "tested."

We (including leaders!) Need to Stand Up for Obama!

We have to fight the negative attacks and save our positive campaign. We need to knock down the lies and highlight the truth about Barack and his record. We need to point out how ridiculous it is for Hillary Clinton of all people to be criticizing another lawyer for who he represented in practice (especially when he got there by working with a church, I mean really). We have to point out the ridiculousness of the Clinton's of all people accusing someone else of being slippery with the truth, I mean really.

Someone needs to say this stuff, but it needs to be someone other than Barack. Bill is saying most of they lying nasty stuff. Barack is about a new kind of politics. About bringing us together and about hope for a new kind of future. He is almost post-political (for lack of a better word). The Clintons are about old-style, take no prisoners, down and dirty politics. And it turned people off.

When I got to work, people were totally receptive to my Obama stuff. They mentioned that they were turned off (using coarser language) by Hillary's childish behavior. And yet Bill's nasty attacks are working.

Obama has got to stay above this.

That said, it woudln't hurt my feelings to see some of these "leaders" of the party instead of speaking quietly to Bill about his behavior, to challenge it outloud and call it the lying no good crap that it is.

Let Obama focus on where we are going. Let the others knock down this flack. Just someone step up and do it!

Where are our Democratic leaders? First they went after Barack (well, really Gore and then Kerry) and I wasn't running for President so I said nothing... Then they came after me and there was no one to stand up for me because the Democratic party had screwed up again and handed victory right to the Republicans... Republicans will out-dirty any dirty politician the Democrats can put forward, so let's put forward a transformative, positive leader. Let's put forward Barack.

That would be me. I've been listening to the rebroadcast of yesterday's debate. It is clear that Hillary got softballs while Barack got challenging questions. It was clear that CNN let Hillary go all she wanted, and did not keep her on topic nor challenge her lies, while Barack was limited at times.

Here's my thing. I loved Bill and Hill, but the 90's were a challenging time defending them for their fudging of the facts, for their questionable legal activities, for their self-serving decisions and actions. I looked past it and defended because Bill was doing good for the country.

I don't know where they get off lying about Barack and then suggesting HE's the one who is not being accountable. I don't know where Hillary-Whitewater-Clinton has any business criticizing the 5 hours of associate law work Barack did for a "questionable" person working in partnership with a church. I dont know where Bill-investing with Dubai-Clinton or his wife have any truck criticizing Barack.

I think we see why the Clintons were not and will not be the transformative leaders our party needs, Barack can be, and, to the detriment of our country, Ronald Reagan was.

Now. I am done. Let us get back to forward-looking, uniting, new-politics way of promoting our candidate.

Taking the opportunity you didn't realize was there: Frost nip for Obama

Here in Southern Minnesota its snowy and cold but not as bad as it was yesterday.

I live across from a high school that doesn't have enough parking. I regularly get blocked into my driveway, pick up litter from events, deal with students walking through my yard, etc. I can be a grumpy neighbor, I'll be honest. Teachers will speed down my street to get parked before they are "late". It annoys me.

T oday, believe it or not, is not a holiday for teachers. There's a big rah rah session across the street with all the people from the district together. I saw them start parking this morning and kept a weary eye on the street--would I get blocked in?

Thankfully I wasn't, so I went back to worrying about whether enough people would come to my pre-caucus event. If anyone other than me, my fiance and my two kids.

Then it occured to me: if I am supporting the optimistic, positive candidate, why am I being such a grump about having a bunch of teachers parked outside my house?

These are the people who need to come to my party, to our caucus, to our candidate.

I'm so jazzed! I went out, got my exercise and put 160 flyers on cars. That was from 80 sheets of paper that came off my printer. That's nothing. And all those possible Obama voters were right there, all concentrated in one place. How easy could it be?

So what are the "duh" opportunities you might be missing to get people out for Obama? This isn't brain surgery, but sometimes we democrats can be so stuck in our pessimistic thinking (my area is so conservative...it's no use...therefore it stays conservative). Where are the opportunities we might be missing? Go get me!

Family Planning Official Resigns

The doctor in charge of the Bush administration's family planning programs resigned yesterday after revealing that state Medicaid officials had taken action against his private medical practice in Massachusetts.

Eric Keroack, an obstetrician-gynecologist, became deputy assistant secretary for population affairs in November, advising Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt on matters such as reproductive health and adolescent pregnancy. He oversaw $283 million in annual family planning grants designed to provide access to contraceptive supplies, especially for low-income people.

Family planning advocates panned the pick, noting that Keroack also had served as medical director of A Woman's Concern, a nonprofit Christian pregnancy counseling organization in Massachusetts that on its Web site opposed the distribution of contraceptives as "demeaning to women."

In an e-mail to colleagues yesterday, Keroack said he was resigning to focus on appealing the action by Massachusetts Medicaid officials. HHS officials declined to provide more details, and state Medicaid officials could not be reached.

"It's a good day for women's health," said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "Keroack was unqualified to run the nation's family planning program. . . . The nation's family planning program should be run by a champion for women's health and safety."

Fox News has a horrible record of attacking Black people, politicians,
and cultural institutions. But, at this very moment, the Congressional
Black Caucus has agreed to partner with Fox News to host presidential
debates prior to the 2008 elections.

For the CBC Institute to partner with an organization like Fox
News--given its hostility to Black political interests--is
shameful. I've signed on with ColorOfChange.org to help prevent them
from making this serious mistake. Will you join us in calling on the
Institute to drop its talks with Fox?

The CBC Institute, an organization led by Black members of Congress,
claims to share ColorOfChange.org's goal of politically empowering
Black America. But after being presented with the case against Fox
and hearing vocal opposition from over 12,000 ColorOfChange.org
members, the CBC Institute elected to complete a deal with Fox.
We'd expect that they would recognize the obvious: that validating
Fox News as legitimate hurts Black America, and undermines the
CBC's credibility.

Fox's record is horrible. Their on-air personalities and regular
guests consistently marginalize Black politicians, culture, and
institutions. In fact, Sen. Obama has stopped giving interviews to Fox
reporters because of repeated attacks on his character and intimations
that he has connections to terrorism. Even the Democratic Party in
Nevada backed out of doing a debate with Fox because of remarks about
Obama, but the CBC Institute hasn't moved.

And it's not just Obama. Here's a sampling of the kind of offensive
messages put out on Fox News:

* Commenting on Hannity & Colmes about the speakers at Coretta Scott
King's funeral, featured guest Mary Matalin said, "I think these civil
rights leaders are nothing more than racists" who are keeping "their
African-American brothers enslaved."

* Jesse Lee Peterson, a regular guest who is Black said: "Kwanzaa is a
racist, pagan, Marxist holiday" and then claimed that the "so-called

* Erik Rush, another Black guest, labeled Sen. Obama's church as cultish
and separatist for espousing values of black unity and black
empowerment (Fox regularly selects Black guests it knows will
undermine Black causes). Rush said he replaced the word "black" with
"white" in the church's mission statement and "Suddenly, I was looking
at this really scary doctrine. You know, it was something that you'd
see in more like a cult or an Aryan Brethren church I would go beyond
saying they're Afrocentric. They're African centric. They refer to
themselves as an African people and that somewhat disturbs me from the
viewpoint of well, do they consider themselves Americans? Do they
consider themselves Christians?"

* On The Big Story, John Gibson, warned viewers that nearly half of all
children under the age of five in the United States are minorities.
"You know what that means? Twenty-five years and the majority of the
population is Hispanic." He then urged viewers to "do your duty. Make
more babies." He later repeated: "To put it bluntly, we need more
babies."

Given it's record, Fox News shouldn't enjoy the support of Black
political or cultural institutions connected to the Congressional
Black Caucus. We believe (or at least hope) the CBC Institute will
change course once it realizes that Black America, if not all of
America, is watching.

Presidential Hopefuls on Public Financing and FENA
The three front-runners for the Democratic nomination for
President are on the record in support of public financing of
elections. John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama have
all come out strongly in favor of a change to the system. You

exhortation for public pressure on the issue here. Republican
presidential hopeful, John McCain, meanwhile has been less
supportive of public financing while on the campaign trail this
year, but has supported it strongly in the past

for the Presidential race. He has joined Obama in promising to
run under public financing in the general election if his
opponent agrees to do the same. It's encouraging to see
discussion of and support for this policy from the presidential
field; nobody knows better than the candidates racing to raise
the millions they'll need to get to the White House that
campaign financing needs an overhaul.

New Mexico Close to Judicial Public Financing
Great news! New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson plans to turn
his endorsement of public financing for judicial races into
action when he signs the bill recently passed out of the state
legislature in special session that would expand the state's
public financing program to include state Supreme and Appellate
court races: Link. He plans to
line-item veto the "poison pill" provision in the bill that
would require voters to amend the state constitution to
eliminate retention elections (making those judges run in
partisan races) before the public financing system could take
effect. New Mexico already has public financing available to
candidates for the state's Public Regulation Commission, and the
city of Albuquerque approved public financing for municipal
elections by ballot initiative in 2005. Many thanks to New
Mexico Common Cause and Public Campaign Board member Richard
Romero, for their efforts in passing this bill!

Maryland Campaign in Final Days
Thousands of emails, hundreds of calls, and a pair of lobby days
later we are in the last week of the Maryland legislative
session: the moment of truth for a Clean Elections win in the
state this year Link. In fact, the
Senate is schedule to vote today on the bill that would bring
full public financing for legislative elections in Maryland --
the state Assembly is already in support. Though Senate
President Mike Miller (D) is notoriously opposed to Clean
Elections, the gossip in Annapolis is that grassroots organizing
(all those emails, all those calls) and the tireless efforts of
Progressive Maryland, Maryland NAACP, Maryland Common Cause,
Maryland Sierra Club, and The Reform Institute, have really
boosted support among previously ambivalent legislators for
passing Clean Elections. It's going to be quite a showdown -- as
soon as we get the results of the vote we'll let you know!

VOICEing Support
Public Campaign staffers checked their inboxes a few weeks ago
and found an email from National Field Director Jeannette
Galanis: "I think we need to go to Iowa." Why? Because a
dedicated group of legislators and activists from Iowa Citizens
for Community Improvement and the Clean Elections Coalition had
advanced full public financing legislation, the Voter-Owned Iowa
Clean Elections (VOICE) Act, farther than they ever had in the
state: far enough to make a win this year a real possibility.

A pair of bills, HSB 105 championed by Representative Pam Jochum
(D-Dubuque) and SSB 1173 headed up by Senator Mike Connolly
(D-Dubuque) have passed out of their respective State Government
committees and are moving on to Appropriations, where they look
to face formidable opposition. We are gearing up for a full
court press grassroots field effort; getting calls in to
legislators in support of VOICE, getting the word out through
door-to-door canvassing and phone banking, and ramping up
lobbying efforts in Des Moines to win Clean Elections for Iowa!

Millions of e-mails and so on...

Those of you who are getting multiple e-mails sent to you, and you want them to cease: remember to remove yourself from the listserv--it doesn't mean that you are leaving your group. There is a difference between leaving a group and leaving a listserv. This should solve many problems. Those people who are on "million voters for Barack Obama" --it makes sense to not be on a listserv because you will get millions of e-mails. That is what I did.

War Profiteering Under Federal Investigation

I knew that it was a matter of time. Billions wasted in Iraq, Dick Cheney, Halliburton, huge profits, etc. It will soon come to play in the press and senate floor that this issue, war profiteering, which used to be considered "treason" will be the new issue for the Bush administration to contend with. Many of the established rules that used to be in place by the Clinton administration concerning war profitering and contracts have been discarded by the Bush administration. We have only just begun to see the downfall of the Bush administration concerning corruption, illegal profiteering, and reckless foriegn policy.

Add this information to the horrible list of failures to the miserable Bush legacy.
