I am the living breathing temple of God, I do not need to have a temple of wood and stone for my heart is my temple and my church is my community and my mission to God is helping others and serving others unconditionally, and yes, if someone ask me to visit them and explain my ancient beliefs I gladly do and tell them about yoga exercises and yoga breathing for relaxation and may be sale a book or two for little profit for I am an entreprenuer and I enjoy sharing wisdom, but usually all or must of what I do I do, it for free unconditionally with the main purpose of helping others.

"Ohm Shanti". Children, say God the Father = BaBa, you all understand the spiritual pilgrimage very well. There are no pilgrimages of hatha yoga there. This is remembrance, and you know that their is no question of difficulty in the remembrance of God (Prayer/Meditation). There is no difficulty in one remembering God the father a few times at least during the day. You are all the children of God the father whatever name you want to call God, and you children are being sustained by God.

Which sustenance are you receiving?

You are receiving the treasures of the imperishable jewels of knowledge.

There is no difficulty in remembering Baba our sweet father God. And It really does not matter how you sit, because that is not connected with the remembrance of God. The Father God now says: Live at home with your family. You may also do your business. Whatever work you do, you have to remember the Father God. And, don't think that you can have constant remembrance of God now; no. It takes time to reach that stage.

God The Father, explains, My Children, according to the drama-plan, there is now little time left for we all are living the times of Revelations of the Holy Scriptures. You all know this is true for you all have the whole account in your itellect. They say that 3000 years before Christ there was just Bharat, and it was called heaven. Their 2000 years are now coming to an end. This makes it an account of 5000 years.

Always praise God the father = Baba, for he is full of knowledge and he is also Blissful.

God The Father is full of all treasures.

Who makes you well in life? Why have you come here?

- To claim your inheritance from God.

If someone is very healthy but has no money, then what woul happen without money?

-You have wealth in Paradise/The Golden Age/Heaven.

Those who are wealthy here have may have so much wealth and factories etc... However, when they leave their bodies, everything is finished.

But, you know that if you are humble, pure and remember God and not rich greedy person, than you should know that God will give you so many treasures in Heaven. Remember God Himself doesn't become the Master of the treasures in The Golden Age.

But, God makes you children the Masters.

You also know that no one excet God Our Father, can establish peace in the world.

Moreover, If you have no knowledge of God, there cannot be happiness. The Father God says renounce everything and consider yourself to be a Soul. And, let the Yoga of You, the Soul, be connected to Me God The Father. This is something that requires effort. For only after becoming pure do you get to understand that we all get to claim our sovereignty for we all are The Children of God our Father = The Supreme Soul = The Super Soul and The Father of Lord Jesus and of us all."

Caring for people with arthritis and caring for yourself.

Aspirin or ibuprofen can give one irritation and/or heartburn.

Encorage others to become active.

Gentle exercises, and activities such as meditation and or Yoga can help to reduce the effects of arthritis. Follow the care plan instructions of your health care provider carefully, and don't forget to use canes or other walking aids as needed.

Do you know that person E (I will not say names-just in general based on real facts of my friends) Is a senior citizen lady who has a stroke and diabetis 2. Well, You see, person E went to the foot doctor's office and the foot doctor prescribed her a nail fungus medicine that cost 100 dollars -99.99, and so, this medicine that she needs is not cover by medicare or medicaid which she has but it must be paid cashed (Duane Read said) so I called person E foot doctor for the lady who because of the stroke her speach is not quite that clear and explained that the lady cannot afford the 100 dollars medicine - thank God the Foot Doctor said he is going to try to see if he can prescribe her another medicine that is cover by medicaid. Well this lady she cannot afford this medicine for her toe nail fungus infection and she happens to be a diabetic and lives in a city project, it is a Shame that my friend this lady cannot afford the Good 100 dollars medicine that she soo much need specially her being a diabetic. So you see so many people go without their must needed medications because the medicines are not cover by medicaid nor medicare nor HMO's or either they have to get another medicine that is not as effective. This is so wrong, all human beings rich or poor should be able to get the best medicines and treatment possible.

We can continue to do nothing by just standing by, again, and let another opportunity to make a healthcare change slip by saying it was too tough a fight?

So we hope we will keep our converge, next year, that our employers will not go bankrupt or simply say they cannot afford to cover us in order to stay in business by trying to provide care?

And we can pray for our friends, who still not afford coverage, that they don’t get sick, and for those friends, family members, and neighbors facing financial disasters from lack of healthcare, that they find a way out, after we spend ?

Try this:

Taxpayers in California will pay $115.9 billion for total Iraq and Afghanistan war spending since 2001. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided 47,712,271 People with Health Care for One Year Can you say the magic number is?

One Republican, today, a leader, champion the charge against change in healthcare affordability, when asked if it is a "Moral" issue that over 47 million Americans cannot afford healthcare, only states that they do have access and insinuates they just to go to the emergency room, where all the peasants should go I guess, unless your are a member of Congress or in prison, huh?

So what to do?

Protest 21st century style, the pocket book/profit motivator protest.

1) For all of us who can still afford healthcare;

Let's all go to the emergency rooms, across the country, for our next needed visits until the Presidents bill (though I prefer single payer) is passed?

It we cannot make it affordable now let’s make it unaffordable not too?

My Advice to Israel: Think HYDRA.

After spending a year studying guerrilla warfare and counterinsurgency strategy, it's hard not to cringe when watching Israel's handling of the situation in Gaza. So, as a Jewish American with family in Israel, my two cents on the issue: think "hydra."

For those who are unfamiliar with what a hydra is, please watch this video I have posted after a quick YouTube search. It is from the Disney movie, Hercules (and skip ahead to 1:20 into the clip to save time, and stop after 3:20):

And if you're not going to watch the video, I'll put it in writing: when bombing Hamas missile sites and UN schools alike in the Gaza strip, Israel needs to keep in mind the Herculean foe that grew two heads every time one of its heads was chopped off. Yes, we all (should) support Israel's right to exist. And Hamas provoked Israel by firing hundreds of missiles into Israeli territory during what was, at least ostensibly, a cease fire. But the collateral damage from targeted bombs against Hamas is not going to make the majority of Gaza residents (who voted for Hamas in the first place, remember) turn against Hamas because of group's provocation of Israel (as Israel seems to be hoping for). One Israeli died during the missile attacks on Israel, four have died since the invasion. Wouldn't it have been a better PR move (and less deadly for Israelis) to create a big fuss about the missiles and demand foreign intervention? The inability for the latter to happen (foreign intervention) would show that Israel has to do something to defend itself because no one else is going to step in, and if four Israelis die on Israeli territory instead of dozens more Israeli and Palestinians in Gaza, Hamas would suffer from a drop in public support (infinitely more damaging than missile attacks), not Israel.

To quote General Petraeus, "an operation that kills five insurgents is counterproductive if the collateral damage or the creation of blood feuds leads to the recruitment of fifty more."

Stay tuned for my solution to the conflict (psyche), or just beg me to send you my senior thesis.

Election Day is finally here. Everyone I know is very hopeful, but still holding their breath. Our hopes have been crused before. My husband and I and most of our friends agree that we've never watched so much TV cable news shows in our lives. I can manage to have a life during the day but at night I HAVE to watch, or check online to my new favorite political web sites and blogs to track this election, state by state, vote by vote.

I thought I knew what grassroots organizing was but none of us has ever seen anything on the scale of Obama's ground effort. I am so proud to have been part of it. Like many of you, I was out at 6am today with my teenage daughter, putting GOTV signs for Obama on doors before people headed off to work. I am working the phone later today. When I wasn't volunteering, I was taking food to volunteer offices or feeling like I should go man the phones somewhere. No one has inspired me to do anything like that before.

But then, it has never felt as important, urgent really, to make sure nothing gets in the way of electing Obama. He is the right man for this time in history. And I believe him when he says that the election isn't about him, it's about us. Barack's words have inspired us and allowed us to really believe that we could be a great nation again. But the definition of "great" has changed. We don't want to just be the richest or the toughest or have the most consumer goods. What Obama has done is asked us to accept nothing less than excellence in ourselves and our leaders, our families and our communities. We can't allow ourselves to say, "it doesn't matter" about anything because it all matters. Doing what is right, being the best people, living with integrity---it all matters.

My hope for all of us who participated in this campaign and even those who didn't, is that we hold on to the unity and the passion that Obama inspired in us and not allow ourselves to fall back into complacency. We live in a new age, a global economy and we are facing many challenges. We no longer have the luxury of the mantra "the US is the greatest nation in the world" unless we make choices that really make it so. We have to rebuild the eroded foundation under those words and we have to earn the right to say them.

I hope this campaign lives on in our hearts and in the American psyche long after November 4, 2008 has passed. We all stepped up for Obama. Now let's step up for ourselves.

May this night be filled with celebration, hope and new beginnings.

Here in Camde Maine dogs are barking for Obama and letting their voices be heard ~ loud and long!

It all started when the phone banking group who have gathered in Mary and George Forrestall's home to work long and hard to get people in our congressional district on the Obama train. The house dog, Amos got a special neck scarf proclaiming his Obama support as he went out and about this mid coast Maine town on daily outings. Other volunteers wanted one for their dogs ..... a few days later ESquared produced 25 of her original design scarves and now they can be seen all over town and even as far south as Rockport Mass.

These dogs don't let the fact that they don't speak english stop the from speaking out. Their message comes through loud and clear as they get people to stop in their tracks to chuckle but then have some serious thoughts about the upcoming election and how they can help Obama

Let's hear from other dogs across the country...... what are they thinking and doing about this great guy who has stepped forward to turn the page and make a dog part of the family moving into the White House come January.

Ruby has an "I Bark for Obama" put aside for Malia and Sasha ..... just trying to figure out how to get it to them. She pretty smart and will figure it out once the election is over and she has time to dedicate to the problem.

Last night I made calls to undecided voters from the Forest Avenue office. I am still surprised that some people haven't made up their minds. You want to ask what has to happen that will tilt them in one direction or the other!

Despite calling around dinner time, people were generally nice enough. Lots of people who won't share their choice with the caller, if they've made one. Out of over 100 calls, I only had one for McCain and that was a 25 year old guy. Everyone else was for Obama, leaning Obama, undecided or won't tell.

The room was full of volunteers of all types and it was great to be there. If you haven't done this yet, it matters and makes you feel part of the movement towards the White House.

We are making history

There is such an energy in this country right now. It almost takes my breath away. After too many years of people feeling like they had to vote for the person who was the lesser of two evils, we have a leader in Obama that we can believe in. Someone who represents all that America is supposed to be about.

I have grown so tired of slogans and sound bites and empty rhetoric, not to mention all the fear-mongering coming from the McCain camp. Mediocrity has been the norm for too long in America. Obama inspires excellence and integrity and, as a nation, we should accept nothing less.

People from all over America are standing up for Obama and for the real American ideals, which are about honesty, compassion, human rights, intellegence and tolerance. And when this campaign is over, I hope that we remember that the real work is just beginning. No single person can make all the changes in this country that must be done. We all have to keep working to get this country back from the chaos and disaster of the past 8 years.

I hope we have a landslide but none of us should rest easy until the election is over. It has been an honor working on this campaign. Let's keep up this momentum.

An important time

If I can do one thing for all of the people I care about in these days before the most important election I've ever lived through, it is to tell them to vote. I hope that the vote they cast is for Barack Obama.

I know that so many of the following things are totally in the realm of Election Clichés, but they are all true and they are all very important, especially now.

EVERY VOTE COUNTS. Seriously. You have to vote. Vote early if you can. I'm going to vote tomorrow at 8:30 in downtown Portland. You can find your voting location here: www.voteforchange.com

You don't have to vote early but VOTE. This is a close race and there's already a lot of talk about ballot shenanigans. Don't let another unfit President make us cringe about being American for 4 years OVER A TECHNICALITY! I want to say proudly to the rest of the world that I'm an American. Seriously. I haven't been able to do that for too long.

VOLUNTEERING IS IMPORTANT (AND EASY). If you're on this site, you probably already know that. But do some more. Why not? There's still plenty of undecided voters that need to be called and canvassed. I plan on doing a few hours of calling this Sunday at the Forest Ave office.

MONEY IS GOOD (GIVE IT TO PEOPLE YOU BELIEVE IN). If you're reading this tonight, the Obama campaign is at an important crossroads. The next battles will have to be chosen carefully and fought well, and your donation can help. And making that contribution by midnight is a huge bonus.

I admire Obama because he has refused to engage in character assassination.

Not so, the McCain-Palin campaign. They have started to employ incredibly dirty tactics, adopting the end-justifies-the-means philosophy of running the campaign.

Sarah Palin said that Obama “pals around” with terrorists. This is a lie.

Ayres, decades ago, was a member of the Weather Underground, a “terrorist organization.”

Today he is an educational reformer and responsible member of society. Sarah Palin lied when she said Obama “pals” around with terrorists.

And I do not believe that Obama is in any sense a “pal” of Ayres.

I know that you do not fall for these tactics.

By the way, Obama did answer these charges satisfactorily in the primary. I assume you are aware of that?

Americans are tired of the old politics of “anything goes” on the campaign trail.

P.S. I had a response to one of my letters to the effect that I should be spending my time canvassing or phone banking rather than writing letters and opeds. Well, that person assumed that I only write for this campaign. Not so. I have worked for no pay since January, on the ground--because of the importance of Obama's election--for America.

People can write and work on the ground. If you have the writing bent, use it...

This past weekend I canvassed in Fayetteville, NC for Obama. The most imspiring moment--kids from a poor neighborhood volunteered to pass out leaflets...They had incredible knowledge of Obama's biography, like the names of his girls, his birthplace.

Mainers Call on McCain to Stop False Smears
and Focus on the Economic Issues Facing Maine Families.

BANGOR, ME – Mainers denounced the dishonorable and dishonest robo calls that the McCain campaign is making to Maine residents today, and called on McCain to stop the negative smears and focus on the critical economic issues facing Maine families. The campaign also urged Mainers to report negative calls to www.fightthesmears.com/report.

“I was an undecided voter until I got this disturbing call which crossed a line that should not be crossed. I will be voting for Barack Obama because I believe he has the character and integrity to lead this great nation and find real solutions to the challenges facing Mainers,” said Charles Anthony from Durham.

Mainers who received the call gathered in Bangor and Lewiston to urge McCain to give Mainers an honest debate on the issues.

“My 9-year-old son heard the message yesterday and frankly, this is not language I would even allow him to hear on TV or in a movie. It was very disturbing to me as a parent that someone who is running for president would allow a phone message to be left on families’ answering machines saying such dishonorable, disturbing things,” said David Anderson from Buckfield.

The Obama campaign received several reports from residents who received the calls. House Majority Whip Sean Faircloth urged Mainers to continue reporting these false attacks at www.fightthesmears.com/report.

“We encourage Mainers to continue reporting these false attacks. This election is too important to allow our opponent to distract Maine families from the critical differences between the two candidate’s plans for the economy,” said House Majority Whip Sean Faircloth. “What is really at stake is the fact that Obama will cut taxes for the middle class and small businesses, while McCain would deny tax relief to 101 million hardworking families, including 97 percent of seniors. It is no wonder that McCain is trying to divert attention from his plan to continue Bush’s failed economic policies.”

As the final push comes for this Presidential Campaign, I can't help but feel the optimism inside of me about to explode. We are so close to being able to once again have a leader we can trust and get behind as we all work together to repair the abuse inflicted on us by the last, terrible administration. I love Obama's message of hope and the substance which supports it. I love his integrity. I know that Joe Biden could take the helm in an instant if called upon to do so. My daughter, a high school sophomore, is helping in this campaign as well. Young people understand that this election holds the key to their futures too.

This is such a historic election. May the Obama-Biden ticket be a landslide for real change!!

New email to the media re Palin's hate campaign

Enraged people at the Sarah Palin rallies shout out, “Kill him,” “Cut off his head,” “liar.” and the words Barack HUSSEIN Obama are repeated at several times, in a mocking, menacing tone. Palin and others on the extreme right are trying with all their might to promulgate the lie that Barack Obama is some kind of radical and that he “pals around with terrorists.” In fact, Obama has denounced the violent acts of Ayres and others in the Weather Underground—back in the 60s. Ayres, by the way, has gone on to be a respected professor at the University of Chicago , educational reformer and responsible member of the community. Obama is not particularly close to Ayres, and Ayres has no involvement in Obama’s Presidential campaign.

Palin and others have, clearly, been ginning up hatred; let’s hope this does not result in a threat to Obama’s physical safety.

Obama, meanwhile, is clearly not a radical. He is liberal, but has been leaning increasingly to the center. Further, he is no terrorist, and clearly loves America .

Sarah Palin, and now John McCain, have stepped up their vicious attacks on Obama, playing the guilt by association game. McCain, in his most nasty voice, snarls “Barack Obama is a mystery. Who is the real Barack Obama?” ….as if Obama hasn’t been speaking in his intelligent and calm way to the American people for fifteen months about the issues that matter most to the American people: lack of decent health care for millions of our citizens, the raping of our economy by unprincipled speculators on Wall Street and the predatory loan industry, a War in Iraq that should never have been fought but that now has cost more than four-thousand American lives, not to mentioned the uncounted Iraqi lives that have been lost in the course of this conflict…and, finally, the erosion of our civil liberties and sense of privacy. Obama has refused to engage in character assassination. A sheriff in Lee County, Florida, in introducing Sarah Palin, mouths the words “Barack HUSSEIN Obama” in a smirking, hateful manner…seeking, once again, to implant the notion that Barack Obama is, somehow, a radical Muslim. Well, he is neither a radical, nor a Muslim. Another despicable lie.

This campaign has evolved into a struggle for the soul of America . Will we elect self-serving and mean-spirited leaders, or public servants who are willing to sit down political opponents in a spirit of goodwill to fashion meaningful compromise—for the good of the country. John McCain used to be capable of reaching across the aisle, in a respectful manner; but he has sold his soul to the extreme right-wing. Now, his only concern is gaining the presidency. I pray that he and his current political cohorts will not succeed.

There have been 12 Presidential elections that were decided by less than a 1% margin; meaning if less than 1% of the voters in certain states had changed their mind to the other candidate the outcome of the entire election would have been different. More than half were decided by less than a 2% margin.

In 2004,    57,787 votes would have given us President Kerry.
In 2000,    269 votes would have given us President Gore
In 1996,    575,515 votes would have given us President Dole.

How close have Presidential elections been? Closer, perhaps, than we ever guessed. Mike Sheppard, a grad student in statistics at Michigan State, has done a mathematical exercise that shows it.

He ran a computer program to answer this question: "What is the smallest number of total votes that need to be switched from one candidate to another, and from which states, to affect the outcome of the election?"

I am a grassroots volunteer for Obama from South Carolina. I was a VISTA Volunteer in Chicago and trained for my assignment in Chicago.

I want to thank the people of Chicago and Illinois for electing Barack Obama to the Senate, because he is an exceptional man and politician who will do a great job as president. He impressed me with his intelligence, creativity, and wisdom. Also, his humanity and empathy skills. He spoke in my small town in South Carolina during the primary, and did a tremendous job connecting with folks. We live in the poorest region of the state but the people here are good people struggling to stay afloat in this devastated economy. If you could see our shuttered business and the plethora of pay-day loan outfits, you would be disgusted.

Obama set forth his program to reform education and the economy. He also spoke directly to African-American parents, urging them to do everything possible to encourage their kids to study hard and stay in school. His message, "Turn off the computer, turn off the video games, turn off the TV was well received.

Thank you, again, for giving us Barack Obama.

P.S. I read the Sun-Times every chance I could get when I was living in Chicago.

I am a frequent Walmart customer from Kingstree, South Carolina. I shop at the Walmarts in lake City and Florence, among others. It has been reported to me that Walmart has engaged, or plans to engage, in an attempt to pressure employees or influence them to vote for McCain. I hope that this is not accurate. But if it is, I urge you in the strongest possible terms to cease and desist from such a practice.

I will never shop at Walmart again if this is confirmed, you engaging in such practices, between now and November 4th. I would also urge others to not shop Walmart if this is confirmed.

Discussion:

It dawned on me that many of us are getting caught
in the fear orgy the Republicans love to create
because most of their policies are based in fear.
They even fail to recognize that the opposite of
fear is not hope but trust and expectation. So
eliminating fear requires practicing trust and
expectation.

Fearing the Republicans is just more fear and
feeds their cause. They want us to be afraid,
even if all we're afraid of is them. I don't
expect us to never experience fearful thoughts,
but when we notice that we are would be a good
time to think "President Obama" and experience
the pleasure that this reality brings.

When I first thought of this I anticipated that
some, me included, would react with, "well just
thinking about it won't do it. Way too
'airy-fairy' What we need is to be in action."
Interesting thought, but aligning our thoughts
with what we want never hurts and imagining what
we want never precludes getting into action. In
fact, imagining "President Obama" is more likely
to inspire those actions that will create this
wonderful outcome.

Not to mention, if a whole bunch of us are
feeling good, instead of afraid, resigned and
helpless, then we will probably get a whole lot
more done. Practice this thought and notice that
it makes you feel good and certainly more
resourceful. The decision to send this email came
to me last night after deciding to practice this
thought myself yesterday. "President Obama"
Aaaaah. Happy and relieved. Like taking off a
shoe that's too tight (or in this case, maybe a
noose).

I did the math and if each of sends this to ten
others and only five send it on then in 13 rounds
this email will reach over 244 Million people.
Probably less because of repeats. If we send it
to more and let's say 10 send it on then in 9
rounds 1 Billion emails will be sent. Staggering
and no-one is asking you to send any money
anywhere or informing you that you have inherited
money from a long lost relative.

When I first heard Barak Obama speak in 2004 at
the convention, I thought 'This man could be
President someday." I like many others are
inspired by him and know that behind his inspiring
words is a strong, thoughtful and courageous
intelligence. Let's join together to make

I am a grassroots Obama volunteer from rural South Carolina. I have been an NBC News devotee for many years. Please make sure that the coverage of this campaign is fair and balanced.

*When hard questions are called for, Ask hard questions of BOTH SIDES.

*Give equal time to each side.

*Do not simply talk about groups of voters that favor one candidate. For example, in the Today report from Philadelphia today, all the talk was of such groups as "working class whites." What about young voter, better educated voters, African-Americans. These voting groups should also be mentioned.

*When you interview voters, try to keep the representation balanced.

*Avoid focusing on unfounded rumors, gossip, character assassination, tabloid-like stories. Focus on the issues, the candidates' basic perspectives and the positions they take or have taken in the past. temperment, intelligence, mental fitness are also relevant factors to discuss.

Sept. 17, 2008 – For some reason Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin conducted official state business using two Yahoo e-mail accounts. That decision is now under scrutiny since the e-mails were made public by hackers who decided to take a peek.

On Tuesday, a group of computer hackers exposed private communications from the governor by hacking into her accounts. The incident is now raising two questions: Why would Palin use a Yahoo account rather than her official state e-mail? And was she hiding communications, including some regarding the state trooper investigation?

According to The Washington Post, hackers found personal photos and the contents of several messages that they listed on an Internet site called Wikileaks.org, under an “anonymous” donor.

The two accounts in question, “gov.palin@ yahoo.com” and “gov.sarah@yahoo.com” also have a Freedom of Information Act request pending.

The Post is reporting that Alaska activist Andree McLeod filed the request Tuesday to dig deeper into the e-mail stream. McLeod suspects sensitive Alaska state business information could be revealed by Palin using an unsecured e-mail account.

McLeod told The Post, “If this woman is so careless as to conduct state business on a private e-mail account that has been hacked into, what in the world is she going to do when she has access to information that is vital to our national security interests?”

The McCain campaign issued a statement regarding the recent incident saying, “This is a shocking invasion of the governor’s privacy and a violation of law.”

The investigation to discover who the hackers are has now been turned over to “the appropriate authorities,” according to Rick Davis, spokesman for the McCain-Palin campaign.

It looks like the Palin honeymoon is over, and she might want to stick to using a secured e-mail address from here on out.

Please send an email to MSNBC regarding their misidentification of Sharpton as a community organizer. this is obvious propoganda, probably emenating from the McCain campaign--to link Obama to Sharpton. Flood MSNBC with email. Meredith on the Today show is so obviously biased toward McCain-Palin that it is disgusting. Chris Matthews is just a loose cannon. Sometimes he says things that are on target, sometimes he plays right into the hands of the extreme right. Go to the MSNBC website and find the correct links. Also, Tom Brokaw has been lazy in his research and has been tilting toward McCain...He keeps bringing up the Obama risky data without mentioning other data that is favorable to Obama; for example, the American people feel he is more tuned into to there problems.

My new letter to USA Today

It disturbs me that Republicans dismiss Barack Obama’s work as a community organizer as not a serious qualification for President of the United States. I strongly disagree. The kind of organizing that Obama did can be likened to advocacy and empowerment of American workers in Chicago. I submit that this is good work and is relevant to his candidacy.

The focus on this aspect of his resume by the Republicans and media lately is disingenuous, also, because Obama has many other excellent qualifications—his work as a civil rights attorney, his teaching of law, his excellent work in the Illinois State Senate. No, he has not been a United States senator for long, but he has done some significant work in the area of ethics reform. Also, he has advocated strongly for our returning veterans and has contributed to the formulation of other significant legislation, in the areas of energy and the environment, for example, and as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Obama is a man of integrity and authenticity, possessed of not only intelligence but amazing wisdom for a man of his age, as well as creativity. He has pledged to end the Iraq while bringing our troops home safely. He has said repeatedly that he will strive to bring the political parties together in DC and people from all walks of life around the country.

Finally, he has been running a positive campaign, focusing on the critical issues facing this nation, while avoiding tactics of character assassination and guilt by association. The admirable way he has conducted himself in this campaign strongly suggests that he will be a great president.

Not to say that Obama is a perfect man or candidate, as he himself has repeatedly stated. He has admitted mistakes he has made in this campaign on a number of occasions. Therefore, last but not least, the fact that he has his ego under control (far from being arrogant or “presumptuous,” as Republicans have charged) constitutes an excellent qualification to be president. Yes, he is a confident man; no, he is not arrogant. There is a difference.

I worked on the campaign in the primaries and I know there are hundreds of volunteers who want to work for Barack Obama this fall in the swing states, but a lot of these volunteers, students and recent college graduates like myself (Stanford 2008), don't have the resources to get where they are needed.

If you have 25,000 miles on any airline, you likely have enough miles to sponsor a verified volunteer's trip to work in a swing state! Registering new voters and talking to undecided voters face to face is the best way to fight all the smear campaigns and attack ads we are facing.

In the primaries one woman with a phone line raised two million miles for Obama! For the general election we can raise even more!

I read today that Obama said he had more experience than Palin did. I hope he drops this line real quick. McCain should be the focus. Don't compare yourself to the VP. That just opens up a trap for the R's to say, he might have more experience than the VP, but not McCain. Forget about Palin, go after McCain. Its his policies, not hers. McCain is the policy leader, if not, then challenge McCain as to what that ticket stands for or stands against. Biden should be the one going after Palin and how her issues don't line up with McCains statements from the past (ear marks, and others). I'd love to see Hillary out there saying I know Hillary Clinton, and you are not Hillary Clinton. Hilllary, stands for X, Y, Z.

Now is the time

Obama's acceptance speech clearly showed the direction he and his administration will come January. Obama clearly shows how the present administration has failed the American people on so many levels. The historic moment happening on the anniversary of King's march on Washington's speech just seems so stunning. My parents grew up white in the south decades before the Civil rights movement. Something has clearly shifted by Obama's ability to transcend the old racially charged beliefs like America is not ready to nominate a person of color. It is my intent to take it one step further and see to it that Obama wins in November.

My father, who supported Bush, served in WWII and grew up in the Jim Crow South not questioning his status or the status quo --supports Obama. I think that's an incredible shift. Like wise my aunt and mother who grew up in rural Maryland--a racially divided border state--where the divide can still show itself although these days the gulf is one based on class as much as race-- also support Obama.

McCain's choice of a woman for vp seems politically motivated.. He states "she is what I need." McCain doesn't state she is what the citizens need. The election is about Americans not McCain getting his presidency.

Election winner or not, Obama inspires action

To the editor:

I have been considering, as a committed, grass-roots volunteer for Sen. Barack Obama, what I will be engaged in, politically and otherwise, after November — should he win or should he lose.

Should he win, I will do all I can to tear down barriers of misunderstanding and animosity that divide by race and economic status, by religion and cultural perspective, within my local community, state and nation. I will also strive hard to empower our most vulnerable citizens — the poor, the disabled and our children — while conveying to them that they are regarded as individuals of great worth.

And should he lose, I will be similarly engaged. That's what his writing ("Dreams From My Father," "The Audacity of Hope"), speaking (Martin Luther King Jr. Day speech, Philadelphia speech, Berlin speech) and personal example have inspired me to do.

Senator Barack Obama is a man of integrity and authenticity who has been running a very positive campaign. He has refused to engage in character assassination or guilt by association. One of his primary goals is to bring the political parties together in Washington, D.C. and people from all walks of life around the country. Obama refuses to play the race card or to demonize his opponents.

He intends to end the War in Iraq and bring our troops home safely, while joining with NATO in Afghanistan to bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. He is also determined to bridge the gap between Palestinians and Israelis, and help them create peaceful, democratic states, side by side. Obama will provide support for our returning veterans, including excellent health care, educational benefits, and job training. No more homeless veterans, abandoned by our government!

Obama is committed to reforming our health care and educational systems. He will do such things as eliminating the red tape involving “preexisting conditions,” as well as reforming No Child Left Behind, so that teachers and schools are rewarded for good performance and adequately funded. He will also stress movement to green energy alternatives— this effort will stimulate the economy, and create job opportunities, while cleaning up the environment.

Obama has a strong set of personal and family values. He is a committed Christian who respects diversity of opinion, when it comes to religion. His multicultural background is a plus, in that it enables him to empathize with folks who hold to differing points of view.

Obama stresses that he is not a perfect person or candidate. His flexible approach to policy-making means that he will truly listen to Republicans, Democrats and Independents, and then make a reasoned decision. While he has a strong set of core beliefs, Obama is a person who is not afraid to change his mind, or formulate a political compromise, “for the greater good.”

Obama is a self-confident man, creative and intelligent. But he is far from being presumptuous or arrogant, as some of his opponents have claimed. He has stated, with humor, many times on the campaign trail that his wife, Michelle, has been instrumental in helping him to keep the ego in check. For Barack and Michelle, the first priority in their lives are their children.

I haven't been on in awhile but in that time I have been paying attention to the news about Barack and McCain. I have been impressed with Barack and disgusted about what McCain has been saying. I recently began work at the Barack Obama office in Portland Maine. I think my work with the campaign will help him get him elected as the next president of the United States of America. With the publication of three books attempting to smear Obama, it is important that grassroots folks respond to the lies with the truth. For example, the author of Obama Nation claims that Obama is a Muslim, because he attended classes in Islam while in public school decades ago, in Indonesia. He also claims that Obama was "registered" as a Muslim during that time. So what, if he was, in fact? He has been a Christian for many years. We all have a history, we all grow and change and fashion our own beliefs--as adults.

I made the mistake of watching Fox for ten minutes

It was the Geraldo Rivera show. He was enjoying sifting through the dirt of John Edwards affair. Many of the Fox commentators have no conscience. Fox is famous for distorting the truth, engage in character assassination and guilt by association.

As I said, try not to get too caught up with these internet machinations. They want us to lose focus. Just respond selectively to a few media outsets, write letters to the editor or opeds and submit them to newspapers, notify the Obama campaign and mediamatters, and then focus on positive, concrete campaigning and the others aspects of your life, of course.The right wing and racists will drive yoju crazy. Put egos aside, problems must be solved

Any problems between the Democratic party in any state and the Obama campaign, any problem between Hillary and Obama supporters, any problem between grassroots volunteers and Obama staff--and there are some significant problems out there, though not everywhere, I assume--must be solved now. This election is too important to blow it--the most important since 1960.

No one has all of the answers--none of the elements of the campaign that I have just mentioned...No one is all-wise, all-knowing. We need to work together, learn from each other, join forces, for God's sake.

Who wants the extreme right wing to continue to control the political process? Let's get it together, folks...

The recent threat on Obama's life, and subsequent arrest of an individual, reminds me of the hate speech, character assassination, racism, and guilt by association that have been condoned on talk radio and cable news since January. Liz Trotta's statement is an example...She stated that she would like to see "Osama and Obama" both "bumped off." This incident was basically swept under the rug by the media. She later ISSUED A STRONG apology and said she was joking, but I watched this clip several times, and I GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT she was not kidding. I filed a complain with the FCC and they said they would investigate.

(And please add the following paragraph...)

Liz Trotta, with three Emmys, should not be condemned, but the media should be put on notice that similar irresponsible journalism will be met with an uproar from fair-minded Americans.

I urge others to respond to the media when these incidents occur, and in extreme examples--like the Liz Trotta incident--to the FCC.

Let's not have a repeat of 1968, folks.

The "Race Card"

A friend of mine on Digg - TCBishop, a lifelong Republican - has just written the following comment on one of the articles posted there. His comment was so good, I wanted to share it with all of you. I know he'd approve:

Today Exxon/Mobil announced the largest profit of any company ever. Hmm...could there be any connection to the fact that their cronies are sitting in the White House? That the Republicans give huge tax breaks to giant corporations like this rather than to working people?

Anyone have a problem with the fact that McCain would like to let them have the green light to drill for more oil wherever they like? Further despoiling our environment and ignoring the fact that we should be decreasing dependence on non-renewable fossil fuel? (Hmm, McCain+ Fossil...had to be a connection there...)

Barack's energy policy makes sense for America, and respects the needs of living with limited resources. (McCain wants to build more Nuke Power Plants fer gods sake!)

So that is Today's reason why I am voting for Obama for president.

NBC tilting poll numbers

On the Today Show, NBC continues its campaign, apparently, to cherry pick polling numbers favorable to McCain, when the vast majority of the polling data is positive for Obama, in terms of an overall popular lead, in terms of electoral votes, and in terms of battleground states. Again, NBC headlining the "Obama riskier" stat when in the same poll there are many positives, in terms of Americans' perception of Obama.

what I am saying can be verified if you will simply examine current polling data on RealClear. For example, see the most recent polling.

The political use of polling

NBC's handling of their recent poll suggests how numbers can be manipulated or used for or against a candidate. Some numbers from the poll were headlined and highlighted, others were ignored. Some of these problems with reporting may be unintentional and a result of time constraints. But we need we need to be aware and willing to respond to media outlets that convey a distorted impression of Barack or the current state of the race. I have copied, below, the email I sent to Meet the Press and Chuck Todd, with whom I have had frequent correspondence, regarding this matter...

I am a grassroots Obama volunteer from Kingstree, South Carolina.

If you utilize the recent NBC/WSJ poll results on Meet the Press, I hope you and Chuck Todd (if he is on) will have time to present a balanced view of the data with respect to Obama and McCain.

In the NBC reporting of this poll that I have seen, some significant positives for Obama in the poll have not been mentioned.

For example, in this poll a majority of voters perceived Obama as more...

Easygoing and likeable, offering hope and optimism, being compassionate enough to understand the people, and improving America's standing in the world

As Chuck Todd has reported, if Obama were pitted against McCain today, Obama would receive 47% of the vote, McCain would receive 41% of the vote. But I have not heard it mentioned that if Bob Barr and Ralph Nader were thrown into the mix, Obama would garner 48% of the vote, while McCain would garner 35. So the third party candidates could make a huge difference, at least in terms of the popular vote.

44% of Obama voters are excited about him, while only 14% of McCain voters are excited. I have also not heard this mentioned in broadcasts. This finding could be significant in terms of election-day turnout.

Chuck Todd did say on Nightly News that voters surveyed consider Obama the more mainstream candidate, though I could not find that data in the poll, posted on RealClear.

Finally, voters, by a 60-30 margin, said they favor a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, in effect agreeing with Obama's position.

There are positives for McCain in the poll, too, of course. For example, a majority saw McCain as having stronger leadership qualities, being consistent and standing up for his beliefs, being more honest and straightforward (by a narrow margin), and being a good commander in chief. And, as has been widely reported by NBC, a majority of voters surveyed consider Obama to be the riskier choice.

I just ask, if this poll is cited, that a balanced view of the findings be given. Also, it should be noted that polling is only a snapshot. For example, the full impact of Obama’s trip overseas has not been yet been seen.

Chuck Todd does an excellent job of crunching the numbers, but I hope that he is given time and takes the opportunity to present a balanced picture, though I understand that time is a strong limiting factor in the presentation of network news.

Know that we are working as hard as we can to elect Barack Obama President of the United States, a man of integrity and authenticity, intelligence and wisdom, who (by the way) does have his ego under control. He freely admits that he has his ego under control. He is running a positive campaign and does not engage in character assassination. He wants to bring people from all walks of life together, and end schism in Washington, D.C.. He wants to bring peace to the Middle East, and I believe will go to virtually any len gths to achieve that. He has not played what we call "the race card" in the United States; that is, he has not used race either for or against anyone. He is serious about cleaning up the environment. He is going to provide a vastly improved health care program in the United States. He will stand up against genocide wherever ikt occurs. He will end the detainee abuse at Guantanamo. he will strongly oppose the Taliban; the Taliban has oppressed religious minorities, women, etc.. He will focus on the capture of Osama Bin Laden. He will reach out to every country and every hemisphere. I will not be afraid to negotiate with anyone. That does not mean that he is going to cave in to any demands. He is not opposed to moderation; he is more moderate than most people realize. I see him as a liberal leaning to the center, which is fine with me.

Hopefully, we will have a strongly Democratic congress and Barack in the White House, to restore sanity and a humane perspective to our government.

Citizens of the world, the time is now for fundamental transformation in America, and the world.

Stand up, be strong, speak out

Email to a fellow grassroots organizer in South Carolina:

I am convinced that Obama folks, and Obama himself, need to respond strongly to attacks by the extreme right or media based on character assassination and guilt by association. How to respond: certainly by writing letters to the editor and media outlets, when they are implicated in spreading the dirt. The important thing is to respondly cogently, with the truth, but, yes, with passion. "All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men (and women) to stand by and do nothing." Actually, this saying is repeated within many cultural milieus.

We do not need another Swift Boat assault to be responded to weakly. As I said over and over within another group, you must stand up to a bully. When you do, frequently they turn tail and run. At the core, a bully is a coward.

Barack, himself, has done an excellent job of standing up for himself. As he said, "I do not do cower." And he does not. When you ignore abuse of any kind, the abuser only escalates his (her) attack. We must have courage. But as I said, respond cogently, and with facts.

Folks, let's not have a repeat of 2004. Stand up, be strong, speak out (appropriately).

That's how I see it.

In addition, the attempt to gin by the racial aspect of this campaign by too many in the media and the extreme right must be responded to, not ignored. Racism flourshes in the shadows. When it is forced out into the light, it withers up and dies.

I think that interstate communication is a good idea...

I urge Maine folks to write letters to the editor. Try USA Today. I had three published during the primaries. And write your own opeds. I had two published in regional papers (in the South, I am from SC).

I have special feeling for Maine, since I lived in NE 20 years, and my step-daughter graduated from maine College of Art.

I got in touch with one of our key people at our first house meeting and she explained that her family had issues to deal with and that was the reason why they could not make it. So I now know that three families had good reasons for not being at the second meeting, plus we needed an action focus to bring people out. So I need to avoid any paranoid feelings when things don't go right.

I am glad that the field organizer will be setting up the next meeting for our county. That will take a lot of pressure off me. It's not jujst up to me, that's for sure. I just want to be a part of the effort, and help to elect Barack Obama.

As Barack said, "It's not about me (meaning him). It's about all of us. It's not about Patrick Frank either.

Lewiston Auburn Kick Off

On Saturday, I had a great time meeting the staff and helping out by putting up signs for the new Obama office in Auburn. It's in the Key Bank building at Great Falls Plaza if you didn't know. On Sunday they had the Maine AG Steven Rowe and lots of volunteers ready to go out canvassing. It was a great weekend.

Stop by and sign up to do something. Getting people to register to vote is a good first step if you are a little hesitant when it comes to asking people political questions. Just ask if they are registered, have them fill out the green registration card, ask them to remember Barack Obama and all the Democrats come November, and then take the card back to the field office. It's really easy and you don't have to sell anything or wear an Obama shirt, just get people registered.
