The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has printed about 250,000 tickets to the Jan. 20 swearing-in ceremony at the west front of the U.S. Capitol.

The tickets are free and will be given to members of Congress and to President-elect Barack Obama's presidential-inaugural committee, once that is established. Those who want to attend the ceremony should contact their local member of Congress to request tickets. The viewing area will stretch from the Capitol along the Mall. Some more distant parts of the viewing area will not require tickets and probably will be served by huge video screens.

Congressional staffers said Friday that there were reports of advertisements on the Internet selling inaugural tickets for hundreds of dollars each. They said any such ticket would be false and of no value

I located a hotel that is approximately 2.5 hours out, but on the route to the White House. I anticipate a two night lay over to save money. This trip will take place during the early morning hours of Jan 18, 2009 and boarding the bus the evening after the inauguration and parade (this is not a guarantee of tickets to either event)
Please note: I was unable to locate a hotel within 1 hours distance of the White House

I located a bus company that will change out our bus driver three times, to ensure that our driver is well rested. According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 28 hours of TV each week. If you haven't yet volunteered to help the campaign, can you find one hour a week to help Obama win this election? C'mon, just one hour a week?

You can use this web site to locate volunteer opportunities and activities.

How about writing a short letter to the editor of your newspaper? Reference one of their recent articles on the campaign or a candidate, and tell the editor what you think of it. You can do this from home in 20 minutes.

You could take a friend or family member and spend a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon helping register voters. It's fun and rewarding.

Not working? Sign up to be a Nov. 4 election judge in a local precinct.

Two evenings a week, spend 30 minutes making phone calls for the campaign.

Get involved through MoveOn.org. I've volunteered with them on two previous elections. They are very well organized.

Attend a rally or potluck for Obama with other people in your area.

Think of what is at stake here. There are tons of different ways you can help. So come on, pick one and just do it. Every single volunteer makes a difference, and together we can change this country for the better by putting Barack Obama in the White House.
