On January 15th, 2010, Americans will gather, peacably, on the DC Mall to show our continued support for the progressive agenda our POTUS campaigned on. We voted for President Obama b/c we hoped for more from our government: more compassion, more diplomacy, more honesty, more protection, and more equality.

On January 15th, 2010, we will stand in opposition to the voices of fear, ignorance, and hate that have, thus far, garnered virtually all the attention of the main stream media and skewed the debate over issues that are far too important to ALL Americans. We've written and phoned our Representatives in the House and Senate. We've remained a diligent, anonymous, but silent majority. Now, is the time for America to see our faces and hear our voices.

We are not going to get any support from the Republicans on passing any form of health care reform. Don't waste your valuable time trying to change their minds. Instead, go after the Democrats who are playing political games with our lives, while lining their pockets with donations form the medical corporation. Let them know you will not allow them to put a $$$ on the lives of our citizens.

Here are the Dems we should be putting the pressure on. Each day, take a couple minutes to send them a message. Let them know NOT voting for Health Care Reform is signing a death warrant for tens of thousands of American each and every year.

You do not have to fall under their constituency to let them know how you feel. Tell them if they do not do what is best for Americans, instead of themselves, you will do what ever you can to support their opponents come election time.

Of the Stupak Amendment.... A subjection of Women?

I had no idea it was 1973 all over again!

Has it not been passed into US law that a woman has the right to choose? When Mills lamented in 1869 about the subjection of women, little did I think that to-date society would still act in the same way. It gives me great pain to see that our men are actually taking us back to 1800s. What is the difference with the laws then and now? Did women not win rightfully, and did US Congress not recognize a woman’s right to choose after it came down from the highest court in the land? And why are we debating abortion in the first place? What a shame! That a Democratically controlled Congress should even consider putting into law, the legal subjection of women in this 21st century. What the House did on Saturday, and what I now hear that some members of the Senate are proposing against women’s heath is appalling, if not downright abomination! They wish to put into law that which will put women down, will women 10 steps back, and that which Mills called “… a legal subjection of women…” with total disregard of women’s input as if we don’t even exist! I hear these Senators and Representatives say that women will have to purchase a separate healthcare insurance for abortion! This is ridiculous! And as Mills lamented then, and I second him today, the act of legally stopping a woman from choosing for herself is a major hindrance to human development and progress. By allowing this so called Stupak Amendment, the society will have admitted to some unmentioned laws… ‘That some animals are more equal than others, admitting power and privilege on the one side’, and subjecting the other side to disability and incapacity. This is plainly wrong. Needless to mention, that the same women that you now trample on, are the same ones that brought you to power and prominence. How could you allow the Republican Party to manipulate your brains? Can’t you just be normal representatives who act consciously and for once putting your constituents first before politics?

I hear that in Congress it’s about arm-twisting and deal-cutting, but in my view, some deals are better left uncut. You my dear men, are not going to cut deals at the expense of women’s health. This is a battle that I am afraid you are going to lose. What was the Hyde Amendment all about then? Why is it that every time somebody has to loose in this society it has to be a woman? Do we not live in a democracy? Are both sees not entitled to the same human rights? Health rights?

Mr President,these thoughts i am about to outline are both to you and to the American people for as a keen observer of all the ongoing events,i think a good percentage of Americans are either lost in translation,or they are just stupid and stuborn.Mr President i want you to know that you are doing a phenomenal job for some of us who got a brillant mind like you and are great free thinkers.To those of you who don't understand,i am going to help you Mr President,to break it down for them so they can let you go further with your agenda,and achieve these brillant visions that we have for America.

I say, Go for it Barack! For those Americans who do not want their children to hear the President's address - should turn off their tvs at the time of the address. For the rest of us - the address goes on. How petty have the conservatives become? Is this the same America I longed for just a few years ago? What is so wrong with our President giving a little stratight talk to our upcoming/ future leaders? I am so disappointed at the right-wing of the Republican Party. Where are the Republican Congressional leaders anyway? Why are they leeting a few angry people take their Party under siege? I am equally disappointed at the "so-called bluedog Democrats" What is the point of calling them Democrats if they cant even defend the Party's principles? Did we campaign for them for nothing? I would them to know that we too are Americans, even though we don't go out and yell in townhalls.

I was very pleased at the way Sen. Warner (VA) handled a few rude people at his healthcare town hall yesterday. It was very clear that these "townhall crazies" choose not to follow the truth about healthcare - that they choose to follow the lies told by those right-wing extremists who have hijacked the Republican Party. It's people like these that indoctrinate the minds of young people with hate! Why are they so full of hate? Elections have consequences, and this time the Republicans lost - accepting this is the essence of our democracy.

So Mr. President, go ahead with your planned education talk - do not blink/ burge! For single parents like me and many others are counting on American leaders like you to be role models and the guiding light to our youngstars! We have your back Sir.

My Fellow Americans...It is VERY important that we stay focused on the #1 health problem in America. That is the 47 MILLION AMERICANS with NO HEALTH CARE at all !!!!! That should be focus #1. EXACTLY how will the 47M be able to receive the basic necessity of life...the ability to go to the doctor when one is sick. For those millions of you who have coverage, you have absolutely NO CLUE what life is like without that simple ability. How absolutely frightening a simple cough or headache can be...hoping that it doesn't turn into something that needs real medical care. Or when you get a severe toothache...but you can't go to the dentist so you fight through the agonizing pain....forced to ask friends if they have any penicillin pills that you can take....because you have to doctor on yourself.

PLEASE STAY FOCUSED my friends. The 47 million who are suffering represent our government's new Katrina. Will our gov't turn their backs...as they did with Katrina....or will they actually correct this third world like American disgrace ? That is THE question !

Gov. Mark Sanford, a "true Conservative" !

Now that he has garnered more media attention for himself with his recent antics, the mysterious disapperance, the fake "mountain hike", the tearful revealation of his adultery, Gov. Mark Sanford has focused our minds on his legacy to South Carolina, and to the American people.

For years Sanford has claimed that he is a "true Conservative". He has powerful convictions, exemplified by his statement "What I believe I truly believe. I can't do the flavor-of-the-month approach." Sanford believed government should be small, spend little, even if that means allowing the poor and their children to suffer. Even if that means turning down 700 Million dollars in federal stimulus money for his state because he is afraid of "creeping Socialism". Even if that means rejecting money that could rebuild crumbling schools, forcing teenage girls to take him to court to make him take stimulus funds by court order.

Sanford has been true to conservative ideology. Let the schools fall to pieces, let the unemployed and their children starve, just as long as the brave and heroic individualists like Sanford can hold onto their low tax rates for the wealthy, no matter what the cost to society. According to Sanford, taxpayers should not be burdened with helping the sick, the poor, or the jobless.

But when it comes to using taxpayer dollars to finance a trip to Argentina to have sex with your mistress, that is a perfectly justified use of public funds. Helping those in need is socialism. Helping yourself to the contents of taxpayer wallets in order to fly to another hemisphere to indulge in illicit sex while pretending you are in a "Governor's Conference" is good, old fashioned conservatism.

Mark Sanford is not an isolated example of Conservative hypocrisy. He is the rule. The belief that everyone in America can go to hell as long as you as an individual have everything, and can indulge your every whim, is commonplace among the "Conservative movement". Public needs and civic duties, service to others, is all just evil socialism. But taking armfuls of cash from the public coffers to jet around the world and leap into the warm bed of a starstruck groupie is Republican conservatism at its finest.

Next, Alan Keyes vice Presidential running mate Wiley Drake publically prays for the death of President Obama. In reference to Doctor Tiller, Drake claims that God has answered his prayers for the death of Doctor Tiller and he hopes the President is next.

Then to show they are equally irresponsible and also praying for death, the republicans in the house and Senate join in. Minority leader John Boehner screeches, "President Obama is importing terrorists into the United States!!" Many other republicans join in agreement.

The point of stirring up this kind of hysteria is to create a climate of hatred and violence which will lead to more politically motivated killings.

This is the sewer that Conservatives have sunk to. They have over the last 8 years destroyed our economy, wiped out Millions of jobs, killed thousands senselessly in Iraq, and allowed 3000 to die on 9/11. They have no ideas for governing the country, in fact they never did. The only thing left is to pray that some sort of monstrous "god" will kill our President and return the republicans to power in the next election.

I thank God, the true God of love and compassion, that our President is being protected by the best security ever devised by man, and despite their racist hatred and prayers to a false god of hate to kill him, our President will live to a ripe old age, untouched by their sickening, murderous bile.

Grim Reaper: Rev. Wiley Drake extends growing death wish list to include President ObamaJune 8, 2009

It seems the Rev. Wiley Drake, a well-known media hound, has recently been lurking on Fox News Radio, adding more than just AU Executive Director Barry W. Lynn & Co. to his death wish list.

The Rev. Wiley Drake is on the warpath again — and this time, he has really gone too far.

As you may recall, Drake is the pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif. He urged supporters to offer “imprecatory prayers” (curses) against Americans United and specific staff members in August 2007.

It seems Drake, a well-known media hound, has recently been lurking on Fox News Radio, adding more than just AU Executive Director Barry W. Lynn & Co. to his death wish list.

Before appearing on Alan Colmes’ radio show June 2, Drake had issued a statement that his imprecatory prayers for the death of slain Kansas Dr. George Tiller had been answered. He said that he “absolutely” believed that God wanted Dr. Tiller dead.

But Drake announced on Fox News Radio something that even Colmes could not wrap his head around. Apparently, in addition to AU’s Lynn and Dr. Tiller, Drake has been praying for the death of – wait for it –President Barack Obama!

“So you’re praying for the death of the president of the United States?” host Colmes asked in disbelief.

“Yes,” Drake responded.

Drake said he didn’t fear that these statements would maybe place him on a Secret Service or FBI watch list.

“I think it’s appropriate to pray the Word of God,” Drake said. “I’m not saying anything. What I am doing is repeating what God is saying, and if that puts me on somebody’s list, then I’ll just have to be on their list.”

Later, still stunned, Colmes restated the question, “You would like the president of the United States to die?”

Answered Drake, “If he does not turn to God and does not turn his life around, I am asking God to enforce imprecatory prayers that are throughout the Scripture that would cause him death, that’s correct.”

It was one thing (though still wrong) for Drake to lash out Americans United back in 2007. After all, he was angry that AU reported his church to the IRS for partisan electioneering. We alleged that Drake violated the law by using church resources to endorse Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

But it’s a completely different story to wish for the death of the president of the United States. It’s just plain evil, and it serves as another example of the fanatical thinking of some members of the Religious Right.

“This whole concept that we’re always to pray little, nice, soft, fluffy prayers – that we’re not to pray imprecatory prayer – has been something that just, in all honesty, that Southern Baptists have lost, and we need to regain imprecatory prayer,” Drake said.

“It is in the Bible,” Drake continued, “and we are proud to say as Southern Baptists that we believe the Book. You’ve got to believe the whole Book, brother, or you don’t believe any of it.”

But it’s important to note that while Drake’s statements are scary and outrageous, not all Southern Baptists agree with him.

The Rev. Dwight McKissic, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, personally denounced Drake’s comments and said he would ask Southern Baptist Convention President Johnny Hunt to do the same.

“They need to be repudiated by Southern Baptist leaders,” said McKissic, former president of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention pastors’ conference and speaker at the group’s evangelism conference.

McKissic said Drake’s views “are in the same ballpark” as Rush Limbaugh saying he hopes that President Obama’s administration will fail.

“Southern Baptists,” he said, “don’t need to line up with the Rush Limbaughs and Wiley Drakes in attacking Barack Obama.”

Mind you, I came in after the conference had already started.

Also, this is not verbatim. I have done some paraphrasing but I still think it's pretty accurate.

David Plouffe was introduced at 1:12 p.m. by Mitch Stewart.

David Plouffe thanked everyone for working for Obama to help him get 365 electoral votes. Although we accomplished so much in Nov., this cleared the way for the opportunity to make change. In essence, it was just the first step. We worked very hard for the opportunity to have real healthcare reform for businesses and families that are being crushed by healthcare costs. The President ran on reform to healthcare and education. It had been talked about for so long but nothing had been done. So, now is the time.

David Plouffe went on to say that the President is defying the cynics, skeptics, and critics but this change is not going to happen in D.C. alone. It will come from other parts of the country to Washington. We will be asked to spend precious time that many of us have little to spare, but we need to implement this into our lives where we will be calling of lists, and knocking on doors.

We need to speak with our family members and colleagues. Nothing is more powerful than human beings talking to other human beings. We need to be passionate about why healthcare reform is so important. So, we need to take ownership of this. (House parties on June 6, service on June 27). If the country is demanding healthcare reform, we’ll get it done and Washington will not have any option but to follow us.

We need to get costs under control and make sure everyone can have affordable healthcare coverage. As we head into the summer, we all can’t focus on just relaxing. We will have to roll up our sleeves and go out there and make healthcare happen. There is huge interest in this. This is not some distant Washington debate. Most people have health insurance but they know they are paying more for themselves and so are their employers. It affects everyone.

So, spread your net wide. This shouldn’t be a lonely affair. You can lead it in your community. If we all work together, we can make the promise of the election a reality.

President Obama says hello, Mitch…calling from Air Force One line, I think. Mitch tells President, you are talking to the President.

President: It is great to talk to everybody. I want to start off by saying thanks to everyone who knocked on doors and registered voters. You had the confidence that we could reclaim the sensibility in Washington, that we could restore a sense of fairness and stability to our economy. We have to keep ourselves safe but be true to our ideals. That is the kind of change you voted for and that is why I am President, and I will never forget this.

Economic Recovery Act was successful because of us. Hundreds of thousands of pledges were signed by all of us. Americans from coast to coast were committed to making investments in energy and healthcare. We passed a budget plan and Economic Recovery Act. Now, we have the task of passing a healthcare reform act. Healthcare costs are crushing families.

Businesses and families are also getting hammered each and every day. Millions of Americans have lost their healthcare. The President has heard these stories via email and other forums from the citizens of the United States. The President cited an example of a lady who is fighting an insurance company who threatens to cut off her health insurance, and she’s already depleted her savings.

We need healthcare reform legislation that fixes the things that are broken. The status quo is unacceptable, and we need to get it done this year, or we won’t get it done. All of us need to educate our friends, relatives, and neighbors. We can protect choice of doctors, hospitals, healthcare providers, and ensure affordable healthcare. The President greatly appreciates all our support.

Mary Alice asks, as volunteers, what do you need us to do in order to grow this grassroots movement?

Answer by PBO: We need you to stay involved. The election only gave us an opportunity for change. We need to remobilize, reach out to friends and neighbors in support of our agenda. On 6/6, host a kickoff event to help launch healthcare reform. We need to refute arguments as to why we can’t drive down costs. The most important thing is to mobilize people in local communities block by block, neighbor by neighbor to make sure everyone understands. When that happens, Congressmen will take notice. Some are in districts or in states where right now politicians are resistant. We need to mobilize and telll them it’s not acceptable to preserve the status quo. Question: My son has graduated from college this past winter, and he is burdened with college loans and cannot afford healthcare. What will you make available to young people like my son?

PBO: I have personal experiences and know how tough it is. We want to make higher education more affordable by increasing PEL grants. This year, the Administration will implement an income-based repayment loan and are dedicated also to simplifying the student loan application. We need to eliminate middle men in the current student loan programs who get fees off the top. As to the issue around healthcare for these young people, we must ensure young people can stay on their parents' health insurance plan up to age 25.

Question: In a state as conservative as AL, what is the most important goal that can be accomplished ?

PBO: Keep organizing and talking to people, especially young people (who historically haven’t voted as much.) What I think the American citizens want, even in the most conservative communities, is action. It’s not a red or blue state thing. It is an American recognition that Washington needs to get off the dime. Inaction on healthcare leads to costs everywhere, including AL. If we want to cut our deficits, and a lot of conservative communities are concerned about all the debt we are building up, the most important thing we can do to close our budget gap is to rein in healthcare costs. Change comes from the bottom up, when people in their communities are out there talking, persuading, presenting facts, supplying information. Grassroots work makes a difference primarily because people trust their friends, neighbors, relatives, coworkers as opposed to talking heads on tv. So, having the tone of reasonably presenting the case of why change is needed, that will work everywhere. That is why I was successful, and that’s why we will keep on being successful.

The President thanks us all for a great job and then hangs up.

I am amazed at how desperate the far right media has become the very thing they claim the left media was. Now they refuse to recognize the huge amount of drug use that is happening in America. It's like they want to take a blind eye on crime to further a political Agenda. They refuse to see the drug use done by Americans. They want to pretend it isn't happening. They are saying it's un American to recognize the harm buying drugs causes. This is going to cause a conflict with their own followers since some of them have to in real life defend themselves from the very drug business that puts their republican followers into harm.

I can understand why Rush Limbaugh doesn't want to recognize illegal drug use, it's great way to cover up his own indiscretions. Sean Hannity is now completely gone insane. It's almost like they are trying to sweep the drug problem in America underneath the rug. I'm sorry but most of America know where the drug cartels are, and know they travel to America to sell their product.

To say that we as American aren't buying drugs is saying that there is no drugs in America. That would mean all the deaths didn't happen from overdoses, all the cops that died from drug dealers and those stoned on drugs didn't happen.

Why is Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity trying to make the Drug Dealers look good by saying it's UnAmerican to say what the problem really is? Why are they defending drug dealers?

Does Rick Perry have the Right to Terminate 23 million American Citizenships?

Does Rick Perry really have the right to even hint at seceding from the US without speaking to the constituents first. There have been a lot of people who have died for America from Texas, and I'm sure their families don't want somebody trying to use their citizenship as a bargaining chip for one persons political career.

As a matter of fact I am sure there are many in Texas who don't want anyone in the Texas Government messing with their US citizenship at all. Taking your personal beliefs and expecting your constituents to follow them is not the democratic way. The Texas governor is not in a seat of royalty. He is to follow the will of the people. He does not have the right to determine who is to be a US citizen.

Not to mention the Dollars and Federal Military bases. Maybe the Federal Government should talk to Texas about withdrawing all the United States faculties such as military bases, and the Airports that were built with all 50 state American Tax Money.

If Texas leadership doesn't want to be apart of the United States, isn't that about being UnAmerican. Does the Governor have the right to terminate the Citizenship of millions of Americans? Since he has been given this thought, will he allow people to leave Texas if they wish to remain US Citizens? Will he pay back the US Government for all their faculties, equipment, roads, and funding that has been spent in Texas?

U.S. voters don't blame Obama for economy

Asked who was responsible for the economic meltdown, 80 percent in the poll blamed banks, financial institutions and corporations. Some 70 percent also blamed consumers for taking on too much debt and the former Bush administration for lax regulation. Only 26 percent said the Obama administration was not doing enough to turn the situation around.
Two-thirds of respondents approve of the way Obama is handling the presidency, and 60 percent approve of the way he is handling the economy.
Sixty-four percent said were confident Obama's policies will improve the economy, down from 72 percent just before he took office in January.
Forty two percent said the country was now heading in the right direction, a five-year high. Late last year, when then-President George W. Bush was in its final months, as many as nine in 10 American said the country was heading in the wrong direction.

WASHINGTON – Ron Kirk, nominated as U.S. Trade Representative in the Obama administration, owes an estimated $10,000 in back taxes from earlier in the decade and has agreed to make his payments, the Senate Finance Committee said Monday.

The committee said the taxes arise from Kirk's handling of speaking fees that he donated to his alma mater, and for his deduction of the full cost of season tickets to the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball team.

The disclosure made the former Dallas mayor the latest in a string of top-level Obama administration appointees found to have underpaid their taxes, following Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Tom Daschle, who withdrew as candidate for Health and Human Services secretary. Nancy Killefer, Obama's pick for chief performance officer, also bowed out amid tax problems.

Economic Crisis requires Action, NOT Republican paralysis and impotence

On Thursday President Barack Obama released a blueprint for his budget which will confront the deepening recession our country is stuck in because of decades of Republican misrule. It included a deficit of 1.75 Trillion dollars. Is this a cause for concern? The answer is NO!

We have never in our nation's history been able to get out of a financial crisis without borrowing huge sums of cash. President Roosevelt had to run up deficits in order to save the country from the Great Depression. It was the paralysis of President Hoover who sat on his hands and CUT SPENDING after the Wall Street Crash that put Millions of Americans out of work and turned the recession into a Depression.

Just as in the turmoil before the Great Depression, Republicans then and now were cutting taxes for the Rich, encouraging businesses to cut jobs so they could save money, talking nonsense about the "free market" fixing itself, etc. All of the proposals of today's Republicans who oppose the President are the same as those made by Hoover and his foolish advisors who wrecked the global financial system with greed and ignorance.

The problem with Roosevelt was he did not spend enough at first so the recovery took longer than it had to. We must not allow fools today who do not even bother to read history to attack the President and whine about the deficit. Yes we have to do deficit spending. Yes we will have a budget that will look ugly at first glance. But that is the only way to get Americans back to work, and back to buying the goods and services that keep the economy alive.

If you want to see another Great Depression, listen to Rush, Hannity, and the clones that mimic their stupidity. Embrace "Conservative Values". Cut taxes for the wealthy. Continue to see Millions lose their jobs and homes each month. Watch the entire world economy collapse and chaos ensue. Keep supporting the failed and deadly policies of the past, just like their mentor and spiritual guru, President Hoover.

Or do the hard work necessary to rebuild America by supporting President Obama. Follow his lead, which is based on an understanding of how to get out of crisis which has been proven to be correct by actual historical example. The great economist John Maynard Keynes said that the only way out of massive unemployment and recession was deficit spending, there is no other way. President Roosevelt listened to him, and it worked. Today, we also must choose what works, not the impotent and failed ideology of the party which has run us into this ditch with greed, deregulation, and neglect.

President Obama is not telling us what we want to hear. He is making the difficult choices that must be made if we are to become strong again. Let's support him in any way we can.

Today Congresswoman Hilda Solis was confirmed as Secretary of Labor by an 80-17 vote in the Senate. All of this in spite of the obstructionist tactics employed by Senate Republicans who receive enormous campaign contributions from union busting lobbying firms and corporations.

Hilda Solis has a proven track record of fighting for worker rights. She has marched in the streets in support of union members. As a Congresswoman she has worked on legislation improving working conditions and safety, as well as co-authoring the Employee Free Choice Act.

Thanks to President Barack Obama for choosing someone with this background and passion for justice to be the chief advocate for working men and women. All Americans can be proud of our new Madame Secretary, Hilda Solis.

I wanted my daughter to go to Washington

My daughter, who is in her junior year in college applied for the state intern program, to be in a congressman office. Unfortunately, Oklahoma is all republican on the congressional level. While I don't know for a fact if that had any bearing on the selection process, I have to wonder if that was a reason why she wasn't selected. And I know that being her father I'm biased, but she is an outstanding student, and she has studied abroad. She studied in the Middle East for a summer in Amman, which tells me she has more of an understanding of the middle east than most of Oklahoma's congressional representatives. We are a poor family, she has to pay her own way for these things.

What frustrates me is the possiblillity that she is being barred from a great learning experience because she isn't republican. I wish america was more about freedom of ideas than a bipartisan state that we have become. I am not a man of influence or wealth, so there is no way I can give her an edge in. It shouldn't have to be that way and I wish it wasn't. Nicole would be a great person to be the leader of the future we need.

But I am sure that of the 4 people selected to be in this program, probably deserved it. So I bear them no ill will, but the level of bipartisanship in this country sometimes makes me wonder.

Republican Sessions praises Taliban "insurgency" !?!?

I am glad "Senator" Sessions was being so honest. The propagandists such as Rush and Hannity are taking a slightly less idiotic line saying they are trying to "restore true conservatism", "W Bush was not a conservative", and "Republicans have had it with being bullied by W Bush".
     But Sessions is providing Democrats with real ammunition. By identifying his own tactics with those of nihilistic, torture-loving, drug-dealing, women-hating, religious fanatics, he is exposing the fact that Republican party leaders and the Taliban are truly soul mates.
     What I don't see for Sessions is the upside for him and the Republican Party. Insurgencies in Iraq and Afganistan are successfully slaughtering thousands of combatants and innocents alike, but they are not returning the Taliban to power gloriously as Sessions implies the Republicans will. Insurgencies are creating poverty, orphans, and hate. The lessening of violence in Iraq, the so-called "success of the surge" has come at the expense of the insurgents, not through their gains.
     The reality is that Republicans in power care only about power itself. They truly hope that Obama fails and the country sinks into depression, for then they imagine they will retake Congress and the White House. They truly hope for another September 11th attack, for then they can say "We told you so, Obama cannnot keep you safe, only those with the "toughness" to torture can!"
      It does not matter how many millions of lives would be destroyed by another Great Depression. They are not concerned with the loss of life from another terrorist attack. Those realities are what we Democrats are always left behind to deal with and mourn over. Power is an end in itself for the Republicans, whether it is Mitch McConnel, W Bush, Osama bin Sessions, or any of the other scum who have proposed this tactic of "insurgency".

Chairman - Paul Volcker. Upside - Solid. The best there is. Should have remained Fed Chair. Downside - a little long in the tooth. (This is not age discrimination. Technology has much to do with this recession.)

Staff Director and Chief Economist. Austan Goolsbee - Probably not helpful. Chicago Economist...and they basically sank us into this mess. At least he is at the staff level.

Members - William H. Donaldson, Chairman, SEC (2003-2005). Solid. Called for market reform a long, long time ago. Ran a great firm, DLJ.

Unlike undeveloped countries, we have established laws and a system that can deal with criminal behavior. We are signatories to international treaties - heck, we authored many of them.

The Attorney General needs to do the people's work: investigate and prosecute crimes of the last administration. We need to re-gain our standing in the world. (We also need to have our Constitutional rights re-established.)

The notion that some Congressional Commission will study and resolve these matters is ridiculous. All it will do is cost the taxpayers money -- money that is not stimulatory!

BOSTON (Reuters) – The wife of accused Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff pulled $15 million out of a brokerage account only days before her husband was arrested, Massachusetts' top securities regulator said on Wednesday.

Secretary of State William Galvin said Ruth Madoff withdrew $5.5 million on November 25 and $10 million on December 10 according to reports produced by Cohmad Securities, a firm co-owned by her husband.

These people need to be fitted for orange jumpsuits and start doing hard time on a chain gang!

In response to Gil Robinson's excellent post: These Republican Congressional "leaders" voted yes for every measure W Bush proposed, tax cuts for the rich financed with borrowed money, faith-based initiative money which went to right wing groups only, the Trillion dollar Iraq War which is still burning up 10 Billion dollars a month, and idiotic "Star Wars" missile defense systems to protect us from alien attacks, coupled with spending on the "next generation" of nuclear bombs to add to our arsenal of 20,000 nuclear warheads.
The total price tag for all of this garbage the Republicans voted for is 5 Trillion dollars. That is how much W Bush added to the National debt. When Clinton finished in Jan. 2001, the National debt was 6 Trillion. Now it is 11 Trillion. No President in history has wasted that much money.
It took over 200 years to accumulate 6 Trillion in debt. W Bush took only 8 to add 5 Trillion. The most devastating economic attack on America ever, all done by W and the Republicans.
This is what President Obama has to point out now that the Republicans have decided their only purpose is to try to destroy Obama and take down the economy along with him.

I am not happy with the stimulus plan

First when Bush and the house republicans had the stimulus package, they gave the money away with no strings attached. Obama part is spending it on this that will not stimulate the economy. Both sides have gotten wrong in my opinion.

I wouldn't give money to a drug addict and expect them to cure themselves. Why would I expect a companies leaders of a failing business know how to do any better with more money? Bad habits in each case will continue to happen.

What we need to do is invest on the working or new business models. IF we want more jobs and stimulate the economy, I suggest we give stimulus money to those companies that are succeding in these difficult times. Those companies that knew how to plan for the future. Instead of investing in companies that are failures by their own design, we should invest in those that are surviving on their own prudent practices.

We also need to set free those ideas that are locked up. Possibly come up where money is given to Universities and think tanks to make open source technology and patents on things such as Cars that are ran off of water. Better and cheaper solar and wind power.

Open source technology means technology that would have a patent that would be open for all to use. Many know this in the software world as basically freeware. But Benjamin Franklin opened up the patents on many of his inventions so the whole world could benefit, from his lighting rod to his stove.

For those that don't understand open source, think of it like this. If Apple allowed anyone to make and use the technology of the Ipod, what would happen? There would hundreds if not thousands of companies making Ipods. The ipods would be more variety, more technologically superior, cheaper and used in everything. This would stimulate jobs because of the all companies that would jump into this market. But apple won't do that, and an Ipod can't drive you to work.

But an Imagine a Car that can do 50 to 100 mpg. If the research was paid for, and the patents were open for anyone to use. Or it could be a car that ran on water, or solar panels system that powered your house during the day, and stored enough to power your house through the night.

If we spent the stimulus money an opening up technology, making it open source then we would be helping American businesses. We could offer grants to univiersities to help educate our children, if they contribute towards this open source collaboration.

But instead of investing in the whole of America, were buying new vehicles for thte government why I have to drive in my 11 year old car, and pay for the senators new ride. Not only that, but spend billions on Washington DC, while I watch my own house devalue before my eyes.

The only part of the stimulus package I like is rebuilding the infrastructure of the roads and bridges in America. Probably because that's the only part of the stimulus that benefits us all.

Stimulus MUST Be Timely, Targeted and Transparent

What Speaker Peolosi and Chair Frank sent (HR 1) to the Senate was shameful. They didn't make any of the hard decisions, prioritize. They took a wish list from their Democrat members - things that would have been attached to bills as earmarks in the current term. Then they added them up to a VERY BIG number, told the people that any time the government spends money it creates jobs and called it 'stimulus'.

Many of these items should be debated and refined as public policy. They have little or no stimulus effect - other than to appease key constituents. I have every expectation that Sens Reid, Dodd and others will follow the same path - in 3 days they already moved the House's $819 BILLION to over $890 BILLION!!

There is $54 Billion of spending on energy, $16 Billion on Science and Technology, $90 Billion for roads and waterways, $142 Billion for education, $25 Billion for healthcare, $102 Billion for unemployed workers, $91 Billion for state government plus $$$Billions in tax cuts. Some of these will translate into jobs, most will not.

Noticeably absent is anything directed at HOUSING (other than funds to rehab/modernize pathetic public housing -- a program which needs a MAJOR policy overhaul itself). Why? Because next week, we are going to be asked to foot the bill for $1 - 3 TRILLION in a new T.A.R.P. to be administered by Secy Treasury Tim Geithner (you know, the guy who didn't pay all of his taxes a few years ago).

Let's get this thing focused, passed and implemented!!

The "Stimulus" Package

Each dollar of the $825Billion should be used to 1) create jobs and/or 2) stabilize the housing market upon which Wall Street has leveraged and gambled investors' savings. Some of us want to retire some day.

If spending $825,000,000,000 results in 3 Million jobs, each job will cost $275,000. And every American household will be on the hook for $2,700 in additional debt. (Will the IRS allow us the same lattitude permitted Secy Treasury Geithner?)

Aggregating all these local "pet programs", purportedly "shovel ready" that are already awaiting funding simply to garner Congressional votes is an ignorant approach to simply spend money. Many are not tied to national security, energy or environmental initiatives and do not CREATE JOBS.

I believe that hope can be found in the person of our next President, Barack Obama. He lived for years in a very poor Muslim country, Indonesia, which at the time was descending into chaos, and is not going to be indifferent to suffering and a catalyst of violence like the Bush regime has been. The demonizing of Islam, calling it a violent religion, a religion of terror, etc. has been the message of the Republican Party and Bush's generals for the last 8 years. The attacks on Barack Obama, claiming that he is a "radical/terrorist/Muslim" show the party line of the Republicans and John McCain's campaign which was resoundingly rejected at the polls on November 4th.
      We will now have a President who understands that people of all faiths are human beings, that we all are brothers and sisters, whether we are black or white, straight or gay, Christian or Muslim, Israeli or Palestinian, and yes, even Democrat or Republican.
      The diplomatic team Barack has put together is formidable. Hillary Clinton is going to bring tremendous intellectual firepower to the position of Secretary of State. Susan Rice, another genius, will be our representative to the U.N. With these two women co-ordinating the efforts of the State Department and the U.N. we will have a real chance of bringing peace to many regions of the world. (Remember that the U.N. representative we have had for most of this period has been John Bolton, who has such a pathological hatred for the United Nations that he publicly stated he wished the U.N. building had been destroyed instead of the twin towers on Sept. 11th.)  We cannot help but improve things now that we are 'clearing out the trash' and sending legitimate diplomats to engage with the world.
        When you consider the Israeli/Palestinian conundrum, with it's incredible complexity and history going much farther back than even 1948 or 1917, perhaps to the emperor Nero destroying the Temple in Jerusalem, perhaps even to Exodus with the fateful sanctioning of land seizure and killing by the Lord himself, (or so we are told), it is easy to throw our hands up and believe there is no solution possible. But for the last 8 years we haven't even been trying to find one. A few of Dick Cheney's defense contractor friends have been getting rich, and are even now salivating over the money they will receive to replace the very expensive, state of the art munitions the IDF are consuming in Gaza as we speak. This has been what has passed for our 'diplomatic' efforts.
      I refuse to lose hope. Both the Israelis and the Palestinians are my brothers and sisters, and I have faith that my Brother, my President, Barack Obama, is going to do everything he can to try to fix this because he understands suffering and bloodshed are real and can not be ignored.

American Express gets approval to receive $3.39 billion as part of government's rescue program

NEW YORK (AP) -- American Express Co. said Tuesday it received preliminary approval to obtain $3.39 billion in capital as part of the government's $700 billion bank investment program.

Primarily a credit card lender, American Express changed its structure to become a bank holding company last month. The change in status allows American Express to tap a wide array of government funding and lending programs, including the bank investment program.

The government program calls for the U.S. Treasury Department to receive preferred stock and warrants to purchase common stock in return for the investment. The preferred stock carries an interest rate of 5 percent per year for the first five years. It then increases to 9 percent after five years if the preferred shares are not redeemed.

What's the deal here? I pay my Amex bill on time and they charge participating vendors/merchants 3x the service fee charged by their competitors...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska officials are investigating racist jokes about President-elect Barack Obama that have been circulating on state government e-mail accounts.

One of the five e-mails obtained by The Associated Press asks about the outcome of the Democrat's victory after all the time and money invested and concludes: "Another black family living in government housing!"

Three of the racist messages were confirmed by the state's information technology division after an electronic search of the government's e-mail system, Administration Commissioner Annette Kreitzer said Wednesday.

Kreitzer said she alerted the office of Gov. Sarah Palin about the e-mails.

Bill McAllister, Palin's spokesman, said in an e-mail that the matter concerned individual actions taken by a handful of state employees among thousands.

"My understanding is that the Department of Administration is following up on this with the individuals who took action to forward the offensive e-mails," he said. "This is, of course, a confidential personnel and disciplinary matter that has nothing to do with the governor's office."

The Rev. Alonzo Patterson, state chairman of the Alaska Black Leadership Conference, encouraged Palin to address the e-mails.

"They're doing that in a state setting," he said. "She should condemn it."

One e-mail, with the subject line of "Night Befo Crizzmus," was forwarded dozens of times, Kreitzer said.

Rev Joseph Lowery To Deliver Benediction Jan 20th

Reverend Joseph Lowery began his work with civil rights in the early 1950s in Mobile, Alabama, where he headed the Alabama Civic Affairs Association, an organization devoted to the desegregation of buses and public places. During this time, the state of Alabama sued Lowery, along with several other prominent ministers, on charges of libel, seizing his property. The Supreme Court sided with the ministers, and Lowery's seized property was returned.

In 1957, Lowery and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), and Lowery was named vice president. In 1965, he was named chairman of the delegation to take demands of the Selma to Montgomery March to Alabama's governor at the time, George Wallace.

Lowery is a co-founder and former president of the Black Leadership Forum, a consortium of black advocacy groups. The Forum began protesting apartheid in South Africa in the mid-1970s and continued until the election of Nelson Mandela. In 1979, during a rash of disappearances of Atlanta's African American youth, Lowery provided a calm voice to a frightened community.

After becoming president of the SCLC in February of 1977, Lowery negotiated covenants with major corporations for employment advances, opportunities and business contracts with minority companies. He has led peace delegations to the Middle East and Central America.

In addition to serving as pastor to several churches over the years, Lowery's efforts to combat injustice and promote equal opportunities has led to the extension of provisions to the Voting Rights Act to 2007, the desegregation of public accommodations in Nashville, Tennessee and the hiring of Birmningham, Alabama's first black police officers.

Dr. Lowery is 'the real deal'.

My concerns are that the military families and veterans that have worked so hard, may not be able to participate in the inauguration that they made possible! It upsets me that I have NOT heard back from Brian Bilbray, Senator Feinstein or any other representatives that I have contacted regarding tickets. We have made various request for volunteer opportunities, discounted and free tickets to balls and events, and we are still in a wait and see pattern. It is very costly and bureaucratic, and I fear that the group may not be able to attended this most historic event, that again they made possible. As we wait for information, housing and airfare become more difficult and out of reach. But, I am hopeful that we will find sponsors to sponsor our local military families and veterans to the inauguration. We currently are in need of air miles and lodging sponsors. We currently have a proposal into the Earl Stafford Foundation for inaugural travel assistance for our 32 member OC (Orange County) and San Diego Military and Veterans for Obama, a local group of Blue Star Military Families and Veterans for Obama. Which I serve as lead organizer for, and founded this summer.
We are extremely excited about attending the Obama Inaugural after traveling to 37 states and Puerto Rico, hosting over 180 events and raising over $25,000 collectedly for the campaign and for philanthropic organizations. The group finished the campaign in Florida, where we worked with Obama organizers deliver all 27 electoral college votes for Obama!
I am also very upset that local party organizers are not making inaugural parties affordable to students, seniors, the disabled or military families and veterans! It is very sad to see that even theSan Diego County Democratic Inaugural Party is out of reach for most at $85/$100 per ticket! This is NOT the Obama way! We are a movement of inclusion, not exclusion based on socioeconomic status. I personally have helped get plane tickets and organized travel for over 850 students, veterans, military family members, unemployed folks and those who could not afford to be a part of this movement, but wanted to volunteer. It is the roll of us as organizers to be mindful of the current economic conditions and plan events accordingly. We have to work on getting underwriters and sponsors for underrepresented groups.

As a 33 year old recent graduate school graduate, I understand all to well about the struggles of trying to find a job in this economy and trying to make ends meat. And this campaign trail, has given me much to be thankful for and to work toward. As a young black woman, I often was brought to tears thinking of my mother (who died of pancreatic cancer in 2005) would be saying or the shear enjoy of my grandparents to see this day come to come to pass, when not color but charisma, brilliance, political savvy and philanthropy motivated the Nation to elect the 44th President of the United States of America! And I feel that same way in being elected delegate in my congressional district where blacks make up only about 2% of the population! That is was I felt an obligation to fundraise and take San Diego's Finest with me!
My proudest moment in this campaign was being elected the National Delegate from the 50th Congressional District to the Democratic National Convention and taking a Military Families and Veterans Delegation of 26 with me! The best event of the whole week was working with the group to packing boxes for our troops at Camp Pendleton with Michelle Obama, her daughters, her mother and her brothers! I cried when we (Benjamin Bates, my fiance, managed the Delegation while I was on the floor of the Convention) were able to get all the families and their extended families into the Invesco Field for the ending ceremonies! This is what the Obama campaign and movement is all about philanthropy and service.
The group is focusing our attention on on the California Democratic Party's Assembly District Delegates races, where we are running our Blue Stars and Veterans in the their AD's to represent military families and veterans issues on the state level. We are working to establish military family members and veterans as a strong lobby with the CDP thru the Veterans Caucus and appointments to various committees with in the CDP. Our group has now found a home in the La Jolla Democratic Club. We are very excited to be joining forces with such an active and well established Democratic Club. The new president, Dr. Michael McQuarry has been a great advocate of our work and is helping us develop Democratic Military and Veterans outreach and assist us with our philanthropic work. Here in San Diego we are working with philanthropic organizations by volunteering, hosting events or raising money.
I am very interested in changing Democrats and Progressives feelings and views on the military and veterans. I believe we have much to do on the local level to constituency build among military families and veterans. San Diego County is a military county, and we must work with them, advocate for them and provide them a seat at the policy table. I see this is my new role in the movement. The military families and veterans are our pride and enjoy, and are what makes San Diego "America's Finest City." But thru out the nation it is NOT only our duty to work to end the war, but to support the military families and veterans that were innocently caught up in this conflict also!!! For to long Democrats have been sleeping at the wheel on outreaching to military families, troops and veterans. They overwhelming supported Obama this is our opportunity. It will not be easy because we have been MIA so long, and letting Republicans set the agenda. If you want a real rewarding challenge join us in helping and working with our troops, military families and veterans! Being Democrat, progressive or liberal does NOT mean anti-military, military families or veterans!!! Pro-Obama, Pro-Military!!!!!

The Rev. Joseph Lowery helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King in 1957 and led the organization for 20 years.

Lowery played a major role in many of the pivotal civil rights struggles of the 1950s and ‘60s and has remained active.

In a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court, Lowery was among four ministers sued by Alabama officials for $3 million in the early 1950s. Lowery’s property was seized, but he was vindicated when the court ruled for the ministers in the landmark 1964 libel case, Sullivan v. New York Times, Abernathy, Lowery, Shuttlesworth, and Seay.

In 1965, King named Lowery to deliver the demands of a planned Selma-to-Montgomery march for voting rights to then-Alabama Governor George Wallace. Police tear-gassed and clubbed the peaceful marchers at Edmund Pettus Bridge on “Bloody Sunday”. Congress was led to enact the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Lowery recalled the 1965 march when he testified before a U.S. Senate committee following the disputed 2000 presidential election.

“Dr. King could not have anticipated that once we secured the ballot in 1965, that here in 2001, we would be demanding that our government assure us that our votes are fairly and accurately counted,” Lowery told the senators. “We must understand that failure to provide those resources is to blaspheme our devotion to rights guaranteed in the Constitution of these United States.”

As president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference from 1977 to 1997, Lowery protested apartheid policies in South Africa and cochaired the 1990 Nelson Mandela visit to Atlanta following Mandela’s release from prison. He led a peace delegation to the Middle East and met with the president of Lebanon and Yasser Arafat to seek justice in the Middle East by nonviolent means. Lowery also led protests and was arrested twice in a campaign against the dumping of toxic waste in Warren County, N.C.

Lowery also cofounded the Black Leadership Forum, a consortium of national black advocacy organizations, and served as third president following Vernon Jordan and Benjamin Hooks.

After retiring from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in January 1998, Lowery helped African American farmers secure a federal court decree valued at $2 billion against the Department of Agriculture for discrimination.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- President-elect Barack Obama has selected former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack to become his agriculture secretary, according to Democratic officials familiar with the selection process.

Obama will announce the nomination of Vilsack on Wednesday, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the selection before the announcement. Obama also plans to announce his nomination of Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar as interior secretary at the same news conference, other Democratic officials said.

Vilsack will be the fourth former opponent of Obama in the campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination to join his new administration. Others include Vice President-elect Joe Biden, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has been tapped for secretary of state, and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, selected to head the Commerce Department.

Vilsack announced his presidential candidacy in late 2006, positioning himself as a Washington outsider with heartland appeal, but he dropped out before the primaries because of an inability to raise money. He endorsed Clinton and campaigned actively for her in the long primary campaign against Obama. After Obama defeated Clinton, Vilsack endorsed him.

First elected governor in 1998, Vilsack, 58, carved out a reputation as a political centrist. He balanced Iowa's budget and resisted raising taxes, but he was willing to spend money on such priorities as education and health. He argued that pushing alternative energy sources was key to bolstering rural sections of the nation that are struggling economically and with vanishing populations.

Salazar will head a department that oversees oil and gas drilling on public lands and manages the nation's parks and wildlife refuges. Salazar is expected to try to balance the protection of natural resources while tapping the nation's energy potential - an approach Obama has said he wants.

Salazar co-sponsored a bill in Congress to create a new land conservation system under the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management for permanently protecting 26 million acres of national monuments, wilderness areas and wild and scenic rivers. The legislation died during the lame-duck session of Congress after the November election.

The Colorado senator opposed drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and objected to the Bush administration's efforts to lease Western lands for oil shale development. It will be up to the Obama administration whether to go ahead with leasing.

If Salazar is confirmed as interior secretary, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, a Democrat, will select a replacement to fill the last two years of his Senate term. Before being elected to the Senate in 2004, Salazar was Colorado's attorney general. He also headed Colorado's Natural Resources Department from 1990 through 1994.

Merrill's Thain seeking 2008 bonus of $10 million

(Reuters) – Merrill Lynch & Co Chief Executive John Thain has suggested to directors that he get a 2008 bonus of as much as $10 million, but the battered company's compensation committee is resisting his request, the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the situation.

The compensation committee has not reached a decision, but is leaning toward denying Thain and other senior executives bonuses for this year, the people told the paper.

Merrill was arguably saved from extinction when it agreed to merge on September 15, an hour before Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc filed for bankruptcy. The fear was that Merrill could be next if shareholders and trading partners fled, as many did at Lehman and the former Bear Stearns Cos.

Thain has said he deserves a bonus because he helped avert what could have been a much larger crisis at the firm, people familiar with his thinking told the WSJ.

Thain, who became Merrill's chief executive after losses in mortgage-related investments led to the October 2007 ouster of Stanley O'Neal, has also run NYSE Euronext, after a long career at Goldman.

Metro Expands Hours for Inauguration, Expects Record Rail and Bus Ridership

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced today that it will run rush hour service for 15 consecutive hours from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Inauguration Day Jan. 20, but the authority will charge riders off-peak holiday fares, the Post's Lena Sun reports. Metro will be open from 4 a.m. Jan. 20 until 2 a.m. Jan. 21, to handle commuters after the inaugural balls, General Manager John B. Catoe Jr. announced at a board meeting. Metro is expecting to move 1.6 million people on rail and bus on Inauguration Day, which would double the previous high of 854,638 (rail only) on July 11. The authority will issue 35,000 SmarTrip commemorative cards with a picture of Barack Obama, which can be purchased in early January for $10 apiece on a special Web site that will be set up Friday and can be found by going to www.wmata.com. Commuters can then add value to the cards, which will come with no value, at the stations, and move quickly through the fare gates.

In addition to the commemorative Smart cards, riders will also be able to buy commemorative One-Day rail passes ($7.80 each) that will allow unlimited daily rides (pictured at right). The paper farecards are expected to be in vending machines by Christmas, officials said, and the agency will stock between 3 to 5 million of these special passes.

Catoe said people trying to get into train stations after the parade could face delays of "up to a couple hours" at the end of the day. Metro is encouraging people to spread out their trips after the events are over by visiting downtown museums or grabbing something to eat.

Metro's Archives Station and the Mall entrance of the Smithsonian Station will be closed on Jan. 20. Public restrooms also will be closed, but portable units will be set up outside. Parking at Metro stations will be free for automobiles on Jan. 20, but buses must pay. The authority expects all 60,000 parking spaces to be used that day.

Metro will offer regular weekend service on Jan. 17 and 18, Catoe said, and holiday service on Jan. 19, which is Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.

Catoe said he will ask transit authorities in Maryland and Virginia to add bus-only lanes on highways into the District on Jan. 20 to move crowds more quickly.

Notes: Newseum, which fronts the inaugural parade route along Pennsylvania Ave. NW, will also expand its hours on Jan. 20, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., with inauguration-themed exhibits.

We need aggressive Transparency in Government

I understand right now that President - Elect Obama is not in office, we need to see some ground work for Transparency into government. I would also like to see a move that would investigate and examine against corruption in washington, which in my humble opinion, transparency would help us see.

A lot of things are hidden in the name of National Security and I believe they are falsely classified as a means to hide illegal activity. As much as I would love to have job of being in charge and exposing all the corruption, coverups and mismanagement in our federal government, I know I do not have the surgical knowledge needed to do this quickly and efficiently. But I am sure there many out there that do, and that there are many people like me that would enjoy the job of bringing to light many if not all government activities.

One major step towards transparency, is to eliminate corrections to federal records. Many probably do not know this, but when our Representatives speak on the floor they are allowed to go in afterwards and change the Federal Record. In other words change what is recorded what they said. If they want to say this is what I meant, then they can add an amendment after the context of their speech. Showing us what they meant to say. But I and I'm sure you too, what to know what they actually said.

Second we need and easily searchable way to look at each and every bill the government has voted on. We need to see each and every ruling done by the supreme court in the same manner, and everything the executive office signs off on.

Thirdly, no government agency, should have the right to hide everything indefinitely. I think the most the government should be to keep something top secret is 20 years. FISA would be admended to allow this. By doing this we are keeping the US Goverment accountable for it's actions. We do not need to show the world our plans on how to build a nuclear weapon, but we need to show when the decesions was made and by whom to make them.

Anything that would need top secret clearance longer than that would need to be approved by a committee, that is made up of one person from the executive office, one from the judiciary, and at least 20 from the house, 10 reps and 10 senate. They would meat once every year and vote on each item that requires to maintain top secret clearance that is already 20 years or older in that status. This would require the government to report each item that requires top secret. If it isn't reported to this committee than it is offically not a secret and therefore open for public review.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Aides to a bipartisan group of auto-state senators say they have reached a compromise to speed emergency loans to Detroit's Big Three car makers.

Republicans and Democrats plan to present the proposal at a mid-afternoon news conference Thursday. But it was not immediately clear whether the compromise plan could draw enough support to get through a reluctant Senate.

It temporarily would divert to troubled automakers money from a program that currently finances the development of fuel-efficient vehicles. The aim would be to cover their immediate expenses.

Did anybody else hear these dopes testify that they have made significant changes to bring their current (and by implication, legacy) costs in line with those of their off-shore competitors?

Here's a little news flash form April 5, 2008:

"Just hours after threatening to strike at one or more GM plants, the UAW and the General have agreed on two-tier wages for certain job types. The move to clarify which jobs were "non-core" at the national level came as local UAWs were threatening to strike because they felt GM was asking for too many lower-paid positions at their plants. The more regimented deal identifies 16,000 positions that will soon be paid $14 per hour, which will save GM up to a half-billion dollars per year. It will take years to fill all of those positions because GM has to entice existing workers to retire before they can be replaced."

They need to do everything they can before begging for taxpayer money!

I respectfully disagree with those recommending Sen Clinton be considered for Attorney General - we need someone with superior ethics, especially after Roberto Gonzales, John Ashcroft, Michael Mukasey.

"When the Watergate probe concluded, Zeifman said, he fired Clinton from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation. She was one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman's 17-year career, Calabrese pointed out.

Zeifman told the columnist he fired Clinton because she was a liar.

"She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer," Zeifman said. "She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality."

Bringing peace to Northern Ireland?

Mrs Clinton has made Northern Ireland key to her claims of having extensive foreign policy experience, which helped her defeat Barack Obama in Ohio and Texas on Tuesday after she presented herself as being ready to tackle foreign policy crises at 3am.

"I helped to bring peace to Northern Ireland," (Senator Hillary Clinton) told CNN on Wednesday. But negotiators from the parties that helped broker the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 told The Daily Telegraph that her role was peripheral and that she played no part in the gruelling political talks over the years.

Hillary Clinton had no direct role in bringing peace to Northern Ireland and is a "wee bit silly" for exaggerating the part she played, according to Lord Trimble of Lisnagarvey, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and former First Minister of the province.

"I don’t know there was much she did apart from accompanying Bill [Clinton] going around," he said. "She visited when things were happening, saw what was going on, she can certainly say it was part of her experience. I don’t want to rain on the thing for her but being a cheerleader for something is slightly different from being a principal player."

Lord Trimble shared the Nobel Peace Prize with John Hume, leader of the nationalist Social Democratic and Labour Party, in 1998. Conall McDevitt, an SDLP negotiator and aide to Mr Hume during the talks, said: "There would have been no contact with her either in person or on the phone. I was with Hume regularly during calls in the months leading up to the Good Friday Agreement when he was taking calls from the White House and they were invariably coming from the president."

Central to Mrs Clinton’s claim of an important Northern Ireland role is a meeting she attended in Belfast in with a group of women from cross-community groups. "I actually went to Northern Ireland more than my husband did," she said in Nashua, New Hampshire on January 6th.

"I remember a meeting that I pulled together in Belfast, in the town hall there, bringing together for the first time Catholics and Protestants from both traditions, having them sitting a room where they had never been before with each other because they don’t go to school together, they don’t live together and it was only in large measure because I really asked them to come that they were there.

WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats on the Intelligence and Judiciary Committees last week told the White House to preserve all records produced by the Bush administration and expressed "particular concerns" whether Vice President Dick Cheney's office will comply with the law.

"We believe it is vital the presidential and vice presidential documents belonging to the American people be preserved, including those related to key national security decisions in which the (office of the vice president) played an important role," the senators wrote in the Nov. 7 letter to White House lawyer Fred Fielding. The letter was obtained by The Associated Press.
