I thought that since there are more people in this group than just me that I would go ahead and introduce myself a little more. I would love to learn more about you all and your motivations for joining this group, so please write a little intro for yoursef.
A little history..
My dad retired from the Air Force in 2001 after spending 21 years enlisted. We've lives in Texas, two German states, and now Virginia. I spent time in the German school system until we moved back state side.
I was married to my husband in august 2006, however we had been courting for a few years. We've been through one deployment and several "work ups". I didnt realize how different Navy life would be from the Air Force.
Recently there have been a lot of talks about IA's (Individual Augmentee) going around my husbands command here in VA beach. Incase you arent familiar, the basic premise is to send sailors over to the middle east in hopes to relieve some of the soldiers that have served several tours already. I have no quarral with the principle, however, my husband is an Air Craft Mechanic and an Instructor, not a soldier. I sympathize with the soldiers over there now, but I see no good coming out of sending sailors to be soldiers. So far my husband has been mentioned on 2 lists for an IA. Luckily he has yet to be picked and I am praying our luck continues. These are the biggest reason why I support Senator Obama. I fear everyday that my husband will come home and tell me he is leaving. Ive even heard of a case where a sailor was given 24 hours to prepare to deploy!! I have never agreed with our involvement in that area of the world and I feel that staying there would be disastrous.
I had a coworker who lost her fiance in Iraq. He came home on leave for 2 weeks in May. I met him then, a very friendly and attractive 23 year old. The original plan was to elope during those two weeks and plan for a bigger wedding when he returned in August. Unfortunately he died shortly after returning to Iraq. While he was in the Army, he was working construction on bulidng a new baracks when he was hit with some sort of explosive.If you would like any more information on this individual you can google corporal Andy D Anderson of Falls Church VA.
Thinking of this just breaks my heart because it is more proof that this isnt a war that can not be won.
Anyway I hope you've enjoyed my brief history and why I support Obamas plan to withdraw troops. I just want to keep my family and friends safe.
