I had no idea it was 1973 all over again!
Has it not been passed into US law that a woman has the right to choose? When Mills lamented in 1869 about the subjection of women, little did I think that to-date society would still act in the same way. It gives me great pain to see that our men are actually taking us back to 1800s. What is the difference with the laws then and now? Did women not win rightfully, and did US Congress not recognize a woman’s right to choose after it came down from the highest court in the land? And why are we debating abortion in the first place? What a shame! That a Democratically controlled Congress should even consider putting into law, the legal subjection of women in this 21st century. What the House did on Saturday, and what I now hear that some members of the Senate are proposing against women’s heath is appalling, if not downright abomination! They wish to put into law that which will put women down, will women 10 steps back, and that which Mills called “… a legal subjection of women…” with total disregard of women’s input as if we don’t even exist! I hear these Senators and Representatives say that women will have to purchase a separate healthcare insurance for abortion! This is ridiculous! And as Mills lamented then, and I second him today, the act of legally stopping a woman from choosing for herself is a major hindrance to human development and progress. By allowing this so called Stupak Amendment, the society will have admitted to some unmentioned laws… ‘That some animals are more equal than others, admitting power and privilege on the one side’, and subjecting the other side to disability and incapacity. This is plainly wrong. Needless to mention, that the same women that you now trample on, are the same ones that brought you to power and prominence. How could you allow the Republican Party to manipulate your brains? Can’t you just be normal representatives who act consciously and for once putting your constituents first before politics?
I hear that in Congress it’s about arm-twisting and deal-cutting, but in my view, some deals are better left uncut. You my dear men, are not going to cut deals at the expense of women’s health. This is a battle that I am afraid you are going to lose. What was the Hyde Amendment all about then? Why is it that every time somebody has to loose in this society it has to be a woman? Do we not live in a democracy? Are both sees not entitled to the same human rights? Health rights?
It's not just interns, people. Muslims like myself plan to infiltrate every branch of the government through lawful means. We wish to be--brace yourselves--politically active. Rep. Paul Broun (GA) stated the following regarding CAIR (Council on Islamic-American Relations): "If an organization that is connected to or supports terrorists is running influence operations or planting spies in key national security-related congressional offices, I think this needs to be made known."
Funny that no one really cares that Muslims are denigrated in this manner. Should Muslims just accept the fact they are not only illegally wiretapped, but also subject to hate speech in Congress?
Let me speak on behalf of the 99.9% of all Muslims world-wide, when I say
Our all new Ojamas for 2009-2010 are ready for pre-ordering! If you tried our original Ojamas, you'll be thrilled with the softer, luxurious cotton flannel fabric and improved sizing and fit for ladies in our new design. Throughout the year, we surveyed our customers and the two areas which stood out most were fabric and fit. You told us you wanted softer cotton flannel and that you wanted a better fitting garment for ladies, and that's exactly what we're delivering this year. An overwhelming majority of customers who liked the orginal design with the campaign logo said they wanted to see something more fun with our new President's face, and we've captured that in our new design as well.
While reflecting on the tragic events of September 11, 2001, I couldn't help but miss the "We're All Americans" spirit. There's a noticeable void, where once was a sense of unity and pride. Hence, I have made a a cognizant decision to rethink my support for various organizations, causes and charities.
I have sent notice, to many charities, of my decision to discontinue any further support. If people elect to act like "animals", then that's exactly how I'll view and treat them. After some forty years of monthly support for such organizations as the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the American Red Cross, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and various local churches and charities, (just to mention a few that I've been extremely loyal to) each has been notified of my decision and all automatic monthly contributions have been discontinued immediately.
When we can once again come together as "Americans", as a respectful society, then and only then will I reconsider my position.
Regretfully,
Peter
I say, Go for it Barack! For those Americans who do not want their children to hear the President's address - should turn off their tvs at the time of the address. For the rest of us - the address goes on. How petty have the conservatives become? Is this the same America I longed for just a few years ago? What is so wrong with our President giving a little stratight talk to our upcoming/ future leaders? I am so disappointed at the right-wing of the Republican Party. Where are the Republican Congressional leaders anyway? Why are they leeting a few angry people take their Party under siege? I am equally disappointed at the "so-called bluedog Democrats" What is the point of calling them Democrats if they cant even defend the Party's principles? Did we campaign for them for nothing? I would them to know that we too are Americans, even though we don't go out and yell in townhalls.
I was very pleased at the way Sen. Warner (VA) handled a few rude people at his healthcare town hall yesterday. It was very clear that these "townhall crazies" choose not to follow the truth about healthcare - that they choose to follow the lies told by those right-wing extremists who have hijacked the Republican Party. It's people like these that indoctrinate the minds of young people with hate! Why are they so full of hate? Elections have consequences, and this time the Republicans lost - accepting this is the essence of our democracy.
So Mr. President, go ahead with your planned education talk - do not blink/ burge! For single parents like me and many others are counting on American leaders like you to be role models and the guiding light to our youngstars! We have your back Sir.
May the Almighty God bless you and our beautiful country.

!Hi Old Gang,
We over at the OFA blog miss you guys like crazy!! I know each and every one of you worked your tails off and then some, for us during and after the most HISTORIC presidential campaign in modern America. There are no words available to express the gratitude I feel for your efforts, dedication, strength, camraderie, compassion and loyalty.
With your dedication we were able to elect President Obama and now the REAL Fight begins and we (ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA) could again use your brilliance to get Pres. Obama's Agenda PUSHED!!
As you are aware the BIGGEST FIGHT now is healthcare reform. We need many, many foot soldiers to help Pres. Obama get healthcare reform passed this year. The opposition is fighting back hard and with lots of muscle and dollars. And even though I'm lucky enough to be satisfied with the HC I have now( good employee benefit-hc free of charge..no premiums, and I pay only 5.00 co-pays and 5.00 for prescriptions)I'm in this fight for the uninsured and underinsured!!
So I'm begging (you do what you have to do) you to help us out at OFA...we could surely use you.
Thanks in advance for all your efforts and I continue to pray that ALL IS WELL for you and your loved ones!!!
Blessings!!
bonnie4Obama!
After being forced into homelessness and joblessness for three years now and counting, I was informed by an prospective employer that did a background check using information viewed at www.criminalsearches.com (a free national site) that I had a criminal background. Apparently, I'm told, the City of Brotherly Llove changed computer systems in 2006 and took court ordered expunged arrest records and not only keep it alive in their police computer system but also placed in online where it has been copied to potentially 32,000,000,000 background/criminal sites. This same court stuck a lien, also ordered by a judge to listed as satisfied as unsatisfied on all my credit reports. When I told the police department and the district attorney's office of their error, I was told that it was a mistake that has happened many times. In this case, I'm listed for the world to see as an arrestee for violence, drugs, terrortist threats, and other charges - even though I was found not guilty so that I could seek legal redress against the real criminals. City and State officials state that the damages to my reputation and economics mean nothing to them and it is not important that other Philadelphians be made aware of the magitude of their computer errors. I was dismissed with a letter from the Public Defenders to attach to my resumes and/or present to prospective employers.
In this horrible economy with so many out of work and everyone requesting background checks, they claim zero liability and refuse to act to make me whole. So I am labled for life since no one in authority claims to know how to remove this garbage from the many internet sites that copied or cloned this misinformation. Of course, I'm told the lien will drop off automatically in 2014 reducing my ability to acquire an fair credit evaluation and any other financial service. In the meantime, when I apply for decent housing, I am refused and other than that one prospective employer, all of the more than 5,000 applications I have signed allowing them to do a background check, have either sent me a letter stating they chose to give the position to a better candidate without notifying me of the source of their information used for background/criminal checks. I'm told that Pennyslvania a full disclosure law that would notify anyone of who does the background check and where they found their information so that these errors could be prevented or corrected.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and City Council members Vincent Hughes and Louise Williams-Bishop(a church woman) hide behind a "sunshine law" allowing them to freely publish court records, whether they areexpunged or correct. Am I living in America! I was forced to return to Philadelphia after relocating to Florida to deal with this because court personnel don't have to deal with non-residents (I was born and raised in Philly) and I have had no success. Meantime, wages are not accumulating and my social security benefits will suffer. I am forced to seek housing with slumlords who charge me hundreds extra based on background informaion. Even my car insurance was raised $1,000 after a background check. And the big heads and little brained politicans won't answer my calls or visits and I'm told that I have to find and spend thousands on an attorney to clear my name and reputation.
This stinks!!! What happened to justice in the city where the constitution was drafted. Have we really become that naive that we are to believe the government can say or do anything without recourse to the innocent while true criminals walk free. Something is very wrong with this picture, yet the public laugh and point fingers at me protesting because most don't know that something as simple as a traffic ticket will put them on this same site. I'm embrassed to be considered a resident of this city and state and feel that all the state and city politicans should do their job and protect all innocent citizens. Unfortunately, they're still getting paid from my tax dollars of an excellent work history of 40 years and like the police have a wall of silence that theirfront desk staff members are the only ones to benefit from. I can only hope for God's blessing of strength while I am tramatized over and over. City of brotherly love, pay to play, and injustice.
If you had no idea that county, city, and state governments online databases may have leaked your personal information and disregarded your privacy as an American citizen under the constitution 4th and 14th Amendments, I strongly urge you to start researching at www.criminalsearches.com which is a 50 state dump for all such public records. I hope you will not find yourself on a website but if you do, you will have to repeat whatever process your local government has and hope that they do their job right, the second time.
I have also started a petition at www.change.org/criminal justice requesting a law for full consumer disclosure so that when someone does a background/criminal check, you are notified of who they are, the purpose of the check and what and where the information they used is. This way, you would have the opportunity to review and correct misinformation before it impacts your reputation and economics. Please take a moment to add your name to send letters to these politicals to let them know of the urgency of this matter. Thank you for your support.
In times such as these, it's important to speak up.
I am for peace. I am for a future where all our children can make a better world. That's not naive. That's the only sane choice for humanity.
President Obama did a good job in speaking truth to intransigence yesterday in Cairo. Those who see the "other" only in demonizing terms are afraid to move toward a more-balanced relationship. This is understandable. Humans have done some pretty inhuman stuff to each other--and that's not an insult to animals. (Animals have been known to adopt children or other species and raise them as their own.)
Now, we--on all sides of this dispute/conversation--need to reign in or quash the extremist tendencies among us. Those who speak of violence must be shouted down or outed. Those who threaten the peacemakers are afoul of the law. Incitement to violence, especially against our leader, is intolerable.
Those American Jews in Israel--and elsewhere--who denigrate President Obama are a challenge we must confront. Fear is natural. We must remember the past and not repeat the worst part of it. With that, Israel must not bomb Gaza--unless it allows all civilians sanctuary within its borders.
And Palestinians and the Arab world and Muslims in general must recognize the Jewish people and their historic connectedness to Palestine and Israel. Terrorism must end. Israel-hating must stop. Ishmael AND Isaac were brothers, afterall.
Everyone can love the same land, and that's okay. I am not your enemy. I love the things you love. If you demonize me...you lessen yourself.
In that vein, people must not feel superior to anyone. The best spiritual teachers I have had have known this truth. If certain ones are "chosen"...it begs the question: Chosen for what? Hating the other, instead of trying to understand a different point-of-view, is embracing failure and disconnectedness.
There is no favorite. All are children of the One. A true parent loves all its children.
We should respect one another and stop acting on our fears and start living our dreams and aspirations for the good of all.
See the reflection in the other's eyes:
"I and I should not fight but live in peace for ever."
Just sayin'...shalomsalaampeace... ohhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Or is that just ridiculous?
Or pointless...
a circle might, in fact, be a spiral
I'm disappointed that President Obama isn't going for single payer coverage. It seems the fix is in: Working people are screwed again; the rich are rewarded again.
Ought I to support the president on his three principles?
Would a reform be better than no change at all? Or would reform block the way to the complete overhaul of the system by the implementation of a single-payer system that the country so badly needs? Those 3 principles are quite vague, and it seems to me we've been promised them before. What people need is guaranteed healthcare, when they need it even with no coverage and regardless of ability to pay. It's like they're focusing on how much it costs if you already have insurance.
See, I am someone with no healthcare coverage at all. I'm unemployed and struggling to keep up with paying the mortgage and bills. My healthcare plan amounts to: Don't get sick or injured and God help you if you do. Due to losing my job through no fault of my own, my credit has problems now, which has already disqualified me from getting a new job I applied for. Whatever problems my credit has now can probably be repaired if I find enough part-time work here and there. But with no coverage, all it takes is one hospitalization to fuck up my credit beyond all recognition.
What has any of these politicians got to offer someone in my situation? Or the many millions of Americans in my predicament? America deserves better. Whatever happened to "Yes we can," President Obama?
Today, President Obama nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor to be the next U.S. Supreme Court justice. Of course, the Right is already fighting against her confirmation—so we need to get the facts out about her impressive qualifications and background.
Below is a list of 10 key things about Sonia Sotomayor that you might not know. Can you check it out and send it to 10 friends today? If each of us forwards the list, we can start to get the word out about Judge Sotomayor, and help to ensure that she gets a speedy and fair confirmation process.
Ten Things To Know About Judge Sonia Sotomayor
1. Judge Sotomayor would bring more federal judicial experience to the bench than any Supreme Court justice in 100 years. Over her three-decade career, she has served in a wide variety of legal roles, including as a prosecutor, litigator, and judge.
2. Judge Sotomayor is a trailblazer. She was the first Latina to serve on the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and was the youngest member of the court when appointed to the District Court for the Southern District of New York. If confirmed, she will be the first Hispanic to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court.
3. While on the bench, Judge Sotomayor has consistently protected the rights of working Americans, ruling in favor of health benefits and fair wages for workers in several cases.
4. Judge Sotomayor has shown strong support for First Amendment rights, including in cases of religious expression and the rights to assembly and free speech.
5. Judge Sotomayor has a strong record on civil rights cases, ruling for plaintiffs who had been discriminated against based on disability, sex and race.

Born to Puerto Rican parents, she grew up in a South Bronx housing project and was raised from age nine by a single mother, excelling in school and working her way to graduate summa cum laude from Princeton University and to become an editor of the Law Journal at Yale Law School.
7. In 1995, Judge Sotomayor "saved baseball" when she stopped the owners from illegally changing their bargaining agreement with the players, thereby ending the longest professional sports walk-out in history.
8. Judge Sotomayor ruled in favor of the environment and against business interests in 2007 in a case of protecting aquatic life in the vicinity of power plants, a decision that was overturned by the Roberts Supreme Court.
9. In 1992, Judge Sotomayor was confirmed by the Senate without opposition after being appointed to the bench by George H.W. Bush.
10. Judge Sotomayor is a widely respected legal figure, having been described as "...an outstanding colleague with a keen legal mind," "highly qualified for any position in which wisdom, intelligence, collegiality and good character would be assets," and "a role model of aspiration, discipline, commitment, intellectual prowess and integrity."
Judge Sotomayor is an historic, uniquely qualified nominee to the Supreme Court. Let's get the word out and make sure we get a prompt, fair confirmation on her nomination.
Thank you!
Talk about hypocritical bigotry ... They "pretend" to care, ONLY when it's convenient for their agenda.
Read this email that was forwarded by the so-called "Christian" conservatives. They do nothing but condemn President Obama's policies and slander him and his administration with misleading pretenses and by adamantly insisting that he's a Socialist. If they truly cared about their "brothers and sisters", they wouldn't object to extending a helping hand to those in need.Read your Bible folks, then live what you learn!
"A holy man was having a conversation with God one day and said, ‘God, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.’ God led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles, that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. God said, 'You have seen Hell.' They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew, which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, 'I don't understand.' It is simple,' said God. "It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves."

I don't think he would be on the scene if this administration would stop trying to nail the last administation to the cross for war crimes. We are supposed to be going forward (CHANGE), not living in the past.
First of all, the GOP has been very, very negative since day one, way before anything about the war crimes came out. That's just another GOP excuse ... one a day lately. I would have to agree with you, but after the disastrous last 8 years, Cheney should be ashamed of their record and quietly ride off into the sunset. He is a major factor in all the negativity against the new administration, as if his era was such a huge success.
By the way, you're 100% correct. We are supposed to be going forward (CHANGE). That's what the Obama administration is trying to do. That's what the MAJORITY voted for ... OBAMA and CHANGE. Unfortunately, if you look at the GOP voting record, they're doing EVERYTHING in their power to derail any advances toward real change. If the "party of no" continues their spitefulness, we will remain stagnant and we will ALL continue to suffer because of their arrogance and obstinacies.
I'm ashamed to admit I was a lifelong Republican.
The following email is just one example of the trash my disenchanted right-wing wacky relatives send everyday! They're uninformed, obnoxious and yet very, very arrogant ... what a coincidence ... just like Bush and Cheney ... the losers they admire and revere! Unequivocal ignorance, right???
"Tear the country down? Like badmouthing America to every country he has visited? How about spending more in three months then Afghanistan and Iraq has cost us combined? I don’t have to tear down. OB has done it all for us."
I think it's sad. They'll do or say anything to demean our president and undermine the efforts of his entire administration.
I plan to discuss some of the issues in my FIRST EVER webcast on under-reported human rights issues. I plan to host a live webcast 2-3 times per week at 9pm, EST. I believe that there is much work to be done to better address human rights violations. But as humans, I do believe that we have come a long way. And I believe that that the march of history will lead us to a world that treats one another more humanely. But in order for this to occur, the international community must be more aware of crimes against humanity that are occuring at this very moment. Please join me at 9pm, for the first webcast of "STRIKING THE ROOT." I will provide a link on this blog by 6pm tomorrow. The show will be archived, so if you miss it, not to worry!
