For those of you who live in states and regions in whichrepresentatives have not been supportive of President Obama's plansand objectives, it's clear why it would be extremely helpful to callyour representatives, telling them you do want them to support thePresident's plans and actions on behalf of the country.
I live in MA and so have Senators (Kennedy and Kerry) and aRepresentative (Olver) who have been supportive of Pres. Obama evenbefore he was elected. I therefore didn't think I NEEDED to call themto express my husband's and my support for President Obama's programs. It seemed like a drag on their working days, and thus not helpful, tocall when they were already supportive.
Then I happened to hear on a previous issue--the stimulus, Ithink--that calls to the state representatives were running the otherway, by a fairly substantial margin. Others in our mostly supportivestate probably felt the way I did...that we didn't have to callbecause they would already "do the right thing." I'm sure Kennedy,Kerry and Olver would have done the right thing anyway, but how muchbetter to let them know they had the strong support of theirconstituency going into the discussions and the vote? I ended up calling and hearing thatit was appreciated.
This time, when asked to call to say we support the President's budgetplan, I did so, calling all three of my representatives. I asked thepeople on the other end whether it was a bother or helpful, given oursenators' and representative's position, and they said it washelpful and welcome.
We elected President Obama and put him in this position and this struggle for all of us. Now we can't leave him there alone. We have to continueto support him and help him carry on and fulfill the work and goals wefought so hard for before the election and need so much now. It'sessential to keep listening and to stay engaged and, yes, to call ourrepresentatives.
Please support President Barack Obama in his work for us. It's our work too. And knowthat the representatives really do want to know what theirconstituencies think about these issues so important to the future ofour country and the world.
(P.S. Calling is easy. Organizing for America will pull up the names and numbers of your representatives and give you some guidelines for the call if you need them. Couldn't be easier.)

I am participating in the Voter Protection push on election day in Ohio. As you know, Ohio has been central in the struggle over voting rights and access to the polls - even in the recent challenge regarding voter registration. They have asked me to reach out to people working in the legal profession to join me in going to Ohio on Nov. 3 to protect voters rights during election day at the polls. I have met several young attorneys during my attendance at several events, and am asking that you contact me to consider joining me for Ohio on Nov. 3rd and 4th.
Please forward this to any attorneys you know who may help.
Thanks.

Obama - make a BOLD and unprecedented claim and announcement linking your economic plan to less abortions. I personally believe it is true.
When asked why they have an abortion, finances is the number one make it or break it issue. If a woman feels that she cannot adequately support her child, if she will never be able to provide a "quality" life with decent safe housing, and a college education they can afford, the option to abort seems like the "responsible" choice. Additionally, many people report, from many conservative Catholic families, that there is family pressure early on for abortion when a family is perceived as "poor" or unable to "provide" for the unborn. Sometimes this means that the parent (s) rent their home and may have a slim future outlook for owning a home.
This is very real. Very very real.
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION is one of the most direct links to the abortion decision, in my opinion. If the first year, to three years, can be imagined as "do-able," then a woman is more likely to keep her unborn embryo or fetus. Currently, there are parents who are homeless in our nation - and their numbers are on the rise. Parents who cant afford to feed their children or purchase them shoes. In our current culture, we have people who go to church and claim to be pro-life, yet strongly recommend abortion to certain family members, and find it financially justifiable as "irresponsible" to bring a child into "this" situation.
If you want fewer abortions, you will vote for Barack Obama.
Let's also discuss what would happen if Roe V Wade was overturned and the real reason that it came into being other than "privacy." The numbers of women and girls dying from botched or illegal abortions was on the rise. The total number of abortions was unknown. I believe that in some geographic areas it was too difficult to get a safe and affordable abortion, so likely the law did prevent some abortions from occuring. However, many more geographic areas had very readily available abortions, and very sneaky doctors who moved a lot and made decent living doing so under the table or under the guise of a regular obgyn practice or other such heading. In fact, abortion before it was illegal might have been both more affordable and easily accessible than it is now when it is legal. Today, a woman who wants to have an abortion through the abortion pill for example, is not allowed to come in for a pregnancy test until she is over 2 weeks past her missed period. Then, only AFTER she proves to the clinic in her first visit that she is pregnant, she may schedule her abortion visit, but also must have a consultation. The funding or lack thereof for these legal programs is so slim and slipping that they are overbooked, and the woman must wait quite a while sometimes to schedule her abortion pill. So, a woman who calls one week after her period was due, and is willing to come in, and have the earliest abortion possible (considered safer and more responsible by many Americans - some religions even say that the embryo is not yet a real "human" in the first 2-3 months) - many people consider this attempt "responsible." The current legal abortion system does not allow for a woman to have an early and more "responsible" abortion in many cases. If it was illegal, in many cases, a woman would walk in with questions and taking their first test, and walk out having had an abortion. Compare these two cultures and you tell me which one you think produces less abortions. It is the legalizd regulated system. Yes there are hoops to jump through, but most girls and women can figure out what those hoops are and collect the funding from friends in order to pay the illegally operating abortionist. The legal clinics today charge $500 and need the money in cash first or they are unable to proceed.
These are just some educational realities.
Barack Obama, you and I, and John McCain, and most or all Americans would love a world with NO abortions. Is this possible? Possibly. What leads to this? Lack of information, lack of birth control, lack of self esteem, lack of educational opportunities, abstinence only education, etc.
Barack, please AGREE with McCain that a cultural shift is needed, and discuss the following - if you are pro-life you will not shame a mother for the circumstances she has brought a child into the world in. You will thank her for deciding to carry this child when she did not have to make that decision. (Think about - Why did these women before Roe v Wade want the abortion and how did they feel about their life with the child afterwards - how much of it had to do with their economic situation and attitudes towards them about their "irresponsible" decision - the shame of being a mother out of wedlock. You know so many people preach and preach and really a woman cannot force a man to marry her. Many "responsible" and "respected" families, mothers and fathers conceived a child before marriage, and many more today choose to consciously do so.)
In the hopes that you can read my logic through this ramble, I will post this, although I wish I had the energy and time to edit it. It is late and I do not. I think it is important to bring up and I am askign Obama to please make a bold statement because people will vote for McCain thinking he has a plan for lessening abortions through "courage and compassion" and without a good economy or good early childhood programs or affordable colleges, or decent health care for all people, combned with the "abstinence only" eduationl methods he and Palin would endorse, he will simply still have a high abortion rate and growing higher. That is JUST the reality.
Wow, a sit com length commercial from Obama, to be aired almost right before election. I have to say I am pretty excited about this one, almost like waiting for the fist epiosde of a new show (hopefully this metaphor is a sign of things to come, keep your fingers crossed guys)

Just looking at the debate, I really can't say who I feel performed better. It's all pretty standard from both sides, no earth shattering new policies revealed and no major bloopers besides both sides stretching the facts a little, but that's to be expected in all political debates. What do you guys think?

Come on, seriously, she expects people to believe Obama is related to terrorism at the age of EIGHT? Guess Palin got no other options besides spreading obvious lies about Obama as a last desperate attempt to drag him down.

See full coverage on Obama’s bipartisan message at http://kronomy.com/event/XCeB4NcMrq/, including pictures, videos and text. “A new survey conducted by Quinnipiac University over the weekend shows Obama leading McCain in Florida 51 percent to 43 percent, in Ohio 50 percent to 42 percent and in Pennsylvania 54 percent to 39 percent. Since 1960, no president has been elected without winning two of those three states.” Things are looking good for Obama!
Again, good message, nice gesture at this turbulent time from both sides. Just wish it didn’t take a financial meltdown to bring this spirit of cooperation around. Drop me a line at my blog, thanks.
