I watched Obama's 30 minute special, "American Stories, American Solutions," and it truly touched me. Our donations allowed him to broadcast it around the country, but I believe that every person in America should watch this short film. It is so powerful and inspiring. Please do what you can to promote it to those around you:
American Stories, American Solutions.
If the person you are talking to does not think they have time to watch it, please implore them to do so. But we all understand that with the economy being what it is, between work, school and children some people don't have the time or energy that they would like. If that is so, this much shorter video speaks much the same message. It is what first inspired me to support Obama so long ago:
One Voice.
Hi all! With only 10 days to go, we need your support more than ever! Please join us for some great chances to help Obama win in this final push!

The last thing you want on Nov. 4 is to find out you are registered at the wrong address. Fortunately there is an easy way to confirm your registration online. Visit http://www.canivote.org/ to make sure your voice is heard.
The non-partisan website created by the National Association of Secretaries of State hosts an easy to use, comprehensive list of state websites where you can check your eligibility and registered address, and it also provides information on polling places, absentee ballots, and other things you'll need to know in November.
Pundits agree that voter turnout will be one of the most important factors in this election. Florida was decided by 537 votes in 2000. It only takes five minutes to ensure your enfranchisement in one of the most critical elections in history.

I've been reading a bit this morning, and I've found people starting to talk about Obama's position on gun control. The gun control issue seems to be returning somewhat, and Obama's support of the Assault Weapons Ban is really hurting him with moderate gun owners.
I think that it is something he really needs to rethink his stance, because the AWB did absolutely nothing to ban automatic weapons, curb violence, or prevent shootings. It is a meaningless piece of legislation that the Democratic Party needs to leave in the 90s. It serves only to drive away gun owners, which are 25% of American adults. 50% of American households have at least one gun.
Obama can't afford to let gun control become a national issue. Both he and the Democratic Party need to drop the issue, support the status quo, and fight other battles. There are very few people who will vote for gun control, and many people who will vote against. It just isn't worth it.
This is the thread that sparked my concerns:

Congressional staffers and members of the press packed a hearing room on Capitol Hill Wednesday for Rep. Barney Frank's (D-MA) announcement of the first federal marijuana decriminalization bill in decades.
The bill, H.R. 5843, would remove federal criminal penalties for the possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use, so that federal law enforcement agencies can concentrate on violent offenders and major drug traffickers.
Decrim Bill Press ConferenceThree members of Congress spoke at the press conference in support of the bill. Frank spoke of the misuse of resources represented by current marijuana enforcement practices, while Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO) condemned the drug war's disproportionate impact on people of color.
Bill Piper, DPA's director of national affairs (Drug Policy Alliance), highlighted the collateral consequences of marijuana arrests. Piper explained that people convicted of a marijuana charge often lose their jobs and are denied school loans and other forms of public assistance.
Last year alone, the police made almost 830,000 arrests for marijuana law offenses in the United States. Nearly 90 percent of those arrests were for posssession for personal use.
CNN covered Wednesday's event with a story quoting Piper and other advocates.

A girl cries while listening to a speech by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in Bristow, Virginia. Mystery shrouded secret talks between Obama and Hillary Clinton, which sparked new speculation over her vice presidential prospects. (AFP/Tim Sloan)
Received a message from an on-site Obama supporter who's upset that their BLOGS bashing Hillary Clinton have been deleted! If I am being asked to choose sides, I remain steadfast in support of Barack Obama and side with the position of this site!
Think about the backlash that Obama has had to endure because of Rev. Wright and Father Phleger! This is the same premise. Yes, we do have the right to FREEDOM OF SPEECH and to speak our minds in regard to the candidates, but, not at the detriment of Obama's campaign and the site that he uses for campaigning purposes. Come on now! The media is scrutinizing Obama's every move and he is being held accountable for what others say and verbalize. We have to remain focused and see him through to the White House. That is our ultimate goal, right? When they talk about the Democratic Party uniting for the common good of the Party, THAT INCLUDES US and we can't be 100% effective in that if we, like Obama, don't make a truce with the Clintons and the entire democratic party to fight Republican Candidate, McCain! You don't have to like a person to work effectively with them! It would be suicide for Obama to continue to hold a grudge against Clinton WHILE HE'S STILL CAMPAIGNING! Even still, that phase of the campaign is now over! It's time to let it go and move forward! Obama's not in the White House yet! There's a lot of work ahead to get him there and we have to all ban together to get him there! We being "US" Obama supporters and Clinton's supporters and the supporters of all the other former democratic candidates. That CHANGE that Obama talks about and epitomizes, it starts with US! This thing can't rest on the backs of just one man because that is all he is.....one man! This site was meant for Obama supporters to come together, network, strategize and help him to win the 2008 Presidential office and guess what, that is still the purpose of this site! If there is a chance that many of Clinton's supporters may come over here to signify unification for Obama, they can't come over here met with hostility. We are ONE PARTY and our goal is to get the person elected as the Democratic Candidate for this election into the White House! We can't be bitching about who they would have preferred to see in office. That will only cause a rift between supporters and castrate any opportunity for Obama to win the 2008 Presidential Election! With that in mind, I have deleted my anti Clinton BLOG and I will embrace all who come here with a unification mindset in support of the man we're trying to get elected to office. I support the site for taking a stance! This is NOT a hate site, this is a campaign site! The fight is not over! We're still campaigning and we need all the help we can get, including the support of Clinton and her followers! Let's not forget that and let's not take this thing personally because when we screw up, the most that will happen to us is that they disable our on-site account, but, for Obama, our screw up can cost him this election. I thought that Rev. Wright understood that. Apparently he did not! I thought that all of Obama's supporters understood that as well! This isn't about you and me, this is about our support of Barack Obama for President.Let's not get sidetracked! Let's stay focused, keep our sleeves rolled up and LET'S DO THIS!
After the closely contested primary in Indiana last night, pundits and editorials are busy arguing over whether or not the race is effectively over.
This morning, Jim Rutenberg from the New York Times said he thinks the majority of newspapers are declaring the race over in favor of Barack Obama, and that this feeling should solidify over the course of the day. Then Katharine Seelye, also of the New York Times, said that the Clinton campaign has acknowledged that even the full delegate count from Michigan and Florida won't be enough to give them the nomination. This could be a sign that the NYT as a whole has decided that the primary has concluded, which would be a death knell for Clinton's campaign.
On the other hand, the LA Times remains undecided, with a series of articles that indicate that Clinton is still in the race, albeit in tough times. This view will be echoed in many of the morning dailies, which went to press before Clinton's lead in Indiana dropped to only 16,000 votes.
It will be interesting to see how the conversation changes over the next couple of days. Even if it doesn't finish off Clinton's chances, it will affect the outcome of the upcoming primary in W. Virginia. Her only chance is to maintain popular support through to the next round of primaries in Clintonian states, and then heavily contest the last round that is leaning towards Obama, before wrapping the thing up in the convention.
Clinton's campaign will have to work hard to prevent this line from hardening, or the superdelegates will move and the race really will be.
A recent New York Times article compares Obama and Clinton to a Mac and a PC. It specifically looks at this website, my.barackobama.com, and compares the ways social networking has been used by the campaigns.
While Mr. Santa Maria praised barackobama.com for having “this welcoming quality,” he added that it was “ethereal, vaporous and someone could construe it as nebulous.” He said there was a bit of the “Lifetime channel effect, you know, vasoline on the lens” to create a softer effect on the viewer. The “hectic” site that the Clinton campaign is offering could actually be quite strategic, exactly in step with her branding. After all, Mrs. Clinton repeatedly emphasizes how hard she will work for the average American “starting on Day 1.” If she comes across as energetic online, that may simply be her intention. If she shouts a bit more, typographically speaking, that may be the better to be heard.
This is a must read for any technophilic member of this site.

More feedback. Why? The more, the merrier!
Some more of what folks are saying:
Hello Everyone!
Would you like to help reframe the issue surrounding Senator Obama's middle name? Would you like to nuetralize the recent (and ongoing) drama about patriotic symbols such as flagpins? Then join us!
Since the Rose is the National Flower of the United States, we created the "A Rose by any other Name" event as an ongoing nationwide action to show our support for Barack Obama by wearing a national symbol which not only addresses the flagpin question but also reframes the issue of the middle name.
Sign up here -> A Rose by any other Name < - and let your support be counted.
We all know that what really matters is the intelligence and integrity of a person, not the arbitrary coincidences of his name. We all know that what really matters is the content of his character. And it doesn't hurt that the greatest wordsmith of the English language is on our side!
This ACTION's title comes from the famous phrase "That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." (Romeo & Juliet, Act II, scene2). And so would Barack still be the inspiring leader he is even if his name were different!
This ACTION basically says, "Barack Obama, regardless of his name, would still be the same leader who has insired a whole nation with hope and instilled in us a real sense of agency by his exemplary dedication to public service."
This ACTION wants to demonstrate that shows of patriotism can take many forms - wearing flagpins is one form, wearing the national flower is another, and, as Senator Obama has repeatedly said, speaking out for the best interest of the country is perhaps the strongest.
People have already started signing up and sending back enthusistic feedback. Here are some of the things they are saying about this ACTION:
I hope you, too, will join us.
Cheer!Adoyo.

Obama and his big listening movement is the result of ears and American voices
It is more evolved than some can fathom
The fact that so many do

I want to scream
"Welcome Home!"
"We love you"

You are a beautiful people-- If anyone has seen Aaron Funk-- tell him Bob says hello

when will we all believe again that we benefit every single other being in order to be at once:
all that is?
so what. right?
well, after interfacing with well over a hundred people in New Mexico today, I would say the vote count for the registered democrats there from my personal tally was 40% Obama 30% Hillary 25% undecided 5% McCain. Of those undecided- 10 percent leaning towards hillary-- 20% toward Obama and every one but one undecided was definately turned on by my Obama speech-- I went way off script with the last undecided woman I spoke with (20 minute converse) and we spoke about the deeper issues of this movement-- The new frontier reality that I put in prosey poetics earlier. I hope she shares what we talked about with her fellow teachers on Monday-- that in itself payed for my hours there. She was my last call of the night and I must say it was inspirational.
It is also interesting to me that this dream world I have is so supraconscious-- see last blog-- so what... right?
It makes it so fucking real as well.
Of note--
I called 60 or so people in Zuni-- almost all were Native Americans. 75% of there phones were disconnected. I think I had some of the wyrdest but coolest conversations with these people. I am cherokee/french/german. There are many prophecies concerning the year 2012 that are shared between the Native Peoples in the southwest. I actually got to talk about these with some of those people. It was like "lightning striking in a clear blue sky."
Some people are swayed by Bill Richardson's making nice at the New Hampshire debate and hence lean towards Hillary. I wonder what that was about-- too many favors???
And everyone is waiting for Edwards to give them the go ahead to vote for Obama-- isn't it obvious he is in Obama's camp? I told those people, "couldn't you see him as a member of Obama's cabinet-- said the same to a Kucinich supporter as well. Seriously, those three candidates (Kucinich, Edwards, Richardson) all seem to be integral agents in this movement-- they are on the same team don't you think?
I am sure this will make more sense tomorrow after my mind is able to process it with sleep. What a day. I want to do it again-- is that wrong?
;)
