A Grand and Wonderful Celebration!
When John asked Sarah to be his running mate,
She did not blink, she did not wait.
Did Sarah so charm John McCain
That he failed to think and think again?
A presidential hopeful, old and sick,
Needed to make a smarter pick.
Sarah's rise to fame was rapid;
She's better dressed, but no less vapid.
The GOP has, thus, become
The party of the confused and dumb.
For a lot less chaos and a lot less drama:
Vote for Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
Please come to my blog and tell me what you think. "Outside Issues - A Political Blog" by Leeza Coleman is widely read on MySpace. I plan to continue to blog during Barack's presidency, too.
Come visit, share your opinions, tell me if you think I have gotten something wrong. Help me make this blog true to Barack Obama's vision for our nation.
If hope for the future is infectious, please pass it around.

Birth of a New Day
Some times change
When you can
Watch the world evolve
Like autumn leaves
A vivid reminder that
Summer is over
In the dead of night
When old things
Remind you to renew
Pants are longer
And days are shorter
Green sleeves instead of thumbs
The road is long
Hitchhikers look for warmer galaxies
Slums become villages
As home fires burn in
Empty oil barrels and
Strays get out their best behavior
In order to be
Brought in from the cold
And feast on scraps
Give a dog a bone
Find an orphan a home
Spare some change for salvation
How great was the sacrifice of Judas
To be remembered as a villain
For helping a child go back home
With a broken heart
To a father’s love
Only a sinner is afraid to die
Only a heathen calls Earth home
Angels live in Heaven
For in my father’s house
There are many mansions
Death is only the beginning
Life is for the living
Eternity is for immortals only
Mortality is for the morbid
What good is a body
Once it has been discarded
By a free spirit
Decay is for fungi
How can you be saved
If you’re still apologizing
For things you know are wrong
How can you be sorry
One day a week
For what you’ll do tomorrow
And the next day
Holy men called Jesus a heretic
For healing sinners
On the Lord’s day
And calling God Father
So that the saved could one day
Give babies god-fathers
On their christening day
Wash me in the waters
Of Saint John Baptist
To put out the hell fire in my eyes
Because I see doom’s day
Mushroom clouds raining blood
The day after judgment day
Those who fear death
Don’t deserve it
I pray for Heaven to call
And say my work here is done
This life is bittersweet
Like swallowing a book of secrets
While being told a pack of lies
Sold a bedtime story
Designed to give me nightmares
To get me to open my eyes
Don’t wake me
I’m dreaming
Can’t you feel
A brand new day
Goodbye yesterday
Good morning heartache
Like a penny with a hole in it
Slavery left empty spaces
On the face of freedom
Copper colored feet and
Wooly pads of hair
Shepherds facing a king
Leading sheep to the birth
Of a child of God
Born from the womb of a woman
Humbled by the words of an angel
Made to walk to the land of their forefathers
To be counted
Because a change was coming
A king would lead them
To the land promised to them
Searching for the freedoms
Written in the laws
But never extended to them
Refusing to accept
That there was no room
For a king
Who dreamed of a world
Where a child
Born of two worlds
Could become
A leader of former slaves
And a shepherd of sheep
Even as the wolf
Tried to separate the flock
Wise men kneeled
After following a star
To where angels stood guard
And the humblest of beginnings
Saved a race of men
Who always knew
God was coming
To save them
On judgment day
Let the sinner
Be sinful still
And the righteous
Be right
In the end
At the dawn
Of a brand new day

While I do not usually condone consuming large quantities of alcoholic beverages, certain occasions call for more than the usual glass of wine with dinner. The Sarah Palin-Joe Biden vice presidential debate scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 2, is one of those times. Though the vice presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden is likely to be an entertaining show even if you're stone cold sober, just think of how much more fun you could have adding alcohol to the mix.RULES OF THE SARAH PALIN VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE DRINKING GAME--Take a chug of Moosehead beer whenever Sarah Palin says the following:maverickreformerany sentence including the words "neighbor" and "Russia"small-town valuesGwen or Joe (remember how many times Palin said "Charlie" during the Gibson interview?)off shore oil drillingAlaska"Thanks but no thanks!"witchcraft (not likely...but hey, you never know, especially if Kathleen Parker's name should pop up)--Take two chugs of Moosehead whenever Sarah Palin does the following:Utters a coherent sentence (i.e., contains a subject and a verb and makes logical sense)Talks about her new friend Henry Kissinger or Hamid KarzaiExplains how being the part-time mayor of Wasilla, Alaska with a full-time city manager counts as executive experience--Chug a whole bottle of Moosehead if Sarah Palin mentions the following:Palin PresidencyOn second thought, make that two bottles of Moosehead.-----------------------------------------Author's note: The author of this piece does not actually condone the drinking of large quantities of alcohol or playing drinking games of any sort. By JOHN TEEL Special to the Courier & Press Tuesday, September 16, 2008 I shudder at the thought of Sarah Palin as vice president because I live in Alaska and know how violently misaligned Alaskan culture is with the rest of the United States. Not only is there an entire country physically separating Alaska from the United States, but there is a cultural divide just as wide. Palin governs a culture stuck in the 19th century.
Although she has an 80 percent approval rating as governor, keep in mind that most Alaskans are very different from most people in the United States. Nearly everyone in Alaska owns several guns, enjoys trophy hunting, and thinks we should drill for oil anywhere and everywhere. In Alaska many people still use outhouses, rarely bathe or comb their hair, and it's normal not to have electricity and running water. Does this sound like you and your family? If New York City had the population density of Alaska, there would be one person living on Manhattan Island. Alaska is like no other state, and in most regards it's a foreign country with a foreign culture. Alaska was colonized by greedy people who wanted to get rich fast through the consumption of natural resources (minerals, wildlife and oil).
Little has changed in a hundred years, and every industry in Alaska still exploits the land, sea or wildlife. Natural resource extraction is the backbone of Alaska, and it runs through every aspect of Alaskan life. Palin represents the modern face of these pioneer day interests.
Let me highlight some of Palin's atrocities occurring right now in Alaska: Palin offered a bounty of $150 for each right front leg of freshly killed wolves; Palin supports aerial hunting of wolves and bears, even though Alaskans voted twice to ban it; Palin used $400,000 of state money to fund a media campaign supporting aerial hunting; Palin is a champion for big oil and supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; Palin believes man-made global warming is a farce; and Palin opposes listing polar bears as an endangered species and is suing the federal government over it because she thinks it will limit her oil exploitation. The list of her atrocities to the natural world goes on and on.
It is not just a vehement disregard for the environment that makes Palin's policies so horrific. Palin believes that creationism should be taught in public schools; Palin opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest; and Palin is currently under investigation in Alaska for abuse of power. If Palin ever becomes president, we can kiss the natural world goodbye, along with the freedom we treasure so much in this country. Palin is bad for the planet and bad for America.

One Victory - Another War to be Won!PLEASE HELP
This is one time in which animal cruelty aligns with national politics and the national stage. With your letters to editors, newspapers, media, commentators, and the wolves just may get some attention as long as Palin is the exterminator. Let's take this opportunity to take this to the people outside our own website here. NOW, IF WE COULD JUST SEND PALIN NEXT DOOR TO RUSSIA (Didn't she say she could see Russia from her yard)? WE COULD SAVE THE WOLVES SHE AERIAL SHOOTS FOR BOUNTY IN ALASKA. THE THOUGHT OF THAT BLOODTHIRSTY AGENDA OF ANTI-ANIMAL AND ENVIRONMENT NUT CASE IN THE WHITE HOUSE IS ENOUGH TO MAKE ME CRAZY. BELOW FIND THE RESULTS OF THE LEGISLATION SHE FOUGHT FOR SPENDING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIGHT DEFENDERS OF ANIMALS, THE NRDC, THE WILDLIFE FEDERATION FUND AND MANY OTHERS. THE WOLVES CRIMES? THEY COMPETE WITH RICH HUNTERS TRAVELING TO ALASKA TO SHOOT BIG GAME.
There are those uninformed people who actually believe that the literal wolf is at the door and Palin is protecting the population in AK from the threat of wolves. Another believe is that they are a threat to the cattle. This is not Yellowstone and these wolves are deep in the AK wilderness. They have never been a threat to humans nor livestock (Alaskans are not cattle ranchers - it is the caribou in question) So, here's a great question asked by a rational anti-animal violence advocate. If they need to eat caribou in AK, then why don't they "raise" caribou, like we do cattle. We don't go out to the back 40 to shoot a cow for supper. Not since the 1800s. Not to mention, the health of the consumer. What a thought! The truth is that game hunting brings in revenue - people would raise caribou if this was a mainstay of their sustenance. It's Palin's pandering to the NRA and providing the "Hunt" (big game hunters) for big bucks (and we don't mean deer - we mean $)WELL, THIS IS CERTAINLY A GREAT VICTORY FOR WOLVES IN THE NORTHERN ROCKIES, AND WE WON IN YELLOWSTONE. NOW WE NEED ANTI-PALIN - PRO-WOLF BUMPER STICKERS. PALIN - THE WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING IS REALLY THE PALINATOR IN WOLF CLOTHING.PLEASE GO TO THE WEBSITES BELOW

From: alerts@nrdcactionfund.org [mailto:alerts@nrdcactionfund.org] Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2008 1:35 PMSubject: Big Win for Wolves VICTORY! Dear Kristie,It's the best possible news! The Bush Administration has just announced it intends to withdraw its plan to strip gray wolves of their endangered species protection in the Northern Rockies. What a huge win for wolves AND for hundreds of thousands of online activists like you who share the credit for this amazing victory! Let me bring you up to speed. Last March, the Bush Administration declared the Northern Rockies' wolf population "fully recovered," then it handed off responsibility for the wolves to Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. Just as we predicted, a bloodbath ensued, with 110 wolves slaughtered by state agents and hunters in as many days. NRDC, Earthjustice and 11 other conservation groups raced to court and won an injunction that put a temporary halt to the killing until the full case could be heard. We fully expected to fight a drawn-out courtroom battle in order to win a permanent victory. But thanks to the Bush Administration's surrender, that battle will NOT happen. Instead, the wolves of Yellowstone and the surrounding region will remain protected by federal law. That means Wyoming, Montana and Idaho will NOT be allowed to begin the extermination of hundreds of wolves this fall as part of a massive public hunt -- the first in more than three decades. Instead, those wolves will continue to roam the Rockies -- wild and free -- as nature and the law intended! Why did U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials throw in the towel? They had to face up to the fact that their case against wolf protection would never hold up in court. Above all, they ignored the best available science showing that wolf populations had not fully recovered. In the end, the Administration had little choice but to put its tail between its legs and beat a hasty retreat. Make no mistake: the fight doesn't end here. You can be sure the federal government will be back soon enough with a new plan. And the states will learn their lessons and return with yet another scheme for killing wolves. But you can be equally sure that, with your help, NRDC will stand vigilant, fully prepared to meet and turn back any new and deadly threat. In the meantime, please join me and all of us here at NRDC in celebrating this red-letter day in the storied history of the Endangered Species Act. It happened because you and thousands of others chose to stand up in defense of embattled wildlife. Thank you! Sincerely,Frances BeineckePresident Natural Resources Defense Council

I never thought bad of Alaskans but now I have two exceptions.
Susan Manyoky, one of the Alaskan delegates in St Paul this week, rejected the media caricaturing her state as a place where people had little else to do but drink, get pregnant and shoot moose.
“We’re Republicans and we’re not promiscuous,” she said primly, before adding: “We do get to hunt moose and chop them up in in our basements.”
Mrs Palin has ensured that she and Mr McCain should have their own army of activists knocking on doors and waving signs for him on bridges this year. But it remains to be seen whether she repels as many voters as she attracts and proves that picking this Alaskan is half-baked.
Main Article
Governor Sarah Palin has an extreme anti-conservation record on issues ranging from global warming, energy and drilling to wildlife and habitat protection.
Governor Palin is an active promoter of Alaska's aerial hunting program whereby wolves and bears are shot from the air or chased by airplanes to the point of exhaustion before the pilot lands the plane and a gunner shoots the animals point blank.
Palin offered a $150 bounty for wolves to entice hunters to kill more wolves in certain parts of the state, with hunters having to present a wolf's foreleg to collect the bounty.
She actively opposed a ballot measure campaign seeking to end the aerial hunting of wolves by private hunters and approved a $400,000 state-funded campaign aimed at swaying people's votes on the issue.
She also introduced legislation to make it easier to kill wolves and bears and which would have also removed the aerial hunting initiative from the ballot and block the ability of citizens to vote on the issue.
The Board of Game, which she appoints, has approved the killing of black bear sows with cubs as part of the program and expanded the aerial control programs.
The media is currently looking into reports that state officials implementing one of the aerial wolf killing programs illegally killed five-week old wolf pups just outside their dens.
