* 75% are worried, of which 33% of are "very worried" about paying for their college education. * 33% had no tuition money saved. * Of those who did have tuition money saved, 55% recently lost money in their college savings. the most shocking stat, however, was that an overwhelming 96% said "Yes" when asked "In times of economic crisis, does a college degree become even more important for your employability?" What can we do to make college more affordable?!!!
Demographic that voted Obama in demands accountability on college costs, employment
Obama’s election victory was in great part driven by his ability to rally youth and first time voters. In fact, USA Today reported that 66% of voters aged 18-29 and 68% of first-time voters voted for Obama.
Now the demographic that put him in office wants to know: how will President Obama respond to the issues that most concern them?
In a recent survey, CampusCompare asked nearly 2000 college students “What is the one question you would want to ask the future president?” Not surprisingly, college costs and future employability were top of the list. Increasing unemployment rates are raising concerns amongst students that they will not find the jobs they need after college to pay back those hefty loans. Through their questions – submitted anonymously – students are sending a clear message that government has a role to play in looking out for their interests.
Are today’s market conditions undermining our nations’ students’ drive to seek higher education? It seems that students are still betting on education. An overwhelming 96% of survey respondents agreed when asked “In times of economic crisis, does a college degree become even more important for your employability?” But they are making frugal choices. 70% are not willing to splurge on Ivy League and say, “I just need a degree in order to compete in this job market. Any degree or school will do.”

PLEASE PHONE BANK WHENEVER YOU CAN!
I expected to attend it today from 6:00-8:00 p.m. I thought I would go early, so I set out at twenty minutes before six. I went to the office yesterday at the same time to phone bank, and the traffic was a breeze. Not today! There was not a parking place to be seen for blocks in all directions. People were walking toward the office from the north, east, south and west. After more time than I wanted to spend in car to car traffic, I was able to make a turn down a sidestreet, still bumper to bumper, and finally find my way out of the madhouse.
It might sound as though I am complaining. I'm not. I'm thrilled that so many people turned out to support the opening. I just hope everyone is also involved in helping to get Barack elected.
I'm a visual person. This map makes it loud and clear what needs to be done.

California, our goal is to help Nevada come from the "dark side" into the light.
"After the great success of the Democratic convention, the choice of Sarah Palin is surely a Hail Mary pass," Schumer said. "It is a real role of the dice and shows how John McCain, Karl Rove et al realize what a strong position the Obama-Biden team and Democrats in general are in in this election."
Schumer's "roll of the dice" comment might come back to bite him _ that's exactly the phrase Bill Clinton used against Obama during the primary season.
But Schumer rails on: "Certainly the choice of Palin puts to rest any argument about inexperience on the Democratic team and while Palin is a fine person, her lack of experience makes the thought of her assuming the presidency troubling. I particularly look forward to the Biden-Palin debate in Missouri.”

From: HEREPalin strikes a pose for Vogue
Palin struck a pose for Vogue, a fashion magazine that spent Wednesday morning at her Wasilla home.
The 43-year-old former high-school athlete and ex-television broadcaster would not be out of place in the magazine.
In a state where residents are not shy about voicing their political opinions, Internet blogs also don't ignore this aspect of the current occupant of the governor's office. One proclaims Alaska and Palin: “Coldest State, Hottest Governor.”
But don't let her black or red power suits fool you; the fashion photographer quickly learned this week that Palin is an Alaska girl at heart.
“At first they had me in a bunch of furs,” she said. “Yeah, I have furs on my wall, but I don't wear furs. I had to show them my bunny boots and my North Face clothing.”
Photographers took shots of Palin – often including her daughters Bristol, 17; Willow, 13; and Piper, 6 – to be published in an upcoming edition.
As for the story line, Vogue was vague.
Magazine spokesman Patrick O'Connell only said she will be part of a story for its February edition to be released late January.
Palin was a little more forthcoming, saying Vogue wanted to talk more about fashion and women in leadership.
Palin has attracted plenty of attention from national media outlets during her inaugural year as the state's first female chief executive.
She's been interviewed by CNBC, MSNBC and Newsweek, and shared the spotlight on PBS' The Charlie Rose Show with Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano.
Most questions have focused energy related issues, like applications that have been received for the right to build a pipeline, or on the federal corruption probes that continues to dog the state.
And she was glad to have an international fashion publication interested in Alaska for other reasons.
“Can you imagine if our administration would choose to shun any kind of national limelight and let them capitalize on some of the negative with the corruption trials,” Palin said.
“Yes, it's humbling,” she said, “but it's also a responsibility we've taken on: changing Alaska's image.”
Vogue photographers picked the right day for the shoot, with a fresh layer of snow serving as a backdrop at her home about 40 miles north of Anchorage.
“It was the most perfect day in the world with the new snow,” she said. “Everything was just too perfect: the mountains and the sun and the fog on the lake.”
And for the record, Palin prefers clothing made by more outdoorsy clothiers, like North Face and Columbia rather than runway fashion dresses.

Dear Members and Friends of The Clergy Letter Project,
I thought all of you might want to take a look at this newspaper article (http://dwb.adn.com/news/politics/elections/story/8347904p-8243554c.html) discussing Governor Sarah Palin's stance on the evolution/creation issue. The piece is from the Anchorage Daily News and ran during the last gubernatorial race. from Michael

more from Dems2008: There will be a Vice President Debate, and it will be up to Biden, to put high pressure on her, and ask her, What would you do questions, dealing with Putin, and Putin isn't about to have a young No experience women put him down or even talk with her.As far as the middle east, dealing with a woman, is a insult, to their religion."Lights-out" could be at any time with McCain, due to his health! I liked McCain in 2000, but in 2008, he is dangerous!I think he wants us to attack her, I would just double the attacks on him, and leave her alone. If she is strong on corruption, she could split the Republican party! Ask her how she feels about lobbyist, and did she take any money from the oil lobby....

from University of Southern California Students for Obama:
Today we found out that the Republican Nominee for Vice President is Governor Sarah Palin. I have watched all the debates after her acceptance speech and no one brought up the fact that she, in front of a worldwide audience, broke Operational Security the Military prides itself on. She announced the MOS of her son serving in the Army, and went on to say the exact date and the country her son¢s unit will deploy too. She has not only endangered the life of her son, but all the other soldiers in his unit. Senator John McCain never talked about his own son¢s service for that very reason. I think it shows the lack of Judgment on the part of McCain¢s Camp to not screen her speech and shows her own inexperience on the National Stage. For a candidate who prides himself on National Security his Vice Presidential choice just blew that argument out of the water. So why are we not talking about this issue?
