I do not like the terms liberal or conservative, but they are simply handles that give us a basic place to start when trying to figure out where someone is coming from. In addition, the "party" system of government isn't the greatest - it was not created by the constitution, but simply a way people have chosen/invented in order to organize themselves for the electoral process. I choose the Democratic Party because it politically exposes values such as caring for people who can't care for themselves and racial equality.
Unfortunately, along with such values are side-effects which turn me off such as equating sexual orientation with biological ethnicity or "race" -and- fighting for a woman’s right to choose to end a pregnancy. These are things that I strongly disagree with for biological reasons as well as reasons of personal fait... but I digress.
So Yes, I am both a conservative and a democrat. Here are three areas that explain why:
So, this is who I am; a conservative Democrat. I feel strongly about social justice, while also accepting that right and wrong, good and evil exists. I am not a pacifist – I’m still working on my views regarding war but physical force is a necessity if evil exists and justice is remotely possible. The Bush doctrine of pre-emptive strikes is not the moral high-ground and so I’m not sure it is right - I mean this pejoratively, although I have nothing personally against the former President.
Finally, I am interested in others thoughts on such things. Feel free to comment or just send me a note.

We need emergency legislation to stop large financial institutions from victimizing American citizens while Congress and the President are busy dealing with critical issues.
AT&T, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase (and Washington Mutual) credit customers are being systematically downgraded in their credit ratings and having their interest rates at least doubled with never having had a late payment or over limit charge.
Chase has told some people that if they want to continue to have a credit card, they have to agree to pay 30 percent interest. Most of us feel the need to have some credit in case of emergencies.
AT&T cancelled my 12 year card with perfect credit because I wasn't using it.
Then, Bank of America sent me a letter that they were doubling my interest rate unless I said no. I said no. They decreased my credit limit and reclassified me as having maxed out my card. I had not maxed out my credit limit.
Now Chase is sending me strange letters and making comments about letting me keep my WAMU card if my credit is good. Again, I have never had a late payment or gone over my credit limit. I pay early and more than the minimum.
I am in a distressed financial position at this time. I am living on what is left of my 401K after Bank of America made a mess of it.
Everyone I mention this to has a family member or friend who is having the same thing done to them. It is systematic. It is calculated. It is wrong.
We need your help. We need your help now. Please contact President Obama and your representatives in Congress.

I'm going back for the Inauguration! Life is good! Many of the Obama and Coordinated Campaign volunteers are going for the Inauguration. :)
Who else is going?
Bev
PS I grew up in Maryland and will be seeing friends from high school for the first time in many years. :) I'm going Jan 16th to Jan 25th.
The call begins: "Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC," before telling recipients that they "need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's home, and killed Americans."
We are now witness to America in the hands of an angry and temperamental John McCain. His campaign is in full kitchen sink mode while the American economy continues to teeter on a full-scale meltdown. Apparently John hasn't noticed that we are now in our seventh, consecutive day of negative, stock market losses. Over $2 TRILLION in working class wealth has evaporated over the past 15 months. John McCain's campaign is NOT about "Country First"- it is about "Anger First." McCain's attacks on Obama represents an escalation never before witnessed in American politics. The current attacks, and the ones unfortunately to come, are even more vicious than the swift-boat attacks on John Kerry - and they will continue unless we do something about it. Barack would like to buy a series of 30 minute ads in the last week of the campaign to ensure a Democratic victory for the first time in 8 dreadful years. Help Barack close the deal! Consider a $5-$10 donation right now and let John McCain know that anger is not a virtue appreciated, nor desired in an American Presidency.

It's time to request your absentee ballot. With only 7 weekends left, and the need for you to work the polls on Election Day, now is the time to request an absentee ballot. Here is how the process works – You submit an Absentee Ballot Application. About three weeks before Election Day, your Board of Elections will mail you a ballot. You must complete the ballot and return it before the deadline stated on the ballot. How do I get an Absentee Ballot Application? You can download it from this weblink: http://elections.state.md.us/voting/2008_absentee_info.html Fill it out, write in the address for your county's board of elections (available on the form), slap on a stamp and mail it. The deadline to submit an Absentee Ballot Request form is October 28th.
Thanks and see you in Virginia or Pennsylvania.

The New Yorker described Barry Blitt's work as lampooning of "scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama's campaign.""The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create," Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said."But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree," Burton added.
I think the idea that the Obamas are branded as unpatriotic [let alone as terrorists] in certain sectors is preposterous. It seemed to me that depicting the concept would show it as the fear-mongering ridiculousness that it is.
I've invited Obama supporters to write one "blog" post per week about Obama for the next 10 weeks. This will take us through the convention in Denver. Our guidelines are simply that the posts are positive and honest. The movement is building: already 25+ bloggers signed up, so that's at least 250 posts over the next 10 weeks, and more folks sign on everyday!
If you're new to blogging, it is just as easy as emailing--so if you can send an email--you can be a blogger! I can get you set up with you own blog in less than 5 minutes! So why not? Join Operation HOPE!
Especially if you are already an active blogger, it doesn't take any extra effort. and your blog will probably get more traffic, since I'll be linking all the bloggers and promoting the event.
Please check out the event details and sign up if you're interested in blogging for Obama: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/44hfj I am coordinating the bloggers (with links to all the active bloggers doing 10 posts in 10 weeks) on my "Crush on Obama" blog at: http://rubycrushonobama.blogspot.com I look forward to joining with you to spread Obama's positive message of change in action! -Ruby

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. President George W. Bush has ordered the release of $200 million in emergency aid to help countries where the soaring cost of basic food has spurred riots and instability.
Food. People are resorting to violence to get it. In Haiti. Morocco. Bangladesh. Mexico. And it's spreading. The cost of food has risen 120 percent or more in some countries. World hunger organizations are trying to stave off starvation by providing a staple in many countries: rice. Asia, Africa, the Caribbean all have suffered as the cost of rice imports have hit record highs.

The cost of food has risen 120 percent or more in some countries. World hunger organizations are trying to stave off starvation by providing a staple in many countries: rice. Asia, Africa, the Caribbean all have suffered as the cost of rice imports have hit record highs.
Helping these organizations put rice back on the menu for those less able to afford it is just too easy. How? Play a word game. Whaaa? Yes, build your vocabulary and feed the world.
The site is Free Rice.com and for every answer you get right, you donate 20 grains of rice. Right now, I've got 2720 grains of rice headed to families around the world but I need you Obama supporters to help me. Head over to the site, play a game that helps you learn some very deep words and help end hunger at a time it's most needed.
JUST PLAY. The sponsors do the heavy lifting. Every word you answer correctly donates 20 grains of rice to the United Nations' World Food Program. The organization is the world’s "largest food aid agency, working with over 1,000 other organizations in over 75 countries. In addition to providing food, the World Food Program helps hungry people to become self-reliant so that they escape hunger for good. Wherever possible, the World Food Program buys food locally to support local farmers and the local economy."
The FreeRice.com site notes, "The rice you donate makes a huge difference to the person who receives it. According to the United Nations, about 25,000 people die each day from hunger or hunger-related causes, most of them children. To a mother or father watching a loved child die in their arms from hunger, the rice you donate is more precious than anything in the world."
Come on, get the kids, your local school, your friends and your family involved. Who knows, you might just find out that your nascent urges to engage in philanthropic undertakings appertains in your primordial soul. (Play the game)
I went to Hillaryclinton.com (don't worry, I'm still a loyal Obama dude through and through) and went to the "find an Event" section. I put in my zipcode and a 100 mile radius and only 2 events came up (both in NC-I'm in Va). So then I went to my guys find an event, put in the same info and guess what...7 events came up.
Why not try this experiment with your zip code (go to both sites) and let me know what you come up with. Should you find more Hillary than Obama, then we have some more work to do!!
Have a great week!!
blessings,

please report your findings to my profile, thank you!!
Clinton faces claims of borrowed language
I knew that her comments about, “We’re going to be fine…” were lifted from John Edwards. Now I find that she “lifted” from her husband as well.
Surely Hillary doesn’t mean she used the Xerox machine for her heart rending closing. Let’s get real now, or so she says. “If you’re going to use words, they should be your own words.” SHAME, SHAME on you, Hillary.
“Since her campaign leveled allegations of copying at Sen. Obama, observers have pointed out similarity between some of Sen. Clinton's language and that of her husband.”
(CNN) – Hillary Clinton – whose campaign has spent the past several days pointing to instances of borrowed language in the speeches of rival Barack Obama – is being accused of lifting words from one very familiar politician: her own husband, former President Bill Clinton.
During Thursday night’s CNN Democratic debate, Clinton looked to highlight occasions when lines used by Obama have resembled those delivered by his friend and adviser, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.
Clinton’s closing answer, which brought the audience to its feet, highlighted her personal struggles and the difficulties facing ordinary Americans: "You know, the hits I’ve taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country."
Shortly after she delivered her closing remark, a reader of Joshua Micah Marshall’s Talking Points Memo Web site noted that the line seemed to bear a resemblance to one her husband was quoted as delivering during his 1992 campaign.
"The hits that I took in this election are nothing compared to the hits the people of this state and this country have been taking for a long time," her husband was quoted as saying in an article by Anna Quindlen in the New York Times in that November of that year.
Last night, Hillary Clinton also said: “You know, whatever happens, we're going to be fine. You know, we have strong support from our families and our friends. I just hope that we'll be able to say the same thing about the American people. And that's what this election should be about.”
The Obama campaign immediately began circulating a similar comment delivered by former presidential candidate John Edwards. “What's not at stake are any of us. All of us are going to be just fine no matter what happens in this election. But what's at stake is whether America is going to be fine,” Edwards said during a December debate in Iowa.
