I support the President and his goals of continuing a program of no child left behind but the difference I believe is actually funding the program during theses hard; tight financial times. The wisdom needed to deal with and manage, the support of a country in financial crisis. Dealing with issues of economic stability at all levels of our society, to include Wallstreet. Will we be a people of hope and promise? Or lost causes and nothingness comes to destroy our soul or cloud our thinking on issues of doing what is right and what will benefit the many. I believe the goals of Organizning for America are honorable and clearly for the good of the American people in the long term health care debate. The ..."dream continues and the fights goes on...", as the Honorable Senator Edward T. Kennedy, said before his death.
We become lost in self-doubt but the renewal of purpose and belief in the higher powers and religion to ground us, and stabilize this emptiness while we journey or make our quest in life to hopefully do good as the good book said, "Jesus went about doing good." in the book of Acts. Should we all try to achieve this doing good and pursuit education or develop our thinking? Learning to have a positive impact on community and thinking about, the greater good and not just the self. Education becomes a tool, to help us become reasonable men and women. As we think about choice and choosing. Am I behaving ethical or doing the right thing for my highest good? For the good of society and hopefully to give back to others. Or am I an aggressive capitalist fighting to get a piece of the American dream and out witting government to pay my fair share of taxes and support the country? Due to my personal greed and lack of values of my fellow Americans that did not work as hard and as long as I have to accomplish my material wealth and will it be the Rich man in hell and the poor man in heaven or what is the balance of the best practice and behavior of all to live with priniciples?
I did not vote for a representative that do not have the guts or Balls to take a hard stand and fight for the American people, compromising with people that are not serious is a waste of time and energy. I am gravely disappointed with the Leadership staffers at the White House counseling the President, they are a disappointment and no stomach to fight hard and straight forward. Do we care about Americans or do we not, a "PUBLIC OPTION" is essential and unionized workers and those non-unionized must find common ground. Including the public option is not a dare or dread it is the right thing to do. Looking to limit cost, make health care affordable, and meet the goals of the President are what the Democratic leadsrs should be doing and the people should be given consideration by offering the public option in health care, what is the Finance Committee afraid of? The people or corporations and insurance companies making a profit off of health care?
The Blue Doggs are a disappointment and must be reminded of their party platform. We cannot wait and we should not wait for reform, now is the time to change the health care system not tomorrow. Now.
Cooperatives are not a compromise they are an ineffective method of selling us out, and not compromising on profits. The American people deserve better, and demand a public option, the change I can believe in and the yes, I can is what I believe in and yes, one man can make a difference.
This is something I had not thought about much, my age. When you are busy living life, time flies by you the years mount up and caught me unaware of my maturity. Not just in appearance but the aches and pains I never had at twenty-five. Now I know why my Grandmother took her time to climb up the stairs and down into the basement. I am becoming the senior citizen, my grandparents were to me. But I hope to stop and change some of the outcomes of not staying active and keeping in touch with church, community, and having outting in public places. Doing walk abouts, even though the challenge of feeling safe in a city with high-unemployment are a serious issues. Seniors beware and protect yourselves, changes in Healthcare is coming. So the point is should we be afraid or move forward by offering positive supportive tools to be implemented in a health care system that is outdated and needs to modernizing very fast. In order to compete with the rest of the modern world, by reducing cost of health care in America.
The climate in the country right now is very divisive and feelings go very deep on this issue of "Health Care Reform". But I keep meeting more seniors with sad stories to tell about the current delivery of health care to include my own experiences. Recently, on Friday, August 28th, I was involved in a serious car accident. My car is out of service for at least the next few weeks, school is starting in a few days and I have no transportation. So I guess I wiill be catching the bus, which is one of the most unreliable forms of getting around in Detroit. Considering the fall and winter months are coming, weather patterns changing and who knows what Michigan weather will do. People I think are like the weather also, changing their disposition with time and information once the falsehoods or lies are known. While in the emergency room, I was asked what type insurance did I have, with whom and who is my primary care doctor, before I was actually treated. I was given inferior care and no X-ray was taken nor did he really treatment me. How could the doctor truly access my case without an X-ray. He ordered nothing, gave me a couple pills and I was dismissed and discharged. I will be going to my private doctor to get an X-ray and follow-up.
Much has changed people in medical institutions are concerned more about money than treating people with pain. The quality of care is gone in less than a generation. People go to medical school not for the"love of medical field profession" or to help but to make lots of money. Time has changed so has our values of concern and compassion. The debate about health care has gotten very nasty and compromise is unlikely. We, are face with the name calling, disrespect of our President of the United States by "political demogouism" that has allowed the freedom of speech but borderline violent rhetoric of the right. This is also being done at some of the so-called places of wishop, may the almighty help us all. Civility in our political arguments and discourse of issues of the day, date back to the great philosophers of yesterday. The public killing of Socrates. But the hate or anger leading to violence by thoses whom fail to agree with your point of view in public discourse is unacceptable and disrespectful. Should be condemned by the all parties and especially our leaders in the public circles of debate and legislator's deliberations. The public has lost it's ability to understand basic Roberts' rules of order at meetings. Shameful to see people not having all the facts drawing conclusions on issues before the actual bills are even written. The lobbyist are lining up in Washington for the fall six to one, for each member of Congress. The words out telling senior citizens to be afraid of changes to medicare, governement program, one of the most successful along with social security.
The interest of Big business, the interest of financial institutions, the interest of insurance companies, the interest of those concerned about removal of profit making, from health care in America and the interest of the ethical behaviors of those writing the bill. Whom is being paid to include what in the final drafts? (Which has not yet been written because the bill is still being debated and held up in the finance committee of the senate). What is the average citizen to do with all the websites like sickforprofit.com, moveon.org, and patriotmajority.org., How does the average American find out the facts. Well, I suggest going to White House.gov. to get an idea of What the President would like the bill to do and what is actually being developed. By the House and the Senate. What special interest groups are helping write the bill, who has their hand in the cookie jar, at night stealing a health care bill with integrity and to benefit the most as the "Best Model" to use. I am just a citizen so I do not have the answers, But as an American, I do believe the Public Option is essential to the be included to move us toward universial health system by removal of for profit off of health care necessary treatments for better health.
The issue is are we serious or is this issues worth fighting hard for and using political capital? In this writers opinion, yes. We, must continue to ask our neighbors and friends to join this fight. Our local unions and local churches must realized this is all our fight. The health of America is worth fighting for and reforming, analzying the methods of health care we currently have and how to problem-solve and offer health solutions to benefit the American public. Removal of the falsehood in the great debate of healthcare, and making the issues factual driven. Having data that is reflective of real life situations and factual information.
This is all our fight. Everyone must be willing to become concerned and want to know all the real issues by discussing them in our communities and churches. Not accepting things as the are but wanting to change the outcomes of every citizen towards a more healthy lifestyle regardless of our ability to pay. Even increasing taxes and making the wealthy pay more. Stop this attitude of hating our Government and not believing we can make a difference. The public interest is all our business. From Education, fire, safety, and health issues. Some forms of common interest benefit us all, the roads being repaired, and snow removal, and the need for regulations of industry and Wallstreet to stop the financial issues we are facing so that does not happen again, takes government involvement. The establishment of a standing army or military, takes the government involvement. Large projects involving big quantities of people and logistics are what governmental entities do good, with private input not for profit purposes.
People say, "I want governent out of my medicare" ; the urban legends goes on. Medicare and the Veterans Hospital are government run and functioning facilities which have been defunded in the past and under-funded during previous administrations but we also, started a war with a nation that had nothing to do with (9/11) directly.
I have donated money before, and I have made phone calls during the elections, I had tried to do the best I can considering my circumstances. Currently, enrolled in Graduate School, in a Master of Liberal Arts with a broad range of liberal arts disciplines to be selected from for study; included in my program. I will be taking Ethics on the grad level. The course covers (Religion, Philosophy, and Medicine) and core MLS course work. Praying God will see me through. So I am looking forward to the challenge of learning and developing my abilities to understand and comprehend the different areas of ethics and society. Maybe if all the CEO's and Corporate Excecutives of Banks and the Automobilie industry leaders failed to listen to the public and allowed the Japanese to take control of our core market, taking it back is the challenge. Getting Wallstreet not to engage is high risk activities or instruments like "derivatives". Which helped cause the foreclosure mess in my opinion. How to save the middle class working American? I do not have the answer. But I do know we have to believe in us, America again.
The myths that have become a part of the conversation that we produce inferior (automobile products) and it is greener somewhere else, like buying foreign over American products. People that do not respect or appreciate what they have in America, will loose it. Either we use all our abilities and people or we will loose the cause and the people motivation to believe that hope and change is coming, sincerely. We, as Americans do not want more of the same.
I will be attending a Health Fair on Saturday, August 22, 2009. The time is from 11AM-4PM at Stopel Park in Detroit, located at Evergreen and West Outer Drive area, I would encourage everyone that reads my blogg to come out and support this effort, this Saturday. I have agreed to volunteer for the African-World Festival Today, when I got downtown at the location no one was there, then at 2:00PM a bunch of people showed up besides me, the group Leader or the person in charge never came to the event. You either have a contingency plan to implement but never leave volunteers alone in strange surroundings. The group leader does not show up. We waited for about an hour in the heat, it was 93 degrees this Sunday; downtown and we were at the assigned location. Jefferson at Woodward and then we went to the Spirit of Detroit where some got emails to meet. No one showed up. Others have gotten control of the message and GOPers are distorting the outcomes intentionally, causing problems to stop the Obama Organizing efforts of health care reform of our insurance industry. Many do not want a public option in the Bill and this writer believes it is critical to the possibility and vitality of a good bill being passed. Republican, representative have posted information up on the this site, what happened to the African World Festival information and why didn't anyone show up? Lots of people were downtown at the event and it was well organized. Someone is ruining the organizing efforts on purpose by pretending to support medical care reform but not with a "public option" which would mean, no real change in delivery at all, the status quo wins, making this a "Waterloo." Wasted political capital by a President given a mandate for change. Many people are interested in this issue and must show deep rooted and committed efforts, to change the outcomes of "more of the same."
The "Leader of this group event" never showed up? Yes, so if you read this I am a graduate student with many other things I could have been doing with my time. Plus, as a diabetic in the heat for such along time, but I was committed to the cause and purpose. I am experienced in community organizing and development. This should not have happened this way. The idea of the leader not showing up is the first sign of disorganization, after sending me others many emails last night. To verified I was committed to this task or event. I came and other met me downtown. We, all were gravely disappointed. So I say to the so-called leader of the group you either lead, follow, or get out of the way. Find someone more committed to take your place. Ask for assistance to move forward if you cannot be there. Never leave volunteers to their own devices or agenda.
I read a passage in the bible the other day and I made a speech in class earlier last year on the subject of the "Good Samaritan" or the Good Neighbor, founded in Luke The 10th, Chapter, 30-37 vs. I was reminded of how important it is to have conpassion for someone else, and not be selfish or greedy for my own aims or means. I felt the words of the Historical Prophet Jesus, become alive. In a story of an exampe of showing compassion and helping heal someone that had been robbed, left to die on the side of the road. A few persons had passed the Man; on the road to Jericho. After leaving Jerusalem. He was stripped of his material belongings and beaten almost to death. Many people passed him on the road, a Priest walked by, went to the other side of the road to past by. Then a Levite, looked saw the Man, and went to the otherside of the road. But a certain Samaritan stopped and had "compassion" on him. This is not about money and then again it is, caring for the least among us, or those damaged by the society. Has America become as "civilized" as it's European and World Partners, as the so-called Leaders of the free World in western culture and society? Do we care enough, or are we afraid to care, or have concerns beyond our families and friends?
Helping a stranger in need of "Health Care" is what I see and believe America is about. The many stories of little-knowns not seeking glory but making a difference. Not just to pull themselves up by bootstraps but achieve and live healthy happy lives. Doesn't the Constitution say, we have a right to the pursuit of happiness? If you are sick, and unable to achieve, or work, or support the cost of medical, or physical conditions; should some clerk or insurance provider make that decision at a corporation office or your Doctor? Luke, was a Physican in the bible. "When Man pains he thinks". This issue is not complex it is simple, do we care enough about each other to change the delivery of an out dated system of health care with the "status quo" or do we implement policies that are in the public interest and futuristic? Well, this blogger wants everyone that is an American citizen to be well and have access to good medical care, regardless of their ability to pay, that is humane.
This story reminded me of the issues of today, are we to allow others less able to afford health care to be allowed to suffer and die. Or are we people of compassion and civilized enough to give aid to one another. The Good Samaritan paid for the man's lodging and got him medical care, and put money in the strangers' pocket. The story became known as the " Good Samaritan" and this is the standard we all should be considering. Are we going to be Good Samaritans or continue to allow those that are profitting off of health care, to control the conversation and the argument? America is at across road of are we greedy? Or do we have enough decency to want to heal the sick, pray for the poor in spirit, because, Jesus said, "The "Poor" you have with you always ", do we ignore someone falling on hard times or do we lift up our fellow countrymen? We, helped Big Business and saved WallStreet, but do we care about the average citizen's well being and health care?
