If Barack Obama wins this election, it will be a remarkable feat for two reasons. 1. He will become the first African American to do it, and 2. He will have done it despite the fact that the good old U.S. is as racist as the day is long. I get tired of hearing all the television and print journalists say “Why can’t Obama close the deal with the GOP being so unpopular?” There is nothing wrong with Obama’s policies and they all know it. The reason he can’t seal the deal is that he’s Black. In this country, there is no shortage of middle class and poor white folks who fell for George Bush’s lies in 2000, and 2004. These same folks who have lost their jobs, are struggling to keep their homes, and send their kids to college, are pretending they don’t know enough about Obama, or that he hasn’t made his message clear enough. The reality though is Obama has made his message very clear. I challenge anybody who’s listening to present a stump speech from the past 6 months where Obama doesn’t outline exactly what his positions are, and exactly what his plans for this country. What I’ve heard during this time is a plan for tax cuts for 95% of taxpayers. I’ve heard that this will be accomplished in part by taxing the record profits of the big oil companies. I’ve heard Obama talk about ending the war which is costing the country trillions. I’ve heard a plan to make health care affordable. I’ve heard all about a plan to stop trying to play lonesome cowboy, and talk to our friends, as well as our enemies. Finally, I’ve heard that it’s not enough to give all the tax breaks to rich business owners and hope that they will find it within themselves to share the profits with the rest of us. When McCain has to face Obama face to face in a live debate, no amount of spin or double talk will save him. McCain won’t be able to sit out in the car and listen to Obama give his unscripted answers first, only to answer each question with a war story when it’s his turn. Need further proof that white folks are trying to convince themselves that America isnt racist, and the media isnt clueless? Obama has been in the race for president for about two years, and yahoo is just now admiting that the race is close because Obama is black. Yhaoo couldnt see this however until they conducted a pole on the matter. For McCain the clock is ticking. He will have nowhere to run as of 9-26-2008. No spokesman fast talk, no spin. McCain will bee eaten for lunch in the debates. Enough is Enough.
Yeah so just letting everyone know if you google 'advising obama' currently I'm numero uno on the google, as bush would say.

The Independence Day Obama Fundraiser Car Wash turned out to be a success, even though it wasn't a big event. Around 3 p.m. volunteers, including Melissa Evans, Rachel Williams, and Shamika Minesee, gathered at the Advance Auto Parts store on Jordan Lane in Huntsville and revved up some enthusiasm for the Obama campaign. The teenagers who were helping out stood at the corner and held handmade signs and yelled "Car Wash" and "Vote Obama" to passers by. They got plenty of thumbs up, smiles, and appreciative honks as well as quite a few donations from those who wanted to help but didn't have time to stop for a car wash. Rachel rolled her newly "Obamafied" car to the edge of the street in front of Advance Auto Parts to help draw motorists' attention. Melissa and the other volunteers washed cars and sold Obama buttons and shirts to those who did stop. Shamika got several young people registered to vote including a 23-year old young man who had never before done so.
In all it was a good event and a good day. Despite the fact that traffic was light and rain threatened the entire time, the volunteers managed in just two hours to raise money, rally spirit, and register voters, all of which helps to make a difference for the Obama campaign. One man driving by got so excited when he saw the Obama car and signs that he turned the wrong way in the street in his effort to get to the event. Fortunately he didn't have a mishap and his excitement wasn't dampened in the least. He got his car washed, gave a donation, and left his name and number requesting that he be contacted the next time anything happened so he could help.
I'm sure Huntsville volunteers will do bigger and better things in the near future. But for one holiday afternoon, spending a couple of hours trying to help get Obama elected and gain independence from four more years of Bush policies was certainly was time well spent!
UAH students,
I have created a group on facebook titled "UAH for Obama." Please join up for additional information, show your support, and participate in rallying events.
Thank you!
I'm trying to get permission to have a stand inside the UC building and offer free pizza and drinks while telling willing students more about Obama other than news media. It would be helpful if anyone from UAH would like to join me. I bought one of the campaign packages from Obama's store website. Once that gets in I'll have stickers, buttons, and rally signs for students to advertise their support and get others interested in voting this election. As I am in Alabama, I am getting ready for the presidential election between Obama and Mcain...never mind Clinton. ; -)
A&M students, ask for permission to see if we can also rally there. I am an ROTC student at A&M, but a nursing student at UAH. So by extension, I am a part of Alabama A&M University as well.

My idea is for funding Higher Education (college level)
I agree with Obama's idea of having a $4,000 tax cut for tuition (does this include book expense?). I am 22 years old, recently married and am just finishing my Sophomore year of college. Graduating high school at age 18 in 2004, I should be receiving my 4-year degree at the end of 2007-2008 school year. Instead I will start my Junior level of college summer 2008. I was accepted into college before graduating high school, but could not afford it. I remember talking with the advisor and signing up for classes. Then, when tuition was due, I could not pay and therefore was written off the list for my classes. For one full year I worked 3 jobs concurrently: one full time job and two part time jobs. I was a server at Ruby Tuesday, a dish washer at an Army dining facility, and a vendor contractor at Huntsville Hospital (a vendor position was the only offer of work I could get when it came to my dream: working in the hospital). I lived on my own (moved out after high school graduation) and could not receive additional financial aid because by FAFSA rules - a person is consider 'dependent' until age 23, active duty military, or married. I also have not established a strong credit history because.....I was 18!!! Just started credit!! Any money I would receive for school would be earned by my own hands. Let us not forget living on my own at 18 until married also meant the money I was earning went towards apartment rent, food, used car, gas, utilities, phone, insurance, internet, and other expenses. For my age, I "grew up" or matured very fast with all of my life experiences and dedication towards higher education.
I like Obama's idea of simplifying financial aid by simply "ticking a box" during taxes, but I would like to add to that. For those people like me, there should be additional papers/documents to fill out to show need of extra support. To be able to show our situation: debts versus income and to claim no other financial assistance is being received. Once proper documents are filed, the student should be able to receive (guaranteed) a direct government student loan of up to $10,000 EACH school year (Freshmen-Senior) and not to exceed $40,000 for an undergraduate. The direct loans from government now (applied for through FAFSA) are too small for Freshmen and Sophomore independent status to truly cover the cost of tuition, books, supplies, rent, utilities, etc. Also the requirement for independent status (23, married, or active duty military) is too strict and limiting. Surely an apartment/residence, utilities, and other bills with the student's name on the bill should be sufficient evidence to receive independent status loans.
I believe a student should be a student. I have nothing against a student using spare time at a part time job for spending money, but for work to be a requirement to live AND go to school is unacceptable. If a student wants to be a student and ONLY that, I believe that should be a citizen's right, not a luxury. I am not asking for free education, just a guaranteed direct government loan for each student to have the chance to be just that....a student.
Thank you for your time!
We need several people to become precinct captains and poll wathcers for Feb. 5th.
This is very important! Please call or come into headquarters to find out which polling places are still left without volunteers.
There is a training tomorrow, Sat., at 11 am for poll watchers and precinct captains.
If you can't do it, please spread the word to your friends and everyone else you know.
